AT least 11 had done time behind bars, four were on bail, most were bikies and all of them were known to police.

The victims of the city's deadly gun wars were figures used to looking over their shoulders: one had been inside over a double murder, another two had been suspects in homicides and one had caused a death by dangerous driving in a car chase reaching 150km/h.

But they left behind grieving wives, girlfriends and families, children who will grow up without a father.

Matthew Hedges, 25, who was shot through a window at his Chester Hill home on December 31 last year not long after his release from jail was a father of four.

Two of his children, aged two and four, were in the house when he was murdered.

"It makes absolutely no difference to a police investigation what the background or the involvement of any victim is," Detective Chief Superintendent Mal Lanyon, head of the organised crime directorate, said yesterday. "No family should have to go through what the family of anyone murdered has to go through."

With legal gun ownership in Australia back at pre-Port Arthur massacre levels, police believe they are making headway against illegal firearms. In the 2012-2013 financial year, police seized 9506 illegal firearms, 729 of them handguns, the type of guns commonly used in the slayings.

Supt Lanyon is also head of Operation Apollo, targeting gun crime, and said police still faced a wall of silence as they investigated the underworld slayings. "We don't receive a lot of information or support from the type of witnesses we would hope to get information from," he said.

While there have been a number of arrests over the slayings, he appealed for the families of these men to speak up about what they know.

"That is why we also work so hard to take illegal firearms off the street because while there are illegal firearms in the community there is the potential for those who wish to engage in conflict to settle that conflict with those firearms," Supt Lanyon said.

The gun wars have claimed 18 men since the O'Farrell government took office, in shootings mostly blamed on drugs and revenge.

Some were linked to an escalating turf war between the Hells Angels and Comanchero bikie gangs, others were members of the Brothers For Life street gang, founded by Australia's highest-security prisoner and murderer Basam Hamzy.

Lone Wolf bikie Neal Todorovski, 37, shot through the back during a row outside his Sans Souci unit on January 4 last year, was farewelled in a $42,000 gold-plated coffin paid for in cash by his bikie mates.

Former Comanchero Darko Janceski, 32, who had left the gang on bad terms a year before his death in April last year, had been linked by police to the investigation of two suspected murders. His crimes included dangerous driving causing death and malicious wounding of a man who lost an ear.

His house had been burnt down and for months before he was shot dead in Berkeley, Janceski had been in fear for his life. He was on bail for possessing drugs and stealing cars from his employer.

Gemahl Maika, 38, a father of two, was due to give evidence in a trial involving a multi-million-dollar cocaine syndicate when he was gunned down in April 2011.

Detectives found a bundle of $50 notes the size of a house brick and other cash totalling more than $31,000 in the car of Hussein Khanafer, 31, not long before he was shot dead in February at Blackett.

Police believe a single Middle Eastern crime syndicate is behind five killings: that of Roy Yaghi, 33, a drugs cook for the Hells Angels; Jamie Grover, 27; Comanchero bikie Faalau Pisu, 23, at a wedding; Ali Eid, 38, and his relative Bachir Arja, 28.

Woman severely injured in shooting in Auburn

A WOMAN was shot in the suffered gunshot wounds to her eg - seven months after her teenage son almost died in a shooting at the same address in Auburn.

Police are also investigating whether the shooting of the woman in Auburn Rd at 2.40pm Saturday was linked to a drive-by attack 20 minutes later in nearby Provincial St.

A 43-year-old woman was admitted to Auburn Hospital in a stable condition following the incident in Auburn Rd, Auburn.

So what do you do you do when someone you know or a relative has been SHOT ?

Attack the Police of course, hey that will fix everything!!!! the shooter/s will immediately come forward and surrender to Police, the victims injuries will be immediately healed, and before you know it it will be like nothing ever happened .. Her son, 16, had undergone life-saving surgery after he was shot in the stomach last August.

Police said shots were fired from a moving vehicle at a house on Provincial Street in the same suburb at 3pm Saturday. No one was injured.

Police established crime scenes at both addresses.

An officer at Flemington local area command, who asked not to be named, said it was unclear whether the two incidents were connected but police had received different descriptions for the cars involved in each shooting.

"We've got no way of knowing (if they are linked) at this moment,'' the officer said.

"There were two different vehicles described. Both black cars. One is described as something and one is described as something else.''

Plane zapped with laser near Sydney Airport

A Jetstar plane descending towards Sydney Airport has been zapped with a laser, police say.

