You know it’s Anzac Day, because so many of the Left are jeering.

Example 1:

FURIOUS ex-servicemen, the Australian War Memorial and NSW Premier Kristina Keneally have accused TV presenter Ray Martin of insensitivity and disrespect for re-igniting debate about the Australian flag on Anzac Day. Martin has angered defenders of the current flag, including many soldiers who will march behind it today, by hosting a television debate on why it should be changed on 60 Minutes tonight.

This afternoon, between 3.01 pm and 5.16 pm, Catherine Deveny (@CatherineDeveny), a columnist for The Age newspaper in Melbourne, posted 14 interesting tweets about ANZAC Day.  One she deleted before I could save it. Here are the rest (warning: strong language):…

They go further, arguing the resurgent interest in military history and the popular embrace of the Anzac myth are officially contrived, with John Howard the chief villain, enshrining militaristic values that prime us to rush off to other people’s wars.

They argue this militarisation of national values ‘’has naturalised our condition of always being at war and thus silenced debate about our current and future wars’’.

Example 4 (b):

Whats Wrong With Anzac?: The Militarisation of Australian History (New South, 2010) is a polemical work that argues that the Anzac legend has an exaggerated and unhealthy predominance in Australian identity, and especially in Australian schools…

The argument goes:

Australian national identity is too much focused on the Anzac legend
It excludes other key elements such as the development of democratic traditions, Indigenous peoples rights, and womens equal rights
What is learned about the Anzac legend is terribly distorted, militaristic and romanticising the idea of war
This distortion is caused by the teaching materials sent to schools by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)
These materials are promoted by a conservative government plot to foster a conservative nationalism rather than a more socially critical one…

Professor Marilyn Lake[’s] assertion is that a veritable tidal wave, a torrent, a bombardment of DVA education resources (four of which I have written over the last five years) are militaristic propaganda created by the evil John Howard to promote his vision of a reactionary nationalism and disarm progressive thought and social action. Her claim is that, through the DVA materials, History has been appropriated in Australia for militarist purposes and comprehensively re-written in the process ...

How does she support this? She lists DVA resources and other government programs (many of them from Labor Governments, by the way)…

Does Lake describe these resources to the reader? No…

Does Lake show how the resources present a militaristic or romantic view of war? She does not.

Does she offer any critical analysis of the resources? Not a word. She does not say one specific thing about the educational nature of the contents of any of the materials she condemns except, very strangely, to quote their description by the DVA as being written by professional history educators ...

Does she show how the resources stifle debate? No.

Does she discuss the inquiry-based approach of the resources, and show how they in fact only pretend to encourage student inquiry, but in fact are subtle and effective propaganda? Not done.

War memorial vandalised on Anzac eve

VANDALS attacked a war memorial on the eve of Anzac Day, throwing rubbish around the site and snapping a flagpole.

Up to a dozen teenagers are believed to have been involved in last night's incident at the Anzac Cenotaph outside the Arncliffe RSL Club.

The vandals are believed to have swung on the flagpole until it snapped, police said.

Garbage was also thrown around the memorial site in the southern Sydney suburb.

RSL staff and police cleaned up the rubbish ahead of today's Anzac Day ceremony at the club but the flagpole could not be repaired.

Police will maintain a watch over the memorial during the Anzac Day commemorations.

Police say they are keen to speak to up to a dozen teenage males, described as Mediterranean/Middle Eastern in appearance, seen in the area before the incident.

They have appealed for anyone with information about the vandalism, which occurred between 7.30pm and 7.45pm at the cenotaph in Wollongong Road, to contact St George Police on (02) 8566 7499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Angry Anderson - other cultures have introduced weapons

ROCK'N'ROLL bad boy Gary Angry Anderson believes life experience has taught him "Aussies use their fists" when they fight and that "weapons were introduced by other cultures".

The former Rose Tattoo frontman's comments before a Parliamentary inquiry in Canberra yesterday have experts describing his views as "pure fantasy" and ignoring "the realities of life".

Anderson, 63, was adamant he's not racist and said politically correct bureaucrats were getting in the way of progress when it comes to preventing youth violence.

“We Can’t be Beaten”

"The racial thing, the cultural thing needs to be addressed because it's not going to go away," he told a Federal Parliamentary Committee into the impact of violence on youth.

"You never kick a bloke when he's down . . . you don't gang up on a bloke. These things are Australian and we shouldn't shy away from being Australian."

The father of four said he had taught his sons these principles and said "other cultures" had introduced weapons, including the Lebanese, Indochinese and Pacific Islanders.

"We have to acknowledge that they have a different view about how they deal with each other," he said.

"It's not untoward for them to turn up to a fight with a hatchet."

Anti-Discrimination Board president

Stepan Kerkyasharian said the entertainer's views were unrealistic.

"To suggest that if people of a particular kind of culture weren't here a particular kind of violence wouldn't occur is pure fantasy," Mr Kerkyasharian said.

"To suggest a type of violence didn't exist before is purely ignoring the realities of life."

