Rudd must come clean about China briefing before US visit

PM 'must reveal details' of China talks

By Sandra O'Malley
NineMsn.com.au
Tue Mar 24 2009

Nationals Senate leader Barnaby Joyce has called on Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to reveal details of a meeting with one of China's most senior officials.

On Saturday, the prime minister met Li Changchun at The Lodge in Canberra, at the start of a four-nation tour for the fifth most senior Chinese Communist Party official.

Why would Comrade Rudd ban Australian media, from covering his "briefing" (aka.taking instructions from) the fifth most important man in the Communist Party of China, Li Changchun, before Comrade Rudd set off to visit Comrade Obama?

While Mr Rudd's office released minimal information about the engagement, China's official CCTV news network had a more detailed report.

Mr Rudd's office was not immediately available for additional comment.

The visit comes as the Foreign Investment Review Board mulls state-owned Chinalco's $30 billion grab for a larger share of Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto.

Treasurer Wayne Swan will make the ultimate decision about whether the Chinalco bid is in Australia's national interest and if it will get the go-ahead.

The perceived lack of information about Mr Li's visit has aroused suspicion in some quarters of the Australian media and Senator Joyce has accused Mr Rudd of being downright sneaky.

"My concern is if Mr Rudd is doing side deals to ... secure (votes for his bid on) the UN Security Council," Senator Joyce told AAP.

"Here we have something so palpably of concern to the Australian electorate that is being swept under the carpet.

"I find it outrageous we have to find out from a Chinese source who is having lunch with our prime minister."

Australia is trying to secure enough votes for its 2013-14 bid for a temporary seat on the Security Council. It is taking on Luxembourg and Finland for the two available seats.

Senator Joyce said the easiest way for Mr Rudd to clear up speculation on whether he was lobbied about Chinalco was to disclose what was discussed at the lunch.

"Mr Rudd is being totally and utterly sneaky," he said.

"He is not being forthright and transparent in the way he is acting.

"Why are people concerned about this? It is because he would have been discussing handing sovereignty of our nation to another nation."

According to CCTV, Mr Li told Mr Rudd both countries should maintain high-level exchanges and he extended an invitation to the prime minister and other Australian leaders to visit China.

"(Mr Li) suggested the two countries expand economic cooperation on the basis of mutual benefits," the network reported.

"And Li also suggested that both countries maintain close consultation on major issues such as the financial crisis and climate change."

Mr Rudd, a Mandarin speaker, praised the stimulus measures that China had adopted to deal with the financial crisis, CCTV reported.

A SENIOR Bandidos bikie has been refused bail on weapons charges, with one of his supporters arrested outside a Sydney court for spitting on a photographer.

Bandidos Sergent-at-Arms Mahmoud Dib, 27, appeared briefly in Burwood Local Court today on six weapons-related charges.

He was arrested earlier in the day by detectives investigating a series of shootings in suburban Sydney allegedly involving outlaw bikie gangs.

Wearing a red hooded jumper and supported by a handful of associates, Mr Dib sat silently throughout his brief court appearance.

His lawyer Mohammed Masri did not apply for bail on his behalf, instead asking for the bail hearing to be adjourned until Friday.

Bail was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Dakin, who set down a bail hearing for Friday.

There were dramatic scenes outside the court after police swooped on an associate of Mr Dib for allegedly spitting on a Daily Telegraph news photographer.

A SENIOR Bandidos bikie gang member has been charged with seven firearms offences as police investigate a string of shootings in Sydney's southwest.

Bandidos Sergeant-at-Arms Mahmoud Dib, 27, was arrested about 10am (AEDT) today following a raid on his home on Park Rd in Auburn at 6am.

He has since been charged with six firearms offences, including possessing a firearm in a public place and possessing an unregistered firearm, after gang squad detectives found a loaded gun in a car owned by Mr Dib parked in a Guildford St last Monday.

Acting Superintendent Angelo Memmolo, from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad, said a .45 calibre semi-automatic pistol, loaded with seven bullets, was found in the car.

Mr Dib wasn't in the car at the time, but was in the area, he said.

Acting Supt Memmolo said no drugs or weapons were found in the early morning raid on Mr Dib's home.

However, police have seized two Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which they believe may be stolen.

Mr Dib was refused bail to face Burwood Local Court later today.

