Sydney's Occupied Territories: NSW Police smash organised Assyrian crime gang following raids in Sydney's Occupied Territories

Police smash organised Assyrian crime gang DLSTHR with series of raids across Sydney

Simon Black
The Daily Telegraph
September 23,2013

DRUGS, cash, replica guns a pill-press and a luxury Lotus sports car have been seized in raids aimed at "destroying" an organised crime gang believed to be behind more than a dozen public shootings.

More than 341 police executed 22 raids in a blitz on the Assyrian crime gang DLASTHR this morning.

The massive police operation involved local and state police along with the NSW Crime Commission and saw 18 simultaneous raids and saw officers arrest 13 men and seize 8kg of cannabis, $25,000 in cash, a pill-press, four jetskis, a boat, and an expensive luxury Lotus Sprite sports car.

The DLASTHR originated as an offshoot of the Assyrian Kings - the crime group involved in the brutal murder of off-duty police officer David Carty in 1997 - partially scalping him and slicing off his nose and ear in a frenzied attack only blocks from Fairfield police station.

"This group is a violent, organised gang which has been involved in public-place shootings, vicious assaults, drug dealing and extortion," NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said. "The NSW police force will not rest until we have put every single one of them behind bars."

The raids are the product of an 18-month joint investigation by Strike Force Evesson, involving investigators from the Fairfield Local Area Command and the NSW Crime Commission.

Today's operation began at 6am, when dozens of specialist police, two "Bearcat" armoured vehicles and investigators from Fairfield Local Area Command stormed a semirural property at Rossmore.

Next-door neighbour Linda said she was woken up by a police siren and looked outside to see the raid in full swing.

"We heard a bang and looked outside to see these two big armoured hummer-things with guys hanging off them holding guns," she said. "There was an alarm going and someone on a megaphone saying 'this is a police raid'."

"There were dogs, guns, and police everywhere. It's a pretty scary thing."

Another local resident, who requested not to be named, said there were frequently "strange cars" going in and out of the property.

"You don't want to get involved," she said. "It's usually very quiet around here but you see lots of random people and cars in that place."

At the scene detectives were quizzing a number of men on the front porch of the residential home on Bellfield Ave while other officers scoured the property behind.

Plainclothes police left the property with a number of brown paper evidence bags while four carloads of officers search the property's nearly two dozen greenhouses.

Specialist police divers scoured a nearby dam for evidence and four jetskis and a boat were confiscated.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the property and charged with a range of offenses relating to drug supply and directing the activities of a criminal group.

Another 12 men were arrested and were charged with a range of offences including grievous bodily harm, drug supply and participate in a criminal group.

Despite being charged with offences relating to recruiting and directing a criminal group it is unclear if the man arrested at Rossmore was the acting leader of the gang with Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli stating the group didn't have a "clear leader" and had activities which were "a little bit more than just domestic".

In total, 22 search warrants were executed across Sydney's southwest at properties in Fairfield, Bonnyrigg, Horningsea Park, Hinchinbrook, Hoxton Park, Campbelltown, Wetherill Park, Liverpool, Warwick Farm, Cartwright, Smithfield, Greenfield Park, Bossley Park, Canley Vale and Rossmore.

The sites raided included a number of residential properties as well as two car dealerships and a real-estate office, the last ironically based directly opposite a police centre in Liverpool.

Commr Scipione, said the arrests were aimed at "destroying" the gang.

"We are confident today's arrests will seriously disrupt the business dealings of this particular syndicate," he said. "Nevertheless, our work is not yet done and we need the assistance of the local community to help us continue investigations into the rest of the gang."

"I can assure you that whenever we're here - they are in strife. We will be going after them."

Today's 13 arrests take the total number of people arrested by Strike Force Evesson to 33.

Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said NSW police expected to make more arrests with the group also believed to be responsible for a number of shootings in the area.

"We want to put this whole syndicate out of business," he said. "As well as allegedly being involved in drug supply, extortion and a number of assaults, we believe the DLASTHR has been involved in more than a dozen public place shootings in Sydney over the last two years."

Strike Force Evesson, which is supported by the NSW Crime Commission's Operation Ramsgate, will continue over the coming months.

Muslim Gang Rapist Mohammed Sanoussi parole stalled over Brothers 4 Life gang links

Skaf gang rape member's bid for freedom stalled over possible criminal gang association
Staff Writers

The Daily Telegraph
August 22 2013.

A SKAF gang rapist's fourth bid for freedom has stalled after a hearing before the NSW State Parole Authority was told he had possibly been associating with members of a criminal gang.

