A 20-Year Plan To Overthrow The U.S. Government

ISLAMISTS CANNOT WAGE all out war on the U.S. and expect to win. But they have a religious duty to try to wage jihad in some way and eventually conquer all countries, including the U.S. There are more devious ways to conquer than straightforward war, however. In the excerpt below, from an article by Anis Shorrosh, author of Islam Revealed, shares what he sees as the Islamists' 20-year plan to conquer the U.S. As you can see, many of these things are already being done.

1. Terminate America's freedom of speech by replacing it with statewide and nationwide hate-crime bills.

2. Wage a war of words using black leaders like Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jesse Jackson and other visible religious personalities who promote Islam as the religion of African-Americans while insisting Christianity is for whites only. What they fail to tell African-Americans is that it was Arab Muslims who captured them and sold them as slaves. In fact, the Arabic word for black and slave is the same, ''Abed.''

3. Engage the American public in dialogues, discussions, debates in colleges, universities, public libraries, radio, TV, churches and mosques on the virtues of Islam. Proclaim how it is historically another religion like Judaism and Christianity with the same monotheistic faith.

4. Nominate Muslim sympathizers to political office to bring about favorable legislation toward Islam and support potential sympathizers by block voting.

5. Take control of as much of Hollywood, the press, TV, radio and the Internet as possible by buying the related corporations or a controlling stock.

6. Yield to the fear of the imminent shut-off of the lifeblood of America – black gold. America’s economy depends on oil and 41 percent of it comes from the Middle East.

7. Yell ''foul, out-of-context, personal interpretation, hate crime, Zionist, un- American, inaccurate interpretation of the Quran'' anytime Islam is criticized or the Quran is analyzed in the public arena.

8. Encourage Muslims to penetrate the White House, specifically with Islamists who can articulate a marvelous and peaceful picture of Islam. Acquire government positions and get membership in local school boards. Train Muslims as medical doctors to dominate the medical field, research and pharmaceutical companies. (Ever notice how numerous Muslim doctors in America are, when their countries need them more desperately than America?) Take over the computer industry. Establish Middle Eastern restaurants throughout the U.S. to connect planners of Islamization in a discreet way.

9. Accelerate Islamic demographic growth via:

* Massive immigration (100,000 annually since 1961).

* Use no birth control whatsoever – every baby of Muslim parents is automatically a Muslim and cannot choose another religion later.

* Muslim men must marry American women and Islamize them (10,000 annually). Then divorce them and remarry every five years – since one can't legally marry four at one time. This is a legal solution in America.

* Convert angry, alienated black inmates and turn them into militants (so far 2,000 released inmates have joined al-Qaida worldwide). Only a few ''sleeper cells'' have been captured in Afghanistan and on American soil.

10. Reading, writing, arithmetic and research through the American educational system, mosques and student centers (now 1,500) should be sprinkled with dislike of Jews, evangelical Christians and democracy. There are currently 300 exclusively Muslim schools in the U.S. which teach loyalty to the Quran, not the U.S. Constitution. In January of 2002, Saudi Arabia’s Embassy in Washington mailed 4,500 packets of the Quran and videos promoting Islam to America's high schools – free of charge. Saudi Arabia would not allow the U.S. to reciprocate.

11. Provide very sizable monetary Muslim grants to colleges and universities in America to establish ''Centers for Islamic studies'' with Muslim directors to promote Islam in higher-education institutions.

12. Let the entire world know through propaganda, speeches, seminars, local and national media that terrorists have hijacked Islam, when in truth, Islam hijacked the terrorists.

13. Appeal to the historically compassionate and sensitive Americans for sympathy and tolerance towards Muslims in America who are portrayed as mainly immigrants from oppressed countries.

14. Nullify America's sense of security by manipulating the intelligence community with misinformation. Periodically terrorize Americans with reports of impending attacks on bridges, tunnels, water supplies, airports, apartment buildings and malls.

15. Form riots and demonstrations in the prison system demanding Islamic Sharia as the way of life, not America's justice system.

16. Open numerous charities throughout the U.S., but use the funds to support Islamic terrorism with American dollars.

17. Raise interest in Islam on America's campuses by insisting freshman take at least one course on Islam.

18. Unify the numerous Muslim lobbies in Washington, mosques, Islamic student centers, educational organizations, magazines and papers by Internet and an annual convention to coordinate plans, propagate the faith and engender news in the media.

