Adultery mum to be stoned to death

An Iranian woman is sentenced to be stoned to death for committing adultery.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, 43, mother of two, has been convicted of adultery since 2006, in Tabriz, Iran.

Her lawyer, Mohammed Mostafaei, told AOL News, his client was innocent and has been framed by the Iranian government.

Mina Ahadi, an Iranian human rights activist who resides in Germany since fleeing iran in 1980, told AOL news that the government may decide Sakineh's fate as early as Saturday.

Mina, along with the convicted woman's children, Sajad, 22, and Farideh, 17 and other human rights group around the world, are working feverishly to stop this barbaric and inhumane act. They are hoping the public pressure would force the government to over turn the sentence.

According to Amnesty International, though Iran has supposedly banned stoning since 2002, the stunningly cruel punishment has continued. Between 1979 and 1997, 40 stoning have been recorded. Later records are said to be harder to come by.

Under Sharia law in Iran, a woman's death by stoning involves being buried up to the neck and having stones hurled at her head. The law even specifies the size of the stones: not so big that the victim dies quickly, but not so small that death takes an inordinately long time.

According to the London Guardian, Sakineh has already been punished in 2006, through flogging. Her son,Sajad, who was 17 at the time, witnessed this savagery in the form of 99 lashes. He is quoted as saying,"They lashed her just in front of my eyes...this has been carved in my mind since then."

Another Iranian Human Rights activist living in London, Maryam Namazie said the only thing that may save Sakineh is for people around the world to sign online petitions and call their government officials.

There must be some mistake here,  we all know that "Islam is a Religion of Peace" and that "Islam means Peace"