Mohammed Sanoussi has already served 13 years of a 16-year sentence for his role in the August 2000 gang rapes of young girls.

The attacks, involving 14 men, happened at various locations in Sydney.

Sanoussi, who became eligible for parole in 2010, made his fourth application today, but it was adjourned after information was presented to the board that he had been seen meeting with members of the Brothers 4 Life gang.

A police report delivered to Corrective Services late on Tuesday alleges that members of the notorious Brothers 4 Life street gang have been meeting at the Sanoussi family home.

It was at this southwest Sydney property that Sanoussi had been staying while on weekend leave from jail in recent months, and where he was expected to reside if released on parole.

Counsel for the corrective services commissioner Geoff Denman told the parole hearing at Parramatta Justice Precinct on Thursday that releasing Sanoussi into the family home posed an "unacceptable danger".

"Mr Sanoussi has a background of being prone to the pressure of his peers, including his brothers," he said.

"If the information in the police report is correct, then that raises great concerns about whether he might be falling into that company again."

The hearing was adjourned until September 5.

More "Harmony Days" Down Under : Australian Mourners told to leave Muslims funeral "not welcome"

Non-Muslims 'not welcome' at mosque funeral for former policeman

"All of his friends were not Muslim, so they had to leave - it was a big shock. It upset a lot of people."

MOURNERS were told they were "not welcome" by a cleric at a former policeman's funeral because they were non-Muslims.

The family of Erdinc Ozen, a former police officer and member of the navy reserves, are demanding an apology following the incident at Sydney's Auburn Gallipoli Mosque last month.

Mr Ozen, a Turkish-born Australian who served as a policeman until 2011, died from a brain aneurysm last month.

His brother Tunc said a number of senior police and friends from his fishing club at the Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL left the service after the unexpected directive from acting president Dr Abdurrahman Asaroglu. Others attending included an 87-year-old World War II veteran and former NSW premier Nathan Rees.

"He told everyone it's a Muslim prayer service, all women and non-Muslims were not welcome and they had to leave the mosque area," Tunc Ozen said.

"All of his friends were not Muslim, so they had to leave - it was a big shock. It upset a lot of people."

Most hurtful for his family was that when it came time to move Erdinc's coffin, his closest friends were not allowed to take part in the proceedings.

"These complete strangers were grabbing my brother's coffin, not his mates, as a result of what this bloke had said," Mr Ozen said.

Mr Ozen has written to the mosque and Turkish consulate demanding an apology.

"He didn't raise any of this with us. There were plenty of opportunities," he said.

"I've spent as much time thanking people for coming as I have apologising to them over what happened."

Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad said: "What was done does not run consistently with our traditions. Our religion teaches us to be compassionate towards people grieving."

Teen run over during wild street brawl

ABC

Police have charged a 21-year-old man with murder after a teenager was killed in a hit-and-run incident during a violent street brawl south of Brisbane.

A 17-year-old Marsden boy died after being hit by a car outside a party at Station Road at Woodridge, south of Brisbane, around 10.00pm (AEST) on Saturday night.

Police say fight broke out between two groups of youths at the party.

Sergeant Tony Jackson says officers found a badly injured teenager when they arrived at the scene.

Ambulance officers and a doctor tried to revive the teen before he was taken the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Brisbane's southside where he died.

"The fight has spread out onto the road and during the fight a male person has been run over by a vehicle which has failed to remain at the scene," he said.

A witness, who did not want to be named, says bottles were smashed over people's heads, beer glasses were thrown and posts were ripped out of the ground and used to damage cars.

"There was glass everywhere - I was literally in the middle of world war three," she said.

"I had to stand behind trees so nobody would throw beer glasses or anything at me.

"People were picking up weapons like mailboxes [and] bricks and they were smashing all the cars.

She says one man got into his car and "sped up towards the crowd until he hit somebody.

"We were actually trying to get him off the road but this guy was going to run all of us over we had no choice but to drag him to the side of the road."

The girl says a passer-by stopped to help the teen, but was forced to leave after people involved in the brawl turned on her.

"He went under the car and someone who was driving past stopped and she was going to take him to the hospital and then her car [became] the target," she said.

"Everyone started throwing everything at her car and that's when she had to take off. She actually had to leave him there."

The 21-year-old Woodridge man has been charged with murder and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

But Come Monday it will be alright let the SPIN BEGIN

A new low for the Australian Labor Party:$173.000 per ILLEGAL Muslim asylum seeker as Chemotherapy Patients asked to pay MORE for treatment or die.