19. Send intimidating messages and messengers to the outspoken individuals who are critical of Islam and seek to eliminate them by hook or crook.

20. Applaud Muslims as loyal citizens of the U.S. by spotlighting their voting record as the highest percentage of all minority and ethic groups in America.

A woman pushing a child in a pram has been robbed at knifepoint and hit in the face in Sydney's south.

The 31-year-old woman was approached by two men while pushing a child in a pram along Toronto Parade, Sutherland, at about 5.15pm (AEDT) on Sunday.

One of the two men threatened her with a knife and demanded money.

The woman handed over a small amount of cash and was then hit in the face, which caused swelling, police say.

The men then ran from the scene.

Both men have been described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance with short dark hair, aged in their 20s, and of a slim build.

One of the men had a "rat's tail" in his hair, police said.

Police are calling on any member of the public with information about the assault to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A RADICAL Muslim preacher - who has likened Jews to pigs, denounced Christians and urged children to die for their

religion - is teaching Islam to young followers in Sydney after years in exile in the Middle East.

Despite Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd previously telling Sheik Feiz Mohammed never to return to Australia, the firebrand

is delivering sermons at the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah centre in Auburn.

NSW police told The Sunday Telegraph they were monitoring Sheik Feiz, who has a reputation worldwide as an

inflammatory preacher.

"We maintain an ongoing relationship with him and other members of the local community as part of our community

engagement program," a police spokesman said.

"NSW Police Force will only take an interest in teachings by members of the community if they promote breaking the

law."

The Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah centre, of which he is the full-time Amir, is on Auburn Rd behind the Bakhiri Book Store,

which sells religious texts and other artefacts.

The Sydney-born cleric and former champion boxer created a furore in 2007 when his Death Series DVDs were uncovered

by the The Daily Telegraph.

In them he likened Jews to "pigs" and urged Muslim children to become martyrs.

"Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid [holy warrior].

Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom," the Sheik said in one taped sermon.

In another lecture, he said "every single non-Jew is a slave created to serve the Jew", adding that "their time will come

like every other evil person's time will come".
The comments provoked outrage with then opposition foreign spokesman Mr Rudd, who said: "I would say this to Sheik

Mohammed: Do not return to Australia, you are not welcome here."

At the time Sheik Feiz, who preaches with a strong Australian accent, was living in Lebanon and running by proxy the

Global Islamic Youth Centre in Liverpool, which was raided by the AFP as part of its investigation into him.

Mr Rudd yesterday said of his return: "If he was found to have contravened laws, he would be subject to appropriate law

enforcement."

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Sheik Feiz has been accused of being linked to a political sabotage campaign on

the streets of Auburn.

Candidate Jamal Daoud, who is standing in the state election, complained to authorities that campaign posters had been

stripped from shop windows by the Sheik's followers. "They told everybody that democracy is not permitted," Mr Daoud

said.

A spokesman for the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah Association of Australia said his sermons would be religious teachings

that would promote peace "as all religions do".

Sheik Mohammed did not return calls, however Samil Dandan, the president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, said

Sheik Feiz was a changed man and should not be judged on his past.

WHEN you think about it, Sheik Hilaly has done us a favour. For one thing, his recently translated sermon, declaring

women as Satan's agents who incite rape with immodest dress, has at last provoked Australia's moderate Muslims to find

a strong voice, as they lined up last week to condemn the mufti.

"His comments imply we've got no sense of right and wrong," said Mustapha Kara-Ali, the youth representative on the

Prime Minister's Muslim community reference group.

As well, by revealing so unequivocally his primitive views of women, Hilaly destroyed the claims by cultural relativists

that Sydney's series of gang rapes by Muslim men had nothing to do with culture or religion.

"If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street ... without a cover and the cats eat it, is it the fault of the cat or

the uncovered meat?" he said in the sermon to 500 people last month at Lakemba mosque. "The uncovered meat is the

problem. If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won't get it ...

if the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she's wearing the veil and if she shows modesty, disasters don't

happen."

Then in a clear reference to the gang rape trial of Bilal Skaf, he said: "A woman possesses the weapon of seduction. It is

she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect

us ... then it's a look, then a smile, then a conversation ... then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then Long Bay

jail. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years."

The only incitement committed by 18-year-old Ms C, who was raped 25 times by up to 14 men including Skaf in 2000, was

being Australian. Sitting on a train, dressed for a job interview in her best suit, and reading The Great Gatsby, she was a

slut, an "Aussie pig" as they called her later, while boasting: "I'm going to f--- you Leb style."

