"The chief weapon in the quiver of all Islamist expansionist movements, is the absolute necessity to keep victims largely unaware of the actual theology plotting their demise. To complete this deception, a large body of ‘moderates’ continue to spew such ridiculous claims as “Islam means Peace” thereby keeping non-Muslims from actually reading the Qur’an, the Sira, the Hadith, or actually looking into the past 1400 years of history. Australian ISIS supporter Mohamed Zuhbi denies funding terrorism after bank accounts frozen

"Lee Rigby 'was punished for crimes against Islam'
In one of Mr Zuhbi's social media posts, he discusses the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby, who was stabbed and hacked to death on a
London street by Islamic fanatics in May last year.
"The death of Lee Rigby wasn't murder, it was his punishment ... for his crimes against Islam," he wrote.
"If the governments won't hold their criminal soldiers responsible for the atrocities caused in our countries, the Muslims will."
Mr Zuhbi insists he does not represent ISIS and says the media has "sensationalised" the group.
"I'm not part of ISIS, I'm not a spokesperson of ISIS. What I do, however, is clear the misconceptions against them," he said.
Mr Zuhbi admits to living in an area governed by ISIS while staying in Syria.
"I did not see any brutality. I did not see any of these massacres people speak about," he said.
"There are groups that are much more brutal than ISIS. The only difference is ISIS has an Islamic agenda, they want to establish an Islamic

Counter-terrorism agencies warn of hidden danger of radicals who use Islam as a cloak for extremism

Janet Fife-Yeomans and Geoff Chambers

The Daily Telegraph

June 21 2014

TO OUTSIDERS, Sydney’s Islamic pavement-preaching movement is a harmless way to sell the religion.

Earnest young men in white skullcaps and traditional long white robes have become increasingly familiar on the city’s streets and in the grounds of universities as they seek to “spread the blessing of Islam!”

However, counter-terrorism agencies warn of the hidden danger coming from some of those inside using it as cloak for their extremism: It is a movement that has nurtured four dead radical fighters.

Three of its preachers, Ahmad Moussalli, Sheik Mustapha al Majzoub and Yusuf Ali, along with Ali’s young wife Amira Karroum, have been hailed as martyrs after dying in the past two years in Syria, the war zone where the fanatical ISIL militant movement now ravaging Iraq first began its bloody rise to power in 2013.

Now the western Sydney- based Dawah on the Streets is rallying its 12,000 supporters to join a men-only day of action next month.

The young men — who need to register with organisers for the July 5 rally — will be taught the

Regardless of what our religion is, we have to stand up and say that there is no way anyone could encourage anyone to go overseas to fight and to abuse religion to promote geopolitical agendas.

- Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian

GORAP (God’s Existence, Oneness, Revelation, And Prophethood) method, which involves avoiding heated discussions about their faith.

GORAP handbooks are handed to the street preachers, teaching them how to sidestep questions about terrorism, sharia law, polygamy and the treatment of women.

The Daily Telegraph attempted to speak to three Dawah groups yesterday, including the Islamic Dawah Centre of Australia and Dawah on the Streets. A spokesman for Dawah on the Streets refused to comment and said he didn’t know about GORAP, despite its presence on its registration page.

Community leaders have urged young people not to turn an increasingly volatile Iraq into the next killing fields as police renew warnings that anyone found to have illegally participated in an overseas war will face the full force of the law when they return to NSW — if they are lucky enough to get back alive.

“Regardless of what our religion is, we have to stand up and say that there is no way anyone could encourage anyone to go overseas to fight and to abuse religion to promote geopolitical agendas,” Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian said yesterday.

Lebanese-Australian Ahmad Moussalli, a former South Strathfield High School student, boasted of converting more than 30 people on the streets of Parramatta before heading to Egypt in 2012 and then into Syria, where he was killed in February this year.

Dr Kerkyasharian, former president of the Anti-Discrimination Board and chair of the Community Relations Commission, said he was very concerned about the Iraq crisis and the impact it will have on Australia.

