"The chief weapon in the quiver of all Islamist expansionist movements, is the absolute necessity to keep victims largely unaware of the actual theology plotting their demise. To complete this deception, a large body of ‘moderates’ continue to spew such ridiculous claims as “Islam means Peace” thereby keeping non-Muslims from actually reading the Qur’an, the Sira, the Hadith, or actually looking into the past 1400 years of history. Islamists also deny or dismiss the concept of ‘abrogation’, which is the universal intra-Islamic method of replacing slightly more tolerable aspects of the religion in favor of more violent demands for Muslims to slay and subdue infidels"

Migrant birthrates are changing Australia: Average birthrate below replacement level

Clarissa Bye
The Daily Telegraph
February 12, 2016

IT’S the biggest story of our times, but political correctness has stifled debate so badly that politicians are too afraid to even talk about it.

According to visiting Canadian author and free-speech advocate Mark Steyn, low birth rates have put Western societies into a “demographic death spiral”.

And he warns it’s impossible to rely on immigration to fill the gap without completely changing our culture.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph before his Australian tour next week, Mr Steyn said politicians were underestimating how quickly societies can change.

“Normally for a population transformation you need a Black Death, the Plague or a world war,” he said. “But in this case we are having it without any of that. That’s why it’s the most fascinating question of our times.”

Australia’s average birthrate of 1.79 is below replacement level. And while Mr Steyn gives Malcolm Turnbull brownie points for understanding the implications of declining birthrates — they once shared a session passing notes back and forth about the issue — he is pessimistic about the PM’s will to reverse the trend. “We don’t have a language to talk about this without accusations of racism and sexism coming up,” he said.

“Western societies are basically importing a new population to be the children you couldn’t be bothered having yourselves.”

Mr Steyn said the cultural changes that come with Muslim migration should be acknowledged and discussed.

Women giving birth in Australia but born in Lebanon have an average of 4.03 children. For Syrian mums the figure is 3.38 and for Pakistani women it’s 3.02. For Australian-born women the figure is just 1.86.

Amal Chafic of Illawong is a modern Muslim mum with five children aged five to 12 and a large extended family as her two brothers each have four children. “I come from a big family of five and so does my husband Anas, who had six in his family,” she said.

In Oatley, mother-of-two Kylie McCathie, 39, said many of her peers were starting their families late after putting their careers first.

“When I lived in Surry Hills everyone in the mothers’ group was over 30 with their first child,” she said.

Mr Steyn’s visit coincides with Australia’s population hitting 24 million next week.

To mark the milestone, social research firm McCrindle has released a “fertility map” of Sydney’s birthrates by suburb showing the city’s Muslim population is leading the charge.

Many of the most fertile suburbs are in our migrant clusters, such as Lakemba, Auburn, Guildford, Punchbowl and Bankstown — popular with families of Middle Eastern background.

Multicultural Sydney: Auburn genital mutilation: Guilty women, sheik fail to show remorse or speak out says judge

Auburn genital mutilation: Guilty women, sheik fail to show remorse or speak out says judge

SARAH CRAWFORD
The Daily Telegraph
February 5 2016

"Justice Peter Johnson raised concerns that the three accused had not rejected the practise of female genital mutilation called “khatna,” which is traditionally performed on seven-year-old girls."

A SUPREME Court Justice has questioned the remorse of two women convicted of female genital mutilation, saying they have not said if they now reject the practice or will speak out against the procedure which is a tradition in their small Muslim sect.

A midwife, Kubra Magennis, 72, and a 39-year-old mother of four girls (known as A2 during the court proceedings) were convicted by a jury of mutilating the clitorises of the younger woman’s two eldest daughters in November last year, becoming the first people in Australia to be successfully prosecuted for female genital mutilation.

They face a maximum penalty of seven years jail.

At the sentencing hearing Justice Johnson criticised a psychological report tendered by A2 and Vaziri’s defence barrister Robert Sutherland SC saying it focused on the mother and not the impact of the crime she committed against her daughters.

“It is largely a report on what the impact on the family is if the mother goes to jail, no one has asked her (the eldest daughter) as a victim of crime what her attitude is towards the crime.”

Crown Prosecutor Nannette Williams asked that a suppression order on the name of the midwife, initially only known as KM, be lifted which was opposed by her defence barrister Stuart Bouveng on the ground the “frail” woman’s safety was at risk.

