BRITIAN'S top environmentalist wants to ration UK citizens to just a few airplane trips per year in an attempt to reduce CO2 emissions.

Independent Committee on Climate Change chairman Adair Turner – who advises UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown – made the proposal to parliament’s Environmental Audit Select Committee.

Mr Turner said in his proposal: “We will have to constrain demand in an absolute sense with people not allowed to make as many journeys as they could in an unconstrained manner.”

However, the proposal was condemned by air travel coalition FlyingMatters, who said: “One always suspects with these half-baked proposals that the people who put them forward really intend them to apply to ordinary people, many of whom have only recently gained access to air travel, rather than to themselves.”

This Loon should never be permitted to travel any where in the world by any means other than FOOT, I am sure he she will welcome my suggestion should he she receive it, I mean what better way to show the world your own personal commitment to the environment.

Let’s imagine that we all live the Agenda 21 way.

We own no land. We have no guns. We have no vote. Our children are the property of a global government taught by NGO agents called Career Certification Specialists, and God is outlawed and a thing of the past.

We are assigned to employers who are assigned to our settlement territories. There is no local government and there are no counties or cities. We are barred from large forests, natural fresh waters, and beachfront properties, which are all owned by businesses and used, tax free, by their families and friends.

The population of what was once American people, is now squeezed into settlement communities in the center of the country. The wealthy live in mega-mansions, and conservation easements, corridors, and buffer zones separate us from them. The mountains and large forested areas of the country are strictly off limits to Mid-North American people (M-NAPs), and corporate government owns all land and watershed systems.

We drive less and less as government security and the Real ID denies more and more driver’s licenses for more and more reasons. The cut-off age for driver’s licenses is lowered to 60 and the driving age is raised to following compulsory military service, but all driving is restricted to 25 miles a week. Then 20. Then 15, and so forth.

Employers send trams to pick us up for work and drop us off. That will come out of our paychecks, but enforced non-pollution is just that – enforced.

Via nano-technology and widespread RFID use, all pretense of privacy will leave our imaginations, and we become a highly managed species to find, punish, eavesdrop upon, and watch (Sub-dermal chipping was tested on grazing animals, then dogs, and chipping centers are now open for business in Florida and being tested on senior citizens. Children will be next under the guise of security/anti-kidnapping technology, and then banking rights will require chipping).

As we become ill more frequently, living in such close and small quarters, we are given the medical care that the government deems appropriate, and NGO governing boards determine the definition of human quality of life. Remember that human life is to be reduced by 40-75% depending upon which U.N. conservation partners you listen to.

At least 50% of the North American continent is off limits to Homo Sapiens. Between the government and large land trusts, more than half of American land is already in their hands.

Species of large mammals are repopulated. Wolves and cougars, mountain lions and bears guard the wilderness areas to ensure that people keep away. All wilderness areas are now the private property of corporate government. Watch for fencing.

International conglomerations, which are partnered with international conservation/land trusts, and all partnered with the United Nations, are the holders and keepers of land stolen by complex business schemes. Those conglomerations and their partnerships, which “control” and “aid” and “create” the conservation strategy of all life on Earth and are the self-proclaimed custodians of all living ecosystems, are historically, and remain the largest polluters on Earth. Their leadership and their partners are all multi-millionaires and billionaires.

All children, following 10-12 years of indoctrination, are soldiers. All women are rated for limited reproductive rights and licenses will be issued for reproductive rights. The mentally or physically damaged are eliminated. All income is reduced to under 20K per year, and American suburbia is leveled and rebuilt into business and trade corridors.

The Mexican and Canadian borders are dissolved. Martial law is implemented to keep the peace and to put down all attempted uprisings. Troublemakers will be killed or removed from the general population and placed into determent camps, which are currently readied and staffed.

The sick, infirmed, and the children of troublemakers will become wards of the state. Some will be re-engineered and some will be put down.

Now, why would all this happen to the human population? Why would big business and the largest banks in the world ever conceive of such a plan? Why, to protect nature, of course! That is what the U.N. has declared – and the World Bank and the World Trade Organization and the American government. And if you believe that, I’ve got some swampland to sell you, located in a U.N. Biosphere Reserve, which is surrounded by a conservation easement, which is surrounded by a buffer zone (the politically correct term for de-militarized zone) in deed-restricted Florida, which is actually owned by the corporation of Florida, under the CEO Governor-General.