“A very strong stand has to be taken by community leaders not only to support the government and the security agencies but also to send a very strong message to the young people not to be tempted to go overseas (and fight),” he said.

Counter-terrorism authorities do not view the Dawah movement as a major threat to security but remain conscious of the radicals among their number.

After the popular Sheik Mustapha al Majzoub died in Syria in August of 2012, reportedly while leading a rebel platoon in the northern Syrian town of Salma, Street Dawah Australia posted a tribute on Facebook to the man they described as “Our Beloved Brother/Teacher”.

One of his last lectures in Australia was at the radical Al-Risalah Islamic bookstore in Bankstown, which has since closed but maintains a presence online.

Lebanese-Australian Ahmad Moussalli, a former South Strathfield High School student, boasted of converting more than 30 people on the streets of Parramatta before heading to Egypt in 2012 and then into Syria, where he was killed in February this year.

Mr Moussalli was joined on the street patrols by his friend Yusuf Ali, 22.

Born as Tyler Casey in the US and raised in Queensland as a Christian, Ali converted at least one university student to the faith at Macquarie University during Islamic Awareness Week.

He died in a bullet-riddled house alongside his Australian bride, Amira Karroum, 22, earlier this year.

Counter Terrorism Assistant Commissioner Peter Dein told The Daily Telegraph in March he did not view Dawah street crews as a major threat to security.

Mr Dein said the large majority — up to 95 per cent — of street preachers were genuine and not unlike those of other religions and faiths.

With its base in Sydney’s inner west, Dawah On The Streets has now spread across the country with street crews to hold simultaneous events in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane on July 5. Women, who are not allowed to take part, have been asked to help out in the background.

“To every member of the community, not just leaders, anyone who comes across activity that encourages people to go (to Iraq) and take up arms and fight or to support people who are fighting are committing a serious offence against humanity,” Dr Kerkysharian said.

SPREADING THE WORD

Dawah means the proselytising or preaching of Islam and a da’i is a person similar to a missionary “inviting people to the faith, prayer and manner of Islamic life”.

It is a fast-growing movement which has even been on the World Cup streets of Brazil to talk to football fans.

On its Facebook page, Street Dawah Australia says it is about “Spreading the blessing of Islam! Eliminating misconceptions and showing you the other side of the coin about Islam!“

Australian Government Senator Nails Labor's Celebrity Muslim VOTE Person / Schmoozer, Keysar Trad.

It took the Union GetUp funded  Labor, Green Loon, Independent, "Co Party" EIGHT Months to decide, if Keysar Trad was suitable to represent them as a candidate.

EIGHT MONTHS!!!!!!
Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.

Senator BERNARDI (South Australia) (22:45): A couple of weeks ago it came to my attention that a man by the name of Keysar Trad was entertaining the notion of becoming a federal MP. He said he had had discussions with a friend in the Liberal Party but nothing eventuated. I say thank goodness for that, and you will understand why by the end of this speech.

What concerns me more is that it was reported that the Labor Party allegedly spent eight months in discussions with Mr Trad about his becoming a Labor candidate. After eight months I hope that the Labor Party have actually closed the door for good on Mr Trad being a Labor candidate. I hope they have closed the door, bolted it, locked it and thrown away the key. Of course, it is entirely up to the Labor Party whom they preselect to be one of their representatives; but the fact that Mr Trad said that the Labor Party talked with him for eight months says something about the culture within the ALP. I wonder if the ALP managed in eight months to find out what I did in about eight minutes—namely, that Mr Keysar Trad is wholly unsuitable to be a member of parliament or to be recognised by any other organisation as a community leader of any sort.