NSW police are targeting Sydney's bikie gangs following a fatal brawl at Sydney airport on Sunday in which the 29-year-old brother of a senior Hells Angel was bludgeoned to death.

Australia: Muslim refused employment in Christian school.

Muslim student teacher refused position at Christian college

by Kellie Cameron

A MUSLIM student teacher has labelled a Christian school in Wyndham discriminatory for refusing her a position based on her religion.

But Heathdale Christian College is standing by its decision, saying that as a faith-based school it expects its teachers, including student ones, to support its Christian perspective.

Mother-of-two Rachida Dahlal, 35, has complained to the Equal Opportunity Commission on the grounds of discrimination, prejudice and unequal employment opportunities.

The Hoppers Crossing college where she wanted to do placement said it would not have been in its, or Mrs Dahlal’s, best interests.

Mrs Dahlal said on-the-job training was a requirement of her one-year diploma course in secondary education at Victoria University, and that the college was on a list of schools provided by the university offering trainee positions.

She said she chose Heathdale because it was the closest to her home and her sons’ childcare centre and also one of few schools in Wyndham offering both her specialty subjects of mathematics and French.

“I am Muslim, wear a head scarf, and respect all fellow humans regardless of their beliefs, race, or cultural background,” she said.

Mrs Dahlal said that as a result of the knock-back in February, she had started placement late at The Grange P-12 College in Hoppers Crossing, which did not offer French. She is observing Italian classes, but does not understand the language.

Heathdale principal Reynald Tibben said the Christian school was not the best option for Mrs Dahlal.

“It was not in her interest to expect her to operate in a culture that was different to her own religious standards,” he said. “To expect her to support the Christian ethos and practice of the college would have been unreasonable, just as it would be for me to operate as a teacher in a Muslim school.”

Victoria University acting vice-chancellor Prof John McCallum said it told Mrs Dahlal that the college had a policy of accepting only student teachers whose values were “consistent” with ths school’s.

“Armed with this information, the student decided to proceed to interview with the school,” he said.

Prof McCallum added: “In many instances Muslim students have been successfully placed in Christian schools.”

Mrs Dahlal said she was not told of any policy, only that she would not be able to speak about religion while on placement.

Mr Tibben said the college had offered to let Mrs Dahlal see its French curriculum.

The Equal Opportunity Commission said it could not comment on individual cases because its complaints process was confidential.

Sydneys Occupied Territories: "Taliban of Lakemba" make move on LMA

Breakaway Muslims vote to dismiss executive

Angus Hohenboken, Natalie O'Brien
The Australian
March 24, 2009

A FAULTLINE through the most powerful Muslim organisation in the country deepened last night as a breakaway faction of the Lebanese Muslim Association voted to sack its executive.

The meeting of young MLA members, labelled the "Taliban of Lakemba" by controversial Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali, was held outside Bankstown Town Hall in west Sydney after the group was reportedly shut out of the venue due to security concerns.

The 54 association members at the meeting voted unanimously in favour of motions of no confidence in the board's six executive office-holders.

"All we are asking is for a fair vote in April," Bilal Alameddine said. "From today there will basically be two boards directing what goes on in the (Lakemba) Mosque: nine on our side and six on their side."

Members said that, while the no confidence motions named the board's six office-holders, no one was singled out -- rather it was a vote of no confidence in the executive amid concerns the vote for the new board at the annual general meeting next month would be rigged.

The power struggle is mainly between the younger generation and the old guard, with tensions escalating in recent years.

LMA president Shawky Kassir said the executive would not accept the vote, as the executive was accepted by the majority of the organisation's 400 members.

"There is only one legitimate board," Mr Kassir said. "Irrelevant of its outcome, the meeting was not legal.

"They go and meet wherever they want and whenever they want -- any decision outside the proper procedure of the LMA constitutional law will not be accepted by the members and everybody around the mosque."

One senior Muslim said the younger group were "crazy and will stop at nothing".

The LMA board had previously sent a letter to the members attempting to cancel the meeting, and failed in an attempt to get an injunction in the Supreme Court to stop the meeting going ahead.

Mr Alameddine, who strenuously denied claims the group had Taliban ideology, said the cancelled venue booking was another example of the "political games" being played by the board. "The council asked the police for a risk assessment over the meeting and the police said there was no risk, but the council still cancelled the meeting because of security concerns," he said. "We are not radicals."

Bankstown City Council could not be contacted at the time of going to publication.