Just keep telling yourselves – we elected them – we elected them.

VICTORIA has suffered the most tragic bushfire disaster to have occurred on this continent throughout its period of human habitation.

The deaths, loss of homes and businesses and the blow to our feeling of security will take decades to fade into history. The trauma will live with the victims, who, to a greater or lesser extent, are all of us.

How could this happen when we have been told in a withering, continuous barrage of public relations that with technology and well-polished uniforms, we can cope with the unleashing of huge forces of nature.

I have been a bushfire scientist for more than 50 years, dealing with all aspects of bushfires, from prescribed burning to flame chemistry, and serving as supervisor of fire weather services for Australia. We need to understand what has happened so that we can accept or prevent future fire disasters.

That this disaster was about to happen became clear when the weather bureau issued an accurate fire weather forecast last Wednesday, which prompted me, as a private citizen, to raise the alarm through a memo distributed to concerned residents.

The science is simple. A fire disaster of this nature requires a combination of hot, dry, windy weather in drought conditions. It also requires a source of ignition. In the past, this purpose has been served by lightning. In this disaster, lightning has not played a big part, and for this Victorians should be grateful. But other sources of ignition are ever-present. When the temperature and wind increase to extreme levels, small events -- perhaps the scrape of metal across a rock, a transformer overheating or sparks from a diesel engine -- are capable of starting a fire that can in minutes become unstoppable if the fuel is present.

The third and only controllable factor in this deadly triangle is fuel: the dead leaves, pieces of bark and grass that become the gas that feeds the 50m high flames that roar through the bush with the sound of jet engines.

Fuels build up year after year at an approximate rate of one tonne a hectare a year, up to a maximum of about 30 tonnes a hectare.

If the fuels exceed about eight tonnes a hectare, disastrous fires can and will occur. Every objective analysis of the dynamics of fuel and fire concludes that unless the fuels are maintained at near the levels that our indigenous stewards of the land achieved, then we will have unhealthy and unsafe forests that from time to time will generate disasters such as the one that erupted on saturday.

It has been a difficult lesson for me to accept that despite the severe damage to our forests and even a fatal fire in our nation's capital, the political decision has been to do nothing that will change the extreme threat to which our forests and rural lands are exposed.

The decision to ignore the threat has been encouraged by some shocking pseudo-science from a few academics who use arguments that may have a place in political discourse but should have no place in managing our environment and protecting it and us from the bushfire threat.

The conclusion of these academics is that high intensity fires are good for the environment and that the resulting mudslides after rains are merely localised and serve to redistribute nutrients. The purpose of this failed policy is to secure uninformed city votes.

Only a few expert retired fire managers, experienced bushies and some courageous politicians are prepared to buck the decision to lock up our bush and leave it to burn.

The politicians who willingly accept this rubbish use it to justify the perpetuation of the greatest threat to our forests, water supplies, homes and lives in order to secure a minority green vote. They continue to throw millions (and no doubt soon billions) at ineffective suppression toys, while the few foresters and bush people who know how to manage our public lands are starved of the resources they need to reduce fuel loads.

It is hard for me to see this perversion of public policy and to accept that the folk of the bush have lost their battle to live a safe life in a cared-for rural and forest environment, all because of the environmental fantasies of outraged extremists and latte conservationists.

In a letter to my local paper, the Weekly Times, on January 25, I predicted we were facing a very critical situation in which 1000 to 2000 homes could be lost in the Yarra catchment, the Otways and/or the Strezleckies; that 100 souls could be lost in a most horrible and violent way; and that there was even a threat to Melbourne's water supply, which could be rendered unusable by the ash and debris. Horrifically, much of this has come to pass, and it is not yet the end of the bushfire season.

In the face of this inferno, the perpetrators of this obscenity should have the decency to stand up and say they were wrong.

Southeast Australia is the worst place in the world for bushfires, and we must not waste any time in getting down to the task of making our bush healthy and safe.

But don't hold your breath. Do you hear that lovely sound the warbling pigs make as they fly by?

Victoria's bushfires have stirred memories of Canberra's own bushfire disaster just six years ago, raising the question: What has been learnt?

Bushfire and meteorology specialist David Packham, of Monash University in Melbourne, said nothing had changed in forest management since the Canberra 2003 fires and Victoria was suffering the consequences. ''The mismanagement of the south-eastern forests of Australia over the last 30 or 40 years by excluding prescribed burning and fuel management has led to the highest fuel concentrations we have ever had in human occupation,'' Mr Packham said.