I know that these are very strong comments, and I bear no personal ill will towards Mr Trad, but if he wants to try to become a representative of the Australian people then we are completely entitled, and it is completely fair, that we examine his track record, his opinions and his views and that we establish his character. I do not need to make any substantial assessment of this myself. I only need to report the findings of the New South Wales Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

In 2009, the New South Wales Supreme Court found that Mr Trad 'incites people to commit acts of violence', 'incites people to have racist attitudes' and is a 'dangerous and disgraceful individual'. This stemmed from a defamation case that Mr Trad brought against Harbour Radio. In 2011, the New South Wales Court of Appeal overturned this initial ruling after Mr Trad appealed. But, late last year, that same court overturned its 2011 ruling, dismissing Mr Trad's appeal and upholding the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the aforementioned circumstances. Mr Trad was also ordered to pay Harbour Radio's costs in the appeals court.

Let me take a moment of the Senate's time to detail the evidence that supported the courts' findings. The courts based their finding that Mr Trad incites people to commit acts of violence on the following evidence: Mr Trad's own website used to have a link to a website he touted as having 'very good articles concerning Islam and Muslims'. But the courts found that this website held 'significant anti-Semitic views'. The judge simply did not believe Mr Trad's claims that he did not know about the nature of this website. In terms of his saying that the site had 'very good articles', court documents reveal that Mr Trad 'agreed he had little choice but to concede that this was an endorsement of what was plainly a racist website.' When he was interviewed by a journalist, Mr Trad said words to the effect of, 'There are many Jews who question how many died in the Holocaust', which the judge saw as 'an attempt to diminish the significance of those events.' In the end, both courts deemed that this showed that Mr Keysar Trad incited violence against Jewish people.

Both courts also agreed that Mr Trad incited people to have racist attitudes, given their previous conclusion that he had incited people to commit acts of violence due to his support for sources that were anti-Semitic. Justice McClellan said in the 2009 findings that he was 'satisfied that the plaintiff does hold views which can properly be described as racist.' He continued, 'I am also satisfied that he encourages others to hold those views. In particular, he holds views derogatory of Jewish people.' I put it to you, Mr Deputy President: how could any party think that this was a person suited for a federal parliamentary career—someone with views like that, that could be discovered in eight minutes of Google searching? Yet this man was, by his own admission, courted by the ALP for eight months. Does Australia really want someone in parliament who has been found by two courts to incite violence and racism?

I only wish it stopped there, but that is not all. Mr Trad has also been found to be a 'disgraceful' individual by the New South Wales Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. His comments on a number of issues led the court to state:

Any form of incitement to violence of a kind reasonably described as antisocial would satisfy such a standard. So would incitement to racist attitudes and the statements relating to homosexuals and homosexuality and the trivialisation of rape …
Then there is the finding that Mr Trad is a 'dangerous individual'—surely not a glowing reference for any prospective parliamentarian. This was based on the following opinion of Mr Trad: When talking about the gang rape of young women in Sydney by a group of Lebanese men, in one interview Mr Trad chose to tell a joke and described these types of perpetrators as 'stupid young boys'. The court said that his comments about the issue 'demeaned the victims of the crime', 'did not condemn the perpetrators' and 'trivialised the responsibility of rapists.' And if that was not enough, Mr Trad did not condemn Sheikh Hilali's disgraceful comments about women being 'uncovered meat' in a speech about rape. Instead Mr Trad chose to defend that speech and the sheikh's comments.

Mr Trad failed to condemn the Sheikh's reference to 'the blessings of the 11th of September' and the Sheik's condoning of the use of boys as martyrs in the cause of radical Islam. The court said that this 'involved putting forward ideas which risk an unbalanced or fanatical person being encouraged, or encouraging others, to participate in such activities'. The courts were right to be concerned about the reach of Mr Trad's opinions, given that many of his abhorrent views were in the public domain. The appeal court concluded that 'there is support for the conclusion that the appellant was properly described as a "dangerous" individual, in circumstances where the views he expressed were capable of influencing others, were intended to influence others and would have a receptive audience in some, if limited, quarters'. It said 'these factors, combined with the respects in which he incited others to violence and racist attitudes, being a person with a public presence and influence in some quarters, fully support the characterisation of the appellant as a dangerous individual'.