Australian Race Discrimination commissioner Graham Innes agreed with Anderson that "some violence in Australia has a racial aspect" but said it had been going on since the goldfields in the 19th century.

"We need a zero-tolerance policy from government to say that multicultural violence is not tolerated," Mr Innes said.

"Violence amongst racial groups is not new - the white settlers were violent towards Aboriginal people."

Outside Parliament, Anderson, who has worked with numerous youth charities, said he grew up in '80s Australia when "Aussie kids didn't use weapons".

"We've got to tell Lebanese kids and Indochinese kids that it might be all right where you come from but it's not all right here," he said.

"To suggest that if people of a particular kind of culture weren't here a particular kind of violence wouldn't occur is pure fantasy," Mr Kerkyasharian said.

The only fantasy here Mr Kerkyasharian, is the belief in Multiculturalism, a belief in a social structure where the host culture is legally cannabalised by the inferior cultures, indeed proven failed culrtures of colonialist who’s own culture was so good they RAN AWAY from it.

These colonialists and cultural assassins from many and varied failed cultures, are not happy with been given sanctuary in Australia, no, not at all, they and the likes of Mr Kerkyasharian  immediately start eating away at Australia and it’s institutions, demanding they be given every right, and indeed legal sanction, to impose upon Australia the very same culture,social structures and beliefs that they say made their own countries un liveable for them and their families.

Australians are racist, says street thug Sam 'The Assassin'

THE leader of Sydney's radical Middle Eastern street gang - Asesinoz MC - yesterday accused Australians of racism.

The 29-year-old, who calls himself Sam "The Assassin", defended the Parramatta-based gang's violent image in its YouTube videos and MySpace site.

They promote anti-Australian sentiment and flag burning.

"There are a handful of good Australians but most are racist by assuming Lebanese people are responsible for all crimes," he told The Daily Telegraph, speaking publicly for the first time.

"When they see a Middle Eastern walking down the street they assume they are Lebanese.

"I am half Lebanese and half Iraqi but I want the public and the police to know this: Don't forget about the Persians, Iraqis, Afghanis, Turks etc . . . because they do crimes too. That is why we have posted these videos up."

The president of one of the city's newest street gangs, he said he was known as Sam Asesinoz, which means assassin in Spanish, although it was not his real name.

On the gang's MySpace site, he warns: "Now we can't be f. . . . . with, coz we will take your life, we are the true soldiers."

He revealed yesterday that the Asesinoz MC had 70 members.

Senior police are concerned about the growth of gangs among young Middle Eastern men and have identified them, including Asesinoz MC and the Muslim Brotherhood Movement, as recruiting grounds for bikie gangs.

Mr "Asesinoz" said police, who have linked the gang to violence and vandalism, should be worried.

"Our goal is to make a name for ourselves," he said. "The things we do (are) the reason why we are called a gang.

"And what we do keeps the Asesinoz reputation up and it lets everyone know that we are the last people that should be f. . . . . with."

SYDNEY'S Middle Eastern youth gangs have become recruitment grounds for outlaw bikies - with allegiances split along religious lines.

Senior police sources revealed they are extremely concerned about the emergence of what they call the Muslim "feeder" gangs.

Youths of Middle Eastern background have become easy pickings for bikie gangs seeking to boost numbers to gain supremacy over rival gangs.

Members of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement have even dropped the Koran from their colours, replacing it with a Harley-Davidson logo.

The 600-strong MBM, the emblem of which features two crossed swords, is made up of young, predominantly Shi'a Muslims from Sydney's southwest. It is feeding membership of the Comanchero bikie gang whose boss, Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi, is a Shi'ite.

Bail bid fails for Mick Hawi

Police intelligence identified Asesinoz MC - which changed its name recently from the Parra Boyz and whose members are mainly Sunni - as being aligned with Notorious.

Asesinoz MC boasts of its extremist Islamic views on YouTube videos and promotes anti-Australian sentiment including flag-burning and statements like: "F. . . the police" and "Asesinoz MC is now targeting Aussies".

Asesinoz MC is close to Notorious because the bikie gang grew out of a split in the local Parramatta chapter of the Nomads. The Bandidos have joined forces with the Brothers for Life street gang, based in Auburn where the Bandidos have a strong presence.

Racism was becoming a growing factor in the bikie feuds, according to sources. "There's Notorious and Commanchero against the Hells Angels, who they call the skips, the whiteys," a source said.

In other disturbing developments, police are aware that gang members in jail are being groomed to take over leadership roles when they are released because the gangs are concerned the Government's new anti-bikie laws might take out their present leaders.

"They are now engaged in a bit of forward planning," a source said.

One identity believed to be the brains behind Notorious, former nightclub doorman Michael Ibrahim, is said to be recruiting prisoners up for release from Parklea jail, where he is serving a 6½-year manslaughter sentence.

Nomads boss arrested for `abduction'

SYDNEY'S most notorious bikie, Hassan "Sam" Ibrahim, has been charged today over the alleged abduction of a 15-year-old boy.

The boy was allegedly confronted while walking home, punched in the face and bundled into Ibrahim's car at 7.40pm on April 1 at Merrylands, in a case of apparent mistaken identity.

