THE UN has dumped the deadline to tackle climate change, leaving Kevin Rudd isolated in his view that “to delay any longer would be reckless and irresponsible for our economy and our environment”.
Rudd made that dire pronouncement at the National Press Club just over a year ago, in December 2008, when he, former US vice-president Al Gore and an assortment of others were hell-bent on introducing the greatest wealth redistribution scheme the world had ever seen.

Now, even the UN has realised that the scam has been exposed and that the support base for its massive global swindle has melted more rapidly than any Himalayan glacier.
The Copenhagen Conference may have been as chaotic as an inner-urban ALP branch meeting, but the fallout has been devastating.
The only firm agreement for which there was general support among the freeloading nations present was to set a deadline of the end of this month for the first part of the ongoing process to deal with anthropogenic global warming.
Now the UN has waived that deadline.
Those present had agreed to declare their emission reduction targets, with developing nations stating the level of cuts they intended to make by 2020 and developing nations outlining their plans to curb emissions growth.
Now, Yvo de Boer, the UN’s chief climate change official, has admitted the deadline has been voided.
“By (the end of) January, countries will have the opportunity to indicate if they want to be associated with the accord,” he said. “(Governments could) indicate by the deadline, or they could also indicate later.”
“You could describe it as a soft deadline. There is nothing deadly about it. If (countries) fail to meet it, they can still associate with the Copenhagen accord after.”
This is not a deadline, not even a soft deadline. It is a dead deadline, a non-deadline, a meaningless deadline. It is not a line in the sand, a line in the mud or a line in the air. It is a non-existent line.
But the Prime Minister is left with his September 2008 claim: “After a long period of inaction, we have drawn a line in the sand on climate change. We recognise it as the greatest economic, environmental and moral challenge of our time.”
The day after Rudd declared delay on action on global warming to be “irresponsible” and “reckless”, he told a press conference in Brisbane that Copenhagen was the “clear cut” destination point.
“The end point of that,” he said, “will decide whether or not as a world community we’re serious about the future of the planet.”
The world community, through the UN, has just sent him a message. It doesn’t think the future of the planet is in as serious a plight as he believes. It doesn’t think he is on the right page on global warming.
It has decided that Copenhagen and the hysterical approach to climate change promoted by Rudd and a few others bent on transferring the wealth of the Western nations to the developing world was an over-the-top solution to a problem that increasingly appears to have been based on phoney figures, manipulated data and dodgy science.
US President Barack Obama had already signalled that he would not be pushing for any drastic measures before he was given a drubbing in Massachusetts on Tuesday.
The vote that saw the Democrats lose the Senate seat held by John F.Kennedy and his brother Ted for nearly 50 years was seen by some as a referendum on Obama’s crippled healthcare program.
But that was not the only issue that drove voters to the polls in record numbers.
Many were objecting to every aspect of the Obama approach to politics, including his embrace of multilateral forums such as the UN and its policies on matters such as global warming.
They would also be aware that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UN body responsible for the apocalyptic climate predictions, has been caught out making unscientific forecasts in papers distributed for maximum political effect.
Dr Chris Landsea, a climate specialist dealing with hurricanes who quit the IPCC in disgust at the misrepresentation of scientific data five years ago, sounded the alarm then but was ignored as the IPCC promoted a false picture of increasing hurricane and cyclone activity.
Last week, it was revealed that the IPCC had also relied on unscientific claims of Himalayan glacial melts to make its case.
Rudd and Climate Change Minister Penny Wong constantly cited the IPCC as the source of their wild claims about increasing extreme weather events.

The IPCC said the prediction on glacial melt in its landmark 2007 report was “poorly substantiated” and resulted from a lapse in standards.
Rudd and Wong cannot claim the same excuse. They bought the whole argument and branded those who challenged them “deniers”.
Apart from owing thousands of well-meaning sceptics an apology, Rudd must also explain why the UN is walking away from him and the issue he claims is “the great moral, economic and environmental challenge of our age”.
He has been back from holiday for a week and made a series of embarrassingly ignorant speeches on the economy in which he has shown he has no grasp of economics.
And he has not addressed the UN’s retreat from Copenhagen and the failure of his scaremongering on global warming.
Perhaps his claims about global destruction were merely first drafts of his next book for children. The UN is certainly treating them as such.

