A HOMEOWNER who fatally stabbed a young thief told emergency services he had "stuck" a burglar a "couple of times" during a bungled break-in, an inquest heard this morning.

Azzam Naboulsi, 30, died in hospital from knife wounds he suffered during a robbery at a Yagoona house in September 2011.

An inquest into his death held in court was today told Naboulsi has already returned to an associate's waiting car with one bag when he came back a second time and asked to be taken to a hospital because he was "hurt".

He had stolen several items from the house of Donald Brooke, 54, before the homeowner allegedly stabbed the intruder with a serrated, folding knife.

Counsel assisting the coroner Chris McGorey said the inquest would explore several issues - including whether a known person had committed a crime connected to the death.

Mr Brooke has not been charged over the incident.

I well remember this case and was struck by the parents and family of Azzam Naboulsi and their bold faced HONESTY concerning the death of their son and sibling, no chants of death to the infidel or the usual "He was such a good boy he neva do nutting to nobody" Somewhere in the vault I have the video of the original report and the family's reaction and comments after their son's death, they seemed like good people and freely acknowledged their sons miss deeds had finally caught up with him, yet another DEAD body donated to the alter of the victimless crime of illegal drug addiction.
What a fricking Hero Mohammed Baseer was who needs enemies with friends like him?
As for Mr Donald Brooke, what must he have been living since that day? a fricking no win all around

In a triple-0 call after the stabbing, he said someone had stolen "some gear" from his house and the intruder had a "stun machine" so he armed himself with a knife, the inquest heard.

"There is no blood on my knife but I stuck him a couple of times," he said.

Mr Brooke's neighbour Janet Akle told the coroner she saw the two men "pushing and shoving" at the back door then the young Arabic man ran towards a waiting car.

"My neighbour was screaming at him, asking him to come back because he was injured," she said.

Ms Akle said the young man had earlier knocked on her door and they had spoken briefly through her locked security screen before he told her "I'm sorry" and left.

"I went back to the window and maybe less than five minutes (later) I saw my neighbour arguing (with him)," she said.

Naboulsi's driver Mohammed Baseer told police he had no idea what the armed robber had been planning before he returned to the car injured and told him: "Hide everything or I will kill you.

He left the bleeding man on the street after being unable to find a hospital and initially hid Naboulsi's stun gun, but police later retrieved it after he admitted knowing where the weapon was.

The inquest continues today.
