Australia's Catholic PM Malcolm Turnbull is particularly wrong to suggest a key moral teaching of Christianity – a “golden rule” – is that of Islam, too.

MALCOLM Turnbull is very right to reach out to Australian Muslims. He is wrong, though, to tell untruths to non-Muslims.
And the Prime Minister, a Catholic, is particularly wrong to suggest a key moral teaching of Christianity – a “golden rule” – is that of Islam, too.
Last week Turnbull urged “mutual respect” between Muslim and non-Muslim Australians, even though most of the disrespect so far – as measured by bomb plots, sieges and attacks on police – seem to come from the extremist Muslim side.
Still, mutual respect is indeed critical if we’re not going to kill each other, so give Turnbull credit for at least winning the trust of many Muslim leaders.
But to back his appeal he added this: “Every religion, every faith, every moral doctrine, understands the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Too many of us have forgotten how Christianity shaped our society and are blind to how the Koran created radically different societies.
If we don’t understand those things, we’re clueless in dealing with the cultural clash we’ve so recklessly imported into our own suburbs.
What Turnbull claims is the “Golden Rule” of all faiths, is in fact a direct quotation from only one – from the Christians’ New Testament.
Luke’s Gospel quotes the alleged words of Jesus Christ himself: “Love your enemies ... If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also ... Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
These are powerful words of immense resonance in Christian countries.
It’s this ideal that gives such moral weight to Turnbull’s offer of “mutual respect” to a community which has produced 21 jihadists jailed for terrorism offences, and three more shot dead during attacks.
But contrast Christ’s “golden rule” and turning of the cheek with the Koran’s commands to strike hard at the enemy: “The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger ... will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land.”
True, the sacred Hadith do quote the Muslims’ prophet Muhammad, founder of their faith, stating: “None of you have faith until you love for your neighbour what you love for yourself.”
But that version of the “golden rule” seems limited to fellow Muslims, and has been interpreted that way by many scholars for many centuries.
No wonder, given that the Koran and Hadith give repeated examples of Muhammad and his followers killing his critics, including even women and poets who mocked him. No turning of the cheek there.
In vivid contrast, Christ would not let his disciples fight even to save him from capture and crucifixion.
There is another critical difference between the two religions that has helped set up this clash here of Christian and Muslim cultures.
The Jesus of the Gospels drew a line between church and state, which is why the Christian West has secular governments, not religious ones such as Iran and Saudi Arabia, which even bans the public practice of Christianity.
As John’s Gospel notes: “Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews’.”
In the Koran, the message is very different. Muslims should live under Muslim law where possible: “Allah hath sent down no authority: the command is for none but Allah ...”
This is why extremists refuse to stand in court for our judges or call our democracy “haram” – sinful. Moreover, the sacred Sahih Muslim urges Muslims to make nonbelievers submit to Muslim rule.
“Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them,” it says. “If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya (a tax on unbelievers) ... If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them.”
True, many Muslims do not live up to these ideals and don’t want to, either.
But it is foolish to pretend these Koranic teachings don’t exist or aren’t influential.
For instance, ISIS quoted holy scripture at least 25 times in its infamous statement last year ordering Muslims around the world to kill unbelievers – to “smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car”.
Those quotations included this, from the Koran: “Kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush.”
Last week gave another example of Muslim preachers citing the Koran to urge the killing of unbelievers.
Israel’s Jews have suffered a wave of stabbings by young Muslims over the past fortnight.
On Tuesday alone there were four attacks. In the worst, two men boarded a public bus, locked the doors and shot and stabbed passengers, killing two.
In another, a driver rammed his car into people at a bus stop and jumped out to hack at his victims with a knife, killing an elderly rabbi.
What motivates such savagery?
Here’s a clue. Giving the Friday sermon last week at the Al-Abrar Mosque in the Gaza strip, Sheikh Muhammad Sallah waved around a knife and shouted for Muslims to stab Israeli Jews.
“Attack in threes and fours,” he bellowed, and “cut them into body parts”.
“Some should restrain the victim, while others attack him with axes and butcher knives.”
And to justify this slaughter he quoted the example of Muhammad himself – “recall what He did to them in Khaybar” – in attacking and subjugating a Jewish tribe in a battle in 629.
Yes, moderate Muslims insist other parts of the Koran invalidate the passages quoted by extremists.
Good luck to them. Let’s back their attempts to reform Islam and make it safe for our multi-religious secular democracy.
But to reform Islam we must first admit there is something to reform. We cannot pretend, as Turnbull does, that Islam is as cheek-turning as Christianity.
Leave Islam out of the discussion and we’re just left with all this useless yammer about terrorism just being about “marginalised” youths facing “discrimination” and needing only a job or sympathetic ear to become as peaceful as, well, Buddhists or Presbyterians.
And we then we get the list of demands from people from whom more should be demanded – demands to ban criticism of Islam, to issue more grants and to scrap foreign policies that help Israel or hurt Islamist groups abroad.
No, Islam needs reform.
Without that, we’re left only with only two dark choices: submission or even more policing of our streets and our tongues.