The judge later lifted the suppression order, allowing the midwife’s name to be publicised.

Magennis and her husband tendered affidavits that they had been harassed and received threatening phone calls over the past three years.

The religious leader of their Shia Muslim sect, Dawoodi Bohra, Sheik Shabbir Mohammedbhai Vaziri, was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact to the procedure.

At a sentencing hearing today, Justice Peter Johnson raised concerns that the three accused had not rejected the practise of female genital mutilation called “khatna,” which is traditionally performed on seven-year-old girls.

“I am not sure that I have seen any of these accused saying they reject all practises of that sort … and they do take action in the Dawoodi Bohra community to speak out against that,” Justice Johnson said

During the eight-and-a-half week trial the jury heard A2 had arranged for Magennis to perform the procedure called “khatna” on her daughters on two different occasions in Wollongong and Baulkham Hills in Sydney’s north west between October 2009 and August 2012.

The injuries consisted of a nick or cut to the girls’ clitorises.

When police began investigating the practice Vaziri told community members to tell detectives that they did not practise female genital mutilation.

The tiny Auburn-based sect came to police attention in 2012 after they received a tip-off from a reformist Dawoodi Bohra member that the orthodox followers practised female genital mutilation.

The hearing continues.

Police investigate Iraq veteran Kyle Tyrrell over melee with Torquay fisherman

Herald Sun
January 27 2016

A RETIRED lieutenant-colonel and Iraq veteran is being investigated after a melee with fishermen on the Surf Coast.

Kyle Tyrrell, 47, suffered minor injuries and says his wife, Liana, was punched in the face in Sunday’s conflict at the Cosy Corner beach at Torquay.

At least one of the fishermen was taken to hospital.

On social media, Mr Tyrrell wrote of what happened and urged people to protect “our women ... our country is being overrun by Muslim scum”.

“It was an added bonus to witness a few of our attackers be brought to hospital by ambulance after we arrived, sucking on the pain whistles.”

Speaking to the Herald Sun , he was confident he would not be charged: “I was just protecting my wife and daughter, like any man.”

Mrs Tyrrell, 30, said on seeing one of the men put a crab pot in the water, she told him the area was a marine sanctuary and fishing was banned.

Mr Tyrell believes his attack was racially motivated.
“Liana said nicely to him that if you put that in there, you may get in trouble, as you are
not meant to have it. That was it, and he turned on her,” Mr Tyrrell said.

He said he heard his wife’s screams and, seeing a man attacking her, ran to her aid. After he got the man into a headlock, he said up to eight other men ran in.

The war veteran, a qualified instructor in the martial art of Krav Maga, said he ended up on the ground and was kicked in the head. The couple believe the attack was racially and culturally motivated.

“I’m a war veteran and I fought in the Middle East. The main attacker was Muslim and my take is he probably didn’t like being told what to do from a woman,” Mr Tyrrell said.

“This guy was calling Liana a white s--- and a white whore and telling her: ‘Your husband needs to teach you a lesson’.”

A shaken Mrs Tyrrell wants the man she says attacked her charged.

Mr Tyrrell, who suffers post-traumatic stress disorder, has been trying to adapt to civilian life since retiring in 2011.

He has received Divisional Commanders and Land Commanders commendations for exemplary service, the Commandants Prize, and a Commendation for Distinguished Service in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours for leadership and courage in action.

No charges have been laid and police inquiries continue.

Australia's Shameful Mangina of the Year

"But instead of the leadership that soldiers at the frontline may have craved, they got flowery speeches decrying masculinity and patriarchy to mark International Women’s Day at the United Nations."

Sorry David, but it’s the wrong fight

Miranda Devine
The Daily Telegraph
January 27 2016

THE Australian of the Year award has officially become a politically correct joke with the selection of former chief of Army David Morrison, the diminutive gender equity maven who believes military force achieves nothing.

The award, which ought to reflect and unite this great nation, has evolved into a mere plaything of social engineers and reflects all of the unhealthy preoccupations of the Left.

The lucky recipients announced on Australia Day then spend a year lecturing the rest of us about how backward and awful we all are compared to their enlightened selves.

From Adam Goodes to Rosie Batty and now Morrison, you would think we are an irredeemably racist, sexist nation in which every man is an incipient wife basher. (Search engine leviathan Google yesterday confirmed that black-armband view by transforming its homepage into a lament about stolen generations in a special “up yours” message to its Antipodean customers on Australia Day.)