"I looked in his eyes. I had never seen such indifference," she said.

Hilaly was simply echoing what the father of four Pakistani-born gang-rapists from Ashfield once said of the young

victims: "What do they expect to happen to them? Girls from Pakistan don't go out at night."

Hilaly's younger, Australian-born counterparts have been saying the same thing for years.

"A victim of rape every minute somewhere in the world," Sheik Feiz Mohammad told 1000 people at Bankstown Town Hall

last year. "Why? No one to blame but herself. She displayed her beauty to the entire world ... strapless, backless,

sleeveless, nothing but satanic skirts, slit skirts, translucent blouses."

Egyptian-born Hilaly may have been escalating his rhetoric to shore up support as extremist groups such as the Islamic

Youth Movement encroach on his territory.

It is worth remembering that terrorism experts have regarded Hilaly as a moderating influence, and Singapore-based

Rohan Gunaratna described him as "a mild man, compared to others".

Reports yesterday that Hilaly's planned deportation in 1986 was stopped by none other than the former member for

Bankstown, Paul Keating, and that a public servant lost his job for trying to stand up to the political interference, are

certainly frustrating.

But Hilaly, who claimed in a 2004 sermon in Lebanon, "I have four wives and plenty of children", is an Australian citizen

now. Deportation is not an option.

Moreover, in the rush to banish the mufti, people should realise that whoever replaces him might be worse, as a new

generation of radical firebrands emerges who have long fought Hilaly for control of the influential mosque.

Sometimes pragmatism favours the devil you know.

'Jihad' sheik to face new probe

THE firebrand cleric who went overseas just days before some of his cohorts were rounded up in the nation's biggest

counter-terrorism raid is the subject of a new police investigation, after a call for children to join jihad as holy warriors

appeared in a DVD being sold in Australia.

Sydney-born Sheik Feiz Mohamed's radical sermons - available on the internet and on DVDs and videos - have become

popular with Muslims around the world.

In one video, running on the hugely popular website YouTube, he admonishes his followers in English for not "sacrificing a

drop of blood" as martyrs.

Australian Federal Police said yesterday they had begun inquiries into Sheik Feiz's DVD encouraging jihad, which is

believed to be unclassified in Australia and illegal to sell.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma accused the cleric yesterday of inciting terrorism.

"This DVD goes a lot further than vilification," he said. "The sort of incitement that the DVD encourages is incitement to

acts of violence and acts of terror."

Sheik Feiz, a member of Sunni Islam's fundamentalist Wahhabi sect, left Australia for Lebanon in late 2004, just days

before federal and state police and ASIO conducted raids in Sydney and Melbourne, arresting 23 people on terror-related

charges.

The cleric calls two of the accused terrorists close friends and knew all of the Sydney men arrested. He has links to

almost every notable member of Australia's Islamic community and continues to direct his Global Islamic Youth Centre -

the nerve centre of Islamic youth in Sydney, setting the tone for 4000 youths, their families and fraternities.

Along with Sheik Mohammed Omran in Melbourne and Sydney's Sheik Abdul Salem Mohammed Zoud, he is considered one

of Australia's leading radical clerics. Unlike Sheik Omran and Sheik Zoud, Sheik Feiz preaches in English with a strong

Australian accent rather than Arabic.

In the video running on YouTube, which could not be dated, he criticises Muslims in Australia for not sacrificing their

blood as martyrs and for putting lifestyle ahead of action in response to massacres of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq and

Palestine.

"In our times it is the fear of death, the fear of sacrificing your finger, your toe, a drop of blood that is more honourable

than anything else," he says.

"Why? Because martyrdom to us is, is not as appealing to us, as it was to those ancestors, the great warriors ... who

lived around the best creature that walked the earth, Mohammed."

The YouTube video follows revelations in a British documentary that Sheik Feiz's collection of DVDs - called the Death

Series - were being sold by children in the car park of a mosque in the British city of Birmingham.

In that and another series called Signs of the Hour, made about four years ago, Sheik Feiz labelled Jews "pigs" and

exhorted children to jihad.

"We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam," he says. "Teach them this: there is nothing more

beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid. Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of

martyrdom."

In an exclusive interview with The Australian, Sheik Feiz said that every one of those remarks could be put in context.

"The jihad I speak of is not one of violence," he said. "It is one of personal struggle against things like mischievousness,

temptation and personal harm. I have never advocated violence against Australians or anyone embracing the Australian

way of life. I have never called for people to be harmed. If anyone fights you for what you are, you defend yourself.