The 23-year-old Nigerian charged with trying to detonate a bomb on a Northwest Airlines flight over Detroit on Christmas Day was lonely and sexually repressed, according to messages left on an Islamic website.
As a US Senate Homeland Security committee continued to argue this week about how to handle Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the emotional anguish in his web posts provides an insight into fanatical Islam and what drives often hapless young men to become suicide bombers. Much as we would like them to be, they are not monsters.
Being the son of a wealthy banker, and living in London, Abdulmutallab had no real beef with Western life, did not complain about racism or express concern for downtrodden Muslim brothers.
But, like the September 11 bombers, who visited strip clubs before their date with destiny, when his devout religious beliefs conflicted with his corporeal desires, he found that blowing himself up along with a whole lot of infidels was preferable to being sexually frustrated.
As the New York Post put it: "The bomb wasn't the only thing burning in his pants."
On the Islamic Forum of the Gawaher website in 2005 and 2006 were more than 300 posts by Farouk1986 - Abdulmutallab's middle name and birth year.
Under the heading: "I think I feel lonely," Farouk1986 complains he has never found "a true Muslim friend".
"As I get lonely, the natural sexual drive awakens and I struggle to control it, sometimes leading to minor sinful activities like not lowering the gaze.
"And this problem makes me want to get married to avoid getting aroused … but I am only 18.'' In another post, he writes ''the hair of a woman can easily arouse a man''.
He also writes of "my dilemma between liberalism and extremism … how should one put the balance right?"
He talks at one point about his fantasies: ''The bad part of it is sometimes the fantasies are a bit worldly rather than concentrating in the hereafter.''
He tries instead to focus on more acceptable "jihad fantasies''.
''I imagine how the great jihad will take place, how the Muslims will win Insha'Allah and rule the whole world, and establish the greatest empire once again!!!"
As the youngest of 16 children and the son of his father's No. 2 wife, he reportedly spent most of his childhood at an English boarding school in West Africa. The trajectory to extreme violence of this gentle, pious young man who wanted so much to be good and consequential, and yet was consumed with guilt about sex, fits with much of what is known about other Islamist suicide bombers.
Perhaps the best psychological explanation comes from United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror, the recent book by Jamie Glazov, the managing editor of FrontPage Magazine.
In a chapter entitled "To Hate a Woman", he describes in chilling detail the oppression of women in parts of the Muslim world and the "theological justification" for violence against females "from the very moment of their birth".
Islamist hatred of women has "fertilised the soil in which … terrorism and the new death cult have grown".
He claims there is an "Islamist war on private love [which] derives most of its energy from a deep-seated misogyny. Women's empowerment, independence and self-determination, especially the sexual variety, pose a threat to Islamism's very existence."
Islamist misogyny, he claims, comes from Islam itself. "The notion that women are by their very nature inferior to men is the underpinning of the entire structure and derives its legitimacy from numerous traditional teachings."
It is no coincidence that the Arabic word "fitna" has two meanings - beautiful woman and social chaos.
Glazov writes that in many Islamic societies, "women are supposed to dehumanise themselves in order to be tolerated … Women are considered to be the incarnation of shahwa [desire] which comes from the devil. In this environment the pathological notion arises that a man and a woman cannot be alone without the ominous threat of evil in their midst.
"The men denigrate the object of their lust so as to diminish their own shame. In this dynamic of sexual repression and misogyny, love is reduced to violent domination which becomes directly intertwined with terrorism against societies that allow women freedom, especially sexual freedom."
Practices such as polygamy and repudiation - in which a man can divorce his wife by pronouncing certain words - conspire to "minimise the possibility of private love even among married couples".
"Islam teaches that the sexual act is dirty and consequently surrounds it with rituals. The objective is to build a wall between the lovers themselves."
Polygamy, Glazov writes, has a disastrous effect on Muslim boys who grow up with "all kinds of siblings born of different women which gives them the idea that none of these women, including their own mother, was good enough to be cherished alone. The boys internalise this misogyny which leads in turn to self hate."
Their psychological abandonment of their mothers is "directly connected to their urge for terror and suicide".
Female genital mutilation, in which a woman's clitoris - or entire external genital organs - is removed is an attempt to "deny women even the possibility of personal happiness and sexual satisfaction".
Glazov writes of Saudi instructional TV programs about wife-beating and cites a report from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences which estimated 90 per cent of Pakistani wives had been beaten or sexually abused for offences such as cooking an unsatisfactory meal.
These stories are not remote from Australian concerns. The Islamic Women's Welfare Council of Victoria, in a 2008 report, since removed from its website, concluded that some Australian Muslim religious leaders condoned rape within marriage, polygamy and domestic violence.
In gang rape trials, Muslim men have mounted the defence that their strict religious upbringing made them believe they could rape Australian non-Muslim girls.
This week, in Melbourne, an Afghan refugee is being tried for allegedly strangling his wife with her veil after complaining she was "becoming Australian". The jury was told the victim had claimed her husband punched her and told her her only purpose was to have babies.