Police say he suffered facial cuts and a broken tooth.

The alleged abduction followed an attempted break-in at the Greystanes home of Ibrahim's estranged wife, during which she obtained a loose description of a youth responsible.

Acting on that, Ibrahim, 43, allegedly singled out the 15-year-old victim.

It will be alleged he drove the boy to a park where he questioned him over the attempted break-in, before he and two other males took him to Ibrahim's wife's home.

She allegedly told them the abducted boy was not the person who tried to break in.

The Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad arrested Ibrahim, 43, of Merrylands, around 10am this morning.

He is the former head of the Parramatta chapter of the Nomads and was released from prison late last year after being acquitted on charges relating to a bikie shootout.

More recently he escaped weapons charges.

Police have charged him with kidnapping and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Fairfield Local Court this afternoon.

A WOMAN associated with the Notorious outlaw motorcycle gang has been charged in relation to two drive-by shootings in Sydney's west.

Six people including a baby were in a house on Indigo Way, Prospect, when shots were fired at the property about 12.10am yesterday.

No one in the house was injured.

Minutes earlier, two pensioners inside a home on Taworri Rd, Doonside, escaped injury when the house was hit by a spray of gunfire.

Detectives investigating the drive-by shootings yesterday arrested a woman in a car in Leigh St, Guildford West, about 7pm after finding a revolver in her handbag.

Police believe she has ties with the Notorious gang.

The 24-year-old Prospect woman was taken to Merrylands police station and charged with possessing a firearm.

She is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.

Meanwhile, the Kings Cross-based Notorious are embroiled in a gang war with the Hell's Angels and Rebels over ethnic and territorial disputes.

Neighbours in Taworri Rd said yesterday the home at the centre of the drive-by had been raided by police about a year ago.

But the elderly couple at the home during the drive-by said the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

"I heard this bang, bang, bang more than I could count and I thought that it was an electrical problem with an appliance, maybe the stove," the 64-year-old man said.

"Then I felt pain in my leg and it was glass from the windows.

"(The room) was filled with haze, smoke. I've never experienced anything like this before."

His 63-year-old wife escaped being shot in the head by about 15cm.

"If I had sat up in bed I would have been killed," she said.

The Range Rover believed to have been used in the shootings - stolen from Waterloo on March 7 - was found burning in Blacktown.

Premier Nathan Rees said yesterday he would consider changing the law to help police catch and prosecute people involved in drive-by shootings.

Religious divide drives bikie war

AN ANCIENT religious enmity is at the centre of a new conflict in the Sydney bikie scene, with a new gang comprised mainly of Sunni Muslims warring with a group of bikies with a Shiite Muslim background.

While detectives continue to investigate the February 4 bombing of a Hells Angels clubhouse in Crystal Street, Petersham, police and other sources are indicating that the city chapter of the Comanchero is involved in an escalating feud with a new club, Notorious.

The president of Notorious is a Lebanese-Australian with a long-standing association with a bikie from a colourful Sydney Sunni Lebanese family. The two are among Sydney's original "Nike" bikies - sporting white sneakers, fashionable T-shirts and clean-shaven instead of the traditional boots, dirty vests and bushy beards - and both are from Sunni families from Sydney's west.

Notorious is considered by gang squad detectives to be the prime suspect in the Crystal Street bombing. One of its mottos is "Only the dead see the end of war" and its "colours", or coat of arms, is a turbaned skeleton holding twin pistols with "Original Gangster" beneath it. Today is the first time the club's colours have been revealed publicly.

On the other side of the conflict is the president of the Comanchero City Crew, a Beirut-born Shiite who grew up in the St George area. Comanchero has been one of the motorcycle gangs that have embraced the new breed of "Nike" bikie, and have been recruiting from the Lebanese and Islander communities for several years.

Traditionally, Lebanese Muslim migrants to Sydney have been geographically and religiously divided. The Sunni majority live in Sydney's west and south-west, mainly around Auburn and Bankstown, while the Shiite minority live in the St George area. "The two groups have no love lost between them," a senior police source told the Herald.

They have been fighting since the Sunni bikie, one of Sydney's most well-known gangsters, became president of the Nomads Parramatta chapter in the late 1990s.

In 2006, he was jailed over a Newcastle shooting. The following year, the Parramatta chapter's Granville headquarters was bombed, allegedly by the Comanchero, and the chapter subsequently disbanded.

A few of its members formed Notorious, probably at the request of the Sunni bikie.

"[The Sunni bikie] left the Nomads while he was on remand," said an investigator who has watched the two groups for years. "He was telling people he was planning to start up his own club. Around about the same time, Notorious appeared."

Unlike the Sunni bikie and the Notorious president, the Comanchero City Crew president was born in Beirut and grew up in Sydney's southern suburbs. He appeared on television in 2005 following the Cronulla riot and Maroubra reprisal violence, when he met members of the Bra Boys to calm tensions.

When the Herald asked the president of the Hells Angels city chapter about the bombing, he was succinct: "I've got nothing to say, thank you."