"I don't believe in suicide bombing, I don't believe in violence against others. We don't invite that, we don't encourage

that. We denounce that. This is not Islamic law and it is not moral."

He said he regretted the remark about Jews being pigs and said this was made in the days following the images of a

young Palestinian, Mohammed al-Dura, being pinned down with his father in crossfire in Gaza in 2002. The boy was killed

and the images became an enduring propaganda tool for the Palestinians during the intifada years.

"That remark was made in the heat of the moment and I regret it," Sheik Feiz said. "It was not something I should have

said and is not something I believe."

B'nai B'rith Anti-defamation Commission chairman Michael Lipshutz said the Muslim community as a whole had to publicly

distance itself from anti-Semitic individuals and organisations.

However, Muslim youth representative Fadi Rahman said the reaction to the four-year-old video that authorities have

been aware of for nearly as long was an example of prejudice against the Muslim community.

"This is what tells us we will never fit in no matter what we do," he said. "It's telling the kids they're always going to be

marginalised."

Acting Attorney-General Kevin Andrews said the matter was being investigated by the relevant authorities.

"It's offensive to the Australian people, it's reprehensible, it's particularly outrageous that certain groups in Australia,

such as the Jewish community, have been highlighted in these comments and we condemn the comments," he said.

Experts believe the DVD material - recorded in 2004 - would escape federal sedition laws, which were passed in 2005 as

part of the federal Government's terrorism legislation, but may fall foul of other laws.

University of NSW law lecturer Andrew Lynch said NSW racial vilification legislation might apply to Sheik Feiz's

description of Jews as pigs, and the videos could be in breach of the federal criminal code, which prohibits incitement to

commit an offence.

While the Mufti of Australia, Taj Din al-Hilali, sparked national outrage by comparing scantily clad women to uncovered

meat, Sheik Feiz once told a meeting at Bankstown, in Sydney's southwest Muslim heartland, that indecently dressed

women were setting themselves up for rape.

CONVICTED killer Bassam Hamzy will not be allowed to speak Arabic in the state's Supermax jail and will remained banned from the general prison population following a Supreme Court decision yesterday.

Hamzy argued in a Supreme Court hearing last year that banning him from communicating in his native tongue was discriminatory and that he should be allowed to return to the general prison population.

The 32-year-old also believed it was unfair he was being kept in isolation for 23 hours a day without a segregation order being made under the Crimes Act and had been ordered to speak and write only in English.

Corrective Services said Hamzy's arrangements were not because of discrimination, but for "the purpose of the care, control or management of the inmate or group of inmates".

"[Hamzy] contested the Notice of Motion unsuccessfully," Justice Peter Johnson said in his decision to dismiss the claim yesterday.

 

Whilst I have no inside information, I bet that Ron Woodham, boss of NSW Prisons, had a part in this prosecution,he is what Australia needs as PM, to defend Australia from the ever increasing Islamic Menace that Australia faces daily.

He ensured that the effete “Pious Muslim” Bilal Skaf, leader of Sydney’s “Occupied Territories” (South Western Sydney),Muslim rape gang’s,was made aware of who did run his prison system upon his arrival and been placed into the care of the NSW Prisons, according to Ron, Bilal tends to cry whenever he is brought to heel.

RARELY has a state visit to the US by an Australian prime minister achieved as little as has been delivered by Julia Gillard after her meeting with President Barack Obama.

Lame ducks larking in the Oval Office can't fool all the people all of the time.

A football lesson in the Oval Office, a lecture on Vegemite, and a saccharine speech to a joint sitting of Congress that only served to underscore her own monumental history of political backflips.

It didn't help, either, that her arrival in Washington coincided with the release of a Newspoll showing she had scored the greatest rise in personal dissatisfaction (12 points) of any prime minister in the polling organisation's history.

But it might have given her something to talk about with Obama as he pulled off his own greatest backflip, a reversal of his plans to close the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay.

This was at the absolute core of Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, much the same as Gillard's "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" promise was front-and-centre in her bid for election.

Gillard has not seen the folly of her ways. Obama may be a hopeless president but he learnt a lesson in this instance. Gillard shows absolutely no sign that she has learnt anything.

She was cheered when she addressed a joint sitting of Congress but it may have helped that her audience knew little about her.