''The state has never been as dangerous as what it is now and this has been quite obvious for some time. ''It is a recipe for the disaster that we have had.'' Mr Packham, who is a research fellow at Monash University's School of Geography and Environmental Science, said a ''God almighty brawl'' was about to erupt in Australia about how forests should be managed to reduce the risk of bushfires.
''There has been a total lack of willingness to instigate a proper fuel reduction management program based on the skills and understanding of indigenous people who, after all, for tens of thousands of years were the stewards of our environment,'' he said. ''We have thumbed our noses at what these people did and knew and we just can't keep on doing it.''
The director of the centre for environmental risk management of bushfires at the University of Wollongong, Professor Ross Bradstock, said now was not the time to speculate on what went wrong. ''There needs to be more sober appraisal to figure out exactly what's happened,'' he said. ''We know these very big destructive fires have occurred before in Victoria under very different eras of management.'' Professor Bradstock said scientific knowledge of bushfires was quite rudimentary.

He said, like Canberra in January 2003, the conditions in Victoria on Saturday were off the top of the fire danger scale. ''We actually have no formal scientific knowledge of the way fires behave in the upper part of the fire danger scale, let along off the top of the danger scale,'' he said. ''Yes, we have scientists and people working on the problem, but these are extraordinary phenomena and we don't fully comprehend them.'' Professor Bradstock said there was no prescribed burning solution which would totally eliminate risk of bushfire. ''Anything we do in terms fire management is about the reduction in risk,'' he said.

''Understanding the best use of resources to reduce risk is still a formidable challenge. We don't have all the answers.'' CSIRO bushfire researcher Andrew Sullivan said aerial shots of Marysville, depicting green street trees dotted among destroyed houses, reminded him of what he had seen in Canberra in 2003. ''It implies to me that what's happened is house-to-house spread after the fire front has gone through,'' he said. ''That's what happened in Canberra. Primarily the bushfire hit Eucumbene Drive and Warragamba Drive [Duffy] and spot fires started in the gardens of houses that lined those streets.'' Mr Sullivan said prior to Saturday, he would have said Australia was becoming better at dealing with bushfires.

MORE than one arsonist would have been responsible for several of the blazes which erupted in Victoria over the weekend, a fire criminologist believes.
About half of all bush fires in Australia are deliberately lit by fire bugs, Australian National University research fellow Dr Damon Muller said.

Given up to 400 fires hit Victoria over the weekend at varying locations across the state, Dr Muller believes more than one arsonist was at work.

"Without putting a figure on it, it would be surprising if some of them were not deliberately lit, just by virtue of the significant number,'' Dr Muller said.

"And by virtue of the diversity of locations there is probably a number of perpetrators.''

Federal Attorney General Robert McClelland said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's description of arsonists as "mass murderers'' in the circumstances was warranted and any offenders would be pursued with relevant murder charges.

"Anyone who lights fires deliberately, with reckless disregard for the safety of their fellow Australians, in our view establishes the requisite criminal intent that would sustain a charge of murder,'' Mr McClelland told parliament.

Police and CFA arson investigators are currently trying to identify the precise ignition points where fires at Churchill and several other locations began.

All fire areas where deaths have occurred have been designated by police as crime scenes - although only Churchill and the six houses lost at Narre Warren are suspected at this stage to have been deliberately lit.

The Kinglake and Marysville fires are assumed at this point to have been the result of natural disaster but the crime scene designation enables police to investigate whether arson was a factor.

Police Supt. Ross McNeil said it was important for forensic evidence to be preserved.

"We are calling them crime scenes so we can protect them to a high level,'' Supt McNeil said.

Arson detectives yesterday began their work to identify which fires may have been sparked - or re-lit by fire bugs.

In order to confirm a fire was deliberately lit, samples of burnt vegetation at the ignition points will be tested for the presence of any accelerant.

Investigators will also assess wind direction, speed of fire spread, any witness reports of suspicious activity in the area and weather reports tracking any lightning strikes in the vicinity.

Dr Muller said bushfire arsonists were typically male and likely to start fires on urban fringes.

Based on a study of previous prosecutions, Dr Muller said the typical arsonist had a history of low-level property and violence offences and generally came from a lower socio-economic status.