But Morrison’s selection is the final nail in the coffin of irrelevance for the Australian of the Year award.

It is a travesty that he has been rewarded for exposing our military to the warped ideology of Anne Summers, Elizabeth Broderick,

Jane Caro (the “eminent Australian” as he described her yesterday) and the rest of Australia’s left-feminist clique.

This is a man who, after having been chief of Army for four years, told Leigh Sales on the ABC’s 730 program last year: “I don’t think that there’s a military solution to anything.”

This is a man who has derided the Anzac legend as being too male and “Anglo-Saxon”. You’d be hard pressed finding a Digger with much good to say about him, judging by my straw poll of friends and acquaintances.

While Australian soldiers were dying in Afghanistan, Morrison was talking about social engineering concerns such as gender equity.

Fourteen soldiers died between July 2011 and July 2014 in that dangerous and confusing war, when Morrison was chief of Army.

But instead of the leadership that soldiers at the frontline may have craved, they got flowery speeches decrying masculinity and patriarchy to mark International Women’s Day at the United Nations.

Then, of course, there was his celebrated 2013 video lambasting as sexists the male soldiers who were risking their lives in service of our country. The video catapulted him into the pantheon of politically correct saints.

“The standard you walk past, is the standard you accept,” he thundered in an address that went viral, mainly because it was written so expertly by his then-speechwriter, transgender Group Captain Cate McGregor.

Winning wars has nothing to do with gender equity, but sadly our society now rewards this kind of sanctimonious posturing.

Morrison has also declared that he will use his new position this year to champion another divisive pet issue of the progressive elites, the republic debate.

“It is time, I think, to at least revisit the question so that we can stand both free and fully independent among the community of nations,” he said in his acceptance speech on Monday.

This prompted a delighted Australian Republican Movement chairman Peter FitzSimons to propose Morrison as President of an Australian republic, a sure-fire kiss of death to the cause if ever there was one.

The bottom line is that a former chief of army honoured with the title of Australian of the Year in 2016 should be advocating for wounded returned soldiers and those suffering post-traumatic stress rather than treading the overtilled ground of gender complaint and a republic.

God knows our Diggers could do with a high-profile champion.

BAFFLING BUSINESS: PICKING OUR TOP AUSSIE

SELECTION of Australian of the Year is an opaque, arbitrary and unrepresentative process too easily hijacked by social engineers.

From gender equity warrior David Morrison to domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty to indigenous activist Adam Goodes, the role ends up channelling the preoccupations of the progressive elites and thus divides the nation.

At first glance this seems unlikely, as the Board of the National Australia Day Council is chaired by Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith and comprises upstanding community members.

But they can only choose from the eight candidates presented to them by state selection panels. And here is where the process becomes opaque and inconsistent.

In NSW a panel of 13 chaired by Sky News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos chose former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick.

Victoria by contrast has a committee of three, chaired by Stefan Romaniw from Multicultural Arts Victoria. It chose human rights barrister Julian McMahon.

In the NT the selection is made by a board of 10 chaired by a former Country Liberal politician. It chose youth worker Will MacGregor.

In SA a selection panel of 14 chaired by a suburban councillor chose surgeon John Greenwood. WA has a panel of 10, including, industry

representatives and a former state governor. They chose ebola nurse Anne Carey.

In the ACT (Morrison), Tasmania (conservationist Jane Hutchinson) and Queensland (transgender campaigner Cate McGregor), selection

is run by arms of the state government.

Muslim RAN Captain Mona Shindy broadsided after terror tweet row

The Daily Telegraph

Navy’s trailblazing Muslim captain

A SENIOR female Muslim navy officer has had her twitter account shut down after it posted tweets on Islamic terrorism that appear at odds with government policy.

Captain Mona Shindy, the Chief of Navy’s strategic adviser on Islamic affairs, was believed to run the account @navyislamic which retweeted a counter-terrorism expert mocking Tony Abbott after the leadership coup.

The social media account had also backed Grand Mufti Ibrahim Abu Mohamed’s controversial response to the Paris terrorist attacks, tweeting the hashtag #IStandWithTheMufti.

Captain Shindy, who won the Telstra NSW Businesswoman of the Year last year, had also called for the word “Islam” to be removed from reporting on Islamic state in a policy talk.