Gillard was in full gush mode by the time she wound up her address, telling her listeners that on the centenary of President Ronald Reagan's birth, "he remains a great symbol of American optimism. The only greater symbol of American optimism is America itself".

Had her audience only known that when Reagan was president, Gillard was a leading member of the management committee of the Socialist Forum, a radical group of activists including many former members of the Communist Party, who were largely united in their hatred of the US.

There could hardly be a greater contrast between Gillard and Reagan. He stood for lower taxes and stronger defence, she stands for higher taxes and presides over a defence force that is unable to put a ship or submarine to sea and has lost its fighter-bomber air capacity.

Reagan took on the union movement, defeating striking air traffic controllers and presiding over employment growth and rebuilding America after President Jimmy Carter's failed experiments.

Gillard has given the union movement a free hand to once again rebuild and destroy Australian small businesses and stifle individual enterprise.

Gillard and Obama are in many ways kindred spirits, disastrously reliving their days as student politicians as their policies wreak havoc upon their nations.

Fortunately, in both cases, the people - even those who were among their staunchest supporters - are starting to wake up.

The polls tell the story for Gillard; a more subtle message was delivered to Obama at the White House this week when it was revealed that there had been almost no entries for a high school competition to win the President as the commencement day speaker.

He is apparently so unpopular that just 14 schools initially entered the competition compared with 1000 applicants last year.

Gillard and Obama, birds of a feather - lame ducks (and there's no threat implied and no animals have been harmed in the creation of this column).

Obama is great at presentation and oratory, Gillard fails on both scores - and both are dead in the water when it comes to policy delivery.

Duds.

One could only feel sympathy for former Opposition leader Kim Beazley - an honest, scholarly and thoughtful person, now Australian ambassador to Washington - as Gillard paraded through town, and conclude that her cheering audience must have been drinking Charlie Sheen's tiger blood cocktails.

I agree with most of what Julia Gillard said in her address to the joint sitting of Congress,the content of her address indicated a complete reversal of the Australian Labor Party’s, and indeed her own long stated dislike of all things American.

It was possibly the first time that she has enunciated the views and sentiments of the vast majority of the Australian people, she appears to have turned her back on her past twenty plus years of Anti American ,anti Judeo Christian Democracy and anti Capitalism activism.

I would not be the only Australian who remembers clearly her days as the “angry young rabid Marxist student organizer”frothing at the mouth denouncing all that is American and Australian,demanding the end of the ANZUS Treaty the removal of American bases etc etc etc.

She has not explained why she was engaging in photo ops in front of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington our own Australian Vietnam vets were been told her government could not afford to present their medals personally so they would be posted to them. (Battle of Long Than veterans)

It would not be unreasonable to ask Madame Gillard has she been lieing these past twenty years or was her address to the joint sitting of Congress a lie ?

UK soldier, loyal dog, make final journey

THE body of a British soldier shot dead in Afghanistan was being flown home today, alongside the loyal dog who died of a
seizure after his master was killed.
Lance Cpl Liam Tasker, a dog handler with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, was killed in a firefight with insurgents in
Helmand Province last week. Theo, his bomb-sniffing springer spaniel, suffered a fatal seizure hours later at a British
army base.

The 26-year-old soldier and the dog had been in Afghanistan for six months, uncovering roadside bombs. In February, the
defence ministry announced that Theo had been so successful - finding 14 hidden bombs - that his tour of duty had been
extended by a month.
Tasker's squadron commander, Maj Caroline Emmett, said the soldier and Theo "were made for each other".
"He and his dog had more operational finds than any individual team has had in Afghanistan to date and he saved many
lives as a result of this," she said.
Tasker's body was being flown back to an air force base in England today on a flight also carrying the ashes of Theo.
The cortege carrying Tasker is due to pass through the town of Wootton Bassett, where local people line the streets in a
mark of respect each time a dead solder is repatriated.
The Ministry of Defence said Theo's ashes would be presented to Tasker's family later at a private ceremony.
Tasker was the 358th British soldier to die in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion. Theo was the sixth British
military dog killed in Iraq or Afghanistan since 2001.

Hicks and wife Aloysia mingled with the likes of Premier Kristina Keneally and NSW Governor Marie Bashir at the Elizabeth Bay launch of Stories From The Wayside, a book by    The Wayside Chapel's Reverend Graham Long, Hicks' pastor.

