THOUSANDS of Muslims gathered in Lakemba Mosque overnight for a major religious celebration known as "the night of power''.

More than 10,000 Muslim worshippers amassed at Lakemba Mosque on Wangee Rd for a night they consider to be more holy than any other, Laylat al-Qadr - The night of power.

"Tonight is the Laylat al-Qadr,'' Adnan Alameddine, 19, from Greenacre said. "It's a night where all Muslims celebrate the day that Allah sent down the Quran to Prophet Mohammed.''

The huge numbers were anticipated by police who closed the street allowing cars to park wherever they could so worshippers could get inside the Mosque and converse on the roadway afterwards.

During this celebration one night of prayer is said to equate for 1,000 months of proper worship.

"We're just all here gathered today to celebrate it by praying, reading Quran and listening to all the Sheiks,'' Mr Alameddine said. "It's a good night.''

A new report says Muslim extremists in Indonesia are regrouping despite a decade long crackdown. The deadliest networks have been weakened but Islamists are finding each other and building new cells on the run, in prison and through internet forums. AUSTRALIANS should not be scared of Sharia law because it is consistent with our own culture and values, the country's new Muslim leader says.

Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamed yesterday said his goal as the Grand Mufti of Australia was "clarifying the misconceptions about our religion".

He said debate was clouded by misunderstanding and a focus on the more extreme punishments, such as a death penalty for Muslims who convert to another religion.

"It's not fair that you just look at one element out of a hundred elements in the Sharia law and make that element to be the most important thing," he said.

"We see a lot of the Australian culture and values are part of our Sharia law.

"Freedom is a Sharia law, respecting others is a Sharia law, justice is a Sharia law, tax and paying tax and fulfilling your obligations is also considered to be a Sharia law, respecting others and honouring others, that is all Sharia law," he said.

Dr Abu Mohamed insisted the Muslim community believed in a democratic system: "We are a democratic nation, and whatever the majority votes for is what goes."

He also hit out at talk that radical groups were drawing young Muslims to extremism and violence, saying "evilness always had followings".

"Extremism and radicalisation is not just in Islam and among Muslims, it does exist in all societies and all communities," he said.

He also said Australian troops in Afghanistan had the potential to inflame passions in the community, adding: "It is a nature of mankind that if there is any oppression upon any nation that our emotions start to move and react."

The Victorian Supreme Court has heard a man convicted of planning an terror attack in Sydney was an advocate of Australia's "fair-go" culture.
Somalian-born Saney Aweys is one of three men convicted last year of plotting an armed terror attack on the Holsworthy Army Base.
At a plea hearing today, several witnesses have given character evidence.

 
They said he volunteered extensively in a community-based integration program for African refugees in the western suburbs and was an enthusiastic advocate of Australia's "easy-going" and "fair-go" culture.
But Justice Betty King told his lawyer, that evidence was "entirely inconsistent" with his client's phone-tapped comments played during the trial.
In those calls, he joked about Australians being killed in the Jakarta hotel bombings and that Black Saturday was divine intervention to punish Australians for jailed Muslims.
Justice King told the court a plan to go into an army base and shoot until your guns are empty demonstrates an un-Australian attitude.

A VICTORIAN court has found three men guilty of planning a terrorist attack on an Australian army base in Sydney.
Another two men who also stood trial over the alleged planned attack have been found not guilty.
A Victorian Supreme Court trial, which has been running for three months, was told the five men planned a shootout at the Australian Army Barracks at Holsworthy in the belief Islam was under attack from the west.
The jury heard the men took steps to obtain a religious decree to endorse the attack at the barracks and shoot as many people as possible until they were killed or overwhelmed, to advance Islam.
Wissam Mahmoud Fattal, 34, of Melbourne, Saney Edow Aweys, 27, of Carlton North and Nayef El Sayed, 26, of Glenroy were found guilty of conspiring to prepare for or plan a terrorist act between February 1, 2009 and August 4, 2009.

BUILDINGS BURN AT VILLAWOOD DETENTION CENTRE

At least three buildings in stage 3 are on fire and one major fire has
been set in the grounds of the stage 3 compound. Fire engines are
racing to the detention centre to attend to the fires.