A green-coloured laser was pointed at the aircraft, apparently from Canterbury in Sydney's west, police said.

The incident happened about 7.15pm yesterday, police said.

Police sent vehicles to the area and inquiries are continuing.

A police spokesman was unable to say where the plane had travelled from or how many passengers were on board.

Pointing lasers at an aircraft is illegal and dangerous, with Detective Inspector Michael O'Rourke from Ashfield Local Area

Command saying such action can endanger lives.

 

These Laser attacks upon aircraft are numerous, this is the first case, to my knowledge, that there has actually been an arrest leading to a trial.

Many, many, commercial jet liners and light aircraft are targeted by Lasers emanating from Sydney’s Occupied Territories as they attempt landing and departure from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport.

The consequences of these bastards actions are obvious to anyone with half a brain,however we are talking about residents of Sydney’s Occupied Territories,Labor’s Multicultural Utopia.

Laser pointer put hundreds in danger, court hears

EVERY passenger on board a Virgin Blue flight could have been killed when a teenager shone a laser into the cockpit, a court heard yesterday.

Police allege Abdul Eid, 18, of Auburn, "endangered the lives" of 134 passengers on a flight to Sydney from Melbourne on Sunday night about 7.30pm.

Less than two hours later, the teenager allegedly blinded crew on a police helicopter that was patrolling in the Auburn area following reports of the earlier incident.

The teenager was located shortly after and charged with illegal use of the laser pointer.

A 16-year-old from Berala, who cannot be named, was also charged with the same offences but released on strict conditional bail.

The incident follows a spate of similar happenings, including one at Bexley just two weeks ago.

A green laser light was directed into the cockpit of a police helicopter. No one was caught and the device was found later in a carpark by police.

In Parramatta Bail Court, Eid was labelled a threat to the general public by the prosecution.

"This offence had the potential to endanger lives. The protection of the community is paramount," the police prosecutor said.

Eid's lawyer said there were a number of people involved in the incident and there was no way to prove it was her client.

But the prosecutor told the court the police helicopter had recorded vision of Eid using the device.

The court registrar branded Eid a "serious risk to the community" before refusing bail.

Eid will reappear in Burwood Local Court via audio visual link tomorrow.

A spokeswoman for Virgin Blue last night confirmed the flight crew had reported the incident and labelled the act as "sheer stupidity".

Angry Anderson - other cultures have introduced weapons

ROCK'N'ROLL bad boy Gary Angry Anderson believes life experience has taught him "Aussies use their fists" when they fight and that "weapons were introduced by other cultures".

The former Rose Tattoo frontman's comments before a Parliamentary inquiry in Canberra yesterday have experts describing his views as "pure fantasy" and ignoring "the realities of life".

Anderson, 63, was adamant he's not racist and said politically correct bureaucrats were getting in the way of progress when it comes to preventing youth violence.

“We Can’t be Beaten”

"The racial thing, the cultural thing needs to be addressed because it's not going to go away," he told a Federal Parliamentary Committee into the impact of violence on youth.

"You never kick a bloke when he's down . . . you don't gang up on a bloke. These things are Australian and we shouldn't shy away from being Australian."

The father of four said he had taught his sons these principles and said "other cultures" had introduced weapons, including the Lebanese, Indochinese and Pacific Islanders.

"We have to acknowledge that they have a different view about how they deal with each other," he said.

"It's not untoward for them to turn up to a fight with a hatchet."

Anti-Discrimination Board president

Stepan Kerkyasharian said the entertainer's views were unrealistic.

"To suggest that if people of a particular kind of culture weren't here a particular kind of violence wouldn't occur is pure fantasy," Mr Kerkyasharian said.

"To suggest a type of violence didn't exist before is purely ignoring the realities of life."

Australian Race Discrimination commissioner Graham Innes agreed with Anderson that "some violence in Australia has a racial aspect" but said it had been going on since the goldfields in the 19th century.

"We need a zero-tolerance policy from government to say that multicultural violence is not tolerated," Mr Innes said.

"Violence amongst racial groups is not new - the white settlers were violent towards Aboriginal people."

Outside Parliament, Anderson, who has worked with numerous youth charities, said he grew up in '80s Australia when "Aussie kids didn't use weapons".

"We've got to tell Lebanese kids and Indochinese kids that it might be all right where you come from but it's not all right here," he said.

"To suggest that if people of a particular kind of culture weren't here a particular kind of violence wouldn't occur is pure fantasy," Mr Kerkyasharian said.

