An Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his 20-year-old daughter in the US because he believed she had become too westernised doesn't understand court proceedings and may need a mental-health evaluation, says his lawyer.

The lawyer, Billy Little, said he first met 49-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki in Phoenix on Tuesday, and the immigrant did not understand the role of his lawyer, the judge or a grand jury.

"He just doesn't have a clue as to what's going on," Little told The Associated Press. "I can't determine if it's language, cultural or a mental-health issue."

A mental-health expert typically evaluates a defendant's competency to stand trial in such cases, Little said.

If the lack of comprehension has to do with language or culture, Almaleki may just need to be taught about the American justice system in his native Arabic.

Authorities say Almaleki ran down his daughter and another woman with his Jeep on October 20 as they were walking across a parking lot in the Phoenix suburb of Peoria.

Family members told police that Almaleki attacked his daughter because she was not living according to his traditional Iraqi values.

Noor Faleh Almaleki died on November 2. The other woman, Amal Khalaf, survived; she is the mother of Noor's boyfriend.

Almaleki was in court on Wednesday in a black-and-white jail uniform and said only his name and birthday when prompted by the judge. His next scheduled court date is February 8.

Almaleki had a different attorney from the Maricopa County public defender's office until Tuesday, when Little took over.

Little is on the office's capital case team, and although prosecutors haven't decided whether to seek the death penalty against Almaleki, Little said his office believes it's likely, so he needs to begin defending the case now.

Mike Scerbo, spokesman for County Attorney Andrew Thomas, declined to comment on the case beyond an earlier statement.

"We will fully prosecute this tragic case of alleged homicide and domestic violence," Thomas said at the time.

Several court appearances had to be cancelled after Almaleki was put on suicide watch, but Little said that has no longer been an issue.

Almaleki is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

Almaleki and his family moved to the US in the mid-1990s and lived in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale.

Friends said Noor simply wanted to be a normal American woman, and that she was never disrespectful to her father, just independent.

Friends said Almaleki forced Noor to quit her job at a fast-food restaurant, and in 2008, he took her to Iraq under the guise of visiting family. Actually, he had picked out a husband for her and told her she couldn't return to Arizona unless she married him.

Noor married the man and returned, and friends said her husband was in the process of trying to move to the U.S.

But Noor fell in love with another man, they said, and she was living in his home with his mother when she was killed.

Gee whoda thought something like this could happen, it is a Religion of Peace after all and Hussein Obama demands we respect it there must be some misunderstanding.

Australian KFC Commercial : Professional “Black Fella’s” and those looking for something to be offended by.

KFC pulls 'racist' Aussie cricket ad

The Daily Telegraph
January 07, 2010

KFC head office in the United States has pulled a controversial Australian commercial which sparked furious debate in America about whether it was racist.

The commercial, featuring a white Australian cricket fan offering fried chicken to West Indies supporters, has been pulled from the air in Australia.

"KFC Australia is removing the television advertisement that was being run in conjunction with the Australian cricket season,'' the chicken fast food giant announced in a statement.

"We apologise for any misinterpretation of the ad as it was not meant to offend anyone.''

The Australian TV commercial was picked up by the US media, including the New York Daily News and Baltimore Sun, and drew heated debate, with some Americans accusing Australians of being racist because it perpetuates a stereotype that African Americans eat a lot of fried chicken.

The ad is one in a series where a cricket lover quietens people around him by giving them KFC to eat so he can enjoy the game.

The New York Daily News staged a poll on its website asking if the ad was offensive.

The vote was almost split, with 51 per choosing "No, it's just light-hearted and fun'' while 42 per cent selected "Yes, it plays on stereotypes''.

Six per cent voted "I'm not sure''.

Readers inundated the newspaper websites with emotional posts.

"This was blatantly racist,'' one reader commented on the NY Daily News website.

Another wrote: "Yeah, coming from the same people who almost singlehandedly wiped out the whole race of aborogines (sic). You people are the worst. I've had friends who visited Australia and they told me how it is over there''.

“You people are the worst…..” ? you people ?

Oh pray tell enlightened one, please tell us all just how it is “over there” so we all may be so much better informed.

Australians, upset at the American response, bombarded US news websites and blogs to defend the ad and attempt to explain Australian humour.

"Oh dear,'' an Australian wrote on the Baltimore Sun site.

"Another shining example of how some Americans can be absolutely clueless about anything further away than the tip of their own nose.''

The furore began in the US after the ad was posted on YouTube, attracting thousands of comments and sparking members of the public to post their own video responses.

Meanwhile, acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard didn't weigh into the debate, but she did admit to eating KFC.

She had seen the KFC logo emblazoned on cricketers' uniforms.

"I'm someone who's eaten the occasional bit of KFC, but I can't say that I'm an expert in their current advertising strategy,'' Ms Gillard told reporters in Adelaide on Thursday.

"My general world outlook is to take things on the lighter side, but I'm not in a position to give a specific comment about that ad.''

The professional “feel my pain” and their partners in the guilt and permanently offended industry “I feel your pain” arse clowns, have not had much to do lately.

I say that because how else could they stick their goose necks out so far and beat up a “white racist’s are making us feel bad about ourselves again” bull shit issue like this ?

The facts are KFC is a major sponsor of the sport of Cricket in Australia, the West Indian cricket team comes here to play against Australia and other countries in a series of “Tests” and other formats during the Australian summer and have done so for many many years.

They are famous for their loyal and exuberant supporters who follow them not only to Australia but all over the world to watch and support their beloved Cricket team wherever they may be playing.

The professional “feel my pain”  “I feel your pain” industry, arse clowns have obviously never attended a game of cricket between the West Indian team and Australia or any other team for that matter, for if they had they would have, hopefully, realised that there was no subtext, no  hidden racist agenda, no slur against “Black Fella’s” intrinsically woven into the message of the ad, but rather an Australian cricket team supporter who found himself surrounded by the West Indian cheer squad at the Sydney Cricket Ground when their team was clearly getting the better of the Australian team.

For the professional “feel my pain”  “I feel your pain” industry, arse clowns, to imply that these West Indian supporters were somehow getting out of control, as opposed to doing what they generally do when their team is getting the upper hand or wins, and had to be calmed down with Fried Chicken,is a position that only those looking for yet another “oppressed Black Fella’s” and their mindsets facilitators pity party.

Would the same “feel my pain”  “I feel your pain” industry, have been so offended had the ad featured a lone West Indian supporter surrounded by exuberant Australian supporters and started handing out Meat Pies of Fosters Beer in the spirit of good will and sharing of the human spirit as did the Australian supporter aka.“You people…” depicted in the ad?

You can be a member of the Negroid race and not be an American, just as you can be a member of the Caucasian race and not be an American.

Australia has enough racially motivated bigots in the Lefts Multicultural Industry to divide, label and name call those who identify as un hyphenated Australian’s without their leftist cousins in the USA attempting to do their dirty work for them, Australia has it’s own taxpayer funded fifth column busily working away 24/7 365 doing whatever it can whenever it can to drive us back to their very own “year zero” so that they can remake us in their image.

I say Old Chap, raatheeeer,….. anyone for Cricket?
