SANAA — A 12-year-old Yemeni girl, who was forced into marriage, has died during a difficult delivery in which her baby also died, a children's rights organisation said on Sunday, demanding action to stop Yemeni men taking child brides.

"The child, Fawziya Abdullah Youssef, died on Friday September 11 in western Yemen at the age of 12 due to a complicated delivery," the Yemeni Organisation for Childhood Protection (Seyaj) said.

The organisation said its volunteers had confirmed that doctors had been unable to save Fawziya's life after she suffered complications from the delivery.

Raised in an impoverished family with a father suffering from kidney failure, Fawziya was forced to drop out of school and married off at the age of 11. She got pregnant a year later, the group said.

"The lack of a statutory minimum age for marriage makes it impossible for local officials to ban child marriages, especially among girls, or to punish their parents or spouses for the disastrous consequences of such marriages," Seyaj said, adding that such marriages are widespread on Yemen's Red Sea coast.

"The case of Fawziya illustrates the tragedy of those whom we call 'the brides of death', who are little girls, less than 15 years old, forced into marriage, mostly due to financial reasons," Seyaj director Ahmed al-Qorashi told AFP.

"The proportion of little girls and teenage females married before 15 is nearly 50 percent" in rural parts of Yemen, one of the world's poorest countries despite its proximity to oil-rich Saudi Arabia.

"These marriages are the result of poverty, ignorance and illiteracy, and lead to the destruction of the lives of these young girls, whose opinion is not taken in consideration," Qorashi added.

Last year, a Yemeni court granted a divorce to an eight-year-old girl whose unemployed father forced her into an arranged marriage with a man 20 years her senior, saying he feared she might otherwise be kidnapped by the would-be spouse.

The case of Nojud Mohammed Ali shed light on the suffering of the many adolescent girls forced into marriage.

"This is a real tragedy in which the government is the top responsible party, because the president (Ali Abdullah Saleh) has until now not promulgated the law (on a minimum age for marriage) adopted by parliament in February," said the lawyer who obtained Nojud's divorce, Shaza Nasser.

She said the government "should launch awareness campaigns in rural areas and prevent clerics from concluding marriage contracts" for girls under the age of 17.

She said authorities also had the duty to make sure girls received schooling in a country where illiteracy rates are estimated at 33.4 percent among men and reach 76 percent among women.

Since she won Nojud's case, Nasser has been contacted by many girls in similar situations who were encouraged to speak out by her success in the courts. She has already helped a 10-year-old girl, Arwa, to get a divorce.

She said she was currently working on the case of a teenager who had been married off by her father at the age of two because he needed the money. The marriage contract allowed her to remain with her parents until the age of 13 when she was expected to consummate the union.

ALONE, in shocking pain and bleeding copiously,

gave birth to what might have become her third child in the bathroom of her St Helen's Park home, while her husband, son and daughter slept.

Despite twice visiting the emergency department of Campbelltown Hospital with obvious symptoms of a miscarriage, Mrs Taylor, 26, was not given the option of admission, but sent home on both occasions - delivering a 14-week foetus without professional support and with only paracetamol to counter excruciating labour cramps.

''It had ears, eyes, fingers,'' she said of the traumatic loss two weeks ago. ''It was a fully formed child. That's an image you don't lose. You can't just flush it away.''

Two years after Jana Horska's miscarriage in a public toilet at Royal North Shore Hospital sparked an inquiry, NSW Health has not published promised treatment protocols for women who lose an early pregnancy, so Mrs Taylor's experience cannot be measured against a standard.

Instead, a spokesman yesterday referred the Herald to guidelines issued by the Australian College of Midwives, saying they were used by area health services ''to develop local policies for the management of patients with complications in early pregnancy''.

But Hannah Dahlen, a college spokeswoman, said the advice concerned basic nursing care and did not define appropriate treatment for the one in seven pregnancies that miscarry.

In October 2007 the then health minister, Reba Meagher, pledged to respond within a month to an independent report into the Horska case that recommended urgent development of care protocols for miscarrying women. The Government funded extra early pregnancy nursing positions in emergency departments, but did not commit to specific care standards.