There are reports that windows have been broken in the management office.

Villawood detention centre is in uproar as more asylum seekers stage
protests in the grounds of stage 3 inside the detention centre, while
the roof top protest of 13 asylum seekers continues.

Serco guards have withdrawn from the compound.

There are 13 people on the roof-top protest – three Kurdish, two
Iranian and eight Afghan asylum seekers. There have been in detention
for between 13 and 20 months.

“We are too tired,” one of the detainees told the Refugee Action
Coalition, “Everyone is too tired. I have never seen Villawood like
this – everyone is protesting. Everything is burning now.”

THREE commercial passenger planes have been targeted by a laser pointer in Sydney.
Police say the three incidents happened within an hour and half of each other last night as the planes were approaching the airport in Mascot.
The pilot of the third flight was struck in the eye by the high powered light.
Each of the planes landed safely.
Flight crews told police that the laser appeared to be coming from the Cronulla or Brighton areas.
High powered laser pointers are prohibited weapons and can't be possessed without a permit.

Three passenger jets approaching Sydney airport have struck by a high powered laser, one pilot being hit in the eye.
People who point laser lights at planes should be treated like terrorists under the law, says a passenger who had a bright green beam shone at his window as his flight landed in Sydney overnight.
Laser lights were shone at three passenger planes last night, including a Qantas flight from Brisbane just after 9pm, police said.
Michael Manikas, who was on that flight returning home from a business trip, said a bright green light was shone at his window.
"I saw it flash around and it was pretty bright so it must have hit around the window where I was looking out.
"It's a stupid thing to do. I think they should be charged the same as a terrorist should be.
"If they bring a plane down, they've got 100 or 200 lives at risk."
A Jetstar flight was targeted about 10.25pm and a light was flashed into a Virgin Blue cockpit three minutes later, dazzling the pilot, police said.
All flights landed safely.
Police believe the incidents were linked and the laser was being shone from Cronulla or Brighton Le Sands.
Miranda police Inspector Leonard James said he could not understand what compelled people to target planes.
"It's a serious offence," Inspector James said. "The 400 or however many people on board that are at risk, plus anyone on the ground ... it's quite serious."
A spokesman from the Australian and International Pilots Association said laser lights could seriously distract pilots.
"Even at altitude, it can still be distracting because the natural tendency for anyone is to follow the source of the light.
"That can obviously dazzle you and even if it doesn't, it's just an unwanted distraction especially going through the reasonably complicated process of landing."
A spokesman for Qantas said: "Generally speaking, it's an irresponsible and dangerous thing to do, so we condemn it unequivocally."
People found with high powered laser pointers without a permit face two years in jail.

A Brisbane woman is suing a luxury United Arab Emirates resort after she was jailed for adultery when she complained of being drugged and

raped by three men.

Alicia Gali was sentenced to 12 months in prison after an assault by three co-workers while drinking at the Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort

staff bar in Fujairah, UAE in June 2008.

After reporting the incident to police, Ms Gali was jailed for adultery and served eight months before being pardoned in March 2009 and

returning to Australia.

At a hearing in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday, Maurice Blackburn lawyers were granted leave to sue the hotel, alleging Ms Gali's

employer breached its workplace obligations by failing to have systems in place to protect their workers against assault.

Maurice Blackburn claims the hotel encouraged staff to drink alcohol in the staff bar without a permit, creating an environment where it was

easy for a drink to be spiked.

In the UAE it is illegal to have sex outside of marriage.

One basis for the firm taking action in Australia is that Alicia took a contract with the company while she was in Queensland.

"Alicia's employer has let her down in the most terrible, terrible of ways," Maurice Blackburn associate Melissa Payne said.

"A company like this should know better.

"There are many things they could have done and should have done to protect Alicia.

"These include having segregated secure quarters for its female employees and providing adequate induction and training as to the local

laws and customs for its foreign employees.

"This resort promotes itself as 'paradise on earth' but it certainly wasn't paradise for Alicia."

According to Ms Payne, Ms Gali has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, claustrophobia and nightmares as a

result of the incident and her eventual imprisonment.

In a statement, Ms Gali said she wanted to warn other women about the danger of working in countries where laws were "archaic."