Her twitter account, which described itself as the “Official Royal Australian Navy Islamic Advisor Twitter account”, vanished shortly before Christmas following complaints.

Captain Shindy had retweeted counter-terrorism expert Anne Aly, who had tweeted on the night of the leadership change: “Wait. Did our new PM just give a speech and not mention boats, death cult, security, death cult, terrorism, national security and death cult?”

Inside the mind of Anne Aly, Moderate Muslim.

Captain Shindy has stated it was her aim to encourage more Muslims to join the defence force, as about 100 of the 45000 defence force personnel identify as Muslim, 27 of them in the Navy.

But a row erupted when she used the account to enter the political fray, and attacked a new Queensland-based political party called the Australian Liberty Alliance, launched by Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

“Real shame to see these extreme ill informed fringe groups threatening #community #cohesion. #auspol #teamhumanrace” the tweet from October 22 stated.

A Defence Department spokesman told The Australian newspaper: “Navy has consolidated its social media platforms to achieve a ‘single source’ so as to strengthen its messaging in synch with its support to traditional media.”

Captain Shindy has worked for the navy for 26 years and is the head of its Guided Missile Frigate Program.

Defence policy usually bans political statements from defence personnel in their official capacity.

In a talk to the Royal United Services Institute of NSW in March last year, Captain Shindy accused the media of “fearmongering”, stating there was no connection between the terror group and religion.

She also raised the issue of a “double standard” over the issue of the occupied territories of Israel, comparing with the world’s “willingness to take prompt and decisive action against other nations such as Iraq”.

“The extremist behaviour of groups purporting to be Muslims has been overplayed by the media for years constantly linking terrorist behaviours to Islam, e.g. use of the description ‘Islamist’, rather than separatist or militant,” she said.

“It is also important that, in the public rhetoric, terrorism and Islam are de-linked. “Constant negative media reporting on apparent Muslim behaviour provides ammunition for terrorist recruiters enabling them to convince impressionable Muslims that there is an agenda against them and their religion — again, supporting a call for armed jihad.

“Indeed, the word ‘Islam’ needs to be removed from reporting on ISIS/ISIL or Daesh. “The barbaric nature and ideology of these groups has nothing to do with Islam and we should work to limit their appeal to vulnerable Muslims, preventing the use and advertising of ‘Islam’ in their name.”

Pious Muslim Salim Mehajer faces vote fraud charges over alleged rigging of 2012 Auburn Council election

Salim Mehajer faces vote fraud charges over alleged rigging of 2012 Auburn Council election

Yoni Bashan and James Hooper
The Sunday Telegraph

HIGH-profile deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has been charged with forging documents to rig the 2012 Auburn Council ballot that got him elected.

An Australian Federal Police investigation has also charged Mehajer’s sister Fatima, his brother-in-law Jamal Elkheir and five other associates and schoolfriends who ran as candidates in the council poll.

The Mehajer siblings are accused of forging documents, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The rest of the group is charged with falsifying their candidate information sheets to claim they resided at addresses in Auburn, making them eligible to run.

The deputy mayor first came to the attention of the wider public earlier this year when his wedding, featuring helicopters, sports cars and a military flyover, all being filmed by a professional movie crew, brought parts of Sydney to a standstill.

However, the AFP has been watching Mehajer since 2012, when officials at the Australian Electoral Commission noticed a large number of online and postal applications in the weeks leading up to the poll from people requesting to change their enrolment address to Auburn Council’s first ward, where he was standing as a candidate.

Fatima Mehajer was running as a candidate in the second ward at the election on September 9.

About two dozen applications were processed before inconsistencies were noticed and suspicions raised.

Further checks allegedly revealed that several dozen of the online applications had been submitted from a computer located at the Mehajer family’s home and another at their business address.

When AFP officers later raided Mehajer’s property at Lidcombe they located a printer that appeared to have the same security identifier as some posted application forms.

Phones were also seized that revealed text messages allegedly relating to the suspicious applications sent to the AEC.

A second part of the investigation focused on Mehajer’s close associates, who ran with him and his sister as group independent candidates.

Scrutiny of their candidate information sheets revealed they had been falsified to say they lived in Auburn, allowing them to run in the ballot as part of a group, police claim.

Mehajer’s group of six contained four people now charged as part of the investigation. His sister’s group of five contained two now charged.

