A RADICAL Islamic speaker from the UK who condoned child rape on a previous visit to Australia is returning to spout more of his foul bile at a Muslim youth and community conference at Sydney Olympic Park.

Hamza Tzortzis, who has said publicly that anyone who fights against Muslims should be beheaded, is one of 12 international and local speakers — all of them men — booked for the ominously named United Muslims of Australia Quest for Success conference.

The event will be held in May in Homebush, which falls into the electorate of federal MP Craig Laundy, who will be sworn in as Assistant Minister for Multicultural ­Affairs tomorrow.

When The Daily Telegraph called Mr Laundy yesterday to inform him of the conference line-up, he said: “Hate speech has no place in our society and I utterly condemn in the strongest terms the views of anyone preaching hate and intolerance.”

Other speakers include a Hamas-supporting British preacher called Sheikh Zahir Mahmood and a Canadian called Sheikh Alaa Elsayed, who believes having two wives is good because, he says, they will fight for your attention.

Among the Australian speakers are Zachariah ­Matthews, who has called for elements of sharia law to be introduced into Australia’s legal system, and Sheikh Abu Hamza, who has argued that it is OK to hit your wife — just not too hard.

Also on the list of Aussie speakers is Sheikh Shady ­Alsuleiman, whose Sydney ­organisation hosted a speech by an al-Qaeda recruiter who was later killed in a drone ­attack in Yemen.

Ironically, Mr Tzortzis, who is known for his strong moral views, appeared on hacked data from the Ashley Madison dating website, ­although he has said repeatedly he was hacked.

John Perkins, the president of the Secular Party, ­debated Mr Tzortzis when he was in Australia in 2013.

“I put it to him that the Koran condones child marriage, (and) he defended it.

“He was defending child rape. I was absolutely ­appalled,” Mr Perkins said.

Despite Mr Tzortzis’s ­offensive views, Mr Perkins believes the conference should be permitted.

“It is better that views are exposed to the public because their own words condemn them more than any attack ever could,” he said.

The event has also angered women because of the lack of female speakers. Activist Eva Cox said: “It is impossible to imagine a conference about success that excludes women.”

A spokesman from the ­Department of Immigration said Mr Tzortzis had not yet ­applied for a visa.

“There are strong provisions under the Migration Act to refuse or cancel a visa if a person is found not to be of good character,” he said.

United Muslims of Australia did not provide a comment.

LABOR’S rookie inner west MP has called for sniffer dogs to be banned and illegal party drugs to actually be tested at music festivals to ensure they were safe for young people to take.

“Kids smoking pot or taking pills at music festivals won’t go away,” Summer Hill MP Jo Haylen said in her speech to colleagues at Labor’s state conference.

“Rather than ruining lives with a criminal record or, worse still, leaving people to take risks on their own, let’s be brave.

“Let’s introduce amnesty bins and pill testing at festivals so we’re not putting people at risk.

“Let’s retire sniffer dogs so we’re not unnecessarily targeting vulnerable people on our streets.

“Let’s decriminalise the possession and use of drugs and get the debate back on track — let’s get drug users out of cop cars and into the health system.”

Ms Haylen gave the speech late on Saturday, hijacking a health committee debate which colleagues felt should have been focused on the gap in health funding Premier Mike Baird wants funded through an increase in the GST. Ms Haylen said it was time to “put Labor at the vanguard again”, just as when former Premier Bob Carr introduced a medically supervised injecting room at Kings Cross.

She also criticised the Baird government’s increase in roadside drug testing.

“Labor understands that you don’t fix a flood with a hammer,” Ms Haylen said.

“The Baird government’s heavy handed approach doesn’t fix the problem. “Sniffer dogs are ineffective — they’re wrong three quarters of the time, causing unnecessary interactions between police and young people. “Likewise the intensified pressure of police at music festivals and events doesn’t stop young people taking drugs — it just encourages them to take all their drugs to avoid arrest.

“Roadside drug testing hurls people into the legal system for having the most minute traces if drugs in their system, but operates without a shred of evidence to prove it reduces the number of accidents.”

Ms Haylen said in her speech Premier Mike Baird and his deputy Troy Grant should “stop targeting kids, and poor people, LBTIQ people and the vulnerable.

“They (should) use their resources to target drug dealers and manufacturers to stop the flow of illicit drugs on our streets.”

The motion put by Ms Haylen, a member of the Left, to review the sniffer dog drug detection program, introduce pill testing at festivals and hold a parliamentary inquiry into drugs was defeated by the Right at conference and was not permitted to go to a vote.

Ms Haylen said yesterday that she did not intend to take her proposals to caucus, they were her personal views and reflected the views of her electorate.

Labor’s health spokesman Walt Secord said: “Her speech diverged sharply from ALP policy.

“I would have preferred to have debated the more than $20.1 billion in health cuts by the Turnbull and Baird governments.”

TAXPAYERS were charged $2000 an hour for “Celebrity Minister” Julie Bishop to take 70 foreign diplomats on a two-day sightseeing tour of her home state of Western Australia.

Ms Bishop, who is also Foreign Minister, took an entourage of 12 staff with her on the 2014 trip, which cost taxpayers almost $150,000.

The opposition has labelled the trip an “appalling waste of money”, claiming it was an ­indulgence that included a $10,000 dinner, a tour of the Sandalford Estate winery in the Swan Valley and a breakfast by the beach for the Canberra diplomatic corps, which included representatives of some of the wealthiest countries in the world.

There was also a charter flight for almost 100 people to the Pilbara at a cost of $57,000. There they toured the iron ore operations of BHP and Rio Tinto — the two richest mining companies in the world.

The bill would have been significantly higher had the diplomats not paid for their own airfares to Perth and their accommodation while there.

Ms Bishop, who is becoming increasingly known for her red carpet appearances and glamorous lifestyle, compared the cost of the trip to one Kevin Rudd made in 2011 to Queensland.

“Diplomatic corps visits are a longstanding practice supported by both sides of government dating back to 2000,” Ms Bishop told a Senate estimates hearing last week.

“The total cost incurred by the Australian government for the diplomatic corps visit to Western Australia was $145,200, or $2016.67 including GST per head of mission.

“This is comparable to the 2011 diplomatic corps visit to Queensland hosted by former foreign minister Kevin Rudd which cost $1978.77 including GST per head of mission when adjusted for inflation.”

The opposition has described Ms Bishop’s response as offensive because Mr Rudd’s trip — on which he took 100 foreign ambassadors and high commissioners — was part of the crisis recovery expedition in the wake of Cyclone Yasi.

“It is incredibly offensive for Ms Bishop to compare her sightseeing tour of WA to Mr Rudd escorting diplomats to Queensland in 2011 to demonstrate the state’s recovery after Cyclone Yasi,” Labor’s Wastewatch committee spokesman Pat Conroy said.

“This is a pathetic attempt to excuse the waste and misuse of taxpayers’ money. Last year Julie Bishop spent $125,000 on a tour of South Australia, and on that occasion she took nine staff and a few state Liberal MPs along with her.


“We also caught her taking three staffers along to a $350-a-head dinner, clearly more than are necessary.

“When the taxpayer is footing the bill for these functions, you’ve got to consider whether every expense is necessary.”