I put it to the Senate and to the Australian people: how could any reasonable person or any reasonable political party consider endorsing a person that holds these views to become a member of the Australian parliament? How could a party, like the Labor Party, be in discussions with this man for eight months, as was reported by the media? Did they fail to do any research into his character during that time? I have to ask: how many sections of the media and the community endorse this man as a national spokesman for the Islamic community? It is just beyond all reasonable comprehension. Beyond the findings of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal—although those findings are damning enough, one would think there are many other instances of Mr Trad's questionable views.

Mr Trad has openly advocated for polygamy in Australia through the Sydney Morning Herald asking: why should polygamy be a crime? He is not shy at all about seeking changes to our laws and customs. He says:

Monogamy is great, but it is clearly not for everybody. Islam openly acknowledges this fact of human nature and stipulates a regulatory framework for plural relations.
Although he draws the line at polyandry; he is not too keen to permit a wife to take more than one husband. It begs the question: where are all the equality advocates in the Labor Party when it comes to that?

And Mr Trad's challenge to Australian law does not stop there. He has also publicly spoken about sharia law in Australia, arguing the 'yes' case for separate Islamic courts to deal with divorce. He wrote that in the Daily Telegraph. He also said that there is support for parts of sharia law that deal with marriage and inheritance without the penal aspects. Such calls run counter to the views of most Australians including legal commentators, former judges, former Labor ministers and even our own Prime Minister, who advocate one law for all. Again, I ask: what was the Labor Party thinking, reportedly engaging someone who has views completely at odds to their own views on something as important as our legal system?

Some of Mr Trad's views on terrorism may not sit well with many Australians either. In 2005, he wrote an article published in the Daily Telegraph that said 'Australians should be more concerned with the United States than radical Islam.' He said, 'Radical Islam, while an anathema to Islam itself, is made up of no more than a bunch of rag-tag Dad's Army types, fighting for their own survival.'

The Infamous & Ignoble Keysar Trad argues “….the deliberate peddling of grossly sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic filth is not dangerous and disgraceful and an incitement to violence and racist attitudes in Australia in 2010. The most extraordinary claim is that his extreme views are [a] 'Muslim view'…………..''

Justice McClellan took a slightly different view. He said:

To downplay radical Islam and suggest that it is no more than rag-tag Dad's Army types, fighting for their own survival would not be acceptable to the Australian community. The plaintiff was effectively suggesting that the United States of America presented a greater threat than radical Islam to the Australian people.
It is just extraordinary. Justice McClellan was spot on when he said:

This stance would, in my view, be entirely repugnant to the overwhelming majority of people in the Australian community.
And a year after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the US, Mr Trad was reported in the Weekend Australian as saying:

Osama bin Laden would have trouble teaching someone to drive a car ... how could a man living in a backward country mastermind the hijacking of several planes, with the whole operation going off like clockwork? ... I just don't want to believe Muslims were behind it.
These views were, again, unacceptable to the NSW Supreme Court judge who branded this an 'extraordinary statement' and said that the Australian community would not accept these views: The judge said:

Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for September 11. A suggestion that the terrorist act was not perpetrated by adherents to Islam would not be accepted by Australians whatever their ethnic origin or religious views.
And if Mr Trad is so concerned about good relations between various groups within Australia, why then does he write about 'the criminal dregs of white society' and call Indian people 'cow worshippers'? This hardly sounds like the views of someone that would represent the opinions of mainstream Australians. According to Mr Trad, the Labor Party were in pre-selection discussions with him for eight months. Yet these are the views he holds and he has had no problem spouting them off to any journalist who approaches him. For years he has been the media's go-to man on any number of matters.

He is described as a 'Sydney Muslim community leader' even after he left the employ of Sheikh Hilali and the Lebanese Muslim Association. Given the court's findings about Mr Trad's opinions, should not that be just a little alarming? What does this say about some parts of our media considering that this is the man that journalists have been going to for years, as an authoritative voice of the Australian Muslim community? It simply beggars belief. I cannot believe that Australian Muslims would be happy with having him as their spokesman. He truly has done a disservice to the Muslim community when you consider the findings that I have detailed here tonight.