Late yesterday the Health Department confirmed it had circulated a draft early pregnancy care policy, understood to detail circumstances in which, for example, women with pain or bleeding in early pregnancy should have an ultrasound or pathology test.

A spokesman said clinicians were already using the draft recommendations - which are not available to patients - and the document would be made public this year.

Yesterday a spokesman for Sydney South West Area Health Service, which administers Campbelltown Hospital, offered sympathy to the Taylors, but said: ''Women experiencing miscarriage are not routinely admitted to hospital unless medically necessary''.

Mrs Taylor had agreed to return home, he added.

Andrew Zuschmann, from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said women in Mrs Taylor's situation should always be offered admission.

''They need access to clinical support and psychological support, and they should be in an environment where they can get that.''

A week ago, the Herald ran a story which, in its essence, was not true. The paper did not know this. It was the unwitting victim of a distortion created at The Washington Post, which produced the original story. The Herald's headline, which reflected the story, said: ''Right-wing 'lies' force Obama adviser out''.

 

The story began: ''The White House environmental adviser, Van Jones, a towering figure in the environment movement, has resigned after weeks of controversy stemming from his past activism … In a statement announcing his resignation, Jones said, 'They [his critics] are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.'''

No. The distortions have come from Jones. Far from being ''a towering figure in the environmental movement'', Jones was appointed to the Obama Administration despite a past as a hate-mongering Marxist who reinvented himself as an environmentalist to further his political agenda.

As an environmentalist, Jones is a featherweight. As a moral blackmailer, he is a heavyweight. His career prior to his appointment by the White House was as corrosive and racist and driven by hot air as the career of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, whose sermons Barack Obama listened to for many years.

Yet President Obama gave Jones, at the age of 39, with scant executive and financial experience, responsibility for helping to steer billions of dollars towards programs promoting green jobs. His formal title was Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

In examining Jones's fitness for elevation to a very high position in the Obama Administration, numerous glaring problems should have come to light.

From 1992 until 2002, Jones was a member of a Marxist fraternity dedicated to ''a revolutionary movement in America''. During the Rodney King race riots in Los Angeles in 1992, which spread to other cities, Jones was arrested in San Francisco during a demonstration by radical activists.

In 1996 he set up a community organisation, the Ella Baker Centre for Human Rights, named after an African-American communist.

On September 11, 2001, within hours of the mass murders in New York and Washington, the Ella Baker Centre issued this statement: ''Community-based organisations led by people of colour will hold a 'Solidarity Gathering' and candlelight vigil on Wednesday night to support the Arab-American community, which is suffering from a tidal wave of bigotry in the wake of Tuesday's bombings in New York City and Washington, DC.''

Two days later, on September 13, Jones said in an interview: ''The bombs the government drops in Iraq are the bombs that blew up in New York City.'' He later signed a petition calling for ''an immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur''.

He produced an album of racial provocations by Mumia Abu-Jamal, a member of the Black Panther Party convicted of murdering a police officer. He remains on death row, from where he contributes to a Marxist newspaper.

In 2005 Jones reinvented himself into an environmentalist, but merely shifted his racial baiting. Typical was this comment, available on YouTube: ''White environmental polluters are essentially steering pollution into minority communities.''

In another interview, he said: ''You've never seen Columbine [a high school massacre in 1999] done by a black child. Never! These suburban white kids, it's always them! Now, a black kid might shoot another black kid, but they'll never shoot up an entire school.''

As for his academic credentials, he was offered an affirmative action scholarship, available to African-Americans, to both Harvard and Yale universities. ''I decided to go to Yale,'' he said in an interview, ''because Yale didn't have any grades and was smaller than Harvard. I figured, once I enrol I'm guaranteed to graduate, so I can just go and be a radical hell-raiser student, and they can't do anything about it. Which is pretty much what happened.''