"I still feel angry and upset and it's distressing because I was a victim in all of this and I was punished – the laws have to change to protect

women and give them rights and the Australian government should use its influence to push for changes to laws," the statement read.

"The UAE is being promoted hugely here as a tourism destination.

"They are not complying with human rights, women's rights and migrant workers' rights."

Ms Gali said she thought she would feel safe and protected in the employ of an international hotel group but believes she was not given the

correct advice and no one from the company helped her when she was charged and imprisoned.

She stated she did not want the incident to be manipulated into an anti-Muslim or anti-Arab attack.

"The men involved were foreign nationals, they were not from the Middle East.

"Two were from India and one from Mauritius."

Maurice Blackburn believes the three men were imprisoned as a result of the assault.

The firm will be drawing on human rights and labour law experts as well as UAE legal experts as part of their case.

The parent company of Le Meridien, Starwood Hotels, has been contacted for comment.

Who are we supposed to be rooting for? There has to be a “right answer”, and there has to be a correct course of action in all of this.

The reason why no one can come to anything that remotely approaches a definitive “right answer” to this problem is because no one has the

balls to acknowledge what the problem is. The problem is not a lack of democracy. As we are clearly seeing now, and as history repeatedly

confirms, the most evil political systems ever seen on earth have ascended to power with the support of more than 50% of the populace.

Therefore, democracy, or any form of representative government can not, in and of itself, be the “right answer”. The only way we are ever

going to arrive at the right answer is if we first ask and honestly answer the following question: What exactly is the problem?

The problem is islam.

Let me say that again so that there is absolutely no confusion. The problem is islam. So long as islam exists on earth, there will be no

peace, and there will be no freedom for those trapped inside of it. So long as islam exists, it will continue to stir up violence, aggression,

war, terrorism, instability, injustice, human slavery, hopelessness, suffering, despair and unnatural, needless death. Why? BECAUSE THAT

IS WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO. All of those qualities are intrinsic, constitutive qualities of islam. It is a satanic system that was

specifically created to be the Enemy’s response to Christ.

Mohammed did not hear a voice which he transcribed and called “the koran”. He simply sat down and wrote out a political manifesto –

claiming in fully calculated deceit that it was divine - that would enable him to raise an army. There was nothing miraculous about the origin

of islam in that sense. One of the obvious confirmations of this is the quality of the prose itself. If “allah” actually wrote the koran and

mohammed merely transcribed it, then allah is an idiot with exceptionally poor language and composition skills. The koran reads as if it

were written by a mentally deranged, barely literate Bedouin pedophile pirate con-artist . . . because it was. BUT, the system itself and the

spirit of inspiration behind it is completely satanic. Islam and the koran are completely satanic in the same sense that Marxism and “The

Communist Manifesto” are satanic, and in the same sense that Nazism and “Mein Kampf” are satanic. Oh, yes. The Serpent is subtle. Satan

does his best work when he is merely “whispering” subconscious inspiration to fallen men. Given that islam has persisted for 1400 years and

now enslaves a quarter of the human population, it is clearly satan’s masterpiece.

Given this reality, there are exactly two tactical options for the civilized world to choose from.

1. Completely isolate the muslim world. Let them have their caliphate but in a state of total quarantine.
This would involve establishing massive physical perimeter barriers on land and maintaining blockades at sea for all muslim territories.

Presumably this would stretch from Morocco to Indonesia, and would be massively expensive both to construct and secure. In addition to

this, all muslims would have to be expelled from all civilized nations and forcibly returned to muslim territory. In order for this to work, all

civilized nations on earth would have to unite in solidarity against islam and cooperate fully and completely in building, maintaining and

securing the borders.

Additionally, the quarantine would have to be TOTAL, meaning absolutely no interaction – including economic interaction. Therefore, before

this strategy could be undertaken, the civilized world would need to completely free itself of any dependence on oil pumped from muslim

territory.

