free yesterday during an emotional farewell to "a good soul".
Mother Angelina Crowe and step-father Michael Haycock were embraced
by Superintendent Robert Redfern, the police officer who last week told them
their son would not be coming home after a night out with a friend.
Patrick, 22,of Windsor, was stabbed in a random attack in Parramatta about 2am on July 8.
At his funeral yesterday his parents and sister Rebecca were surrounded by family and hundreds of friends who spoke openly of their great loss.
Best mate Justin Bynes, friends with Patrick for 10 years since attending Colo High School, said it was no wonder the funeral was well attended.
He had no enemies, no detractors. Just a multitude of friends he had touched with his kindness, he said.
"He was a very good-hearted person. confident and had a good soul. He was everyone's friend," Mr Bynes said.

said Patrick enjoyed life and was well mannered.
“It’s such a shocking tragedy which I never thought will happen to any of my friends” she said
"I feel Angelina's sorrow myself as a mother and we will support the family as best we can."
Angel Hawkins, who works with Mrs Crowe, broke down as she spoke of
Patrick's violent death. "I knew the family very well and it's so hard on them and all of us," she said.
The touching poem, Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep, was read out by Mrs Crowe.
Patrick, who was working at the Park Avenue Cafe in Hurstville, was heading home from a night out when he was
confronted and assaulted by four people at a bus stop in Argyle St, Parramatta.
He was stabbed — and died several hours later at Westmead Hospital.
Police have charged a Wentworthville man with murder. An 18-year-old was also charged with concealing a serious
indictable offence.

THERE were violent scenes outside a Sydney court today, where one of the supporters of the man accused of murdering teenager Thomas Kelly knocked out a
Channel 9 cameraman Mario Conti was knocked to the ground as they were surrounded by media at Burwood Local Court in Sydney's inner west. Mr Conti hit his head as he fell and lay on the footpath barely moving for around 20 minutes before an ambulance took him away from the scene.
His alleged attacker was taken into Burwood police station, where he was being questioned early this afternoon.
Kieran Loveridge, 18, was arrested last night over the murder the 18-year-old Kelly in the nightclub hub of Kings Cross on July 7.
A FOUR-day sweep of 58 pubs and clubs in Kings Cross began last night, with government inspectors called in to ensure they comply with the law.
Detectives believe Loveridge may have punched a man in "a similar fashion" minutes before he allegedly king-hit Kelly.
Loveridge then allegedly went on to hit another two men within the Kings Cross area in the space of three hours, according to police.
Loveridge sat with his head down in the dock, displaying prominent neck and arm tattoos during a brief appearance in court this morning.
He didn't apply for bail, but his lawyer said the 18-year-old would make an application for release next Wednesday.
Around a dozen friends and family were in court to support Loveridge, who will remain in custody until at least next week.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Mal Lanyon said investigators had worked tirelessly in reviewing CCTV footage and information from the public over the incident.
"It was physical force used in each of the three incidents outside Mr Kelly and not dissimilar in nature," he said.
"There was an assault on a male sometime shortly before the assault on Mr Kelly and subsequent to Mr Kelly's assault there were two further assaults several hours later in the evening."
Officers have also seized a number of items from a home in Seven Hills, in Sydney's west.
Mr Lanyon said police would continue to investigate the matter.
Homicide squad detectives arrested him at a Belmore sports field about 7.30pm last night.
He was interviewed at Campsie police station by strike force Mohawk detectives.
Just before midnight he was charged with one count of murder.
Loveridge was also charged with three counts of assault relating to separate alleged attacks the same night.
Police allege Loveridge, who turned 18 on March 9, king-hit Mr Kelly about 10pm on July 7 as he walked with his girlfriend on Victoria St, in Kings Cross.
A police source said Loveridge was also in the Cross for a big night out.
Mr Kelly, of Bowral, suffered critical head injuries. Two days later, in St Vincent's Hospital, his parents Ralph and Kathy made the heart-breaking decision to turn off his life support.
Two more people were also allegedly assaulted on Roslyn St in the Cross, where Mr Kelly was hit.
Loveridge had been at Belmore Oval watching a friend play football, although reports emerged last night that he had been watching a training session of the Canterbury Bulldogs.
He was handcuffed and taken from the ground.
Sources said that while Loveridge spoke with police as he was being driven to the station, he declined to be interviewed.
Mr Kelly finished high school at The King's School last year and had an accounting cadetship while also studying commerce at Macquarie University at night.
Mr Kelly's shocking death has also led to an urgent review of safety along the notorious Golden Mile.
Gambling Minister George Souris ordered a four-day compliance blitz of 58 late-trading pubs and clubs.
The operation, which started on Tuesday, aims to assess the effectiveness of security, surveillance and incident reporting.