Trouble was expected at the Lakemba Mosque last Friday after confrontations last week between supporters of Sheik Hilali and his rivals, but a guest imam from Lebanon gave the sermon instead of Sheik Hilali.

Several scuffles have broken out during prayer times after the Nine Network's A Current Affair played security video footage of Sheik Hilali kicking in a door in his own mosque before calling in the police to report an act of vandalism.

The Muslim youths believe Sheik Hilali staged the vandalism to frame them and gain public support.

Sheik Hilali has denied the allegations and says there is more CCTV footage that proves there was a break-in.

Sydney's Occupied Territories:Sydney Airport Killing aftermath

Gang squad doubled after 15 minutes of airport mayhem

SMH
Alexandra Smith and Jonathan Dart
March 23, 2009 - 4:50PM

An extra 75 officers will be added to the Police Gang Squad to tackle outlaw bikie gangs after yesterday's airport violence, the Premier Nathan Rees announced today.

The increase more than doubles the size of Strike Force Raptor to 125 officers.
Rees: No airport security concerns

The New South Wales Premier announces an extra 75 officers for the Police Gang Squad after violence at Sydney Airport on Sunday.

Mr Rees made the announcement after a briefing from NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.

Mr Scipione - who has had two conversations with the Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty today - said he understood the whole incident at Sydney Airport lasted less than 15 minutes.

He said airport security was a serious issue but would not be drawn on whether there were serious lapses in the way the incident was handled yesterday.

Mr Rees said the government was also considering toughening legislation to enable the declaration of prohibited criminal gangs and their members and restricting access of gang members to working in industries identified as high risk. No detail was provided on these industries.

"We are responding swiftly to these recent brazen acts - I will not stand by while these criminals put innocent people at risk,'' Mr Rees said.

Commissioner Keelty says he will review his officers' response to the airport incident in which a 29-year-old man died.

He admitted that police were caught unaware and said that, among the issues to be reviewed, were police numbers at the airport and the quality of police intelligence gathering before the brawl.

Impressed

But he said he has had initial briefings with the police involved and said he was impressed with the time police took to respond to emergency calls.

"The security at Sydney Airport after yesterday's incident ... the first call to triple-0 went in at 1.43pm yesterday afternoon, the first call to the airport police commander came in at 1.46pm and the first police responded at 1.47, one minute later," he said.

"So in terms of response times, it's all within acceptable response times and responsible standards. [NSW Police] Commissioner [Andrew] Scipione and I have spoken about this this morning and last night and the police were there as soon as practicable."

Mr Keelty said he was unaware of media reports that some officers stood by while the brawl unfolded.

"No I haven't [heard of the reports] and we will of course debrief the response yesterday," he said. "But in my discussions with Police Commissioner Scipione this morning we understand the response was appropriate.

"The fact that four arrests were made straight afterwards demonstrates that there was a good exchange of intelligence from the police who were first to arrive on the scene and to those police who took up the investigation."

Mr Keelty said the next step would be to review CCTV footage of the incident.

He said 14 police officers were on duty at Sydney Airport yesterday afternoon, which is consistent with the number recommended under the 2005 Wheeler report into security at Australia's airports.

"There was a full complement of staff at Sydney Airport, remembering that the staff at the airport are Federal Police people, but they are people with state police experience who are seconded to the Federal Police for airport security," he said.

"In terms of numbers at the airport, this has been reviewed three times and you can only have the number of police there that the threat and the risk examined tells you to put there.

"We will have to look at that in light of what happened yesterday, but there was nothing to suggest this was going to happen before it actually occurred, and of course had we known more about this before it actually occurred, there would have been a different type of response."

45-second rule

But international security protocols state that security staff need to be able to get to all areas within 45 seconds, an international security expert said.

"If you can't achieve 45 seconds, there's almost no point even [monitoring the area]," said the expert, who did not wish to be named.

"Terrorist events, if they are going to occur, are going to occur with the speed and the violence that we saw yesterday.

"You don't have time to wait five minutes for a response team to get there."

It had amazed him that a violent brawl resulting in a man's death had occurred at Sydney Airport, presumed to be a relatively secure public area.

"However, I'm not surprised. Australia pays lip service to its security at airports," he said.

He called for more stringent entry requirements for Australian Federal Police and changes to security procedures.

"If we look [at airports] overseas, the security is across the extreme perimeter of the building, prior to the entry, whereas in Australia the security action is only after people check in."