When he later retooled his radical social agenda as environmentalism, he did so as journalist, polemicist and community activist. In 2007 he founded Green For All, an organisation dedicated to creating ''an inclusive green economy''. Last year his first book was published, The Green Collar Economy, which became a modest bestseller. The book earned him plaudits in the mainstream media.

But when Jones's past, his vicious rhetoric, his wild conspiracy theories, his Marxist economics and his paucity of managerial experience began to emerge, the same mainstream media, locked into its own political biases, did not want to know about this story, and did not want their audiences to know about the other side of this newly installed green hero.

Prior to Jones's resignation, despite revelation after revelation which made his position untenable, The New York Times, The Washington Post and the major networks, NBC, CBS and ABC, carried not a word. They preferred to be beaten on a big story than to even acknowledge it.

While the Fox News Channel, which drove the Van Jones story, has been one of the biggest media success stories of the past decade, becoming highly profitable and highly influential, during the same decade The New York Times Company has plunged in market value. It is one of numerous once-powerful media companies which would rather die than change an ideological agenda hidden under a false mask of objectivity.

Not just Van Jones has been exposed and damaged by this story. And President Obama's approval rating with white voters has dropped sharply in recent months.

A RIOT by Muslim youths in Auburn last week was organised via Facebook, police believe.

The troublemakers used the social networking site to flash up inflammatory references to police and rally their friends for a confrontation.

One update identified police as "non-believers" who were raiding a "brother's home". More than 150 people gathered in Cumberland Rd, Auburn, on Tuesday night, forcing police to call in 100 officers, the riot squad and a helicopter.

The tense stand-off came after Middle Eastern organised crime squad police raided four homes.

Opposition police spokesman Mike Gallacher's office revealed one of the Facebook updates read: "Kefeirs raiding brother's house, everyone get down hier (sic)!!"

A spokesman for Mr Gallacher said the term used to describe the police had become a slang Arabic term used to describe non-believers. Mr Gallacher said laws preventing the use of a mobile to call or text others to incite a riot failed to cover social networking sites such as Facebook.

"I don't think it is an intentional move by people to get around the law - it is the way a lot of younger people contact one another and it would appear there is a loophole in the law," he said.

"Using Facebook and Twitter and modern technology gives a quicker way of getting messages out to a larger number of people."

Detective Chief Superintendent Ken McKay said the Middle Eastern organised crime squad was looking into phone communication and would expand the investigation to Facebook. He said regardless of the laws covering the means of communication, the police could still identify and pursue those responsible for Facebook messages.

"If you incite a riot it doesn't matter by which means, how you do that is somewhat irrelevant,"

Supt McKay said. And he said he was concerned by the general lack of respect young people from all backgrounds have for authority. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Attorney-General John Hatzistergos also said current laws could be applied, adding: "There is a range of serious offences where people call on others to riot or commit other offences via mobile phone or the internet."

Barack Obama sends us his Superman Jeff Bleich

A TOP lawyer from California who has known Barack Obama for 20 years and played a big role in his campaign for the White House is to be the next US ambassador to Australia.

The US President will today announce Jeff Bleich as his choice to fill the vacant ambassador's position in Canberra.

The appointment of Mr Bleich follows a history of presidents favouring friends and political supporters for the comfortable diplomatic post.

But Mr Bleich's closeness to the Obama administration as a senior counsel to the White House since March indicates the importance placed on the US relationship with Australia.

It also reflects Mr Obama's growing bond with Kevin Rudd after the pair announced initiatives on climate change at the G8 summit in Italy in July.

Mr Bleich, 48, an over-achieving lawyer known for his work with more than 20 charity and community organisations, is likely to bring extraordinary energy to his new diplomatic job.

Currently on leave from his position as a litigation partner in the San Francisco office of legal firm Munger Tolles & Olson, Mr Bleich is a former president of the California State Bar and the San Francisco Bar Association.

He chairs the board of trustees at California State University and is adjunct professor at the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.

Two years ago, a colleague from a rival law firm, Michael Tubach, remarked: "Basically, Jeff is Superman. He seems to be able to do everything."