Budget cuts hit cancer treatment as key centre warns of closure

Sid Maher, Political Correspondent
The Australian
November 21, 2012 12:00AM

PRIVATE hospitals are warning of nationwide cutbacks to chemotherapy services - and one of the nation's largest regional cancer treatment centres faces closure - over a decision to slash federal government funding for chemotherapy drugs.

The Australian Private Hospitals Association has warned that the cost of providing treatment to thousands of cancer patients could rise by up to $100 for every chemotherapy infusion as part of the decision, which will save the federal budget $40 million a year.

Why has the Labor / Green / Loon / Independent "Co Party Government" been able to find in excess of $2.5 Billion annually for their  Islamic Colonization of Australia, via their "open borders" asylum seeker policy, but says it cannot continue to fund Cancer Patients Chemotherapy?
Sure these people are predominantly Australians, and as such, are, in the eyes of this Union / GetUp funded Government, very low on it's list of priorities, however even for the Australian Labor Party this is a new low.

Australians react to this despicable attack upon our most vunerable citizens via Sydney's #1 morning  radio program hosted by Ray Hadley on Radio 2GB.COM / 873 AM.

With medical facilities unlikely to be able to pass on the increase in prices charged by pharmacists for the drugs, they fear patients could be forced to seek treatment in an overcrowded public system if services in private centres are scaled back.

St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital in Queensland has warned its 25-chair unit - one of the nation's largest regional centres funded from the federal government's regional cancer care program - would face increased costs of $800,000 to $1m as a result of the decision and would not be viable when the cut took effect on December 1.

Cancer advocates met with federal Health Department officials in Brisbane last week over the issue.

The controversy has been sparked by a Health Department decision to cut by more than 70 per cent the price paid under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for Docetaxel - a drug used to treat breast, ovarian, prostate and lung cancer.

The cut was made under the government's price disclosure regime, which factors in discounting in prices charged to pharmacists by drug manufacturers to set the government price.

With the latest decision, the scheme has saved a total of almost $200m since the amount paid under the PBS for a range of chemotherapy drugs was first pared back when the regime was introduced in 2009. Revolts by the medical fraternity helped overturn past attempts to find savings from cutting spending on some chemotherapy drugs.

Opponents of the latest cut argue the decision on Docetaxel takes away the last drug where large margins were paid, eroding the ability of pharmacists to use the profits to cross-subsidise other aspects of chemotherapy treatment. This, they argue, will force higher costs to be passed on to private hospitals or patients.

A coalition of groups concerned about the cut - including the Cancer Council, the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia and anti-cancer advocates canSpeak - warns that a portion of the government's savings need to be reinvested back into the pharmacy sector to prevent increased costs being passed on to cancer patients.

Independent senator Nick Xenophon said he was concerned about the decision and would hold talks with the other independents, including Tony Windsor, and the Greens to have it overturned. "This is the worst form of false economy," Senator Xenophon said.

"What it will do is cost-shift to the public sector . . . and public sector pharmacists say they won't be able to cope. The whole issue with chemotherapy is it's time-critical.

"The patient can't afford to be on a waiting list. It has to be done on the same day."

The Cancer Council has expressed concern that the looming impasse between private providers and the government could have an impact on cancer treatment in regional areas.

Australian Private Hospitals Association chief executive Michael Roff said private hospitals would face cost increases as a result of the decision and even a small reduction of services of 10 per cent would mean 20,000 cancer patients being forced on to the public system.

He said to recoup costs, private hospitals would have to charge patients about $100 extra a treatment. Some patients required several treatments a week.

"In the majority of cases, private hospitals won't be able to pass those on to private patients because our contracts with health funds prevent that," Mr Roff said.

He said the outcome would vary from hospital to hospital depending on how they were supplied. "Some hospitals will be able to continue providing service," he said. "Some have indicated they will limit the types of services that are provided. Some have indicated they are looking at capping the number of treatments they provide to minimise the hospital's financial exposure. And some have indicated that they have no option but to cease providing chemotherapy services altogether."

St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital chief executive Ray Fairweather said the increased costs that would be passed on to the chemotherapy unit would make the hospital's financial situation untenable.

"It puts us in a very difficult situation whereby we either accept the cut, which is virtually impossible for us to do so, or we consider closing the service, which is the likely scenario."

Mr Fairweather said the facility had opened an upgrade - from 15 chairs to 25 chairs funded through the federal government's regional cancer care incentive - on November 12.

"The paint has only just dried. And now with the federal government announcing this reduction, and the passing on of those costs to the private hospital, we are in a situation where we have to consider very seriously the situation of closing the service virtually from December 1," he said.