While it may have been difficult to predict a stainless steel bollard would have been used to bludgeon someone, the expert said authorities also had to be more vigilant in ensuring nothing at the airport could be used as a weapon.

Qantas, which operates the T3 check-in terminal where the brawl occurred, expressed shock but said the matter was one for police and that it would not comment further.

It said it was responsible only for screening passengers and that "visitors to the public area of the terminal ... are not screened".

Background

In a turf war, victims will be mown down

by Paul Kent
The Daily Telegraph
February 05, 2009 12:00am

A SCRAP of iron 4m long lay in the middle of Crystal St. The message was clear: it is only a matter of time until an innocent gets killed.

At the 7-Eleven across the road from the Hells Angels' Petersham clubhouse a green 4WD drive remained with its windows blown in.

The driver was paying for petrol when the bomb went off.

Shopfront windows were shattered, debris powdered the road, the awning in front of the clubhouse was splintered at violent angles.

Nobody was killed. Not yesterday, anyway. Tomorrow, who knows? Sydney is in the middle of a bikie war, and it is worse than any of us had thought.

Police are still uncertain who was behind yesterday's bombing - mostly because there are too many candidates to pinpoint one.

It is not as easy as saying the Hells Angels, for example, are at war with the Rebels, so it must have been the Rebels. All the gangs are at war with each other, perhaps prompted because a new gang, called Notorious, has emerged.

In their grab for turf, Notorious has almost certainly sent rival gangs back to old battle lines.

But the police know it is much worse. Within the gangs, chapters are at war with chapters.

Then on top of this there are the ethnic gangs, Lebanese and Asian, who supply and deal drugs and might have had their own point to prove to the Hells Angels yesterday.

Sydney is in fear, and rightfully so.

The Hells Angels have promised retribution for yesterday's bombing. If they know who it was then they are one step ahead of the police, who need help.

Naturally, the Hells Angels are not saying. Certainly revenge will come, and at what cost? For starters, the old rules no longer apply.

Where businesses and homes were once off limits, police fear the modern bikie who behaves as if nothing is sacred.

These police do not have a clue what is happening.

They do not know why it started. And they do not know exactly who is involved - other than to say all of them are.

Yesterday, the outmanned NSW Police picked through the debris hoping to find something that would take them somewhere.

They worked for hours.

Meanwhile Premier Nathan Rees, called to action by a frightened public, responded with silence.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd continued selling insulation for homes.

Bullets are being fired into houses with kids' bikes in the front yard.

The windows were blown out of Crystal Building Supplies next door to the clubhouse.

A sign on the side of the building read: "Reinforcing and building products, Open six days a week."

Must have been the day off.

Behind Sydney's bikie bloodshed: two gangs 'out of control'

SMH
Arjun Ramachandran
March 23, 2009 - 4:31PM

The president of one of two Hells Angels chapters in Sydney was one of the three men "ambushed" by members of the "out of control" Comanchero club at Sydney Airport yesterday, a source close to the bikie community says.

Derek Wainohu, president of the Guildford chapter, has been working to get bikie clubs to resolve their disputes peacefully, the source said.

He was returning from an anniversary party in Melbourne with a fellow Hells Angel and his brother when they were "set upon" by members of the rival club, the source said.

In the ensuing violence, the 29-year-old brother - who was not a Hells Angel member - was killed after he was bashed repeatedly on the head with a metal bollard.

"It was a social thing, an anniversary in Melbourne ... it may have been a membership anniversary for one of the [Hells Angels] members in Melbourne," the source said.

The incident bolstered opinion in the bikie community that the Comanchero and Notorious were "rogue groups" that were not viewed as genuine outlaw motorcycle groups, he said.

"They are out of control. They have a very strong Lebanese presence. They have a very strong leaning towards a much more radical approach," he said.

This "radical approach" was upsetting other clubs as the Government considers tougher legislation against bikie clubs that would allow them to be declared outlaw organisations.

"Because of the situation in South Australia, there has been a very, very strong push to establish a more appropriate methodology to dealing with issues between [clubs]," the source said.

"Derek is the driving force to try and get something in NSW so when there's a problem or disagreement in clubs it's resolved essentially around a boardroom table ... [and] none of this caper seen in Sydney.

"But what we are facing is a small minority of clubs leaning towards violence."