Arson in all its forms costs Australia $1.6 billion each year, Dr Muller found in a report released this month.

WHOLE towns have been declared crime scenes as the toll from Victoria's worst natural disaster leapt to 171.
But Premier John Brumby says the Victoria fires emergency will get worse before it gets any better.

"We've still got fires that are not contained," he said.

"There is a huge effort to get them under control.

"Tragically, we will have more deaths later this week."

There are fears the tragedy will have claimed more than 200 lives by the time police complete their searches of towns wiped out by the blazes.

The bushfire death toll has now reached 171 dead, a police spokeswoman confirmed about 1am this morning as police try to account for the people who perished in the fires.

Authorities say they are shocked by the sudden leap in numbers as more discoveries come to light, with early indications that the numbers leapt amid the discovery of clusters of bodies.

THIS is the crocodile suspected of killing a five-year-old boy. The 4m dominant male, known as Goldie or Yellowtail, is the prime suspect in a deadly croc attack that has shaken a tight-knit community on the Daintree north of Cairns.

Two other massive predators known as Scarface and Fat Albert have been ruled out as likely culprits after witnesses provided a detailed description of the killer.

Dad could not save his boy from croc

Jeremy Doble is missing feared dead after he was taken by a croc in front of his brother, Ryan, 7, whose terrified screams alerted their father who was working nearby. Daintree River tour guide Steve Doble threw himself into the croc-infested mangrove swamp in a brave attempt to save his son only to find he vanished without a trace.


Police said the father and son, who have lived on the river for five years and who have an intimate knowledge of the dominant aggressive male crocodiles in the river system, were able to identify the killer.

Yellowtail or Goldie is easily distinguished by its tell-tale bright yellow markings on its back and tail, and aggressive demeanour as the dominant territorial male near the attack site. Locals said they had seen the croc in recent weeks hiding in the mangroves away from the fast-flowing cold floodwaters.

The Doble family, who live on the river on a 12ha tourist property, were yesterday "too distressed" to speak publicly and were counselled by grief trauma experts. They have begged authorities not to kill or hurt the crocodile if it is trapped as part of a massive croc hunt.

"They do not want any harm to come to the croc and for it to be treated as humanely as possible," acting Inspector Jason Smith said. "They are very distressed, but have had some incredible support from the local community."
He said the description given by the boy's brother who witnessed the attack had "narrowed the likelihood down to one particular crocodile".

The two boys had been playing on a boogie board in a mangrove swamp behind their family home as their father Steve fixed a mangrove boardwalk nearby when tragedy struck about 9.15am on Sunday.

AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror.

US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".

The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine.

The posting — which instructs jihadis to remember "forest jihad" in summer months — says fires cause economic damage and pollution, tie up security agencies and can take months to extinguish so that "this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time".

"Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organisation were to claim responsibility for the forest fires," the website says. "You can hardly begin to imagine the level of fear that would take hold of people in the United States, in Europe, in Russia and in Australia."

With the nation heading into another hot, dry summer, Australian intelligence agencies are treating the possibility that bushfires could be used as a weapon of terrorism as a serious concern.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the Federal Government remained "vigilant against such threats", warning that anyone caught lighting a fire as a weapon of terror would feel the wrath of anti-terror laws.

"Any information that suggests a threat to Australia's interests is investigated by relevant agencies as appropriate," Mr McClelland said.

Adam Dolnik, director of research at the University of Wollongong's Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, said that bushfires (unlike suicide bombing) were generally not considered a glorious type of attack by jihadis, in keeping with a recent decline in the sophistication of terrorist operations.

"With attacks like bushfires, yes, it would be easy. It would be very damaging and we do see a decreasing sophistication as a part of terrorist attacks," Dr Dolnik said.

"In recent years, there have been quite a few attacks averted and it has become more and more difficult for groups to do something effective."

Dr Dolnik said he had observed an increase in traffic on jihadi websites calling for a simplification of terrorist attacks because the more complex operations had been failing. But starting bush fires was still often regarded as less effective than other operations because governments could easily deny terrorism as the cause.

The internet posting by the little-known group claimed the idea of forest fires had been attributed to imprisoned Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab Al-Suri. It said Al-Suri had urged terrorists to use sulphuric acid and petrol to start forest fires.

