Julia Gillard and Australia's First Cuckold in the Lodge
Bath, blowdry and barracking for the PM
SUE DUNLEVY
Daily Telegraph
November 15, 201212:00AM
WHEN he's not running her bath, fetching the newspaper or blowdrying her hair the Prime Minister's partner, Tim Mathieson, is often flopped on the couch at The Lodge watching her in parliament.
There's no misogyny at play in the home of Australia's badass PM.
Mr Mathieson has revealed he watched the PM deliver her world famous misogyny speech at home and was "pretty impressed".
"I was sitting on the couch watching and thought, I think there's a bit more going on here than normal at question time," he said.
"It sort of bolted me up in my chair, yeah."
Once the speech became an international phenomenon via the internet, text messages came in from his two daughters Staci and Sherri saying it was "amazing".
When Ms Gillard returned home very late that night Tim was asleep but he says he woke up and drew her a bath.
"Obviously she'd had a big day," he said.
The PM's partner says he thinks her misogyny speech was "probably warranted".
"I just think when people get into question time it's all on really," he said.
"She's a pretty tough lady and I kind of figure she's got respect worldwide."
Despite being the partner of one of the world's most famous feminists the "First Bloke" says "nothing has changed" in their home life since the speech - "it's all good".
Born in Shepparton the former hairdresser has often spoken of how he has to pinch himself to make sure he really is in attendance at great international events like the Royal Wedding in London.
At home at The Lodge he behaves like a very caring and solicitous partner, delivering the busy PM her morning paper and helping with an early morning blow wave for the television cameras.
"Then I have to recover during the day and sit on the couch and watch parliament which usually puts you to sleep, except for that day," he said.
Mr Mathieson revealed his quiet pleasure in presenting Ms Gillard with the morning newspapers on Tuesday that revealed the government's latest lift in the polls.
"It was good to take The Australian in to give it to her and go "not a bad look over here," he said.
"She was just going about her business, but for me it was good to wake up to that."
He says Ms Gillard appears to have had more spring in her step since she received a lift in the polls.
"It makes me a bit more happy about things, I guess," he said. "I don't follow it too much, but it's a bit easier or a bit lighter if things are going a bit better."
He doesn't attribute the government's improved poll performance to the misogyny speech and instead sees it as just part of a "natural cycle".
"It was always going to level up a bit, you know, after a period of time. Pretty much all the hard stuff has now been done," he said.
He predicts the polls will get "even closer" in the lead up to the election.
Mr Mathieson's father suffers from diabetes and he yesterday hosted a lunch for World Diabetes Day at The Lodge.
The food was specially prepared to be diabetes friendly and included one of the Prime Minister's favourite dishes - caesar salad.
A spelling glitch in the menu however described the salad as being "full of victims and a good source of slow release for protein".
Mr Mathieson is also an ambassador for Kidney Health Australia and a patron of the Australian Men's Sheds Association and says he enjoys the work he does promoting these causes.
He's spent the last year travelling to many of Australia's country towns to promote men's health and took part in the Kidney Health car rally.
"I'm really interested in the indigenous side of diabetes," he says.
He talks of trying to raise the profile of the issue with Pacific Island spouses at the Pacific Island Forum and the ASEAN conference next week.

Slush fund claims raise fresh leadership tension for Prime Minister Julia Gillard
Simon Benson
The Daily Telegraph
August 20, 2012
PRIME Minister Julia Gillard is facing new leadership concerns among key cabinet and caucus supporters over the revival of an alleged 17-year-old union slush fund scandal involving her former boyfriend.
"I did nothing wrong. Have you got an allegation to put to me? If you do not, why are we discussing this?"
Senior government sources have confirmed that over the past two weeks a growing "unease" had crept into the Gillard camp about the scandal "blowing up" and crippling her leadership.
Those fears were compounded yesterday during a fiery interview on Sky's Australian Agenda, when Ms Gillard refused to address allegations raised against her.
"I did nothing wrong. Have you got an allegation to put to me? If you do not, why are we discussing this?" she said.
Ms Gillard has previously denied any knowledge that her then-boyfriend, Australian Workers Union State secretary Bruce Wilson, had allegedly ripped off a union fund that Ms Gillard had set up for him when she was a lawyer with Slater & Gordon in the early '90s.
She refused to answer claims yesterday that she was forced to resign from the firm following an internal investigation in August, 1995.
Instead she hit out at what she claimed was a "malicious and motivated" campaign against her.
Slater & Gordon late yesterday released a short statement, claiming to have been given permission by Ms Gillard, confirming it conducted a review into the AWU/Wilson affair.
"Ms Gillard co-operated fully with the review and denied any wrongdoing," the firm's managing director Andrew Grech said.
"The review found nothing which contradicted the information provided by Ms Gillard at the time in relation to the AWU/Bruce Wilson allegations and which she has stated consistently since the allegations were first raised."
It claimed that Ms Gillard took leave of absence following the review to campaign for the senate, before her employment officially ended on May 3, 1996 when she joined the office of Victorian Opposition Leader John Brumby.
Allegations were raised at the weekend by a former partner at the firm, Nick Styant-Browne, suggesting Ms Gillard may have acted improperly in helping set up a slush fund for Mr Wilson.
Mr Styant Browne claimed that Ms Gillard said in an interview as part of a formal review of the matter conducted by the firm in 1995, that she could not categorically rule out that she had personally benefited from union funds in the renovation of her Melbourne house.
Mr Styant-Browne said yesterday that he stood by the article and the claims made.
"I think what I have said speaks for itself.
"And I am not aware of any denial by the PM or her spokesperson of any specific allegation about what she said in the Slater & Gordon internal interview," he told The Daily Telegraph.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said Ms Gillard had "questions to answer" to the parliament. "I think there are real issues that the PM needs to address," he said.