He described Notorious as "out of control" and the Comanchero as "mad dogs" of the outlaw motorcycle club scene.

"They are viewed as gangsters putting colours on their backs as some sort of camouflage [to make people think they are bikies]."

Even worse, the Comancheros were supporting smaller "junior" clubs that carry out acts of violence while wearing the colours of rival clubs including the Bandidos and Hells Angels.

He said senior members of those clubs had even approached senior members of the Lebanese community to try to bring the younger outlaws under control.

"They said: 'These guys are using our colours. Can you pull them into line?' " he said.

The source was not sure of the exact motivation for yesterday's attacks, but suggested Wainohu's views on some issues might have made him a target of the Comanchero.

"Wainohu has been quite parochial in relation to patriotism," he said.

"He's very vocal about the things going on in the Middle East, terrorism coming into Australia ... and on following the Australian way."

He did not anticipate swift retribution, citing the absence of an immediate "hit back" attack after the firebombing of the Hells Angel clubhouse in Petersham last month.

"I think it's the first time very senior members of the Hells Angels have been targeted in this manner. It's a very dangerous thing to do.

"But if retaliation is to occur I think it will be very controlled and measured. I don't think it will come rapidly."

While Hells Angels would have concluded "something has to be done", this could be a number of options that included retaliation or a demand for compensation.

He did not believe bikie clubs would drop their conciliatory approach to resolving disputes as a result of the attack.

"These are very intelligent men with an atypical upbringing.

"Many will be still trying to engage with these clubs and trying to bring about some sort of change."

Mohamed Hasan raped woman in Melbourne's north, fled the country

News.com.au
March 23, 2009 06:51pm

A MAN jumped bail and fled Australia after raping a woman while she slept following a night of drinking, a court has been told.

The Victorian County Court heard the woman and a friend met a man at a club in December 2005 and went with him to a house in Melbourne's north, where they met several others including the accused, Mohamed Hasan.

Several men, including Hasan, 26, made advances towards the victim, which she rejected.

When she decided to go to sleep in another room she was awoken by Hasan having sex with her, the court was told.

Hasan, formerly of Heidelberg Heights, has pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one of failing to answer bail.

Hasan initially denied the rape, telling police he was drunk at the time and could not remember anything but DNA tests linked him to the crime.

He was charged in July 2006 but a month later fled Australia in a panic while on bail, his lawyer Richard Backwell said.

Immigration officials told police in 2008 that Hasan was possibly living in London, where he was later taken into custody and deported.

He was arrested on arrival at Melbourne Airport in September last year.

The court heard Hasan initially arrived in Australia a decade ago after fleeing war in his native Somalia and had endured personal tragedy.

Hasan did not usually drink alcohol and was ashamed by his offending, the court heard.

Mr Backwell asked judge Jeanette Morrish to impose a shorter than usual parole term, saying his client's offending was an "aberration" in an otherwise blameless life.

But prosecutor Michael Hannan said that by fleeing Victoria, Hasan had delayed his case by at least two years, causing his victim further anguish.

Mr Hannon added that Hasan had taken advantage of his victim while she slept and was indifferent to the risk of pregnancy and disease.

Mr Hannan said the jail term needed to deter others from similar offending and protect the community.

Hasan was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on April 3.

The left and the apologist for multiculturalism in Australia, often cite the diversity of cusine and music as the major benefit of the policy of Multiculturalism and cultural diversity, in Sydney alone Police estimate that at least 100 young Australian Girls ("Aussie sluts" "Aussie Pigs") have been Gang / Raped by members of the "Religion of Peace" during the year prior to the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
I have often thought, if these are the main advantages of destroying Australian society, ie Cusine and Music, how much more easy it would have been to give these and all other Australian school girls, and any Australian who wanted to, ethnic cooking classes at school rather than to have any of them suffer the "other benefit" that the Left and the apologists for their wicked ideology have let loose upon Australia, but will never, in a month of Sunday's acknowledge.

Australian Labor Party Rudd deserts a sinking Socialist ship for Obama's like thinking.

Labor party sells out

Piers Akerman
News.com.au
Saturday, March 21, 2009

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd will be in his favourite place this week - that is, a long way from Australia.

In jetting off - again - he brings tomind the old joke that was told about former governor general and former foreign affairs minister Bill Hayden, and former prime ministers Paul Keating and Bob Hawke. In the routine, the three men were asked about their favourite sounds.