Further, this strategy, while appearing to be the most “non-violent” option is actually the most violent, and would be a de facto death

sentence, both physically and spiritually, for every person trapped inside the caliphate. Assuming that the perimeter could be constructed

and then sealed, the muslim culture would necessarily begin to murder and consume itself. Remember, islam is violence, aggression, war,

terrorism, instability, injustice, human slavery, hopelessness, suffering, despair and unnatural, needless death. If muslims aren’t in a

position to kill “infidels”, they will simply turn on each other. This is already a proven fact, and has been for 1400 years. Sunni and Shia

muslims have been at each other’s throats all along, and still are today. Only in very rare instances, such as the wars of aggression begun by

muslims called “the Crusades”, wherein muslim unity was needed to fight the “infidels”, has there been any real muslim unity. Because

islam has no central authority or magesterium, unlike Christianity which was specifically established by Christ Himself with a divinely

protected structure of authority and infallible teaching charism, islam allows for every single self-ordained “imam” to be his own “pope”

who can then alter, decide and concoct “doctrine”, and to also issue “fatwas” against any competing cleric, or entire groups of people.

Islam has been specifically designed to discourage unity, thus always fomenting and encouraging conflicts and wars within the caliphate

itself.

Next, islam is incapable of supporting a vibrant economy. Islam teaches that all human endeavors and productivity are contrary to the will of

allah. Any person who spends any time or effort doing anything except studying the koran and praying to allah is an infidel. Additionally,

islam teaches that the only way that a person can be GUARANTEED of “salvation” or “paradise” is to die in jihad. Therefore, muslims will

ALWAYS be in a state of war against someone, including other muslims, because if there were total peace, there would be no means to

achieve “salvation” according to muslim teaching.

Finally, the quarantine option would be a failure in charity on the part of Christendom. By quarantining these people, we would be giving up

on them, which is the opposite of charity, or love. Quarantined muslims would have absolutely no chance or hope of hearing the Gospel, and

would have no hope of ever escaping the cult of islam. While this option might serve to help keep our hands physically clean, we would have

the spiritual stain of our failure in charity to answer for upon our judgement

This brings us to option #2, which is actually the more viable and certainly the more loving and charitable option.
2. Fight a Final Crusade and exterminate islam from the face of the earth once and for all.

Yep. I said it, and I mean it. This option isn’t really an “option” at all, because this is where we are heading whether we like it or not. There

is going to be a massive, final war between islam and the civilized world at some point. The only real question is, how long are we going to

stall it off? A week? A month? A year? A decade? A century? Some would argue that the Final Crusade actually began on 9/11, and that we

have been fighting minor skirmishes ever since. Perhaps. If that is the case, the civilized world clearly does not understand that it is in a

fight for its very survival. There isn’t room enough in this world for both human civilization AND islam. One side is going to be destroyed by

the other. If islam wins, then humanity will be dead as well, because it will be just a matter of time before islam consumes itself, as

outlined above. If civilization wins, humanity will continue, knowledge and technology will increase, there will be joy and laughter and

goodness, and human beings will be free to seek and find God. In this way, islam is exactly like cancer. Either a person destroys the cancer

within them and survives, or the cancer wins and both the person AND the cancer die. Given that the civilized world still doesn’t understand

what is going on, I don’t think it is fair to say that the Final Crusade has begun. It will begin when we comprehend that it is us or them – kill

or be killed. Let’s do a quick exercise in linguistics which will prove that extermination of the islamic political system is the only real,

practical and charitable option that we have.

Consider the following statement:

The Nazi Party, its philosophy and goal set was evil and had to be stopped. There is no room for the Nazi philosophy in a civilized world, and

thus the only acceptable outcome of World War II was the total extermination of the Nazi Party. While the main objective of fighting World

War II was to repel and then exterminate the Nazi scourge from overrun nations, the secondary objective was also to liberate the German

people themselves from the bonds of the totalitarian Nazi regime.

Now, let’s look at the same statement, but replace “Nazi” with “muslim”:
Islam, its philosophy and goal set is evil and has to be stopped. There is no room for the muslim philosophy in a civilized world, and thus the

only acceptable outcome of the Final Crusade is the total extermination of islam. While the main objective of fighting the Final Crusade is

to repel and then exterminate the muslim scourge from overrun nations, the secondary objective is also to liberate the currently-muslim

people themselves from the bonds of the totalitarian muslim caliphate.