Swearing Kevin Rudd video posted on You Tube under the title Happy Little Vegemite

KEVIN Rudd's expletive-laden outburst in the outtakes of a taxpayer-funded video have emerged as an internet sensation after it was posted on YouTube under the title "Kevin Rudd is a happy little vegemite"
As the Prime Minister's backers declared war on the Foreign Minister's fitness for office, the video was causing a sensation on the social networking site Twitter.
The video, which is not dated, clearly shows an exasperated Mr Rudd swearing as he repeatedly fluffs his lines
"Mate, this is just impossible. I get the very end. You can tell these dickheads in the embassy to just give me simple sentences. I've said this before,'' Mr Rudd says.
COULD Kevin Rudd be this vindictive? Our complex, brilliant, idiosyncratic, angry former prime minister.
"Tell that bloody interpreter. This f***ing language just complicates it so much, you know. How can anyone do this. It's just..
"Tell em to cancel this meeting at 6pm ...I don't have the patience to deal with. The f***ing Chinese interpreter. Just f***ing hopeless,'' he says.
The video was uploaded by "Happy Little Vegemite" on Friday, Mr Rudd has repeatedly used the term when asked if he would launch a challenge against Julia Gillard for the Labor leadership.
Below is the uncensored version of the video as posted on You Tube.WARNING: CONTAINS FREQUENT USE OF THE F-WORD

Madame Gillard unleashes Green “Goebbels” Loons loose on Australian Free Press

THE Greens want Government powers to force the break-up of newspaper groups as well as the licensing of newspapers to be considered at a federal inquiry into the media.
Greens deputy leader Christine Milne today said the media convulsions in Britain around unacceptable privacy breaches meant it was "opportune" for an inquiry here.
"The important thing here is that out of the scandal in the UK there is an opportunity now for Australia to look at a number of issues," Senator Milne said.
"One is concentration of the media ownership for the print media in Australia.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard is considering the Greens demands for a full inquiry, but far that might be limited to discussion of privacy recommendations made by the Law Reform Commission in 2008.
Senator Milne confirmed the Greens policy is for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to be given the power to order the divestment of media groups "where those mergers fail a media-specific public interest test".
"Let's see what an inquiry has to say about what the broader community think about the divesting of assets and the breaking up of some of these companies and controls of separate parts of the media," she said.
"I think the time is opportune for a broad ranging inquiry and I for one don't have preconceived ideas about what that might look like.
"But I do think the Australian community is asking questions as a result of this scandal in the UK and they have a right to now think about what that media environment might look like into the future."
The Greens have already said an inquiry should look at why there is "no licensing or independent oversight of major newspapers" - a bid for newspaper licensing by the Government.
The Prime Minister today was asked by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to "put up or shut up" after she yesterday said News Ltd Australia had "hard questions" to answer.
News Ltd, the publisher of news.com.au, is related to News International, which is at the centre of the British upheaval.
"There is no evidence whatsoever to any of the practices, the reprehensible practices, that we saw at one newspaper in England have any currency here in Australia," Mr Abbott said today.
"The Prime Minister must specify exactly what those questions are and if she can't specify exactly what those questions are, what she's doing is just smearing a perfectly good organisation.
"Frankly, it demeans our polity for this kind of thing to go on. I call on the Prime Minister to put up or shut up when it comes to those sorts of issues."
Today the Prime Minister said the questions were "very simple" following the British events.
"And consequently it's common sense that having seen the kind of reports we've seen from the United Kingdom Australians would be asking themselves, 'Could that happen here? What does this mean for us in Australia?'
"Very simple questions like that."