Hawke said it was an MCG-sized crowd cheering him, Keating said it was one of Mahler’s symphonies - and Hayden said it was the tinkling of ice as the drinks trolley rolled down the first-class aisle on a Qantas jet taking off for Europe.

The current Prime Minister could easily be substituted for Hayden, so long as no one mentioned alcopops.

Rudd leaves an Australia that, solely because of his Labor government’s policies, is going to suffer unnecessarily more grief in the current global fiscal stuff-up.

Australia had minimal exposure to the lunatic sub-prime mortgages that were introduced into the US as a sop to left-wing legislators from the Democratic Party, the Australian economy was in surplus when Rudd and his team of economic nincompoops came to office, Australia had a cushion in place that could have softened the reduction in international markets.

But Rudd and his neophyte economics team nominally headed by Treasurer Wayne Swan, but really run by Treasury head Ken Henry who has succumbed to the siren song of political power, have pulled all the wrong reins.

They talked down the economy when they should have been talking it up - but they were determined to attempt to smear the Howard-Costello team’s outstanding legacy in the process.
Inflation was the killer, they insisted.

It wasn’t. They were.

Now, as Kevin 747’s aircraft pumps out more carbon dioxide (thank goodness CO2 is good for the planet and essential for plant life and not the poisonous polluter Kevin claims it to be), his new IR legislation and his planned greenhouse bill will choke off Australian jobs.

But, as the advertisements used to say, there is more - however, in this case it’s not a nice set of steak knives. Rudd and his cohort have so depleted the nation’s savings that the federal Government is now planning to axe a central part of Labor’s health policy: the universality ofthe Medicare safety net.

Introduced by the Whitlam Labor government in 1973, the safety net has always enjoyed bipartisan support - until the arrival of the Rudd vandals in Canberra.

Rudd and his horde now wish to break that compact, despite a specific election promise backed by a flood of media statements he and current Health Minister Nicola Roxon both issued. In what will be one of the most disastrous attacks on the Australian families Rudd claims to champion, he will redefine who is rich and who is poor by introducing a form of means test at a time when household wealth is extremely transitory.

Families who save will be caught up in a pincer movement. If they safeguard their earnings to give themselves the security they desire in order to have children, they will find themselves too wealthy to benefit from Medicare.

Yet, when one member of the family stops working to stay home with their new children, their income will drop just at a time when they need to meet extra costs.

The chronically ill will be hit and unable to meet the cost of specialist care; the elderly will find themselves unable to get specialist care when it is needed, because of the lengthening waiting lists, and the younger people wanting to have families will find themselves excluded because both husband and wife work.

Under Rudd’s plan, hard-working couples would be denied the safety net because they’re too wealthy, but be able to access it once they’ve paid up - because they would then be poor.

It doesn’t make sense, any more than it does slugging self-funded retirees and removing them from self-sufficiency.

Particularly hit will be those families seeking to use IVF. This is no small percentage now. On the percentages, one child in every Sydney classroom is now the product of IVF treatment, which is responsible for the birth of 11,000 children a year.

When asked last week about his plans for cancer patients and young couples on IVF treatment, Rudd retreated into the meaningless gibberish he now resorts to whenever he is challenged in Parliamentary Question Time.

The closest the Rudd government has come to acknowledging its devious plan to dump the Medicare safety net came in the Senate when Queensland Labor Senator Joe Ludwig admitted that the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission “will do more work on the safety net’’.
Labor is committed to destroying jobs during the current economic downturn, now it has revealed that the health safety net is no longer sacrosanct.

Parliament is now on holiday until the May Budget session but there are many serious questions that need answering.

Jobs, health, and the lack of a strategic plan in Afghanistan where 10 Australian soldiers have now been killed in the war Kevin Rudd wanted to fight, as opposed to the Iraq conflict, which he wanted to run from and leave our allies in the lurch.

Watch our Prime Minister duck the hard issues during his press conferences over the next six weeks.

It’s not personal, it’s just politics, but the only sound Kevin wants to hear is the ice rattling on the drinks trolley on his own jet.

New bikie gang linked to western Sydney drive-by shootings

A WOMAN associated with the Notorious outlaw motorcycle gang has been charged in relation to two drive-by shootings in Sydney's west.

Six people including a baby were in a house on Indigo Way, Prospect, when shots were fired at the property about 12.10am yesterday.

No one in the house was injured.

