Mob kills man blamed for burning Koran

A MOB in southern Pakistan stormed a police station to seize a mentally unstable Muslim man accused of burning a copy of Islam's holy book, beat him to death, and then set his body alight, police say.
The case is likely to raise further concerns about the country's harsh blasphemy laws, which can result in a death sentence or life in prison to anyone found guilty.
Critics say an accusation or investigation alone can lead to deaths, as people take the law into their own hands and kill those accused of violating it. Police stations and even courts have been attacked by mobs.
Local police official Bihar-ud-Din said police arrested the man on Friday after being informed by residents that he had burned a Koran inside a mosque where he had been staying for a night.
An angry mob of more than 200 people then broke into the police station in the southern town of Dadu and took the accused man, who they say was under questioning. Din said police tried their best to save the man's life, but
were unable to stop the furious crowd.
He said police had arrested 30 people for suspected involvement in the attack, while the head of the local police station and seven officers had been suspended.
Past attempts by governments in predominantly Muslim Pakistan to review these laws have met with violent opposition from hardline Islamist parties.

A sociopath is someone who feels no empathy for other human beings. The consequences of this lack are enormous. These people are, in many ways, not recognizably human. And there is no cure for sociopathy. It is not caused by upbringing. Therapy only makes them worse. About two percent of the population is sociopathic, and those who are in a relationship with a sociopath need to understand what makes sociopaths tick. The more you know, the less likely you are to be fooled, used, or destroyed by a sociopath. But Martha Stout said something interesting for us here in our conversation about Islam. She wrote about the techniques sociopaths use to exploit people around them. Sociopaths use people. And there is one thing experienced sociopaths use more than anything else because it works so well with normal people. Their ultra-effective weapon is to evoke pity. Stout wrote: The most reliable sign, the most universal behavior of unscrupulous people is not directed, as one might imagine, at our fearfulness. It is, perversely, an appeal to our sympathy.The reason I thought that was interesting and relevant is that pity is one of the most common techniques orthodox Muslims use, and it is the main reason they've been able to get away with as much as they have so far. They exploit the egalitarian, multiculturalist, good-hearted nature of non-Muslims. They evoke pity and then use our own kindness and our desire to "get along with others" against us. I was just reading the book, Tripoli: The United States' First War on Terror. The ruler of Tripoli had been seizing U.S. merchant ships, adding the ship to his own fleet, keeping the contents of the ship, and selling the captured sailors into slavery. It was a very lucrative pirating business. The U.S. wanted Tripoli to stop it, of course. The ruler of Tripoli said, "Sure, we'll stop attacking your ships if you pay us tribute every year." So for awhile the U.S. paid the tribute because they were a new country and had no navy to speak of, and they wanted to continue with their overseas trade. But the ruler of Tripoli decided the tribute they had agreed to wasn't enough, so he demanded more and when he didn't get it, he started seizing U.S. ships again. Meanwhile, the U.S. was frantically building a navy, and by this time had enough warships to put up a fight, so they did. Suddenly Tripoli's ruler wanted to talk peace. But in the negotiations, the man negotiating on behalf of the ruler asked for a gift of money. The U.S. said no, absolutely not. The U.S. said basically, "You have not been fair in any way and have only acted as our enemy, and no, we will not pay you to stop the fighting." Then Tripoli's negotiator tried to appeal to pity: "But Tripoli is very poor," he pleaded. "she cannot subsist without the generosity of her friends; give something then on the score of charity." In this case, Tripoli had already established a poor reputation with the Americans, so the pity plea did not work. But even after the U.S. negotiator said no, Tripoli's negotiator tried to make the U.S. negotiator feel guilty for not feeling pity. He asked, basically, "You say you want peace but you won't give this gift of charity to obtain the peace?" Islam uses the pity plea anywhere it can. Mohammad used it, Muslims in Tripoli were using it, and Muslims today are still at it. In their dealings with powerful non-Muslims, the basic stance of Islam is: "We are an oppressed, persecuted people. We're a minority. We're under siege. We are wrongly accused. We're the victims of bigotry, hatred, and Islamophobia." And if they can't find anything to point to that proves their oppression, they literally create something (click here for an example). It's like a game they are playing, except this is a game with very serious consequences. A single sociopath using the appeal to pity can completely ruin the lives of many people. And this is, of course, nothing compared with what orthodox Muslims have done. They've killed over 270 million people since they started. They've ruined even more lives, and they are affecting the lives and livelihoods of billions of us today. I would like to spend my time working on productive, positive, life-affirming activities. Instead, I am spending many hours of my short time here on earth trying to stop the insidious Islamic encroachment, reading and writing about things I wish didn't exist. It's an upsetting topic. It's disturbing. But the consequences of ignoring it are even worse, so I devote a large portion of my life to it. And, of course, I'm not alone. Each of us has been influenced in hundreds of ways we don't even know about by the third jihad (and the first two jihads). It's important to understand how they are Islamizing the free world so successfully. One of the most effective techniques they use is the appeal to pity. The good news is that as soon as you see the appeal for what it is, the game is over, the magic disappears, the trance is lifted. SIX people, including a one-year-old girl and two teachers, were gunned down in separate attacks on a teashop and school in Thailand's insurgency-plagued south, police said.
Four others were injured in the shooting, including a 10-month-old boy.
"We found 62 bullets fired at the scene," local police chief Captain Boonsak Numad said, adding that at least three people were thought to have been behind the violence.
In a second attack later on Tuesday, a headmistress and male teacher were shot and killed as they had lunch in the staff cafeteria of a school in Pattani, the latest attack targeting educators.
Police said the group of at least six gunmen stole a school vehicle to make their getaway.
Hundreds of schools in Pattani and Narathiwat have staged brief closures in recent weeks to protest at the risks facing educators, more than 150 of whom have died in the insurgency.
Militants view the school system as an effort by Bangkok to impose Buddhist culture on the Muslim-majority south. Teachers working in non-religious schools are frequently targeted because they are seen as a symbol of government authority.
Thailand's southern unrest has claimed more than 5300 lives, both Buddhist and Muslim, since it reignited in 2004, with near-daily bomb or gun attacks.
A report by the International Crisis Group on the violence said that successive governments have "opted to muddle through Southeast Asia's most violent internal conflict".
"As Bangkok dithers, the insurgents are growing bolder and stronger," said Jim Della-Giacoma, Crisis Group's Southeast Asia project director.
"But the violence has evolved at a pace that is starting to challenge the ability of the government to respond on its own terms."
ICG recommended a greater push towards decentralisation and closer engagement with local civil society groups and peace negotiations with insurgents.
It added that the deployment of some 60,000 security forces and an emergency decree "have not achieved any appreciable decline in casualties".
"The government should reverse the militarisation of the Deep South, lift the draconian security laws and end the security forces' impunity, all of which help stimulate the insurgency," the report said.