If the AGE is giving up their favourite Multiculturalists and terrorists, I would think this story has legs, although I expect it will be buried well and truly, by the Victorian state Labor government's Islamic suppression of free speech and thought department, staffed by Labor's favourite Islamist's and socialist Islamists sympathisers and apologists.

U.S. officials monitoring terrorist web sites have discovered a call for using forest fires as weapons against “crusader” nations, in what may explain some recent wildfires in places like southern California and Greece.

A terrorist website was discovered recently that carried a posting that called for “Forest Jihad.” The posting was listed on the Internet on Nov. 26 and reported in U.S. intelligence channels last week.

The statement, in Arabic, said that “summer has begun so do not forget the Forest Jihad.”

The writer called on all Muslims in the United States, Europe, Russia and Australia to “start forest fires.”

The posting quoted imprisoned Al Qaida terrorist Abu Musab Al-Suri, as saying “Jihad is an art just like poetry, music, and the fine arts. There are people that draw and there are others that are jihadists. They both act upon inspiration.”

Al-Suri is a senior Al Qaida leader captured in Pakistan in 2005 who is believed to be in U.S. custody.

“The idea of forest fires is attributed to him, may God set him free, as is in this short clip,” the writer stated.

The posting said that setting forest fires were legal under extremist Islamic law as part of a “eye for an eye” and that can produce “amazing results.”

Wildfires in California burned more than 500,000 acres beginning in October and authorities said arson was to blame for some of the fires. In August, wildfires broke out in Greece that authorities say were deliberately set.

The writer stated that it was permissible to burn trees in carrying out jihad.

“Scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands,” the writer said.

The writer stated that “targeted forests” are in the nations that “are at war with Muslims,” including the United States, Europe, Russia, and Australia.

Other nations, including Brazil are “off limits” because Brazil has not joined the “armies of the crusade.”

On damage caused by wildfires, the report said that the fires typically take months to put out which means that “this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time.”

The fires also will cause economic damage because it will limit exports of timber used to make furniture and also will cause losses to pharmaceutical companies that use trees for ingredients for drugs, the posting said.

Smoke caused by the fires will create pollution and military forces could be tied up fighting fires. The report noted that U.S. military forces in Iraq or Afghanistan “could even be recalled” as occurred following hurricane Katrina, which did not occur.

“Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organization were to claim responsibility for (starting) the forest fires,” the writer said. “You can hardly begin to imagine the level of the fear that would take hold of people in the United States, in Europe, in Russia, and in Australia.”

The report said that Abu Musab Al-Suri, urges terrorists to use sulphuric acid to start a forest fire, as well as gasoline.

AT least 65 people are dead in the bushfires ripping through Victoria in a disaster which has eclipsed the state's Ash Wednesday devastation of two decades ago.

Authorities are continuing a grim search for more bodies as horrific eyewitness accounts emerge from devastated communities. It was estimated at least 640 homes had been lost - 550 of them in the Kinglake area.

Victoria Police authorities had confirmed 65 deaths. But the final tolld could rise much higher as authorities move further into the affected towns.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced emergency relief funding for the state, saying "Hell in all its fury had visited ... many good people lie dead".

Whole towns have been destroyed and thousands of people left homeless with record temperatures and fierce winds sparking devastating infernos.

The town of Marysville was reported to have been wiped out, but the Country Fire Authority (CFA) said many residents had made it to emergency shelter in a local park.

More destruction and power blackouts are possible, with up to a dozen fires still burning out of control. And it has been reported that arsonists are suspected of relighting some fires after fire crews had brought them under control.

The worst bushfire to strike Victoria was the 1983 Ash Wednesday disaster when 47 people were killed in the state.

Most of the bodies were discovered in towns northeast of Melbourne - eight at Kinglake, six at Kinglake West, five each at St Andrews and Flowerdale, four each at Callignee and Wandong, three each at Humevalem, Taggerty and Hazelwood, two at Hazeldene and one each in Arthurs Creek, Strathewan, Upper Callignee, Jeealang, Long Gully, Yea and Bendigo.

At least six bodies were found in the one car at Kinglake, with reports that others may have been trying to escape the fire in cars.

Police have not yet given the gender or ages of the victims, but one Kinglake resident said three members of the same family, believed to include a 14-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy and an uncle, had died in the same house.

"It rained fire," another Kinglake resident told Sky News.