   

 

The two statements are pluperfect analogues because Nazism and islam are pluperfect analogues. Both are TOTALITARIAN POLITICAL

SYSTEMS. The only tactical difference is that mohammed used the beard of religion and claimed divine inspiration right out of the gate.

This has allowed islam to use civilization’s own freedom of religious conscience principle against it. Hitler was indeed trying to slowly create

a new pagan religion, with the German/Aryan nation cast as “the father”, Hitler himself cast as “the son” and the “messiah”, and the Nazi

Party as “the holy spirit”, but was never far enough along in that process to be able to wield the accusation of “intolerance”. To illustrate

this point, let’s reverse our linguistic example:

Islam is a religion and thus is equal to all other religions. Islam is protected under the First Amendment, and all civilized people must fight

to defend a person’s right to practice islam completely unencumbered. Islam seeks only peace through the voluntary application of Sharia

law. Just because some muslims have used violence as a way of advancing their cause does not mean that all muslims are violent. Violence

is a perversion of true Islamic philosophy. Most muslims are peace-loving, and we should support and embrace them into our culture.

Have I made my point?
(Aside: How long do you think it will take some leftist to pull that last paragraph, put my name over it as the author, and then claim that

they have proof that I am a Nazi? That’s how these sad, pathetic people roll. It WILL happen. It’s just a matter of how long it takes them to

do it. C’est la vie.)

We don’t flinch at the reality of Nazism, nor at the necessity to exterminate it from the face of the earth, because we accurately call it what

it is: a totalitarian political system. But because we have been brainwashed and conditioned by the left to self-loathe our own

Judeo-Christian culture, reject critical thinking, and embrace islam as a constitutionally-protected religion, we refuse to acknowledge the

plain, simple fact there will be no peace unless and until islam is exterminated from the face of the earth. We keep telling ourselves that

“democracy” is the answer and that if we just facilitate voting in muslim countries, everything will be fine, and the entire world will be

enveloped in peace, rainbows, gumdrops and unicorn farts. Because all “religions” are good and equal, and anyone who says different is a

bigot and an intolerant hater.

There is going to be a war. A big one. Probably the biggest ever. But it has to be fought, because the stakes are no less than the fate of the

entire human race. The problem is islam. There is no such thing as a "healthy muslim society" because islam is a cancer upon human

civilization. The solution is nothing less than the complete extermination of the muslim political system in order to save the people inside of

it. If you have a cancerous tumor, you cut it out - you don't try to fix the person while simultaneously protecting the tumor. We have done

this before. We did this just seventy short years ago. We CAN do it again. All we need is the courage to face the truth, and the fortitude to

do what we know we must.

Those who denounce critics of Islam should allow that, like all global faiths, Islam has its detractors and a religion will be judged on what its followers say and do.

There is a debate going on about Islam. The question being asked is: Does Islam itself - not just poverty or social exclusion - provide ideological fuel for extremism and violence?

It is all too tempting to promote one-dimensional explanations of religious violence. Monash University doctoral candidate Rachel Woodlock said on this page on Wednesday that social exclusion was the root of Islamic radicalism.

On one hand, there are those who, like Woodlock, demand that critics of Islam be stigmatised as ignorant, right-wing racists. On the other hand, Islam's problems cannot be simplistically reduced to social or economic factors.

Violence in the name of Islam is well-attested in nations in which Muslims are dominant, and it is non-Muslim minorities that suffer the exclusion. It does not do to argue that religion has no relevance to such events.

In Muslim-majority Pakistan on December 3, Pakistani imam Maulana Yousuf Qureshi, in his Friday sermon, offered a $6000 bounty to anyone who would murder Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who has also been accused of ''blaspheming Allah''. Pakistani minister for minorities Shahbaz Bhatti and Punjab governor Salman Taseer were subsequently assassinated because of their opposition to Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

These laws are supported by Pakistan's Islamic elites. The killer of Salman Taseer, Mumtaz Qadri, was praised by religious leaders from mainstream schools of Pakistani Islam, and when he was being led to court on January 6, 400 Muslim lawyers showered him with rose petals, offering him their legal services free of charge.