Jimmy Savile Paedophile scandal : Australian Entertainer questioned by Scotland Yard detectives in relation to one of the biggest sex scandals to rock the UK.
BRITISH police are investigating claims of sex offences by 25 celebrities and expect to arrest six of them in coming weeks.
Most of the 25 are television and radio entertainers, London's Sunday Times newspaper reported.
However, the newspaper said some of the alleged victims did not want to be identified or to press charges, which would make a criminal case unlikely.
Police reportedly believe there is enough evidence to detain people in at least a dozen cases.
A source told The Sun newspaper "they all tend to be white men of the Savile generation." They were named in phone calls to the police or to charities.
Five of those questioned have already been named: pop star Gary Glitter, comedian Freddie Starr, DJ Dave Lee Travis, BBC producer Wilfred De'ath and PR guru Max Clifford.
A sixth man, a world-famous entertainer in his 80s, has been questioned under caution but has not been named by the media.
All those questioned have denied any wrongdoing.
About 450 potential victims have come forward since the Operation Yewtree inquiry started two months ago.
Yewtree was set up after late Top of the Pops presenter Jimmy Savile was revealed as a serial abuser.
It has three strands: allegations against Savile, allegations involving Savile and other people, and allegations against people unconnected to Savile.

THE fate of under-fire radio hosts Mel Greig and Michael Christian - and their show - hangs in the balance today as radio bosses continue to deal with the fallout from the royal hoax tragedy, regarded as the biggest scandal in Southern Cross Austereo's history.
The DJs, who remained in hiding yesterday, are likely to face the media either today or tomorrow to offer their first public apology in a bid to calm the global outrage following the apparent suicide of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who put the prank call through to the Duchess of Cambridge's London hospital ward.
Just 36 hours after news of Ms Saldanha's apparent suicide broke, SCA executives and board members were locked in talks about how best to deal with the crisis - and how to avoid anything like it happening again.
It's understood the discussions - led by SCA chairman Max Moore-Wilton and Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran - addressed all aspects of the "tragedy'' and, in particular, the letter sent to Mr Moore-Wilton by the chairman of King Edward VII's Hospital, Lord Glenarthur, in which he condemned the prank phone call to Kate Middleton's private nurse.
Last night Mr Moore-Wilton wrote an email, which Mr Holleran sent to the hospital, which failed to apologise for the radio network's behaviour.
"It is too early to know the full details leading to this tragic event and we are anxious to review the results of an investigation that may be made available to us or made public,'' Mr Moore-Wilton wrote, adding the broadcaster was "taking immediate action and reviewing the broadcast and processes involved".
While Mr Holleran last night wouldn't talk about SCA's response to the letter, it's understood executives have been deeply shocked by the fallout from the prank and launched a full investigation into the origin of the phone call, the producer and staff behind the idea and the decision to subsequently re-air it on social network platforms.
"There are questions that obviously require some answers and this is not something the network is treating lightly and can't be seen to be treating lightly,'' said a network insider.
Radio sources have also indicated much of the meeting focused on how to preserve relationships with advertisers and sponsors in the wake of the decision by major partners Telstra and Coles to temporarily withdraw their support. "Crisis consultant" Sandy Kaye said that the network did expect boycotting sponsors to eventually return.
"So far Telstra and Coles have ceased all advertising but I don't expect that will be forever,'' she said.
The Today Network - SCA's radio arm - is Australia's No.1 FM radio network with just over 3.5 million metro listeners each week and over 1.1 million users online.
Lord Glenarthur wrote to Mr Moore-Wilton, expressing his disgust. "King Edward VII's Hospital cares for sick people, and it was extremely foolish of your presenters even to consider trying to lie their way through to one of our patients, let alone actually make the call,'' he wrote.
"Then to discover that, not only had this happened but that the call had been pre-recorded and the decision to transmit approved by your station's management, was truly appalling.
"The longer term consequence has been reported around the world and is, frankly, tragic beyond words."I appreciate that you cannot undo the damage which has been done but I would urge you to take steps to ensure that such an incident could never be repeated.''