Hala Trad

There are Times you need to Fight

I want to be very clear here. You cannot be an advocate for free speech without conceding that there are going to be people who hold objectionable views and views different from your own. Having a difference of opinion should not preclude people from being part of the parliamentary process. It should be open to all Australians. I want to put on the record and I want to be very clear that I absolutely disagree with Mr Trad's views that I have outlined tonight; but they are his words and they are the words of the judgements that have been read against him.

But what I find most galling is that the once-proud Labor Party reportedly entertained for eight months the idea of having this man as a candidate for political office. And for years the media have lauded him as a national spokesman on Islamic matters. Tonight I have sought to lay bare the words and opinions of someone who seeks to become an elected representative of the Australian people—although, by all accounts, Mr Trad is completely unconcerned about what party would take him into parliament.

But I think it is completely reasonable that anyone seeking such a position should have their public opinions examined. And it is now up to the Australian people and it is up to the political parties in this country to determine for themselves whether they would like someone of Mr Trad's character representing them in the Australian parliament.

"It has not been easy and they remember 1998 as their worst year when Trad fell in love - "became obsessed", his wife says - with another woman. In desperation, Hanifeh proposed marriage on her husband's behalf to the other woman. "We were having a terrible time. He fell in love and I wasn't thinking about myself," she says. But his obsession passed. "He became more compassionate after it," Hanifeh says. "God meant for him to go through this experience and it made him a better person and more emotionally aware. It knocked him off his perch.""

Muslim man refuses to stand in court due to religion

Ben Mclellan
The Daily Telegraph
May 24 ,2014

A MUSLIM man who threatened to “slit the throat” of an intelligence officer has refused to stand for a judge in court. ( he should have been flogged into submission ANV.)

Milad Bin Ahmad-Shah al-Ahmadzai, 24, yesterday declined to stand as he pleaded guilty to threatening serious harm to a Commonwealth official and using a carriage service to harass and menace.

His lawyer Nick Hanna yesterday told the District Court his client’s refusal to stand was due to his religion.

Judge Ian McClintock queried what religious view prevented al-Ahmadzai from standing, which Mr Hanna was unable to answer.

“It is a perceived view that it is not appropriate for him to stand in court. It is not advancing any discourtesy to the court,” Mr Hanna said.

Commonwealth prosecutor Karen Leavy said “on the face of it it’s disrespectful”.

Mr McClintock did not instruct al-Ahmadzai’s to stand but said he had noted it.

Al-Ahmadzai pleaded guilty in December last year to threatening the intelligence officer in a phone call in May 2013, telling him “I’m gonna crack your neck” and “come near my family again, I’m gonna slit your throat pig”.

He was refused bail. His wife Fatima Elzamtar was in court yesterday with their child. Al-Ahmadzai had been under surveillance by the Joint Counter Terrorism Team since December 2009 because he was “allegedly committing terrorism-related offences”.

The court heard al-Ahmadzai was sentenced to five years and six months jail last year for an ATM ram-raid in 2011.

He is also charged over the attempted murder of a man at Rydalmere on May 1 last year.

The sentencing hearing was adjourned until July.

Halal SCAM moving forward in Australia

Halal’s Hard-To-Swallow Offensive

Quadrant

Antonia Newton
May 3 2014

There is much more than meets the eye to those little labels proclaiming foodstuffs fit to be consumed by the Prophet's dutiful adherents. Much more than statements of religious purity they represent a concerted and organised attempt to further Islamic influence in the West

The Byron Bay Cookie Company must have been shocked by the number of angry comments on its Facebook page  regarding “halal-certified Anzac biscuits”. The company had cheerfully declared that it would be “sending cookies to the Australian troops stationed overseas for Anazc day. If you would like to send them a special message, please comment on this post and we’ll collate all your messages.”  No mention was made of the halal certification, but the word was out, courtesy of the sleuths at Boycott Halal in Australia.