Has NSW Premier come up with a plan to fight Islamic Terrorism?
Baird’s anti-terror plan sets the bar

THE tendency in this country to deny, dismiss or downplay acts of terrorism is as perplexing as it is dangerous.
It seems the default response among some timid or self-interested political and religious leaders, as well as the usual anti-Western bent of the fashionable Left, is to discount the clearly real threat of Islamic extremism or cloak it in politically correct jargon.
For this reason the clear words and firm courses of action advanced by Premier Mike Baird are as refreshing as they are necessary for the safety of our community. Little wonder he is the most popular political leader in the country.
Having courageously acknowledged the problem of Islamic extremism in the community — while of course not tarring all Muslims with that sad brush — the Premier is today unveiling a suite of anti-terror measures he has asked the Commonwealth to grant state authorities, while at the same time indicating NSW will go it alone in some areas if national agreement cannot be reached.
Tellingly, they come with the strong backing of Deputy Premier and Police Minister Troy Grant, himself a former cop who knows a criminal problem when he sees it.
This is the kind of clear, swift and decisive leadership ordinary people have been crying out for in the wake of the latest terror attack in Parramatta, and sits in stark contrast to the somewhat confused and directionless language coming from the federal government.
Little is more emblematic of this than Lindsay MP Fiona Scott’s bizarre pronouncement that the religiously inspired murder of police worker Curtis Cheng as “one little incident over 100 years”.
Notwithstanding how the family of Mr Cheng might feel about such a characterisation, it is in fact the third terrorist incident on home soil in barely over a year, culminating in the loss of three innocent lives and the deaths of the three perpetrators.
It also comes on top of well over 100 Australian deaths since the September 11 attacks, including the 88 killed in the Bali bombings.
In fact, 100 years ago — the time frame Scott mentions — was the year of Australia’s first known terrorist attack, when two Islamic men shot dead four people in Broken Hill, leaving a note declaring: “I must kill you and give my life for my faith, Allahu Akbar.” Those last two words were the ones Farhad Jabar cried as he killed Mr Cheng little over a week ago.
And of course Scott and other apologists also downplay the countless lives saved by Australian authorities who have thwarted attack plans. This kind of comment from an elected representative is, frankly, jaw-dropping, but sadly typical of the complacency that has beset many in this largely peaceful country.
Thankfully we have leaders like Mike Baird who plan to keep it that way.