Mohammad Memar Zadeh charged with RAPE

The spiritual leader of a Sydney religious group dedicated to divine love has faced court today on a charge of rape.
Mohammad Memar Zadeh, 38, of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order based in Balmain appeared via video link at Central Local Court this morning.
He was refused bail by the magistrate, Jane Culver, and remains in custody.
He did not enter a plea.
He was charged with aggravated sexual intercourse without consent in December with a woman who was, according to court documents, "under his authority" as spiritual leader of the organisation.
The alleged offence took place in Chatswood between 3pm and 5pm on December 5.
Mr Memar Zadeh was arrested by Newtown police on December 10 at the Sufi Centre on Mullens Street, Balmain, where he lived.
The Nimatullahi Sufi Order is a spiritual organisation dedicated to the "realisation of truth through love and devotion", its website says.
The centre offers a public space for meditation on Thursday and Sunday nights.
Prominent members of the organisation include advertising guru Siimon Reynolds, who was listed in NSW Government Fair Trading records as a public officer of the organisation from 2001 to 2009.
Mr Reynolds is the author of four self-help books including Become Happy in Eight Minutes.
The Iranian based Sufi order has branches in New York, London and Tehran.
The current "master" of the order, Alireza Nurbakhsh, a lawyer who lives in the order's estate in Banbury, England, has not responded to queries.
Mr Nurbakhsh succeeded to the role after his father, Dr Javad Nurbakhsh, died in October last year, aged 82.
Dr Nurbakhsh had been the master of the order since his appointment at the age of 26.
The case has been adjourned until April 22.

A 13-year-old Saudi schoolgirl is to be given 90 lashes in front of her classmates after she was caught with a mobile camera phone.
The girl, who has not been named, was also sentenced to two months in jail by a court in the eastern city of Jubail.
She had assaulted her headmistress after being caught with the gadget which is banned in girl schools, said Al-Watan, a Saudi newspaper. The kingdom's use of such punishments has been widely condemned by human rights organisations.

Three years ago 16 schoolchildren, aged between 12 and 18, were each sentenced to between 300 and 500 lashes for being aggressive to a teacher.
Under Saudi's Sharia or Islamic law, flogging is mandatory for a number of moral offences such as adultery or being alone in the company of an unrelated person of the opposite sex. But it can also be used at the discretion of judges as an alternative or in addition to other punishments.
Al-Watan said a court in the northeastern Gulf port of Jubail had sentenced the girl to 90 lashes inside her school, followed by two months' detention.
The punishment is harsher than that dished out to some robbers and looters.

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd and US President Barack Obama have a "tremendous affinity", a senior US diplomat said.
US Ambassador Jeffrey Bleich said the powerful pair had plenty in common.
Former PM John Howard was a close mate with then US president George W Bush, leaving no doubt as to the closeness of Australia's most important alliance.
Mr Bleich said that relationship was as strong as ever under the new leaders.
"I think there's a tremendous affinity between President Obama and Prime Minister Rudd," he told Sky News.
"They have a lot of things in common, they're of similar age, they have an appreciation for policy, they both grew up in Asia."
Mr Bleich pointed to Mr Obama's childhood years in Indonesia and Mr Rudd's years as a diplomat in China.
The US was refocussing on Asia under Mr Obama and saw itself as a "Pacific country", according to Mr Bleich.
After a year in office support for Mr Obama has fallen as the US grapples with the financial crisis, and some of the President's reforms hit roadblocks.
Mr Bleich said Mr Obama had picked tough areas for reform like climate change and health care and "you have to expect that there's going to be some criticism".
Finally someone, the American ambassador to Australia no less, has confirmed that Kevin 07 "I have never been a socialist" Rudd and the left wing community organizer, voice of Islam and the United Nations the President of the United States of America Hussein Obama, have so much in common.