The comments ranged from bafflement to fury at the company’s alleged betrayal of Australian values — “Halal certified cookies which finance the spread of the very ideology that motivates the killers of our sons and daughters? Your moral compass needs a serious re-adjustment”, ” for example. There were vows never again to buy Byron Bay Cookie Company products, as well as expressions of support for Australian troops and their sacrifices. The company responded that it was trying to be “respectful and inclusive”, which drew further lashings of ire.

Multiculturalism, that brilliant policy by which people in all Western countries, that is, all developed nations, were to enjoy “unity in diversity” and become “strong” by means of non-discriminatory and fast-paced immigration (in Kate Lundy’s earnest but hilarious words, “One of the reasons I believe Australians are so good at sport is because we are so culturally diverse”) appears not to be producing another iteration of the post-World War II immigration boom’s “New Australians” so much as as a re-made Australia. It hardly needs to be said that deep divisions are appearing in the overall population on which the policy was imposed.

Even some of the most ardent “tolerance and diversity” enthusiasts are becoming uneasy about the ever-burgeoning demands by Muslim arrivals, whose more enterprising members have found ways not only to extract expensive privileges to do with “religious requirements” (prayer rooms, special Muslim officers in councils, and so on) but also (to promote the halal-certification business.)http://www.halalchoices.com.au/

There are several halal-certification bodies in Australia, and their annual fees appear arbitrary, depending on the body which has found its way to the particular food producer. Manufacturers tend to be coy when asked about the fees they are paying, and most of this information tends to come from companies which have been offered and refused certification. While halal butchers have long been familiar to Australians, the tiny Arabic markings found on manufactured foodstuffs, denoting permissibility for consumption by Muslims as free of any traces of forbidden foods, are a recent phenomenon. While it is understandable that observant Muslims might enjoy the convenience of simply locating the mark on processed food products, rather than peering at those small-print lists list of ingredients, the little halal mark is finding its way onto a range of unlikely comestibles.

Would a Muslim really concern himself with the contents of a can of coconut milk or pure corn oil, or the possible affront to his faith posed by an ingredient in his chocolate Easter egg, given that he might be keen to celebrate the resurrection of the man revered by Christians as the Messiah? He would be unsettled, apparently, and he might be further discomforted to learn that the driver of the van transporting items marked “halal” was actually an infidel. And what about ships? If the transported foodstuffs are to be deemed truly halal, should not the captain and crew be Muslims? Then there is the matter of the port where the ship docks, as foodstuffs can so easily be made impure. Don’t laugh, there is an officially declared “halal port” in Rotterdam,Rotterdam-Port---Important-halal-gateway.html and no doubt more are coming. Logistics is just a step in that expansion and evolution, but there are many others.

Yes, indeed, many a reader will say, we know they’re fussy, those Muslims, and so what? Jews also can be fussy with their kosher requirements. It doesn’t matter, the logic of conspicuous tolerance goes, because we are a sophisticated nation and entirely correct to scoff at our knuckle-draging fellow citizens’ “xenophobia” and reluctance to make a big noise “celebrating difference”. And, hey, isn’t Australia a much more interesting place nowadays?

But kosher labels do not target the entire community. And, as the Byron Bay Cookie Company, Cadbury and Purina Catfood, and hundreds of other non-Muslim companies are finding out, Australians have started to notice manufacturers’ amenable attitude to the suggestion made by certification bodies regarding potential Muslim buyers of their products, both in Australia and in Muslim countries, should they sign up and pay up. Research by interested citizens shows that Australians have little choice but to donate to the cause of Islamic expansion and imposition of sharia worldwide because of widespread manufacturers’ compliance with the scheme.