The only fantasy here Mr Kerkyasharian, is the belief in Multiculturalism, a belief in a social structure where the host culture is legally cannabalised by the inferior cultures, indeed proven failed culrtures of colonialist who’s own culture was so good they RAN AWAY from it.

These colonialists and cultural assassins from many and varied failed cultures, are not happy with been given sanctuary in Australia, no, not at all, they and the likes of Mr Kerkyasharian  immediately start eating away at Australia and it’s institutions, demanding they be given every right, and indeed legal sanction, to impose upon Australia the very same culture,social structures and beliefs that they say made their own countries un liveable for them and their families.

THE head of one of Sydney's most powerful drug dealing crime syndicates was shot dead in a drive-by shooting at a busy intersection yesterday, sparking police fears the brazen killing in front of pedestrians would reignite a gang war.

As police called for calm among members of Sydney's Middle Eastern community last night the dead man was named as Abdul Qadier Darwiche, 37, of Condell Park, whose younger brother Adnan "Eddie" Darwiche, of Lakemba, is serving life for double murder.

Police said Darwiche died in a hail of at least six gunshots fired into his moving vehicle by gunmen in a silver four-wheel-drive as he was driving along Miller Road, Bass Hill, near the intersection of Liverpool Road, at 3.45pm.

Within seconds his vehicle careered off the road and into a park, crashing into a gum tree with Darwiche dead behind the wheel. Police would not say if a weapon was found inside his car, a black Triton utility, but confirmed the attack followed an argument with a group of men in a nearby street.

In September 2007 police publicly identified Abdul Darwiche as the head of a "criminal syndicate" when Detective Inspector Michael Ryan told the Administrative Decisions Tribunal that Darwiche's family controlled drug networks in the city's south-west.

Inspector Ryan named the head of the family syndicate as Abdul Darwiche, who in 2006 was found not guilty of the attempted murder of Farouk "Frank" Razzak, alleged to have headed a rival clan.

It was the first time police publicly named someone as the head of a family-based Middle Eastern crime syndicate. Abdul Darwiche strongly denied the allegations at the time, saying the police claims were based on unfounded rumour and speculation, and said police had a personal vendetta against him.

The allegations, in which police also alleged Abdul Darwiche carried a gun down the back of his pants, came to light when he appealed to the Administrative Decisions Tribunal after the Tow Truck Authority refused his application for a tow truck licence on the grounds that he was not of good character.

Inspector Ryan told the tribunal a former associate of Abdul Darwiche had informed police that he sold cannabis and amphetamines for him "from 1996 onwards".

Adnan Darwiche was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2006 for a double murder committed with three others during a bloody inter-family drug feud in Sydney's south-west that was investigated by the forerunner to the Middle Eastern Crime Squad, Task Force Gain.

The taskforce was set up in 2003 to end a bloody series of drive-by shootings involving the Darwiche and Razzak families.

Adnan Darwiche is serving natural life jail terms in the Supermax high security jail in Goulburn for murdering Ziad Razzak and young mother Mervat Nemra.

Ms Nemra was an innocent bystander whose home Ziad Razzak was using as a safe house while being hunted by rival drug dealers.

Both were killed when Adnan Darwiche and three others fired more than 100 bullets from Russian military AK-47 assault rifles and an M1 machine-gun into the Greenacre house where the two were sleeping.

Adnan Darwiche's Supreme Court trial in 2006 was told that that the dispute between him and another relative Bilal Razzak erupted in 2001 over drug-dealing boundaries and a broken marriage between Darwiche's sister, Khadige, and Ali Abdul-Razzak.

In August, 2003 Ali Abdul-Razzak was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen as he walked from prayers at the Lakemba Mosque. His killers have not been found.

Police who rushed to the scene of yesterday's shooting were quick to say that the shooting had not stemmed from road rage, saying Abdul Darwiche appeared to have been deliberately targeted by a gunman in a silver coloured Honda CRV four-wheel-drive vehicle. Detectives from the Middle Eastern Crime Squad joined Homicide investigators and Bankstown police in the investigation last night.

The shooting was seen by a number of customers, staff and children in a small shopping centre and service station bordering the intersection. They were in the nearby kebab shop, Subway and chemist shop and United service station.

Police cordoned off the park where the dead man's vehicle came to a halt and placed a tarpaulin over the vehicle to protect clues for crime scene investigators as the body lay slumped inside.