BARACK Obama’s chances of winning a second term nosedived yesterday when the Democrats lost the Massachusetts Senate seat held by the late Ted Kennedy for the past 47 years and his brother John F. Kennedy for 10 years before that.
It is unlikely Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will be on the telephone seeking Obama’s advice on politics any time soon.
In a stunning victory, Republican state senator Scott Brown defeated the Democrat state Attorney-General Martha Coakley, becoming the first Republican to hold the seat since Henry Cabot Lodge Jr in 1946.
The defeat is a huge blow for Obama, who personally campaigned for Coakley in bitter cold and deep snow on Sunday.
Critically, the upset has the potential to derail Obama’s healthcare bill as it deprives the Democrats of the 60-vote majority needed to pass the legislation should the House alter the Bill and return it to the Senate for a vote.
Opposition leader Tony Abbott might like to call and congratulate Scott Brown, a 50-year-old lawyer, former model and National Guard volunteer who has served in the state legislature since 1966.
Like Abbott, Brown is not afraid of showing his body. When he was 22 he posed naked for a Cosmopolitan centrefold and won America’s sexiest man competition. He still strikes a manly figure, driving a ute - or truck, as the Americans say - to work.
Among the important lessons for the Rudd administration to be drawn from this result is that the cult of personality that sweeps some into office can just as speedily evaporate.
Another is the danger of a government claiming that any single piece of legislation is crucial to its administration.
A parallel could be drawn between Obama’s fixation with healthcare and Rudd’s hype about global warming and the need for his massive wealth redistribution plan.
The healthcare bill was seen by voters as an albatross around the necks of taxpayers in Massachusetts, which is the most Democrat-leaning state in the US.
A third is the danger in believing that a friendly media represents a friendly electorate.
With the notable exception of the Fox network, the US press has been as mushy and gooey about the Obama administration as “our” ABC has been about the Rudd pets - Jasper the cat and Abby the dog.
Yesterday it was announced that Rudd has been given a regular spot by his old media mates at Channel 7 in what is clearly a bid to boost a friendly image into households before the expected August election.
The segment was announced by producer Adam Boland, who was behind Rudd’s attempt to stage a phony Anzac Day service in PNG, and is being claimed as an example of “direct democracy”. Democracy, however, requires more than a single participant, unless Seven believes one-party democracy is what the nation needs. Rudd should tell us what he thinks about one-party states and explain their democratic virtues.
No matter how this is presented, Massachusetts has dealt a bad hand to both Obama and his Aussie acolyte.
Bo, the White House Portuguese water dog, better keep out of Obama’s way this week. The boss will not be happy.
Rudd’s pet cat and dog, Jasper and Abby, would also do well to keep a very low profile.

A JUDGE says it is concerning up to two men facing murder charges may have been involved in a gang who marred the first day of the Australian Open.
A mob of young men disrupted the opening day of the tennis with flares and unruly and anti-social behaviour.
The Victorian Supreme Court heard on Wednesday that possibly one man on bail for murder may have been involved.

Prosecutor Raymond Elston SC told the preliminary hearing it was asserted two of the men charged with murder were involved but it was not known who.
"One possibly (was involved). I don't know whether any others are. I don't believe any charges have been laid as a result," he said.
Justice Betty King said the matter was concerning.
"It's a little bit concerning when they're on bail for such serious offences," she said.
Eight men including one minor from Melbourne's western suburbs will face trial in the same court later this year charged with murder.
Another man pleaded guilty to murder and will face a pre-sentence hearing in March.