Refugee Action Coalition & Council for Civil Liberties demand end to punitive policies
Solicitors visiting asylum seekers now incarcerated at Silverwater prison are shocked at what they have seen. Stephen
Blanks, solicitor and secretary of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties briefly interviewed two of the 22 (mostly Iranians
and Kurds) locked up there. He said: “They are in solitary confinement, locked down for 18 hours a day with no access to
communication, either with each other or with the outside world. There are no toothbrushes, no showers, not even any
toilet paper.
“They’ve ended up in prison without any charges being laid and without any supervision from a court. I’ve lodged a
complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission. One of them told me that when he was forcibly removed from
his bed in Villawood early in the hours of Good Friday, that a guard pushed handcuffs into his wrist, and laughed.
Mark Goudkamp from the Refugee Action Coalition added: “These conditions in Silverwater are unacceptable in a
democratic society. It is also highly ironic given many Iranians detainees fled the Ahmadinejad government’s crackdown
on mass pro-democracy protests in 2009. That Australian authorities think treating people in this way is acceptable is
nothing short of scandalous. Australia frequently condemns human rights abuses in Iran, including in Tehran’s notorious
Evin prison.”
Meanwhile, a planned visit to celebrate Easter Sunday with Villawood detainees has had to be cancelled. Mark Goudkamp
said, “When I rang Serco yesterday, I was told we couldn’t visit friends in detention because Villawood is a ‘crime scene’.
Immigration and Serco are consciously trying to sow divisions among detainees, telling them that the reason visiting is
banned indefinitely is because the rooftop protest is continuing. That this ban includes Stage 1, which was completely
unaffected by Wednesday’s riots, is completely unreasonable and continues the rotten culture of collective punishment
that was a feature of detention under John Howard and Phillip Ruddock. The ban on visits over Easter is diametrically
opposed to the spirit of goodwill that this festive holiday is supposed to represent.
“Despite being prevented from receiving visitors, our asylum seeker friends are looking forward to a strong show of
support outside Villawood tomorrow afternoon. Acting PM Wayne Swan’s view that our march is inappropriate because it
coincides with Anzac Day are quite ridiculous when you consider that Afghanistan, where Australian soldiers are currently
being killed, is also by far the largest source country for asylum seekers. 2267 of the nearly 7000 people now in detention
come from there. Many democratically minded diggers, who themselves went to war thinking they were fighting against
dictatorships and repression, will understand why we are protesting. They are welcome to join us.”
The Sydney action, which is part of a national series of protests against mandatory detention, will assemble at 12 noon at
Chester Hill train station, before marching to the Gurney Rd side of Villawood. Former detainees from Iran, Afghanistan
and Iraq will address the rally, along with psychiatrist Michael Dudley, the Greens, the Teachers Federation, and the
Refugee Action Coalition.
Meanwhile at Curtin detention centre in remote WA, between 300-500 detainees are on hunger strike, and protesting
against the length of time it is taking to process their claims. Around 60 protesters have arrived after a two day bus
journey from Perth, hoping to visit detainees, and to protest against mandatory detention. There will also be a protest at
Maribyrnong detention centre in Melbourne.

Coalition NSW) 0422078376, or Ian Rintoul (for comments on Curtin action and hunger strike) 0417713275.

Australians tell Madame Gillard, Australia’s Socialist Liar for Hire PM just how popular she really is, whilst fellow Socialist Hussein Obama sings her praises.
Every day it is becoming clearer just how much of a mess Labor is in.
Five days before the last election Julia Gillard promised: “There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead.” Now, with Ms Gillard caving in to the Greens and breaking her promise, Australians face a new tax and extra pressure on family budgets.
At a time when Australians are already doing it tough, Labor’s carbon tax will unnecessarily lift electricity, grocery and petrol prices and attack jobs in our key industries.
In a major address delivered in Adelaide last night, Tony Abbott warned of the cost of Labor’s carbon tax.
He said:
“Even at $26 a tonne, a carbon tax would add an average of $300 a year to electricity bills (and $500 in NSW). It would add 6.5 cents to the cost of a litre of petrol. At this rate, a carbon tax would raise about $10 billion a year without materially reducing emissions because consumers have previously absorbed price rises of this magnitude.“A carbon tax of about $25 a tonne would close 16 coal mines and cost 10,000 jobs in coal mining (according to Access Economics). It would cost 24,000 jobs in mining generally (according to ACIL). It would cost 45,000 jobs in emissions-intensive industries (according to Frontier Economics). It’s “economic vandalism” according to the head of Bluescope Steel that will drive manufacturing jobs offshore.
“A carbon tax would add 25 per cent to the price of electricity and up to five per cent to the cost of groceries because power and transport costs are embedded in the price.”
For Labor and the Greens the only answer is tax, tax, tax.
The Coalition knows there is a better way. Our direct action plan on climate change is economically responsible and won’t cost Australian jobs.