PENRITH backbencher Fiona Scott has been slammed on social media after she claimed there had been “one little incident over 100 years” involving the Islamic community.
The federal member for Lindsay’s claim was made just days after the horrific Parramatta terrorist attack, less than a year after the Martin Place siege and a decade after the Pendennis plot.
Ms Scott made the claim in a Sky News interview at the weekend and the backlash became so bad her office removed the interview from her Facebook account.
Her comments caused a Twitter storm yesterday with claims she had insulted the family of the Parramatta victim Curtis Cheng.
When talking about relations with the Islamic community in Australia, Ms Scott said: “We’ve had 100 years, more than a century of relationships with our Islamic communities, where it’s lived quite peacefully and one little incident over 100 years has been what we have had.”
The social media response to the comment was ferocious.
One commenter said: “You are kidding Fiona, what an insult to the family and Australians.” Another asked: “Is this how current govt view the slaughter of Aust people.”
Ms Scott angrily denied the suggestion she was referring to the Parramatta attack during the interview. “To suggest I was referring to recent events in Martin Place and Parramatta is offensive and ridiculous,’’ she said in a statement.
“I was referring to an event in Broken Hill a century ago.”
Ms Scott had earlier made reference to Afghan cameleers who were among the first Muslims in Australia and who had the Ghan train named in their honour after their work on the iconic rail line.
She referenced them to highlight the long history of the cultures, but never mentioned the Battle of Broken Hill a century ago — an incident in which two men killed four people at a community picnic.
The Turnbull government has been criticised for a softer national security approach to that of Tony Abbott. Mr Turnbull was slammed for launching an app rather than addressing terrorism on the morning of terror raids in Sydney last week that followed the Parramatta attack.
His office did not comment on Ms Scott yesterday, but Mr Turnbull made a national security statement to parliament yesterday where he said national security was his top priority.
“The fact this atrocity was perpetrated by a 15-year-old boy reminds us that this must be a first order priority for all of us, every one of us.’

ON the face of it, Auburn’s controversial deputy mayor Salim Mehajer and his new wife Aysha look as though they have not got a care in the world.
Glamming it up for a magazine shoot, it’s all designer labels (Louis Vuitton slip-ons anyone?) and glistening white smiles.
Yet behind the scenes it is a carefully orchestrated campaign to overhaul the image of Australia’s now most-infamous couple.
Mr Mehajer’s image has been left in tatters after he was recently slapped with a personal violence order and charged with intimidating Bruce Herat, the father of Lindt siege survivor Joel Herat, at the gym he manages.
If convicted, the 29-year-old property developer and deputy mayor could face up to two years in jail. He will appear in a Sydney court next month.
That follows Mr Mehajer’s over-the-top wedding, which dominated headlines and closed down his Lidcombe street, as well as the constant flaunting of his ostentatious lifestyle.
One of the issues the pair address in the latest issue of New Idea magazine are constant rumours of plastic surgery.
“I take it as a compliment that people think I’ve had work done, to be honest,” Mr Mehajer says, while his wife, a former Wollongong girl, admits to the pair’s “love of beauty”.
“It’s important to feel comfortable and happy with yourself, and if you want to change your look, go for it,” she says.
Just last week, Mr Mehajer declared in a bizarre television interview that he would one day like to be prime minister.
Now he’s opened the doors of his luxury family home, boasting of his personal collection of 10 prestigious cars.
“Money is not important to me,” Mrs Mehajer said in the magazine interview.
“People can have millions and be completely miserable.”

MUSLIM leaders will hold crisis talks with Premier Mike Baird tomorrow in the wake of growing community outrage at the rise of Islamic extremism and the radicalisation of youth.
Around 10 Muslim leaders are being approached this weekend to attend the meeting with Mr Baird and Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.
Government sources were keen to play down the talks yesterday, describing the meeting as “a catch-up”.
However, the meeting has been hastily arranged in the wake of the Parramatta police station shooting and is a significant sign of the concern within State government ranks at the radicalisation of young Muslim into Jihadists.
The meeting comes as Prime Minister Malcolm Turbull convenes his own summit with security agencies in Canberra this week.