Minutes earlier, two pensioners inside a home on Taworri Rd, Doonside, escaped injury when the house was hit by a spray of gunfire.

Detectives investigating the drive-by shootings yesterday arrested a woman in a car in Leigh St, Guildford West, about 7pm after finding a revolver in her handbag.

Police believe she has ties with the Notorious gang.

The 24-year-old Prospect woman was taken to Merrylands police station and charged with possessing a firearm.

She is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.

Meanwhile, the Kings Cross-based Notorious are embroiled in a gang war with the Hell's Angels and Rebels over ethnic and territorial disputes.

Neighbours in Taworri Rd said yesterday the home at the centre of the drive-by had been raided by police about a year ago.

But the elderly couple at the home during the drive-by said the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

"I heard this bang, bang, bang more than I could count and I thought that it was an electrical problem with an appliance, maybe the stove," the 64-year-old man said.

"Then I felt pain in my leg and it was glass from the windows.

"(The room) was filled with haze, smoke. I've never experienced anything like this before."

His 63-year-old wife escaped being shot in the head by about 15cm.

"If I had sat up in bed I would have been killed," she said.

The Range Rover believed to have been used in the shootings - stolen from Waterloo on March 7 - was found burning in Blacktown.

Premier Nathan Rees said yesterday he would consider changing the law to help police catch and prosecute people involved in drive-by shootings.

Religious divide drives bikie war

AN ANCIENT religious enmity is at the centre of a new conflict in the Sydney bikie scene, with a new gang comprised mainly of Sunni Muslims warring with a group of bikies with a Shiite Muslim background.

While detectives continue to investigate the February 4 bombing of a Hells Angels clubhouse in Crystal Street, Petersham, police and other sources are indicating that the city chapter of the Comanchero is involved in an escalating feud with a new club, Notorious.

The president of Notorious is a Lebanese-Australian with a long-standing association with a bikie from a colourful Sydney Sunni Lebanese family. The two are among Sydney's original "Nike" bikies - sporting white sneakers, fashionable T-shirts and clean-shaven instead of the traditional boots, dirty vests and bushy beards - and both are from Sunni families from Sydney's west.

Notorious is considered by gang squad detectives to be the prime suspect in the Crystal Street bombing. One of its mottos is "Only the dead see the end of war" and its "colours", or coat of arms, is a turbaned skeleton holding twin pistols with "Original Gangster" beneath it. Today is the first time the club's colours have been revealed publicly.

On the other side of the conflict is the president of the Comanchero City Crew, a Beirut-born Shiite who grew up in the St George area. Comanchero has been one of the motorcycle gangs that have embraced the new breed of "Nike" bikie, and have been recruiting from the Lebanese and Islander communities for several years.

Traditionally, Lebanese Muslim migrants to Sydney have been geographically and religiously divided. The Sunni majority live in Sydney's west and south-west, mainly around Auburn and Bankstown, while the Shiite minority live in the St George area. "The two groups have no love lost between them," a senior police source told the Herald.

They have been fighting since the Sunni bikie, one of Sydney's most well-known gangsters, became president of the Nomads Parramatta chapter in the late 1990s.

In 2006, he was jailed over a Newcastle shooting. The following year, the Parramatta chapter's Granville headquarters was bombed, allegedly by the Comanchero, and the chapter subsequently disbanded.

A few of its members formed Notorious, probably at the request of the Sunni bikie.

"[The Sunni bikie] left the Nomads while he was on remand," said an investigator who has watched the two groups for years. "He was telling people he was planning to start up his own club. Around about the same time, Notorious appeared."

Unlike the Sunni bikie and the Notorious president, the Comanchero City Crew president was born in Beirut and grew up in Sydney's southern suburbs. He appeared on television in 2005 following the Cronulla riot and Maroubra reprisal violence, when he met members of the Bra Boys to calm tensions.

When the Herald asked the president of the Hells Angels city chapter about the bombing, he was succinct: "I've got nothing to say, thank you."

But bikie sources said the Angels believe Notorious may be responsible for the attack, which closed down Crystal Street for a day and damaged seven neighbouring businesses.

Neither police nor the Hells Angels have established why Notorious may have attacked the club, though the senior police source offered a simple answer: "They're just bloody crazy."

In the latest violence, a Comanchero member was shot in the leg when he was confronted by five Hells Angels at a park in Silverwater on February 7.