POLICE have arrested an 18-year-old man over the death of Thomas Kelly in Kings Cross.
The teenager was arrested at an address at Glendenning near Mount Druitt at around 8:30pm tonight.
It is understood the man just turned 18-years-old this year.
He is currently at Campsie Police Station being interviewed by detectives and is expected to be charged.
He will appear before court tomorrow.
The Daily Telegraph has been made aware of the man's identity but cannot print it for legal reasons.
Mr Kelly was killed after being punched to the head as he made his way to a birthday party on July 6.

HANDOUTS to low-income workers under the carbon tax scheme have led to a surge in pokie revenues in May and June, according to The Australian Financial Review. Pokie revenues in Queensland rose more than 7 per cent in May and 12 per cent in June which coincided with the Federal Government’s handout of more than $15 billion in carbon tax compensation to pensioners and low-income earners.
Although other states have yet to release official gaming machine revenues for June, the AFR reports that in lower socio-economic areas of Victoria such as Bendigo they rose by 8.6 per cent, which is 7 per cent above the state average.
Other poker machine operators such as Coles and Echo Entertainment have also seen a jump in pokie revenues since the carbon cash injection was given. The new figures have led to calls by anti-gambling campaigners for carbon compensation to be given in a different form other than cash.
Stephen Mayne, an independent candidate for the Melbourne by-election this weekend, said it would be better to give the carbon tax compensation in the form of credits at a consumer’s power company.
Nomura gaming and retail analyst Nick Berry said carbon tax payments would continue to the end of July, boosting retail sales and gaming revenue. But when the first power bills arrive at the end of September, most of the carbon compensation will have been spent.
Keith DeLacy, chairman of the compliance, audit and risk committee at the Reef Hotel casino in Cairns, told the AFR that casino revenues have always increased when cash handouts were delivered.
"All it is showing is that people have increased disposable income and that’s what they’re spending it on,” he said.
“Governments have got to accept if they give straight cash handouts to the population at large they can’t dictate how it must be spent as well. I mean, how far can you take the nanny state?”

A new report says Muslim extremists in Indonesia are regrouping despite a decade long crackdown. The deadliest networks have been weakened but Islamists are finding each other and building new cells on the run, in prison and through internet forums. Anti militant groups have divided cells like Jemaah Islamia - the group blamed for the 2002 Bali Bombings - but smaller groups have formed. The report from the International Crisis Group warns that the threat of terrorism is far from over.

Australian Olympic shooter Russell Mark is fuming after learning that gay couples will be allowed to share beds at the London Games while he will be prevented from rooming with his wife.
Russell and wife Lauryn were told by Australian chef de mission Nick Green that if they wanted to share accommodation they would have to leave the Olympic village and rent a hotel.
Mark told the Herald Sun that he felt discriminated against for being in a heterosexual relationship.
"The stupid part of this, which I have argued to them, is that there are tons of gay couples on the Olympic team who will be rooming together so we are being discriminated against because we are heterosexual." Mark said.
"Every couple, whether they are married or de facto should have the AOC trying to bend over backwards to accommodate their needs.
"They are pissed with my stance on sleeping tablets and what pissed them more than anything else is the photo shoot.
Mark recently spoke out against the ban on athletes using sleeping pills at the London Games, claiming that such a ban would negatively affect Australia's medal tally. Lauryn Mark appears in a photo shoot for Zoo magazine shouldering her shot-gun while wearing a skimpy green and gold bikini.
Lauryn Mark backed up her husband's claims of unfair treatment by the AOC, stating that, "There are a lot of same sex couples and its OK to be partners with someone of the same sex but if you are heterosexual you are penalised."