MUSLIM leaders will hold crisis talks with Premier Mike Baird tomorrow in the wake of growing community outrage at the rise of Islamic extremism and the radicalisation of youth.
Around 10 Muslim leaders are being approached this weekend to attend the meeting with Mr Baird and Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.
Government sources were keen to play down the talks yesterday, describing the meeting as “a catch-up”.
However, the meeting has been hastily arranged in the wake of the Parramatta police station shooting and is a significant sign of the concern within State government ranks at the radicalisation of young Muslim into Jihadists.
The meeting comes as Prime Minister Malcolm Turbull convenes his own summit with security agencies in Canberra this week.

A terror plot that involved the kidnapping and beheading of prison guards was also uncovered by jail intelligence and the growing group is threatening to murder jail ‘‘infidel’’ who will not convert.
There are believed to be at least 30 members of the growing ISIS gang in Goulburn jail alone and all non-Muslims were last month removed from the ‘‘Lebanese’’ yard to make one section of the prison an exclusively Islamic prison pod.
Goulburn is also home to SuperMax, where the state’s most dangerous inmates are held.
The drastic action to separate inmates by religion and race came after double murderer Darwiche was attacked by two Christian prisoners with links to the Assyrian Kings gang in a brutal stabbing.
Darwiche, who waged a murderous war against some of the Razzak family in Sydney from 2001 to 2009, was stabbed eight times by men wielding prison shivs made from a toilet brush and a sandwich toaster handle.
Although Darwiche was the victim of the stabbing, which arose out of conflict between radical Islamists and Christians, there’s no evidence he is a proponent of ISIS. This was the first act of extreme violence in a new type of prison gang warfare fuelled by terror.
“It was all terror related,’’ a Goulburn corrections officer said.
“Word on the street was most in that yard (had been radicalised) and they were going to take a hostage — one of the six Christians in the yard — and behead them.
“They were going to use mobile phones to post it on the internet. They were going to get them because they refused to join ISIS and convert to Islam.’’
But the ‘‘infidels’’ struck first in a daylight ambush. The attack happened in front of four prison guards.
“He was walking back from a visit and two blokes from his yard jumped him,’’ the officer said. “At the rear of the yard, they ambushed him and started stabbing him in the neck and the shoulder. One of the shivs was a sharpened toilet brush, the other was a handle of a Breville — a sandwich press.
“The intel said it was to do with the Muslims versus Christians war that is going on. The Muslims were going to kill one of the Christians and film it on their phone. There was also intel branching off from that saying they were going to get an officer. There was an Arabic intercepted message saying they were going to abduct an officer and behead him.’’

Powerful prison gangs including Brothers 4 Life and Will To Kill are beginning to merge because of the influence of self-styled sheiks such as Wassim Fayad, who was jailed for whipping a man 40 times with an electrical cord for supposedly breaking sharia law.
“(At least one influential prisoner) has taken his street gang and joined ISIS,’’ the guard said.
“ISIS is made up of all different gangs like Brothers 4 Life and Will to Kill. They come through and start associating with radical Islam. They’ve never come out and officially claimed they’re an ISIS gang, neither have the bosses, but that’s what is happening. You can definitely tell it’s going on. We’ve found ISIS flags, tattoos, and lots of other indicators. You could call it a prison gang.

A series of extreme measures has been introduced in Goulburn’s High Risk Management Unit to prevent inmates convicted of terror-related crimes from plotting attacks.
Men such as Mohamed Elomar and Abdul Hasan, part of the “Terror Five’’ who plotted a series of attacks in Sydney between 2004 and 2005, have been given a “AA” classification and have been banned from speaking Arabic.