The facility provides 7700 patient treatments a year and serves the Toowoomba region as well as western Queensland and northern NSW.

A Health Department spokeswoman said the December 1 price cut for Docetaxel would bring the price the government paid into line with the market price. For many years, pharmacists had been charging the government 20 to 75 per cent above market rates, meaning the government had paid in some instances $2800 above the market price, she said.

She said prices paid by cancer patients for PBS medicines were not affected by the price reduction.

"Pharmacists and hospitals cannot charge patients extra for PBS medicines," the spokeswoman said. "The department is aware that some private hospitals and pharmacists are concerned that Docetaxel price reduction may impact on the viability of providing chemotherapy drugs in some pharmacy settings.

"It is important to recognise that the PBS pays for the cost of the medicine, and the clinical services pharmacists provide in this sector are supported through funding arrangements with the hospitals.

"Therefore, as this relates to pharmacy dispensing remuneration, I have encouraged the (Pharmacy) Guild to provide specific examples to my department of where the current dispensing fee structure may not meet the cost of providing the dispensing service.

"Without this information, the government cannot be drawn on whether pharmacists or hospitals are appropriately funding the services provided to cancer patients."

Ian Roos, the chairman of advocacy group canSpeak, said one of the biggest concerns for patients was cost. "Many have lost their jobs, there is a burden on their family to take time off to travel to get treatment. They do not need this additional worry."

From Sydney's Occupied Territories: Sheik and a Nurse charged over Female Genital Mutilation

Sheik charged over female mutilation

Mark Morri, Crime Editor
The Daily Telegraph
September 13, 2012 2:40PM

A SHEIK and retired nurse have been charged in relation to the genital mutilation of two young girls in Sydney.

Police arrested the Sheik, 56, from Auburn and the 68-year-old nurse earlier today.

The children’s parents were charged last Friday with two counts of female mutilation.

NSW Police Force’s Sex Crimes Squad began investigating the allegations earlier this year and set up Strike Force Longfield and have been been working closely with NSW Health and the Department of Family and Community Services.

Police will allege the two girls had the procedure, which is also known as female circumcision, performed on them in NSW when they were aged six and seven.

Female genital mutilation is illegal in NSW, with it also an offence to take a NSW resident overseas to have the procedure performed.

The 56-year-old man was arrested earlier today and has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of female genital mutilation;

and hindering investigation of serious indictable offence. He was refused bail to face Burwood Local Court today.

Also arrested today was a 68-year-old woman who has been charged with two counts of prohibition of female genital mutilation.

Police will allege the woman performed the procedure on the two girls.

She has been granted conditional bail to face Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday 3 October 2012.

A 42-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested on Friday 7 September and charged with two counts each of female genital mutilation.

They were granted bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on 26 September 2012.

Investigations by Strike Force Longfield are continuing, and police are also appealing for anyone with information about female genital mutilation to come forward.

The mutilation is unlikely to be an isolated case, NSW Family and Community Services and Minister Pru Goward says.

Ms Goward told reporters the investigation was triggered by an anonymous tip-off to her office, and she understood it to be the first time in NSW
someone has been charged with female genital mutilation.

She would not say if the circumcision of the two girls was for cultural or religious reasons, but added it was "unlikely'' to be an isolated incident.

"That's why the rules were changed in 1994, because I believe that the state was aware that this was a distinct possibility,'' Ms Goward told
reporters at NSW parliament.

"It is disappointing in a way that it has taken this long for there to be a case where there was sufficient evidence collected to be able to press charges and make arrests.''

Ms Goward said female genital mutilation was an "abhorrent practice'' and "a form of child abuse''.

"It is illegal, and whilst there might be cultural practices acceptable to some communities in NSW it remains the case that it is illegal and that the full force of the law will be brought to bear,'' Ms Goward said.

She would not reveal where the two girls were being cared for, or who was caring for them, but said ``they are safe, and not at risk of further harm''.

"My department have been involved in this all the way along and we've certainly made all the necessary arrangements we believe are in order to ensure these children are safe,'' she said.

Genital mutilation not tolerated: Goward

By Isabel Hayes and Adam Bennett
Daily Telegraph
September 13, 2012 6:26PM

THE NSW government has warned that female genital mutilation will not be tolerated, after a man charged over the circumcision of two young girls appeared in a Sydney court.

Shabbir Vaziri, 56, appeared before Burwood Local Court on Thursday charged with two counts of being an accessory after the genital mutilation of the girls, who were aged six and seven at the time.

He is one of four people charged over the alleged female circumcision, which occurred in an unspecified location in NSW in the past 18 months.