DAVID Hicks praised Osama bin Laden as "lovely" in letters read to a court as a magistrate considered the conditions of a control order to be placed on the former Guantanamo Bay detainee.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) today used the six-year-old letters to argue the 32-year-old terrorism supporter remained a perceived threat to Australia.

But although they say the letters are out of date and he poses no threat, Hicks's lawyers today did not oppose the AFP's application to the Federal Magistrates Court for Australia's second control order.

Hicks will be released from Adelaide's Yatala prison on December 29 after serving out his US-imposed sentence for providing material support for terrorism.

AFP lawyer Andrew Berger today asked that as part of a control order Hicks be forced to attend a police station three times a week and stick to a midnight to 6am curfew, among other conditions.[...}

Oh, well, then, nothing to be concerned about!

Arguing for the control order, Mr Berger said Hicks had admitted taking part in four al-Qaida training camps between January 2001 and August 2001, a month before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York.

Hicks undertook "substantial training" in basic arms and combat training, guerilla warfare and advanced marksmanship, he told the court.

Mr Berger said there was a "plethora of evidence" against Hicks, including letters he sent to his family in Adelaide while training with al-Qaida.

In one, Hicks wrote: "By the way, I have met Osama bin Laden 20 times now, lovely brother, everything for the cause of Islam. The only reason the west calls him the most wanted Muslim is because he's got the money to take action."

Hicks also described himself as a "fit, young Muslim, ready to defend Islam", and in another letter wrote of the "poison" of the west, which he said was trying to crush Islam.

"Jihad is still valid to this day," he wrote.

Australians tell Madame Gillard, Australia’s Socialist Liar for Hire PM just how popular she really is, whilst fellow Socialist Hussein Obama sings her praises.

 

Every day it is becoming clearer just how much of a mess Labor is in.

Five days before the last election Julia Gillard promised: “There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead.” Now, with Ms Gillard caving in to the Greens and breaking her promise, Australians face a new tax and extra pressure on family budgets.

At a time when Australians are already doing it tough, Labor’s carbon tax will unnecessarily lift electricity, grocery and petrol prices and attack jobs in our key industries.

In a major address delivered in Adelaide last night, Tony Abbott warned of the cost of Labor’s carbon tax.

He said:

“Even at $26 a tonne, a carbon tax would add an average of $300 a year to electricity bills (and $500 in NSW). It would add 6.5 cents to the cost of a litre of petrol. At this rate, a carbon tax would raise about $10 billion a year without materially reducing emissions because consumers have previously absorbed price rises of this magnitude.

“A carbon tax of about $25 a tonne would close 16 coal mines and cost 10,000 jobs in coal mining (according to Access Economics). It would cost 24,000 jobs in mining generally (according to ACIL). It would cost 45,000 jobs in emissions-intensive industries (according to Frontier Economics). It’s “economic vandalism” according to the head of Bluescope Steel that will drive manufacturing jobs offshore.

“A carbon tax would add 25 per cent to the price of electricity and up to five per cent to the cost of groceries because power and transport costs are embedded in the price.”

For Labor and the Greens the only answer is tax, tax, tax.

The Coalition knows there is a better way. Our direct action plan on climate change is economically responsible and won’t cost Australian jobs.

Read the following analogy and you will realize the insignificance of carbon dioxide as a weather controller.

Here's a practical way to understand Julia Gillard Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

Imagine 1 kilometer of atmosphere and we want to get rid of the carbon pollution in it created by human activity.  Let's go for a walk along it.

The first 770 meters are Nitrogen.

The next 210 meters are Oxygen.

That's 980 meters of the 1 kilometer.  20 meters to go.

The next 10 meters are water vapour.  10 meters left.

9 meters are argon.   Just 1 more meter.

A few gases make up the first bit of that last meter.

The last 38 centimeters of the kilometer - that's carbon dioxide.  A bit over one foot.

97% of that is produced by Mother Nature.  It’s natural.

Out of our journey of one kilometer, there are just 12 millimeters left.  Just over a centimeter - about half an inch.

That’s the amount of carbon dioxide that global human activity puts into the atmosphere.

And of those 12 millimeters Australia puts in .18 of a millimeter.

Less than the thickness of a hair.  Out of a kilometer!

As a hair is to a kilometer - so is Australia 's contribution to what Julia Gillard calls Carbon Pollution.

Imagine Brisbane 's new Gateway Bridge , ready to be opened by Julia Gillard. It's been polished, painted and scrubbed by an army of workers till its 1 kilometer length is surgically clean. Except that Julia Gillard says we have a huge problem, the bridge is polluted - there's a human hair on the roadway. We'd laugh ourselves silly.