There has also been a rush of recent assaults on Copts and their places of worship in Egypt, sparked by a wild tirade by a leading Egyptian cleric.

Closer to Australia, there have been well-publicised attacks on Ahmadiyah Muslims in Indonesia, including brutal murders. These were undoubtedly influenced by a theological belief that Ahmadiyah adherents are apostates from true Islam. Although prominent Indonesian leaders were quick to express abhorrence for the attacks, many Indonesian Muslims have called for Ahmadiyahs to be outlawed.

These events demonstrate the ugly effects of stigmatising minorities, and it would be deplorable to simple-mindedly extrapolate the religious views of Pakistani, Egyptian or Indonesian Muslims and apply them to Australia.

However, it is irrational to insist that any and everyone who seeks to expose the religious roots of such hatred must themselves be decried as haters.

All over the world, every religious belief is disliked by someone or other. Christianity has its prominent detractors, too, from Bertrand Russell to Richard Dawkins. A Google search for ''Evils of Christianity'' yields tens of thousands of hits.

Australians can be thankful for a culture of tolerance, which has been carefully nurtured over decades. Tolerance is strengthened when people are able to debate ideological issues freely - especially those which impact profoundly on human rights - without being shouted down.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Nettle, in his findings on the case of the Islamic Council of Victoria v Catch the Fire, pointed out that criticism - or even hatred - of a religion should not be conflated with the hatred of people who hold those beliefs. It is one thing to promote tolerance, quite another to mandate it.

Perhaps the most powerful evidence against Woodlock's thesis - that it is exclusion, and not religion, that drives some Muslims to terrorism - is the fact that across the globe the most diverse religious minorities do not resort to violence, even when persecuted.

There are no Falun Gong terrorists in China, despite all the bitter persecution. The same can be said for persecuted Christians in many nations.

Even in Australia, many ethnic and religious groups have been subjected to disadvantage and exclusion, but none have produced the level of terrorist convictions of our own home-grown Islamic radicals.

It is a bitter pill for the vast majority of Australian Muslims to swallow that their faith has been linked, globally and locally, to religious violence.

Unfortunately, this link cannot be dismissed as the product of media prejudice or ''Islamophobic'' propaganda. It is in part an issue of some Muslims behaving very badly, and their often strident claim is that they do this in the name of religion.

Taking such claims seriously and debating them publicly must not be equated with stigmatising law-abiding and peaceable Australian Muslims.

A RADICAL Muslim preacher - who has likened Jews to pigs, denounced Christians and urged children to die for their

religion - is teaching Islam to young followers in Sydney after years in exile in the Middle East.

Despite Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd previously telling Sheik Feiz Mohammed never to return to Australia, the firebrand

is delivering sermons at the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah centre in Auburn.

NSW police told The Sunday Telegraph they were monitoring Sheik Feiz, who has a reputation worldwide as an

inflammatory preacher.

"We maintain an ongoing relationship with him and other members of the local community as part of our community

engagement program," a police spokesman said.

"NSW Police Force will only take an interest in teachings by members of the community if they promote breaking the

law."

The Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah centre, of which he is the full-time Amir, is on Auburn Rd behind the Bakhiri Book Store,

which sells religious texts and other artefacts.

The Sydney-born cleric and former champion boxer created a furore in 2007 when his Death Series DVDs were uncovered

by the The Daily Telegraph.

In them he likened Jews to "pigs" and urged Muslim children to become martyrs.

"Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid [holy warrior].

Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom," the Sheik said in one taped sermon.

In another lecture, he said "every single non-Jew is a slave created to serve the Jew", adding that "their time will come

like every other evil person's time will come".
The comments provoked outrage with then opposition foreign spokesman Mr Rudd, who said: "I would say this to Sheik

Mohammed: Do not return to Australia, you are not welcome here."

At the time Sheik Feiz, who preaches with a strong Australian accent, was living in Lebanon and running by proxy the

Global Islamic Youth Centre in Liverpool, which was raided by the AFP as part of its investigation into him.

Mr Rudd yesterday said of his return: "If he was found to have contravened laws, he would be subject to appropriate law

enforcement."

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Sheik Feiz has been accused of being linked to a political sabotage campaign on

the streets of Auburn.