Last month’s attack, which saw ‘‘force’’ used on eight inmates and gas deployed, prompted the removal of non-Muslims from the ‘‘Lebanese yard’’ in the general prison, but the inmates are still allowed to communicate in Arabic.
“There used to be eight of them (Christians) in the yard but they have all been moved,’’ the officer said.
“It is all Muslims now. They can still talk in Arabic on the phone, write Arabic in letters except for the HRMCC, where the sanctions have come in.
‘‘The rest of the jail has not changed. They have a study session — at least once a day — and all of the inmates sit down and listen to one guy.’’
Prison searches are uncovering ISIS indicators including flags and tattoos.

“The Lebanese never fought with each other until now. It’s all religious based and I would call ISIS a gang now. We are finding tattoos, taking photos of flags, and taking terror material from them.

MALCOLM Turnbull was at it again on Friday, patronising ordinary Australians. After a week refusing to talk about the terrorist attack on NSW police HQ in Parramatta, the Prime Minister held a press conference in which at least he called the murder of police accountant Curtis Cheng by a 15-year-old Muslim gunman “religiously motivated” — though he couldn’t bring himself to specify a particular religion.
But then he was back to lecturing us about tolerance, commanding us to engage in “mutual respect”. Presumably he still has in mind the fabled Islamophobia backlash that never seems to materialise.
We’ve had three terrorist attacks on home soil in the last year, resulting in the deaths of three innocent Australians and serious injury to two police officers, not to mention the curtailment of our freedoms and a sense of foreboding that is now the backdrop of any public event.
Police and military personnel are under such threat they have been told not to wear their uniforms in public.
Journalists have had to move house or beef-up security due to Islamist intimidation. It’s now commonplace for camera crews to be physically assaulted by family members or supporters of Muslim defendants or suspects outside court. This is the new normal.

Despite this assault on our way of life, there are no Islamophobic rampages. That is all a fantasy of moral poseurs, who reveal their own bigotry against ordinary Australians.
Perhaps because they live in privileged inner-urban mono-cultural enclaves like the PM’s unrepresentative electorate of Wentworth, they don’t realise that Australia is probably the most harmonious multicultural nation in the world.
They keep predicting anti-Muslim backlashes and the good sense of Australians keeps proving them wrong. Take Friday afternoon. Despite all the hype, the protest outside Parramatta mosque was a fizzer.
Mild protests
Only 20 showed up, and they were outnumbered at least three to one by belligerent so-called anti-racists, who staged a counter protest, with such peace-lovers as the Socialist Alliance waving placards with Nazi swastikas. There were more police and journalists than there were actual protesters.
The placards of the protesters were hardly rabble-rousing, with slogans such as: “Parramatta mosque, will you publicly reject terrorism and sharia law” and “Muslim terrorists not wanted here and neither are their left-wing supporters”.
Mild compared to the Hyde Park protest in September 2012 against the release on YouTube of the American satirical movie Innocence of Muslims. There the placards read: “Behead those who insult the Prophet”, and violent thugs went on a rampage.
Six police officers were injured in the ensuing riot, which featured Islamic State charmers Mohamed Elomar and Khaled Sharrouf, of head-chopping fame. Those rioters you could legitimately call a menace to our social fabric, not to mention life and limb. Violent Islamist bullies who demand special treatment and reject Australia’s egalitarian values are the problem, not an anti-halal Facebook page.
If anything, Australia has pandered to the victim culture that cripples the Muslim community’s ability to tackle the poison in its midst.