English-speaking countries should hold on to identities: Howard
TodayOnline
Sep 30, 2010
WASHINGTON - Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard has attacked "multiculturalism" in English-speaking nations, while urging countries to hold on firmly to their cultural identities in the battle against
terrorism.
Mr Howard said on Tuesday on a visit to Washington that the "Anglosphere" needed to take greater pride in its values and achievements.
"I think one of the errors that some sections of the English-speaking world have made in the last few decades has been to confuse multiracialism and multiculturalism," Mr Howard said at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank.
He pointed in particular to Britain, whose Muslim community came under the spotlight after the 2005 bombings on the London transport system.
He declared that he was "a passionate believer in multiracialism", in which migrants from different cultures of the world adopt the culture of their new country.
"I believe that societies are enriched if they draw ... from all parts of the world on a non-discriminatory basis," he said.
"But when a nation draws people from other parts of the world, it draws them because of the magnetism of its own culture and its own way of life.
"People want to live in the United States not because of some futuristic ideal of multiculturalism but because of what they regard as the American way of life and American values," he said.
Mr Howard also warned that Islamic radicalism posed a real threat and warned against pandering to extremist philosophies in order to win their support.
"There is a tendency to see a response to terrorism in terms of placating alternative philosophies in the hope that they will accommodate you and abandon their aggressive designs on your society," he said.
The "Anglosphere" and other countries should not apologise for their cultur al identities but instead stand up for their beliefs, Mr Howard said. Agencies
Pretty straight forward and logical comments I would have thought… but wait, Howard is like the overwhelming majority of the Earths population NOT a Muslim, so what does Australia’s Muslim Idiot in search of a village in residence say in reply to Howards wise words….

“………………………….Islamic Friendship Association of Australia president Keysar Trad said Mr Howard's comments were racist.
"He should find relevance in the world without picking on minorities," he said. "I think it is really a guilty conscience."
Mr Trad said Mr Howard had a "phobia" about multiculturalism.
"There is no harm of having a different understanding of variety of cultures in a society," he said.
Rachel Bloul, a sociologist who specialises in Muslim migrants in the West at the Australian National University, said Mr Howard's comments were "inappropriate' and "not at all smart".
"Each time when the question of Muslim migrants is taken up by politicians it inflames debate even more than is necessary," Dr Bloul said.
"I'm sure it would create problems in Australia."

Australian Federal Election: Labor Party censors Union appointed PM’s website,What the Labor Party did not want you to read about Julia Gillard. hear what they did not want you to read.
Matthew Franklin From:
The Australian
August 05, 2010
THE Labor Party has been caught posting an incomplete transcript of a recent Julia Gillard interview on her official website.
It excised its references to her youthful involvement in the Socialist Forum.
The party also excluded from its official record criticism of the Prime Minister's proposal for a citizens' assembly to seek a consensus on climate change policy, along with questions over whether Labor had made deals with the Greens in return for electoral preferences.
The Australian has established that a transcript on Labor's website purporting to reflect an interview the Prime Minister gave on Sydney's 2GB on July 27 excludes several minutes of the interview, the equivalent of seven pages worth of transcript.
A Labor campaign spokesman said last night the omission -- the exclusion of a single chunk of about a third of the interview -- was the result of an oversight in the transcribing process. "It has now been fixed and replaced on the website," the spokesman said.
During the excised section of the interview, Jones asked about Ms Gillard's acknowledged involvement in the Socialist Forum, which he described as having been "formed from the old Communist Party". Jones said Ms Gillard had said in a radio interview three years ago she had been involved with the forum "more than 20 years ago" while the Parliamentary Register of Interests said she had been involved between 1998 and 2002. He also said a 1994 flyer for a Socialist Forum event described her as a member of its management committee.
It was at this point that Labor's transcript resumed. It correctly records Ms Gillard as saying she worked for the organisation at university and retained involvement when it merged with the Fabian Society.
Ms Gillard described Jones's questions as "a load of old cobblers" and strongly defended her record on national security, rejecting the relevance of her university activities to the current election campaign.
The transcript on the Labor website also excluded an exchange in which Jones referred to criticism of the proposed citizens' assembly.
It also excluded Jones's questioning Ms Gillard on whether Labor's preference deal with the Greens came with behind-the-scenes agreements on climate change policy. The Prime Minister insisted she had made no policy deals with the Greens.
Labor Party sources said last night the error was inadvertent; political operators knew that any attempt to doctor transcripts would inevitably be detected.
"If it had been doctored specific passages would have been excluded. But this was one chunk and it was just left out in error," one source said.