There are plenty of real pollution problems to worry about.

It's hard to imagine that Australia 's contribution to carbon dioxide in the world's atmosphere is one of the more pressing ones.  And I can't believe that a new tax on everything is the only way to blow that pesky hair away.

Pass this on quickly while the ETS is being debated in Federal Parliament.

IT felt like too nice a day to say goodbye. The clouds had parted to let the autumn sun shine through, the wind was gentle and faraway surf crashed.

High on a bluff on Kangaroo Island, overlooking a sparkling blue sea, the younger sister of Sapper Jamie Larcombe read a poem farewelling her beloved brother, her voice catching on emotion and tears.

Sapper Larcombe was killed in Afghanistan two weeks ago.

 

 

 

"I miss being your little sister," Emily Larcombe began. "I miss hearing the sound of your voice. I wish I got to say I love you before you were given to the sky."

On a day when the heroism and valour of Sapper Larcombe, of the 1st Combat Engineer Regiment, was commemorated at his funeral service, it was the voice of his family that brought the devastating loss of war home to the 1000 people gathered at Flagstaff Hill on Kangaroo Island. Sapper Larcombe's three sisters all read poems in honour of their brother as his parents Steven and Tricia looked on. The pain and the grief was in their voices and words, and in the hush of those who had gathered to pay their respects to the 23rd Australian to die far from home, fighting a ruthless enemy in Afghanistan.

They came from everywhere to say goodbye. Climbing the hill from Kingscote were the young and the old, the workers and the retired, those who never knew Jamie Larcombe and those who'd known him forever.

There was Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, Defence Minister Stephen Smith and Acting Premier John Rau.

It was a sad and solemn day but there were moments of lightness and laughter when family friend Ted Speed delivered the eulogy for Sapper Larcombe.

There were old tales of horse rides gone wrong, motorbikes that had crashed, injuries to sisters.

Mr Speed spoke of the gratitude that Sapper Larcombe's long-time girlfriend Rhiannon Penhall had been able to speak to her boyfriend less than 24 hours before he was killed. He told the life story of a boy who became a man who was widely loved and respected. A fanatical Crows supporter, a keen fisherman who always got seasick, a member of the Country Fire Service who lived by the motto "Give it a Go".

His hero was Crows' legend Andrew McLeod. Larcombe sported McLeod's number 23 when playing for the Western Districts Football Club and Mr Speed noted the irony that Sapper Larcombe was the "23rd Australian to pay the ultimate price in Afghanistan". "Jamie left me in no doubt that he fought for what he believed in and he believed in what he fought for," Mr Speed said. "He was courageous, he was strong and a caring young man."

Sapper Larcombe grew up in the small community of Parndana. Fittingly, it was established as a soldiers' settlement after World War II and features the Soldiers Settlement Museum. All his schooling was done in Parndana and he graduated from the local area school in 2007.

He joined the army in 2008 and he was killed four months into his first tour of Afghanistan. Brigade Commander Gus McLauchlin told the crowd that sappers such as Larcombe were the heart and soul of the regiment. Often dirty, regularly cheeky, most likely to be found in the pub, the sappers of the 1st Combat Engineering Regiment also took on the most dangerous jobs the army had to offer.

The regiment had a motto that said simply: "Follow the Sapper".

On the day he was killed, Sapper Larcombe was at the head of a mission that was forging into the Taliban strongholds in the Mirabad Valley, not far from Tarin Kowt, to establish forward bases for Australian and Afghan forces . His job was to clear improvised explosive devices from the way ahead to make the route safe for others to follow.

Sapper Larcombe was doing his job when he was cut down by Taliban gunfire in an ambush. As Anzac Day approaches, Brigadier McLauchlin reminded us that: "He shall not grow old as those that are left behind grow old. Age will not weary him, or the years condemn.

 

"Whoever reads the Ode this year is talking about Jamie Larcombe. We will remember him just as he is for the rest of our lives."