As the head candidates of their respective groups, both Mehajer and his sister were given a box “above the line” on the ballot paper, putting them in a favourable position to earn votes. The vast majority of voters at that year’s council election — 77 per cent — voted by ticking a box above the line, according to AEC data.

While Fatima Mehajer was unsuccessful, her brother was elected to the fifth and final spot on council by more than 500 votes.

The brief of evidence for the investigation was served on the DPP for assessment in February, several months before Mehajer shot to notoriety with his lavish wedding.

The investigation, which has been running since August 2012, culminated with court notices being served on all eight people on December 9 and 10.

Is the Net Closing on Salim Mehajer ?

Salim Mehajer to be charged over alleged threats he made against the father of one of the Lindt siege survivors

The others have been named as Jamal Elkheir, Fatima Kandil, Shi Lao, Abhinav Mehta, Arjun Mehta and Ahmad Trad.

“All eight are scheduled to appear in the Downing Centre on 2nd February,” an AFP spokeswoman said.

The Mehajers have each been charged with 76 counts of using forged documents and one each of using false or misleading documents.

The remaining six people have been charged with one count each of using false or misleading documents.

Mehajer responded to the allegations last night on behalf of his sister and his brother-in-law, saying the charges were false and motivated by a hidden agenda.

“Allegations will continue to grow in anticipation to tarnish us however, this will not in any way, shape or form, threaten us to step down,” he said.

“They are false and misleading with hidden agendas to bring us down. We shall remain focused on our roles and responsibilities.”

THE CHARGES

Eleven candidates ran across two groups in Auburn Council’s first and second ward. Group H was led by Salim Mehajer and had a total of six candidates running in the first ward.

Group G was led by Fatima Mehajer and had a total of five candidates running in the second ward.

Of these 11 candidates, eight were closely known to each other and have each been charged by the AFP.

Former Australian PM Tony Abbott gets it right AGAIN: "It’s not culturally insensitive to demand loyalty to Australia and respect for Western civilisation. Cultures are not all equal"

The religion of Islam must reform

Tony Abbott
The Daily Telegraph
December 9 2015

"It’s not culturally insensitive to demand loyalty to Australia and respect for Western civilisation. Cultures are not all equal. We should be ready to proclaim the clear superiority of our culture to one that justifies killing people in the name of God."

AROUND the world, terrorists screaming out Allah-u-Akbar are killing decent people going about their daily lives.

So far, three innocent people have died in terrorist incidents in Australia: Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson in the Martin Place siege a year ago and Curtis Cheng outside Parramatta police station in October.

So far our police and security services have responded with great professionalism to the terrorist threat and our people have taken this new challenge in their stride.

At every level, though, our response needs to escalate as the danger intensifies.

In the past few weeks there’s been the bombing of a Russian airliner over Sinai killing 224 people, the multiple attacks in Paris killing 130, bombings in the Middle East killing 75, the massacre of 14 people in California (it now seems) and a four-day lockdown of Brussels.

Dealing with terrorism and the Islamist fanaticism that inspires it is the great challenge of our time. Obviously there needs to be a very strong security response at home and abroad.

We need to be able to deal with terrorists and would-be terrorists here in Australia and to destroy the so-called Islamic State caliphate in Syria and Iraq that’s inspiring them. My government boosted funding to police and security agencies, passed four sets of legislation with more power to arrest and detain terror suspects, and committed to stripping terrorists who are dual nationals of their citizenship.

Australian jets are bombing terrorist targets in the Middle East and our soldiers are advising and training the Iraqi army.

At best this is containing the death cult — but not destroying it. That’s why the US is now sending special operations troops into the Middle East to fight rather than just to advise and train.

President Obama is now showing the will to win that’s needed for a safer world and he needs our support.

PM Turnbull is talking to our allies about what else we might do. This could include more RAAF support for the air campaign and allowing our soldiers to broaden their mission to help local forces.

The security response is necessary but it’s not sufficient. There also needs to be a concerted “hearts and minds” campaign against the versions of Islam that make excuses for terrorists.

Although most Muslims utterly reject terrorism, some are all too ready to justify “death to the infidel”.

Surveys of British and French Muslims typically show up to 30 per cent sympathising with the aims if not the methods of Islamic State.

Demonising Islam generally or all Muslims could bring on the “clash of civilisations” that academic Samuel Huntington feared two decades back and make “Islam’s bloody borders” even more dangerous. But we can’t remain in denial about the massive problem within Islam.