THE peak UN body on climate change has been dealt another humiliating blow to its credibility after it was revealed a central claim of one of its benchmark reports - that most of the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035 because of global warming - was based on a "speculative" claim by an obscure Indian scientist.
The 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which claimed to incorporate the latest and most detailed research into the impact of global warming, appears to have simply adopted the untested opinions of the Indian glaciologist from a magazine article published in 1999.
The IPCC report claimed that the world's glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish inside 30 years.
But the scientists behind the warning have now admitted it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's report.
It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
Mr Hasnain, who was then the chairman of the International Commission on Snow and Ice's working group on Himalayan glaciology, has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research.
The revelation represents another embarrassing blow to the credibility of the IPCC, less than two months after the emergence of leaked emails from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit, which raised questions about the legitimacy of data published by the IPCC about global warming.
One email written by a scientist referred to ways of ensuring information that doubted the veracity of man-made climate change science did not appear in IPCC reports.
Several emails also revealed that some scientists at East Anglia tried to bully colleagues who challenged the theory of man-made climate change.
Murari Lal, who oversaw the chapter on Himalayan glaciers in the 2007 IPCC report, said on the weekend he was considering recommending that the claim about glaciers be dropped.
"If Hasnain says officially that he never asserted this, or that it is a wrong presumption, then I will recommend that the assertion about Himalayan glaciers be removed from future IPCC assessments," Professor Lal said.
The IPCC's reliance on Mr Hasnain's 1999 interview has been highlighted by Fred Pearce, the journalist who carried out the original interview for New Scientist. Pearce said he rang Mr Hasnain in India in 1999 after spotting his claims in an Indian magazine.
"Hasnain told me then that he was bringing a report containing those numbers to Britain," Pearce said. "The report had not been peer reviewed or formally published in a scientific journal and it had no formal status so I reported his work on that basis.
"Since then I have obtained a copy and it does not say what Hasnain said. In other words, it does not mention 2035 as a date by which any Himalayan glaciers will melt.
"However, he did make clear that his comments related only to part of the Himalayan glaciers, not the whole massif."
The New Scientist report was apparently forgotten until 2005 when environmental group WWF cited it in a report called An Overview of Glaciers, Glacier Retreat, and Subsequent Impacts in Nepal, India and China. The report credited Hasnain's 1999 interview with New Scientist. But it was a campaigning report rather than an academic paper.
Despite this it rapidly became a key source for the IPCC when Professor Lal and his colleagues came to write the section on the Himalayas.
When published, the IPCC report gave its source as the WWF study but went further, suggesting the melting of the glaciers was "very likely". The IPCC defines "very likely" as having a probability of greater than 90 per cent.
Glaciologists find such figures inherently ludicrous, pointing out that most Himalayan glaciers are hundreds of metres thick and could not melt fast enough to vanish by 2035 unless there was a huge global temperature rise.
Julian Dowdeswell, director of the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge University, said: "A small glacier such as the Dokriani glacier is up to 120m thick. A big one would be several hundred metres thick and tens of kilometres long. The average is 300m thick so to melt one at 5m a year would take 60 years."
Some scientists have questioned how the IPCC could have allowed such a mistake into print. Professor Lal admits he knows little about glaciers.

AN UNRULY mob of Croatian fans set a sinister tone on the first day of the 2010 Australian Open.
About 60 aggressive and chanting supporters in Croatia's chequered colours lit flares and made offensive and threatening gestures as they marched en masse to Melbourne Park, scattering other shocked spectators in their way.
In a display that left onlookers disgusted, Herald Sun photographer Craig Borrow was spat on and punched as he photographed the chanting mob.

Security staff were waiting at the front gates to search them for contraband amid strict new measures for the tennis.
But some of the fans tried to dodge security by running up the stairs while others buried themselves in their their hoodies to hide their faces as they arrived.

Police numbers have been increased and CCTV camera zones expanded.
Supt John Cooke said late last week he was confident there would be no repetition of violent brawls that had marred the tournament in previous years.
"A number of people have been banned for the 24-hour period in the last couple of years, and those people certainly aren't welcome," Supt Cook said.
"We will have police inside and outside the venue throughout the event, supporting security," he said.
New powers are also available to police to deal with anti-social behaviour by fining people who are drunk or disorderly.