Candidate Jamal Daoud, who is standing in the state election, complained to authorities that campaign posters had been

stripped from shop windows by the Sheik's followers. "They told everybody that democracy is not permitted," Mr Daoud

said.

A spokesman for the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah Association of Australia said his sermons would be religious teachings

that would promote peace "as all religions do".

Sheik Mohammed did not return calls, however Samil Dandan, the president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, said

Sheik Feiz was a changed man and should not be judged on his past.

WHEN you think about it, Sheik Hilaly has done us a favour. For one thing, his recently translated sermon, declaring

women as Satan's agents who incite rape with immodest dress, has at last provoked Australia's moderate Muslims to find

a strong voice, as they lined up last week to condemn the mufti.

"His comments imply we've got no sense of right and wrong," said Mustapha Kara-Ali, the youth representative on the

Prime Minister's Muslim community reference group.

As well, by revealing so unequivocally his primitive views of women, Hilaly destroyed the claims by cultural relativists

that Sydney's series of gang rapes by Muslim men had nothing to do with culture or religion.

"If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street ... without a cover and the cats eat it, is it the fault of the cat or

the uncovered meat?" he said in the sermon to 500 people last month at Lakemba mosque. "The uncovered meat is the

problem. If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won't get it ...

if the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she's wearing the veil and if she shows modesty, disasters don't

happen."

Then in a clear reference to the gang rape trial of Bilal Skaf, he said: "A woman possesses the weapon of seduction. It is

she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect

us ... then it's a look, then a smile, then a conversation ... then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then Long Bay

jail. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years."

The only incitement committed by 18-year-old Ms C, who was raped 25 times by up to 14 men including Skaf in 2000, was

being Australian. Sitting on a train, dressed for a job interview in her best suit, and reading The Great Gatsby, she was a

slut, an "Aussie pig" as they called her later, while boasting: "I'm going to f--- you Leb style."

"I looked in his eyes. I had never seen such indifference," she said.

Hilaly was simply echoing what the father of four Pakistani-born gang-rapists from Ashfield once said of the young

victims: "What do they expect to happen to them? Girls from Pakistan don't go out at night."

Hilaly's younger, Australian-born counterparts have been saying the same thing for years.

"A victim of rape every minute somewhere in the world," Sheik Feiz Mohammad told 1000 people at Bankstown Town Hall

last year. "Why? No one to blame but herself. She displayed her beauty to the entire world ... strapless, backless,

sleeveless, nothing but satanic skirts, slit skirts, translucent blouses."

Egyptian-born Hilaly may have been escalating his rhetoric to shore up support as extremist groups such as the Islamic

Youth Movement encroach on his territory.

It is worth remembering that terrorism experts have regarded Hilaly as a moderating influence, and Singapore-based

Rohan Gunaratna described him as "a mild man, compared to others".

Reports yesterday that Hilaly's planned deportation in 1986 was stopped by none other than the former member for

Bankstown, Paul Keating, and that a public servant lost his job for trying to stand up to the political interference, are

certainly frustrating.

But Hilaly, who claimed in a 2004 sermon in Lebanon, "I have four wives and plenty of children", is an Australian citizen

now. Deportation is not an option.

Moreover, in the rush to banish the mufti, people should realise that whoever replaces him might be worse, as a new

generation of radical firebrands emerges who have long fought Hilaly for control of the influential mosque.

Sometimes pragmatism favours the devil you know.

'Jihad' sheik to face new probe

THE firebrand cleric who went overseas just days before some of his cohorts were rounded up in the nation's biggest

counter-terrorism raid is the subject of a new police investigation, after a call for children to join jihad as holy warriors

appeared in a DVD being sold in Australia.

Sydney-born Sheik Feiz Mohamed's radical sermons - available on the internet and on DVDs and videos - have become

popular with Muslims around the world.

In one video, running on the hugely popular website YouTube, he admonishes his followers in English for not "sacrificing a

drop of blood" as martyrs.

Australian Federal Police said yesterday they had begun inquiries into Sheik Feiz's DVD encouraging jihad, which is

believed to be unclassified in Australia and illegal to sell.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma accused the cleric yesterday of inciting terrorism.