Mr Bleich and his wife, Becky, have two teenage sons and a younger daughter.

Among colleagues, he is known for his "luminous" personality and fascination with Elvis Presley memorabilia, which adorns the walls of his law firm office among many degrees and awards.
A former student at Harvard, like Mr Obama, where he graduated with the highest honours, Mr Bleich met the future president 20 years ago when they were interviewed as potential clerks to the then chief judge of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Deeply involved in Democratic Party politics, he was present when Mr Obama jumped to prominence as an aspiring senator after giving a keynote speech at the party's 2004 national convention. The friends had breakfast together two days later.

When Mr Obama ran for president last year, Mr Bleich co-chaired his campaign in California, a state crucial to his eventual victory.

He was a key networking link for Mr Obama in California, introducing him to lawyers across the state and raising campaign funds.

Mr Bleich was a member of Mr Obama's national finance committee, and travelled to at least three states to help win votes during the campaign.

He was quoted in the San Francisco Bar Journal last year as saying: "I'm not getting a lot of sleep this year."

When Mr Obama asked him to be special counsel to the President in March, it was not the first time he had worked at the White House.

In 1999, he served then president Bill Clinton as director of the White House Commission on Youth Violence, following the shooting deaths at Columbine High School in Colorado.

For many years, Mr Bleich has been an advocate for the rights of children in foster care, performing pro bono work.

Earlier this year he was honoured for outstanding service to children and the community by the board of directors of Court Appointed Special Advocates in San Francisco.

Much speculation has focused on who Mr Obama would choose for the US ambassadorship to Australia. Over the past few months he has announced a string of ambassadors to China, Japan, Britain, France and other countries throughout Europe. But the post in Canberra has been left open since January after the departure of George W.Bush appointee Robert McCallum.

In the interim, the job has been performed by the embassy's charge d'affaires, Dan Clune.

In May, the US embassy in Canberra dismissed the suggestion Australia had been snubbed when it was not among a round of ambassadorial appointments made by Mr Obama.

At the time, an embassy spokeswoman said the order of nominations did not reflect which country was more important. "We've got a close relationship so the administration is looking to appoint someone who has the best fit as soon as possible," she told The Weekend Australian.

The Prime Minister is still to appoint the next Australian ambassador to the US, after announcing last month that serving ambassador Dennis Richardson would return to Canberra to become head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Several names suggested so far include former federal Labor leader Kim Beazley and former NSW Labor premier Bob Carr. Both have a keen interest in US politics and history, but Mr Rudd could opt for a professional diplomat or senior bureaucrat.

Although Mr Bleich's appointment still depends on official confirmation from the US Senate, he is unlikely to strike significant obstacles.

The Senate confirmed another lawyer and Obama campaign fundraiser, John Roos, as US ambassador to Japan.

Mr McCallum, the former US ambassador, was a college friend of Mr Bush. And his predecessor, Tom Schieffer, was a former business associate of the Republican president.

The US Democrats sent one of their top electoral strategists to Australia to overseer the Australian 2007 Federal election as did the Chinese Communist Party, who sent in excess of 100 Chinese Communist Party members to door knock crucial electorates with a high proportion of ethnic Chinese voters.

The 2007 Australian Federal election was a trial run for the 2008 US presidential election, both leftists party’s,the US Democrats and the Australian Labor Party,used almost identical,slogans and bumper stickers for their policy’s,eg. “working families” “change” “getting the balance right” “time for change” “hope”

None of the above slogans and bumper stickers have been delivered in Australia since the Australian electorate fell for the media generated tsunami proclaiming the God like qualities of Australia’s very own Messiah, Kevin 07 “I have never been a socialist” Rudd.

So I guess it’s no surprise Hussein Obama would select one of his “California Dreaming” left coast “community organizers” and Hussein Obama fund raiser’s to some plumb job down under, as a reward for his dedicated service to his Messiah’s Socialist cause.

Aussie News & Views & September 11 2001

 

I have just watched a documentary on the History channel here in Australia on the events of September 11 2001.