Islam never had its own version of the Reformation and the Enlightenment or a consequent acceptance of pluralism and the separation of church and state.

Fortunately there are numerous Muslim leaders who think their faith needs to modernise from the kill-or-be-killed milieu of the Prophet Mohammed.

A year ago, President el-Sisi of Egypt told the imams of the Al-Azhar University in Cairo that Islam needed nothing less than a “religious revolution” to correct centuries of false ideas that were making Islam a menace to the wider world.

When Islamic State first swept into Iraq, Prime Minister Najib of Malaysia said that it was “against God, against Islam and against our common humanity”.

After one of his worshippers murdered a police employee, the chairman of the Parramatta mosque declared that “if you don’t like Australia, leave”.

Islam needs to delegitimise the urge to “behead all those who insult the Prophet” but only Muslims can do this. That’s why everyone interested in a safer world should be reaching out to “live and let live” Muslims and encouraging them to reclaim their faith from the zealots.

In Australia that means talking to decent people who happen to be Muslim as well as to “official” Muslims inclined to see “Islamophobia” in any criticism.

Saturday’s Daily Telegraph reported local Muslim leaders blaming Islamic State on Western foreign policy but this self-excusing rubbish ignores the fact that the death cult’s victims have mostly been Muslims who think differently.

THEIR ABC Still pondering just how children could be induced into Islamic Terrorism... after all Islam means Peace doesn't it?

It’s also time Australians stopped being apologetic about the values that have made our country as free, fair and prosperous as any on Earth.

Where hate preaching is not illegal it should at least be thoroughly answered point-by-point with a very robust defence of human rights and responsibilities.

It’s not culturally insensitive to demand loyalty to Australia and respect for Western civilisation. Cultures are not all equal. We should be ready to proclaim the clear superiority of our culture to one that justifies killing people in the name of God.

Tony Abbott says Islam must change, and we shouldn’t apologise for our Western values

TONY Abbott has called for a religious revolution within Islam as he urges Australians to stop apologising for their Western values and culture.

Writing exclusively for The Daily Telegraph today — a week before the anniversary of the Sydney Lindt Cafe siege — the former prime minister warns of a “clash of civilisations” unless Islam undergoes a global reform.

In an article likely to invite controversy, Mr Abbott says Australia and the West can no longer live in denial about the “problem within Islam”, and that while most Muslims rejected terrorism, some were “all too ready to justify ‘death to the infidel’.”

“Islam needs to delegitimise the urge to ‘behead all those who insult the Prophet’ but only Muslims can do this,” Mr Abbott writes.

“Demonising Islam generally or all Muslims could bring on the ‘clash of civilisations’ that academic Samuel Huntington feared two decades back and make ‘Islam’s bloody borders’ even more dangerous.

“But we can’t remain in denial about the massive problem within Islam.

“Islam has never had its own version of the Reformation and the Enlightenment or a consequent acceptance of pluralism and the separation of church and state.”

Mr Abbott’s comments will be seen as reinforcing a growing number of Coalition MPs who have broken ranks with Prime Minister

Malcolm Turnbull and called on Muslim leaders to do more to counter violent extremism.

“Everyone interested in a safer world should reach out to ‘live and let live’ Muslims and encourage them to reclaim their faith from

the zealots,” Mr Abbott writes.

“In Australia, that means talking to decent people who happen to be Muslim as well as to ‘official’ Muslims inclined to see ‘Islamophobia’ in any criticism.

“Surveys of British and French Muslims typically show up to 30 per cent sympathising with the aims if not the methods of Islamic State.

“Fortunately, there are numerous Muslim leaders who think their faith needs to modernise from the kill-or-be-killed milieu of the Prophet Mohammed.”

Praising US President Barack Obama for stepping up the military campaign against IS, Mr Abbott says it won’t be enough on its own.

“There also needs to be a concerted ‘hearts and minds’ campaign against the versions of Islam that make excuses for terrorists,” he writes.

Mr Abbott also warns of a cultural cringe preventing an honest debate about the issue and calls on Australians to proclaim the secular values on which the nation was built.

“It’s also time Australians stopped being apologetic about the values that have made our country as free, fair and prosperous as any on Earth,” Mr Abbott writes.

“It’s not culturally insensitive to demand loyalty to Australia ... we should be ready to proclaim the clear superiority of our culture to one that justifies killing people in the name of God.”