"This DVD goes a lot further than vilification," he said. "The sort of incitement that the DVD encourages is incitement to

acts of violence and acts of terror."

Sheik Feiz, a member of Sunni Islam's fundamentalist Wahhabi sect, left Australia for Lebanon in late 2004, just days

before federal and state police and ASIO conducted raids in Sydney and Melbourne, arresting 23 people on terror-related

charges.

The cleric calls two of the accused terrorists close friends and knew all of the Sydney men arrested. He has links to

almost every notable member of Australia's Islamic community and continues to direct his Global Islamic Youth Centre -

the nerve centre of Islamic youth in Sydney, setting the tone for 4000 youths, their families and fraternities.

Along with Sheik Mohammed Omran in Melbourne and Sydney's Sheik Abdul Salem Mohammed Zoud, he is considered one

of Australia's leading radical clerics. Unlike Sheik Omran and Sheik Zoud, Sheik Feiz preaches in English with a strong

Australian accent rather than Arabic.

In the video running on YouTube, which could not be dated, he criticises Muslims in Australia for not sacrificing their

blood as martyrs and for putting lifestyle ahead of action in response to massacres of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq and

Palestine.

"In our times it is the fear of death, the fear of sacrificing your finger, your toe, a drop of blood that is more honourable

than anything else," he says.

"Why? Because martyrdom to us is, is not as appealing to us, as it was to those ancestors, the great warriors ... who

lived around the best creature that walked the earth, Mohammed."

The YouTube video follows revelations in a British documentary that Sheik Feiz's collection of DVDs - called the Death

Series - were being sold by children in the car park of a mosque in the British city of Birmingham.

In that and another series called Signs of the Hour, made about four years ago, Sheik Feiz labelled Jews "pigs" and

exhorted children to jihad.

"We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam," he says. "Teach them this: there is nothing more

beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid. Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of

martyrdom."

In an exclusive interview with The Australian, Sheik Feiz said that every one of those remarks could be put in context.

"The jihad I speak of is not one of violence," he said. "It is one of personal struggle against things like mischievousness,

temptation and personal harm. I have never advocated violence against Australians or anyone embracing the Australian

way of life. I have never called for people to be harmed. If anyone fights you for what you are, you defend yourself.

"I don't believe in suicide bombing, I don't believe in violence against others. We don't invite that, we don't encourage

that. We denounce that. This is not Islamic law and it is not moral."

He said he regretted the remark about Jews being pigs and said this was made in the days following the images of a

young Palestinian, Mohammed al-Dura, being pinned down with his father in crossfire in Gaza in 2002. The boy was killed

and the images became an enduring propaganda tool for the Palestinians during the intifada years.

"That remark was made in the heat of the moment and I regret it," Sheik Feiz said. "It was not something I should have

said and is not something I believe."

B'nai B'rith Anti-defamation Commission chairman Michael Lipshutz said the Muslim community as a whole had to publicly

distance itself from anti-Semitic individuals and organisations.

However, Muslim youth representative Fadi Rahman said the reaction to the four-year-old video that authorities have

been aware of for nearly as long was an example of prejudice against the Muslim community.

"This is what tells us we will never fit in no matter what we do," he said. "It's telling the kids they're always going to be

marginalised."

Acting Attorney-General Kevin Andrews said the matter was being investigated by the relevant authorities.

"It's offensive to the Australian people, it's reprehensible, it's particularly outrageous that certain groups in Australia,

such as the Jewish community, have been highlighted in these comments and we condemn the comments," he said.

Experts believe the DVD material - recorded in 2004 - would escape federal sedition laws, which were passed in 2005 as

part of the federal Government's terrorism legislation, but may fall foul of other laws.

University of NSW law lecturer Andrew Lynch said NSW racial vilification legislation might apply to Sheik Feiz's

description of Jews as pigs, and the videos could be in breach of the federal criminal code, which prohibits incitement to

commit an offence.

While the Mufti of Australia, Taj Din al-Hilali, sparked national outrage by comparing scantily clad women to uncovered

meat, Sheik Feiz once told a meeting at Bankstown, in Sydney's southwest Muslim heartland, that indecently dressed

women were setting themselves up for rape.