It was made up entirely of actual video footage taken by people on the ground in various parts of New York, It was one of the best accounts of that day of Islamic infamy and mass murder.

I will be purchasing a copy of the DVD if it is available while I still can, before the Hussein Obama regime moves to forbid such display or ownership of such records of Allah’s finest doing their best to further the “Religion of Peace” and it’s objectives.The documentary was so good I think that Hussein Obama and his regime and fellow “deniers” be forced to watch it in front of survivors and victims families so that the next time he and his fellow Islam apologists grovel to the King of Saudi Arabia or declare September 12 a party day of community service to his regime they will understand he does such things not out of ignorance of Islam’s savage often stated intent towards Americans,and the Judeo Christian world, he does and says the things he does because that is the true heart of  Messiah Hussein Obama.

I simply want to say that myself and millions of other Australians are thinking of our American friends on the anniversary of that most wicked assault upon humanity,a day where 11 Australians died alongside Americans and indeed people from all over the world.

INDONESIA'S staunchly Muslim Aceh province is set to enforce a strict form of Islamic criminal law, including stoning to death married adulterers, a lawmaker says.

"Unmarried people who commit adultery will be caned one hundred times and married persons will be stoned to death," Raihan Iskandar, a provincial lawmaker from the Islamic-based Prosperous Justice Party, said.

Aceh, where separatists had been fighting the Indonesian government since 1976 until a peace deal in 2005, has so far only partially adopted sharia law, which requires modest Muslim dress codes, mandatory prayers five times a day, fasting and the giving of alms to the poor.

Sharia was implemented under a broad autonomy package granted by the central government in 2001 to pacify the hardline Muslim region's demand for independence.

"This bill only focuses on ethical issues which include consumption of alcohol, gambling, committing adultery and raping," Iskandar said.

Aceh's provincial parliament was scheduled to pass the new law Monday, he added.

Crimes such as murder, robbery and corruption will not fall under the new law in Aceh, located at the northern tip of the island of Sumatra.

Nearly 90 percent of Indonesia's 234 million people are Muslim, most of whom practise a moderate form of the religion.

Protests over school fight expulsion

A FAMILY has demanded a school allow their daughter to return to study after she was expelled for her involvement in a huge schoolyard fight.

The lunchtime brawl at Al-Taqwa College in Truganina, in Melbourne's south-west, allegedly involved up to 60 girls on August 19.

Five girls, including 16-year-old Sarrah Al Shak, were expelled after the brawl, and up to 17, including her sister Sumaya, 13, were suspended. Sumaya was suspended for two weeks.

Sarrah claims she was defending her sister and another girl, who had become the target of bullying because she told a teacher other students were distributing cigarettes.

Sarrah says she became physical during the melee, but says this was in self-defence, and that she had not previously been involved in fights.

During the fight she was sworn at, punched, spat on, had orange juice poured on her head and other students tried to rip her head scarf off, she says. She also suffered numerous asthma attacks.

A teacher about 15 metres away was asked to intervene, but told students she was on yard duty and couldn't leave her designated area, the sisters said.

The girls' mother is a part-time teacher at the Islamic college.

Their father, Hasan Al Shak, did not blame the other students for the fight but said the school made no attempt to discuss the matter with his family before expelling his daughter.

''We don't blame the other students that were involved in the fight, they're just kids, they need to be guided,'' Mr Al Shak said.

The school's principal, Omar Hallak, did not return phone calls from The Age.

This week he told the Wyndham Leader that Al-Taqwa had taken a tough stand on bullying.

CONVICTED criminals who pose a terrorist or organised crime risk are free to work on Australia's ports due to gaping holes in the nation's maritime security, according to a report commissioned by the Federal Government.

The damning Office of Transport Security report reveals the central plank of Australia's post-September 11 waterfront security scheme has failed to meet its core goal - to keep criminals convicted of terrorism-related offences away from maritime sites.