Wealthy Arab tourists from Gulf countries are paying money to purchase under-age Egyptian girls as “summer-brides”, claims a new report on human trafficking released by the U.S. State Department.
The marriages are not legally binding and end when the men return to their home countries.
According to the report “Trafficking in Persons”, often times these temporary marriages are facilitated by the girls’ parents who profit from the transaction.
According to Britain’s The Daily Mail, the wealthy tourists pay an amount to poor families through intermediaries, ranging from anywhere between $495 and $4,950.The young victims, some under the age of 18, are then forced to serve as sex slaves as well as servants to their “husbands.”
Egypt has laws in place that aim to combat human trafficking which prevent foreigners from marrying an Egyptian woman if there is more than ten years age difference, but marriage brokers have found a way around that by forging birth certificates to make the girls appear older and the men younger.
These contracts also eliminate any potential problems with hotels and land lords who may demand to see proof of marriage before allowing a couple to stay in a room together, since pre-marital sex is prohibited in Islam.
In many cases, the family agrees to marry their daughter without her consent, but often the girls are willing participants as they see it as the only way to help provide for their families.
In some cases the men take the Egyptian girls back to their home country to work as maids for their first wives. But even the girls who stay in Egypt do not fare much better since they often become ostracized by society and find it difficult to re-marry in the traditional way, particularly if the “summer marriage” resulted in a child.
Many of the young women end up in a cycle of temporary marriages with Gulf tourists, and others are targeted by Egyptian men who marry them in order to force them into prostitution.
Many abandon the child out of shame, either to orphanages or leaving them to join the hundreds of thousands of street children that already exist in Egypt.

Dr. Hoda Badran, who chairs the NGO Alliance for Arab Women, explained to the Sunday Independent that poverty is the main factor behind this phenomenon.
“If those families are in such a need to sell their daughters you can imagine how poor they are. Many times, the girl does not know she is marrying the husband just for the short term. She is young, she accepts what her family tells her, she knows the man is going to help them. If the girl is very poor, sometimes it is the only way out to help the family survive,” she told the newspaper.
The report by the State department said Egypt is making significant efforts to eliminate human trafficking, but due to the political unrest in the country over the past year, the government is unable to provide law enforcement and prosecution data on those efforts.
Furthermore, it said Egypt is continuing to develop strategies to implement a comprehensive action plan to address all aspects on trafficking.
In 2009, a court in Egypt’s second largest city Alexandria jailed two registrars for conducting temporary marriages of hundreds of underage girls, however NGOs say that this is only the tip of the iceberg, and that more needs to be done to implement existing laws.

HMAS Anzac is the first of her class and a modern warship, capable of operating in a multi-threat environment. Anzac's design is based on the German Meko 200 Class that uses modular construction methods. A feature of this method was the ability to share the construction of the 8 Australian and 2 New Zealand vessels throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Anzac is fitted with an advanced package of air surveillance radars; hull mounted sonar and electronic support systems that interface with state-of-the-art weapons systems. Anzac's armament comprises a five-inch (127-mm) gun, Harpoon missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles and Ship Launched Torpedoes.

Anzac has been granted freedom of entry to the City of Albany, Western Australia, the departure port for the ANZAC's of old and also has a close association with the City of Rockingham. The Warnbro High School, near her homeport, has established the HMAS Anzac Learning Centre that promotes the education of our Navy and the history of Australia 's most costly war.
Other notable events Anzac participated in have included deployments to the Arabian Gulf, culminating in Naval Gunfire Support of British Royal Marines landings on Al Faw Peninsula, Iraq in 2003. During Northern Trident, Anzac celebrated the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in the UK as part of the International Fleet Review. Anzac has also successfully contributed to Fisheries Protection, Border Protection and Maritime Rescue Operations through her over ten years in service.

Hundreds of family, friends and fellow soldiers have commemorated the life of Sergeant Blaine Diddams, in a moving military funeral service held at Karrakatta, Perth.
Forty year-old Sergeant Diddams was killed during an engagement with insurgents on operations in southern Afghanistan on 2 July, 2012.
Local residents, dignitaries and Defence Force members stood shoulder to shoulder to pay respects to Sergeant Diddams as his coffin was marched into the cemetery by his Regimental mates.
Commanding Officer of the Special Air Service Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel J paid homage to Sergeant Blaine Diddams.
“Didds was at the top of his game in terms of command, leadership and tactical acumen, yet he was humble, loyal to the end and respectful of all who contributed to the delivery of operational capability,” Lieutenant Colonel J said.
“His pursuit of professional excellence, his devotion to his family, his dedication to his mates and to his country will always be remembered by an eternally grateful Regiment, Defence Force and nation.”
Sergeant Diddams is survived by his wife Toni-Ann, his two children, Elle-Lou and Henry, his parents Peter and Cate, and four brothers and sisters.