WHAT she finds ... is beauty.
A serenity, a peacefulness in her life that wasn't there before.
"When I put the scarf on," she says, "I have never felt so beautiful in my whole, entire life."
What a feeling it must be.
A young woman, bright-eyed and true, brought up in the backyards of Australia. It was a childhood of touch football and hockey, of summer afternoons and big family Christmases.
Typical, you might call it.
And now she is a young mum, with four bouncing kids, and a husband and a life she nearly missed - and every day she prays and gives thanks for it. And all because she is now a Muslim.
It hits you like it hits everybody when they learn Rebecca Kay's choice.
Just last weekend a friend from her former hometown of Kiama came to visit her at home in Bankstown. She noticed the scarf and couldn't help but ask.
"But you're Australian," she said. "I know," she said.
"But why are you Muslim for?" was the response.
For many traditional Australians, the two are mutually exclusive. You cannot be both.
It is part of the misunderstanding about Islam, muddied by extremists and ignorance and all the very worst behaviour there is in all of us but which we often refuse to admit.
What is true is that fewer and fewer Australians are converting to Islam. When the planes went into the towers on September 11, 2001, Islam and the world changed forever.
What official figures there are for Australian converts, held by the Muslim Women's Association, are closely guarded and, even then, not entirely accurate.
"They can do it [convert] without even going to the mosque," says Keysar Trad, a Muslim spokesman.
"They can do it in a private ceremony at home. They can do it anywhere.
"But one thing I have found is even though there are a lot of people saying in the last nine years that there's a lot more interest in Islam, there were more people [converting] before we got so much publicity.
"The private interest changed to 'Can we tolerate Muslims' rather than 'Is this a way of life for us?'."
For Rebecca, the easy explanation is that her interest changed when she met her husband, Abdul Latf Darwiche, known as Albert.
Not that it changed quickly. Or easily. She is not the kind who does it the easy way.
From a family of high achievers - her mother Marie holds three world Masters records, her father John also represents Australia in Masters competition - she was similarly strong-willed.
She lived the young life, which is one of excess.
"The path I was going down before wasn't a great path," she says.
"I was a typical Australian that liked going out and drinking five nights a week.
"It kind of gets depressing over time."
For Marie and John, unable to curb their daughter's behaviour, it grew increasingly worrying. Until she met Albert and began asking his sisters about Islam.
"I give all my gratification to Albert for putting her back on the right road," Marie says. "It works both ways."
They met during Ramadan and, for Rebecca, the beauty of the religion came at night, when the sun was down and the family ate and drank together, and she saw the bond in their sacrifice.
She began questioning Albert's sisters, interested in the religion she knew so little about. They married in 2003 and, slowly, as is her way, Rebecca waited until the following year before telling Albert she wanted to convert.
It was done without ceremony, because, as she says, "God knows".
Three years later she went to a girlfriend's house, ready to begin wearing the hijab.
"My husband isn't fussed if I wear the scarf or not," she says. "I've been wearing it for three years. I feel that it's the next spiritual step for me. That it's the next decision."
Says Marie: "I get a lot of people look at me strangely here in Wollongong when I say my daughter is married to a Muslim and she's a Muslim and wears a scarf. I say she's still my daughter."
She has blossomed into a wonderful mother, says her mum, and now is part of a wider, wonderful family.
This is her religion.
One for which some want the burqa banned because they aren't like us.
Well, some are.

A BANKSTOWN State Election candidate married to a member of the Darwiche family has urged people not to judge her or her relatives.
Rebecca Kay, 28, is the wife of Albert Darwiche, the older brother of 37-year-old drug boss Abdul, who was gunned down outside a Bass Hill service station on March 14, 2009. On October 30, 2003, Ahmad Fahda was shot 30 times at a service station in Punchbowl Rd, Punchbowl.
Ms Kay denied the Darwiches had an ongoing feud with the Fahda family. “I don’t feel there is a problem,” she said.
“Their (the Darwiches’) reputation exceeds them.”
The mother-of-four says she was driven to stand as an independent to keep the major parties “honest”.
Ms Kay is also prepared to take part in the Canterbury-Bankstown Express forum at Bankstown Sports Club on March 2 - unlike her Liberal opponent Bill Chahine and East Hills contender Glenn Brookes. “It’s the whole issue of Labor and Liberal,” she said.
“I hope to win but realistically I’m there to keep them honest. I want to see them fight for the seat.”
Formerly a loyal Labor voter, Ms Kay named Bankstown’s high-rise developments as one of her chief concerns for the electorate and accused Labor of being detached to the community’s needs.
Ms Kay said she had strong support with voters being a Muslim of Anglo-Australian background. The Wollongong-raised Bankstown resident converted to Islam eight years ago when she married Mr Darwiche.
“I’m a real person. I have a mortgage. I’m a mother. I know how it is to live in Bankstown.”