The report, obtained under freedom of information laws, will embarrass the Rudd Government as it is the latest in a string of confidential documents that have been sent to at least two cabinet ministers, Anthony Albanese and Brendan O'Connor, exposing the parlous state of national infrastructure and transport security.

The 75-page report examines the maritime security identity card or MSIC scheme, which was introduced in 2003 and requires workers to undergo criminal background screening and an ASIO assessment to access wharves and offshore facilities.

But the report reveals that the scheme is failing because it does not detect and act on "a range of offences and behaviours that are known to have linkages with terrorist activity and the unlawful interferences with maritime transport and offshore facilities''.

The offences going undetected include those relating to possessing explosives, theft, significant weapons violations, racketeering, blackmail and bribery and "offences relating to the death of another human - be it by assassination or murder".

The report was completed last August, eight months after the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, delivered his first national security statement and vowed to step up the fight against terrorism and organised crime.

A departmental source said the Government has known of the glaring problems with the MSIC scheme for over a year, but failed to act due to union opposition to any toughening of background screening - a key recommendation of the report.

The report says that the existing threats to the maritime sector include terrorists using improvised explosive devices, small arms or larger weapons, and organised criminals trafficking in arms and drugs.

"Criminal elements already engaged in the above unlawful activities can be potentially recruited, co-opted or tricked into facilitating terrorist planning."

But it says ''a major gap'' exists in the security regime because ''a great many offences that are related to terrorist and related activity are not captured''.

The report concludes that the security card regime ''does not adequately reflect the stated policy objectives - particularly when one takes into account the potential use of trusted insiders and the threat of criminal infiltration by organised crime groups''.

The report reveals the wharves are further exposed because the existing security regime ignores the vast body of criminal intelligence held by the Australian Crime Commission.

The report, conducted by the consulting firm GHD, also reveals that as long as a maritime worker commits a serious criminal offence after they have been issued a security card, it will not be detected for several years.

Details of the report were sent in late July to Mr Albanese, who was criticised earlier this week over claims he failed to act while an opposition MP in 2006 when a customs official leaked him details about gaping holes in airport security.

The Herald revealed in June that the Home Affairs Minister, Brendan O'Connor, was being briefed on a separate report by the Australian Crime Commission that found that organised crime syndicates have an entrenched presence at some wharves and airports and are exploiting gaps in security.

The report calls for an overhaul of the security scheme, including a broadening of the offences for which a worker can be denied a security pass and better use of criminal intelligence.

Figures provided by the Department of Transport reveal that since October, about 20 per cent of the 12,552 maritime workers who have applied for a security card had a criminal record, but only 41 were denied a card.

A still-secret review of the aviation security identity card system has also recommended sweeping changes.

Stone film says U.S. demonises Chavez, other leaders

VENICE (Reuters) - Director Oliver Stone says the U.S. media and government have demonised Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and other leftist South American leaders, and argues in a new film that they were right to stand up to Washington.

Chavez in particular has earned a reputation for his outspoken criticism of U.S. policy, and in Stone's documentary "South of the Border" he is sympathetically portrayed as a hero of the people who refuses to be bullied.

Originally an attempt to redress what Stone saw as unfair treatment of Chavez by broadcasters and newspapers, South of the Border turned into a bigger project and included interviews not only with Chavez but with six other presidents in the region.

"I think the movie, if you've seen it, shows very clearly the level of stupidity in the kind of broad statements that are made about Mr. Chavez," Stone told reporters in Venice, where South of the Border has its world premiere on Monday.

"But I didn't want to make a movie only about the American media's attacks. I felt that that was too small for what this man is about. This man is a big phenomenon.

"So we travelled in a road trip kind of movie to visit these other presidents and we saw the positive side of what is going on, the sweeping change in this region. It's a very important historical phenomenon that is ... ignored in America."

South of the Border combines clips of U.S. broadcasters and commentators describing Chavez, one of them comparing him to Hitler, with interviews and news footage of economic upheaval across South America during the last decade.

IMF SEEN AS CULPRIT

Stone points the finger of blame at the International Monetary Fund, which he says imposed "neo-liberal," U.S.-led conditions in return for loans, and hails today's leaders for wresting back control of their resources.