Strathewen resident Mary Avola said her husband of 43 years, Peter Avola, was among those killed. "He was behind me for a while and we tried to reach the oval but the gates were locked," she told Melbourne's Herald Sun.

"He just told me to go and that's the last time I saw him."

Firefighter Richard Hoyle described the scene as "a holocaust". "The road is riddled with burnt-out cars involved in multiple collisions and debris," he said.

Raylene Kincaide, of Narbethong, said her home had been destroyed and there was little left of the town. "Everyone we know has lost everything they had," she said on ABC radio.

More than 20 people have been admitted to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital with burns and three are in a critical condition. Seven of the injured have burns to more than 30 per cent of their bodies.

Premier John Brumby has described the disaster as "the worst day in our history". He called the bushfires "a monster that couldn't be controlled".

Pheasant Creek, Doreen, Yan Yean, Woodstock, Mernda, Mittons Bridge, Hurstbridge, St Andrews, Panton Hill, Arthurs Creek, Smiths

Gully, Christmas Hills, Healesville, Yarra Glen, Coldstream, Tarrawarra, Steels Creek, had been and still may be directly impacted upon by the fire.

From the hell of his Bangkok prison cell, the writer Harry Nicolaides reveals the horror of his daily battle to survive.

We are woken at 6 and counted in the cell. Mine is 12 metres long and just over four metres wide, holding 50 or 60 prisoners, mostly Thais, mostly murderers and rapists. The cell has one toilet, which is a hole in the ground, and poor ventilation. I sleep in a face mask because tuberculosis and pneumonia are common. I've been in this jail for five months, since my arrest in September.

My book, Verisimilitude, was a rather clumsy first attempt at fiction - only 50 copies were printed and seven sold. I love Thailand and respect the royal family. It was never my intention to offend anyone.

For breakfast I have soy milk and a biscuit. The prisoners wash and shave around troughs covered in grime. The water is changed once a week. Then there's assembly. We stand to attention as the Thai flag is raised. We're asked to pray to a large gold Buddha. I use the time to collect my thoughts and think about my loved ones.

The guards make long speeches in Thai. I imagine they're about prison etiquette.

I'm then taken upstairs with other foreigners to clean another cell block.

After that we're at leisure for a while. I used to walk around, but I can't help but encounter the weak and the feeble - such as men with TB, languishing on benches. It deadens me. So I try to spend my time replying to the many letters I receive. Letters keep me alive.

We are allowed one 30-minute visit a day, but not on weekends or holidays. The hardest part is returning to my cell after a visit from family or friends. I break down when I think how they're suffering.

At 12 the lunch bell rings. The food is mostly fish bones in hot water, extremely spicy, with rice. I've tried it and felt unwell.

I can't afford to fall sick - the mental strain is enough - so my family send me some chicken and a salad every day.

There are 20 or 25 cats that run into the mess hall before the prisoners. Some men put cigarettes in the cats' mouths or do other unspeakable things to them.

I am barefoot most of my day. It is partly a security measure so we can't climb the electrified, barbed-wire fence, and partly custom. But the floors are covered with fish bones, saliva and cat vomit, so my feet are black.

I am led to court in shackles and chains. It's positively medieval. They're degrading and they bruise and lacerate the ankles. They make you feel you're guilty.

They say that it is easy to get to someone in a prison like this, so I am always on the alert.

I have met some colourful characters, like Viktor Bout, the suspected Russian arms dealer. He's an unassuming, softly spoken man.

He gave me some garlic the other day - and a manuscript of his life story to edit. I haven't looked at it yet. Lots of people give me manuscripts about their lives and cases. They seem to think I'm a BBC journalist, of all things.

At 4pm we're locked up until 6am. My patch is about a foot wide, the length of my body. I cannot move to the left or right without pressing on another person. I cannot stretch out my legs without kicking someone.

On the king's 81st birthday I saw fireworks in the distance. Some prisoners had tears in their eyes, praising a man they regard not just as their king but their father. I may not be Thai, but I am a son, and I know what it means to love a father. I am applying for a royal pardon. I pray the king learns of my plight so I might enjoy his grace.

When I've finished my chicken, Thais beg for my scraps.

The fluorescent lights stay on at night, so I sleep with a box over my head. I toss and turn on a thin mat on the hard floor. And this, too, shall pass, other foreigners tell me. It's an old adage and true. But time passes very slowly here.