In a submission to a 2011 parliamentary inquiry, Australian Federation of Islamic Councils’ (AFIC) Ikebal Patel stated

“The submission cites regulations governing Islamic finance and halal certification in Australia as examples of how legal pluralism can work … It seems that in two areas, namely Islamic finance and halal food, the Australian government has been actively involved”.

Choice of purchase is made difficult because some companies pay for certification but do not display it on their packaging, and also because many supermarkets simply do not think it worth providing choice. (I was treated quite rudely at a supermarket I regularly frequent when I asked if the store buyers could try to provide non-halal choices. At first I was told it “didn’t make any difference”, then that I should “tell the manufacturers” and finally, “well, this is Brunswick!” as if Brunswick, with a growing number of Muslim residents, were already under unassailable sharia law).

Such a hostile reaction is not uncommon in our new, race-obsessed Australia. Opposition to Islamic cultural inroads and even imposition of fees and other costs on Australian citizens is often met with the accusation of “racism” or “bigotry” or both. One can only imagine the reaction from that side of the cultural divide should a Christian group mine the Bible for suitable words and set up a similar scheme. Apoplexy would be only the beginning.

However, Muslim “scholars” keen on expanding the halal concept to further the cause of Allah have perused the Islamic texts for inspiration, and found it.  The halal foodstuffs ruse has been so successful, and opposition so negligible, that new avenues have been discovered which combine the sensibilities of the modern West with Islamic pride and ambition. Thus does “halal” meet “sustainability”. A Monash University School of Business research project  is exploring the possibilities. Its head of management, Professor Pervaiz Ahmed, is “investigating the meaning and practical implications of halal in the areas of sustainable economic development, societal health and community welfare.” As a report in The Australian explains:

“For a country’s halal industry to compete internationally, Professor Ahmed says its ecosystem must meet the standards imposed by Islamic philosophy, and also place its benchmarks higher than those of conventional systems. To this end, the Monash project is broadening the definition of halal to its original and deeper philosophical meaning – a process that calls into question the status of many things classified as halal. Under this reading, fish (usually regarded as halal) would not be halal if it came from an endangered or over-fished species. Cruelty to animals in halal abattoirs would also render the meat ‘not halal’.”

The implied flattery of non-Muslims and their environmental concerns is a change from the usual assertion of higher ethics claimed for Islam banking practices and personal matters, but the message is tailored to the market as befits the goal, which is the expansion of Islamic influence. In this instance the courting of fashionable opinion would seem to represent an astute and prudent strategy.

“Some will say we are setting the bar too high,” Professor Ahmed explains. “But if non-Muslims are to buy halal products, the label has to signify animal rights and species protection.”

The academic world also represents a shrewd stage for the promotion of “halal ecosystems” because the post-modern community, if I can label it thus, has largely rejected Christianity. The rejection is broad-based, but one specific element in which Christianity has become discredited is its reputed disrespect for the natural world in placing mankind, allegedly made in God’s image, at the centre of His creation. If Islam can impress with their green credentials those who feel Westerners have despoiled the earth — here, conjure a mental image of those credulous souls who turned out at rallies to support the Carbon Tax,  then imposition of an Islamic eco-tax, such as that manifested by halal certification, is likely to seem justifiable. Gaia, after all, would approve of any measure that makes her lot a little esier.

As Islamic violence, increasingly macabre, rages throughout the Middle East and Africa and sporadic attacks occur in too many other areas to mention, as Christians are abused, murdered and their churches destroyed in foreign lands, Australians are being encouraged to purr over the concept of “halal ecosystems” and halal-approved “freshness”; and purr the writer of this Monash article certainly did. Had journalistic curiosity been a factor, the article might have asked about “endangered or over-fished” Middle East Christians, or whether the knives of the Prophet’s head-lopping militants are kept very sharp and in full accordance with halal requirements.

“War is deceit,” advised the Prophet Mohammed, and our “anti-racist” activists, as well as most academics and journalists have neither the training and imagination nor the will to recognize it — unlike the Byron Bay Cookie Company’s opponents.