When Ahmed Fahour, the Muslim CEO of Australia Post, who earned $4.8 million last year, starts telling us Australia’s Muslims are uniquely “excluded” and hard done by, you have to wonder if he ever looks in the mirror.
Success and prosperity in Australia are available to anyone, of any race or creed, provided they work for it, and Fahour is living proof. Rather than inspiring Muslims to follow his lead, he perpetuates the grievance mentality. In a speech last week, he reserved his harshest words for far-right “pockets of intolerance” he said promote the idea that Islam and the West are incompatible, and protest against mosques and halal certification.
He praised the Twitter hashtag “I’ll ride with you” that sprang up during the Martin Place siege, and was supposed to combat an impending Islamophobic backlash that never occurred.
“It restored a sense of belonging amongst Australian Muslims. It reinforced my sense of citizenship,” said Fahour.
But the hashtag was a bogus response to a virtually non-existent problem which neglected the real victims of the siege, two of whom were soon to die. The obscenity of prioritising theoretical victims of intolerance over actual victims of terrorism discredited the whole campaign. The hashtag became the symbol of the Left’s divisive fostering of unreasonable Muslim sensitivities. The hashtag’s solidarity should have been directed at the hostages in that cafe. Muslim and non-Muslim, should have been united in sympathy that day.
Instead, some used the opportunity to assert their moral superiority over people they mistakenly regard as less enlightened.

The crime outfit founded by convicted murderer Bassam Hamzy has turned on itself, with several high-profile members attempting to seize control of the gang from inside our toughest jails.
In a dramatic move to stop a recent spate of jail violence, Corrective Services has split the gang with the power-players removed from Goulburn jail and sent under top security to other NSW prisons.
“The Department has had to move all the bosses to stop them from killing each other,’’ said a Goulburn prison guard.
“The have been split up and sent to Lithgow, Long Bay, Goulburn, Nowra, and the Mid North Coast.’’
With at least 100 members locked up in NSW, Brothers 4 Life are one of the state’s biggest prison gangs.
Outlaw motorcycle gangs control still control the bulk of the prison drug trade with the Hell’s Angels running Long Bay Jail, the Comancheros and Bandidos controlling Lithgow and the Rebels strong in Goulburn, but Brothers 4 Life have a violent presence at every prison in NSW.
“The BFL are fighting with each other,’’ the officer said.
“They are trying to take control of the empire. Some have been moved out of the main jail in Goulburn and sent to the HRMU because of all the trouble. Others have been shipped across the state. All the chapters are fighting and trying to take the whole thing. Farhad Quami is fighting with Hamzy and so is (another notorious criminal).
“Hamzy is now locked away so tightly that he can’t effectively run things. He is still trying to dictate but this Quami is involved in everything”

Members of defunct bikie gang Notorious have patched over to Brothers 4 Life, boosting the outfit’s prison presence.
“The Notorious guys at Goulburn are getting there tattoos removed and are coming back and joining BFL,’’ said a Goulburn officer.
“There would be at least 100 of them in NSW jails and there would be five bickering chapters. There are 30 in Long Bay alone.’’
Long Bay Jail is regarded as a Hells Angels prison although former Notorious boss Sam Ibrahim is still a powerful jail enforcer.

“But Sam is about to get deported and Michael is in Nowra so that will change.’’
Goulburn Jail is considered to be controlled by the Rebels.

“Wars on the street become wars in jail. Also if you have drug raids on the outside we are also doing them on the inside too because they are all linked. The blokes in jail speak to their counterparts outside and it is all drugs, steroids and guns.
“Even operations on the outside can be run from jail because they smuggle in mobile phones. They is not much we can do about it. We tap phones and pass information onto police.
Prison gangs conduct jail standovers and drug deals.
“They get people to bring drugs in for them,’’ an officer said.
“They then get people to sell it for them. They also do standovers. They steal buy-ups (items inmates have purchased from the prison shop) and put it over people. We try and keep on top of it by moving them around and generally we keep them under control. The drugs they mainly deal in are steroids and buprenorphine.’’

Phase 3: When muslims constitute over 20% of the population a holy war begins (jihad). Muslim areas of the city (ghettos) now become inaccessible to non-Muslims. Full implementation of ghetto Sharia laws begin, along with conducting terrorist attacks for secession and the creation of an Islamic state.
Norway, is already in phase 3. The terrorist organization Ansar al-Sunna threatens that if the capital Oslo is not recognized by the Norwegian State as a Muslim city and a Muslim nation they will declare a holy war, with all that this entails.