The letter also demanded any similar pranks never be repeated and that the network, as a whole, must be aware of the immediate and long-term consequences.
"The immediate consequence of these premeditated and ill-considered actions was the humiliation of two dedicated and caring nurses who were simply doing their job tending to their patients,'' it continued.
As for the future of announcers Mel Greig and Michael Christian, it's understood the crisis talks addressed the need to maintain support for them and that both should retain a position within SCA in the short term.
A spokeswoman for the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) last night said that a decision to pursue an independent investigation into the incident was still yet to be made.
"ACMA does not propose to make any comments at this stage but ... will be engaging with the licensee, Today FM Sydney,... around the facts and issues surrounding the prank call,'' she said.

ALL NSW students will be given mandatory lessons on the horrors of the Holocaust under sweeping changes to the school history curriculum.
The Board of Studies has confirmed it will roll out a new syllabus that will include studies of the Jewish genocide during World War II.
The changes, which will mirror compulsory Holocaust classes in most US states, the UK and many European countries, will come into effect from 2014.
The Nazi mass slaughter of more than six million Jews, regarded as the darkest chapter of modern history, has only been available to students in Australia as an optional component in history classes.
The Board of Studies will make it mandatory for all history students up to Year 10.
"The Holocaust is now a mandatory inclusion in the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority's history overview," a spokeswoman for the Board of Studies confirmed.
It will also be included in deeper history studies on Australians at war as part of "the nature and scope of 20th-century war".
The Australian Jewish community has the largest percentage of Holocaust survivors in the world, with the exception of Israel.

The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, which has been lobbying for compulsory Holocaust teachings for the past three years, said NSW had set the benchmark for the rest of the country.
It is now calling on the Gillard government to join about 28 other Western nations and sign up to the Task Force for International Co-operation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research.
Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Aldaheff said: "Making the teaching of the Holocaust mandatory up to Year 10 is a tremendous step forward and the NSW Board of Studies and NSW Department of Education are to be applauded for their vision and foresight.
"Although the Holocaust was unique, its lessons about the essential fragility of human civilisation are universal.
"The Holocaust is a warning to every generation about the potential for evil, especially as a consequence of racial hatred, and about the inherent evil of totalitarian regimes.
"It teaches us that every generation owes it to itself and to future generations to cherish, and if necessary fight to defend, the sanctity of life, dignity and freedom."
The Board of Studies spokeswoman said the decision to make studying the Holocaust mandatory was taken after long consultations with the community and teachers.
"The development of the new K-10 syllabuses involved consultation with a range of teachers and community representatives. The board did not receive a submission from the Jewish Board of Deputies during the consultation phase," the spokeswoman said.

A MEMORIAL fund has been set up to help the grieving family of Detective Inspector Bryson Anderson.
Donations will go to Police Legacy for the financial support of Inspector Anderson's wife and three children, aged 15, 12 and 10.
His death has left police officers and the community in a state of shock, with people extending their sympathies to his wife and children, said NSW Police Association president Scott Weber.

"Losing a member of the police family is always difficult, and losing a husband and a father even more so,'' Mr Weber said.
"This Christmas, three children will have no father, a wife no husband, only because Inspector Anderson was doing his job and working to make NSW a better place.''
Mr Weber said Inspector Bryson's death while trying to settle a neighbourhood dispute had shaken and saddened all police officers.
"It is unfortunately a horrible and stark reminder of the inherent dangers and risks involved in police work, and that so many men and women put their lives on the line every single day serving their community and trying to
make NSW a safer place,'' Mr Weber said.