Chavez, and other leaders including Bolivia's Evo Morales and Argentina's Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, criticise the fund, and voice support for greater regional cooperation.

"Each one of these countries ... is in for a struggle," Stone said. "The idea that Chavez has expressed ... is 'Let's unify, let's stay together here because we are up against a giant', not only the U.S. government giant but against corporations that are multinational and very strong."

Asked about anti-Chavez demonstrations over the weekend in Caracas involving thousands of people, Stone replied:

"Chavez continues to remain very popular in Venezuela and he keeps getting elected. Without doubt social improvement has been extreme in Venezuela. There are many problems still but it's a wonderful change that's occurred since 2000."

And questioned whether Chavez would attend the gala premiere in Venice, he replied: "I cannot say yes, and I cannot say no."

South of the Border looks like a movie made in a hurry, with soundmen and cameramen often in shot.

It includes amusing scenes as when Chavez is riding around his childhood yard on a bicycle when it buckles underneath him, and Kirchner complaining as she waits for someone to bring her a photograph: "Men can be slow. My god!"

Stone said he had been in talks with Iran to make a documentary about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but that scheduling on both sides had prevented it.

"I was very interested because I thought we were going to go to war in Iran," he said. "If we had been more successful in Iraq, I have no doubts that we would have been more involved in the Iranian situation now."

Angry crowd turns on police in four-hour-standoff

POLICE were pelted with bottles and an officer punched in the face last night when searches on four houses in Sydney's west sparked a four-hour stand-off.

A crowd of more than 150 turned on officers from the as they executed search warrants on homes in Cumberland Rd and Normanby St, Auburn.

As officers entered a house in Cumberland Rd, a large crowd gathered and began taunting police before scuffles erupted.

Officers were forced to use capsicum spray to subdue the angry crowd, with the Pol Air helicopter and the riot squad called in to help. The crowd dispersed about 10pm.

Two men and a woman were last night arrested in relation to the search warrants and were being questioned.

Detective Inspector Michael Reynolds said officers seized two stun guns, a quantity of ecstasy, cannabis, a large quantity of cash, and a handgun.

The injured officer was taken to Concord Hospital where he received four stitches to a facial injury.

This is  pretty tame report compared to live eye reports from non Middle Eastern residents trying to go about their business in the affected suburb.

A group of Middle Eastern men has been labelled "cowardly" after pelting police with broken bottles during a stand-off in Sydney's west.

The Riot Squad was called in to break up a group of about 200 men who gathered at the corner of Weliington Road and Cumberland Road last night.

It followed raids on three homes by the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad, in connection to recent shootings in Sydney's south-west.

During one of the raids nearby residents accused police of injuring a woman as she and two men, aged 17 and 25, were arrested.

A senior police officer was allegedly attacked during the raid, requiring stitches for a cut nose. Locals rallied their friends using mobile phones, with a crowd of 150 gathering within minutes.

Officers called in the riot squad, Polair and the dog squad to try and disperse the aggressive crowd. Speaking to 2GB's Jason Morrison, Detective Superintendent Ken McKay has slammed those who threw bottles at police.

"They're nothing but cowardly criminals who fire up with other young people in the area." Former Police Officer Tim Priest said young men are being pressured into criminal activities by gangs in the area.

"You've got a core group of criminals that are just firing up young blokes who are on the verge of 'will I go the right way or will I go the wrong way'.

"At the moment, they're being pushed towards the wrong way."

So it was the NSW Police’s fault, Pious Muslims are entitled to deal drugs and trade in illegal weapons during  Ramadan without having to worry about been apprehended by those peskie Police type people.

It must be remembered that the suburb of Auburn, in what is now known as Sydney’s occupied territories,fell into the control of the Australian Labor Party sponsored, Islamic Colonialists, some 20 plus years ago,it is normal for Islamist to react the way they did on the evening of 8 9 09, when their illegal activities are seen to be under threat.