The two young girls were unlikely to be isolated cases, NSW Family and Community Services and Minister Pru Goward told reporters.

Ms Goward said the investigation leading to the charges was triggered by an anonymous tip-off to her office.

It is understood to be the first time someone has been charged with female genital mutilation in NSW.

Ms Goward would not say if the circumcisions were for cultural or religious reasons, but she added the case was "unlikely" to be an isolated incident.

She described female genital mutilation as an "abhorrent practice" and a form of child abuse.

"It is illegal, and whilst there might be cultural practices acceptable to some communities in NSW, it remains the case that it is illegal and that the full force of the law will be brought to bear," Ms Goward said.

A 68-year-old woman was charged on Thursday with carrying out the procedure and will face Campbelltown Local Court on October 3.

A 42-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested last Friday and each charged with two counts of female genital mutilation.

They were granted bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on September 26.

The court heard Vaziri, from Auburn, had no prior convictions and had close ties to the community.

"The defendant has no previous record and is a law-abiding citizen," his lawyer, Hussein Karimjae, told the court.

Vaziri's bail application was opposed by the police prosecutor, who said he posed a flight risk.

The court heard Vaziri held an Indian passport and was about to fly to India when he was arrested.

Magistrate Christopher Longley noted that if convicted, Vaziri would probably be jailed.

But he granted bail under "stringent" conditions, including a $20,000 bond.

"To the overwhelming majority of citizens, this is a most serious set of circumstances," the magistrate said.

Ms Goward would not reveal where the two girls were or who was caring for them, but said "they are safe, and not at risk of further harm".

Indian "Cultural Enrichment" and "Harmony Day" ambassador Extradited to Australia to face Rape Charges

Indian Accused Of Rape Extradited To Australia To Face Charges

MELBOURNE – A 25-year-old Indian taxi driver, who is accused of raping a woman passenger two years ago in Australia, appeared briefly before a court here after being extradited from India.

Jaswinder Singh Mutta, who was extradited from India in January this year following his arrest by Indian police, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
Mutta allegedly raped 26-year-old passenger in his taxi late at night in the suburb of North Fitzroy on January 17, 2010.

He was charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault, according to The Age newspaper. Magistrate Jelena Popovic explained to Mutta that he had been brought before the court for a filing hearing.

Popovic said Mutta and his lawyer would be given access to the police brief of evidence against him by July 31. Mutta was remanded in custody for a committal mention on August 31. He did not apply for bail.

Jaswinder Singh Mutta, the first Indian to be extradited to Victoria, is facing two counts of
rape charges and one of indecent assault.

Melbourne: The 25-year-old Indian taxi driver, extradited on charges of raping an Australian woman passenger, had fled the country on a one-way ticket to India after committing the crime, a court was told on Thursday.

Jaswinder Singh Mutta, the first Indian to be extradited to Victoria, is facing two counts of
rape charges and one of indecent assault.

Mutta appeared in a Victoria court where it was heard that the cabbie fled to India on a one way ticket after allegedly raping his passenger. He left Melbourne on a Thai Airways flight on February 6, 2010 after buying his one way ticket.

In opposing Mutta's bail application in a Magistrates Court, senior investigative official, Shane Jenkins, unfolded the incident and informed that the alleged victim, who was 26, had met two girlfriends for dinner on January 17, 2010, and had been drinking wine throughout the night.
According to a report in 'The Age' newspaper, Jenkins told the court that the victim hailed

Mutta's taxi and asked him to take her home.
Jenkins said the woman vomited in the back of the taxi and Mutta told her she would have to clean it up.
Mutta drove her home and waited as she went to get a bucket of water and some cleaning products. As she was cleaning the taxi, Mutta pointed inside the taxi and said, "What about that?".
Mutta then forced the woman into the back seat of the taxi and raped her.
The official informed the court that Mutta at one stage told the woman, "Maybe I have AIDS", before saying, "Just joking".

Mutta, who came to Australia in December 2008 on a student visa, was interviewed by police on February 4 where he denied the rape allegations and refused to take part in an
identification parade or give a DNA sample.

Jenkins said police had seized Mutta's mobile phone which had two photographs of the
alleged victim. Mutta was released by police because of insufficient evidence at the time and next day he went to a flight centre office, and paid USD 975.59 for the one-way flight to New Delhi via Bangkok before flying out later that night.
Jenkins said a warrant for Mutta's arrest was issued after police found semen in the back of his taxi and in the victim's underwear.

Mutta was taken into custody by Indian authorities on January 5 this year before being
extradited. It was the first time an Indian national had been extradited to Victoria.