THEY hate Australia, idolise Islamic extremism and — by their own admission— "target Aussies" on the streets.

These are the "Parra Boyz", a gang of hoodlums causing havoc around Parramatta.

Most are aged in their late teens, though police say some are adults who lead the younger members and nerecruits. The group, which more recently became known as Asesinoz MC> has about 42 followers — all of a Middle Eastern background.

Students at RMIT University in Melbourne protest over lack of Muslim prayer rooms

News.com.au
March 22, 2009

MELBOURNE Muslim university students will protest tomorrow, saying they are being sexually harassed and discriminated against due to a lack of prayer rooms.

But RMIT University management deny this, insisting Muslim students are well catered for.

The RMIT Islamic Society want Muslim-only prayer rooms on the university's city campus.

In late 2007, construction work on the building that contained a dedicated Muslim prayer room meant the facility was demolished.

The Islamic society said the university reneged on its promise to replace that with another room.

"As a result, students and staff have been forced to pray outside in the heat of summer and the cold of winter," the society's website said.

It alleged females have been subjected to sexual abuse, harassment and religious vilification while praying.

They are now forced to pray two at a time in cramped women's rooms, corridors and empty classrooms.

The society said "enough is enough", insisting it was sick of being given the run around and would hold a mass protest at the university on Monday afternoon.

"No longer can we remain quiet and have students compromise between their safety and prayers, RMIT made a promise, it must fulfil it," the website said.

But the university described the action as "unfortunate and unnecessary".

There are already eight Muslim prayer rooms across the university's three campuses, Dr Maddy McMaster, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) said.

"The university's policy is that prayer rooms in its spiritual centre are multi-faith, open to bookings by members of all faiths," she said.

Muslims get preferential access to two of those rooms.

"With space at a premium on our city campus, we have bent over backwards to find an amicable solution," she said.

Gestures of good faith have been rejected, she insisted.

"Multi-faith spaces are commonly accepted as supporting a range of religious practices, including those of the Muslim faith.

"It is disappointing that the RMIT Islamic Society chooses to reject established multi-faith principles," she said.

The society did not respond to AAP requests for comment.

I agree "enough" IS indeed "enough" you are not forced to prey anywhere, you can simply piss off back to wherever you believe you will be able to practice, and impose your stone age cult with like thinkers.

Sydney's Occupied Territories: Rape victim too distraught to speak after video

Rape victim too distraught to speak after video

By Larissa Cummings
The Daily Telegraph

A TEENAGE girl who woke up next to one of the notorious "K" brothers with her underwear missing and her skirt hitched up is too frightened to watch the video that forced her attacker to admit he sexually assaulted her.

MRK, one of four Pakistani brothers in jail for a spree of sex attacks on teenage girls in 2002, was 17 when he was filmed indecently touching and assaulting the unconscious 15-year-old.

In the footage, MRK directs the person holding the camera where to film as he repeatedly violates the girl.

Despite claiming he has no recollection of the offences, MRK, now 24, pleaded guilty in December to two counts of aggravated sexual assault after he was shown the video evidence.

An agreed statement of facts tendered to the District Court at MRK's sentencing hearing yesterday said the incident happened after the girl watched the 2002 Mardi Gras parade with the brothers in the city.

Afterwards, she went with them to their Ashfield home where they plied her with alcohol until she grew dizzy, vomited and passed out. She woke the next morning to find MRK next to her in bed, her skirt around her waist and her underwear on the floor.

Nine months later, police discovered footage of the girl being molested by MRK on one of several video cassettes found in a search of the brothers' home.

The girl has told police she refuses to view the assault because she is "ashamed of what it might contain".

MRK was charged in December 2002, but before his trial the girl told police she did not want the prosecution to proceed and charges were dropped.

In July 2007, three months before MRK - who was serving 10 years - was eligible to be released on parole, police charged him with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and three counts of aggravated indecent assault after the girl provided a further statement.

He will be sentenced this month.

MRK is in Goulburn's supermax prison where he has asked to be kept in protection, the court heard. "Some of his brothers were brutally bashed last year . . . and he holds great fears for his safety," lawyer Phillip Young said.

Darwiche denied 'vengeance', and bail

The Daily Telegraph

March 20, 2009 05:30pm

A SYDNEY man accused of planning to avenge the shooting murder of his brother has been denied bail, despite pleading for release to help care for his dead sibling's children.

Michael Darwiche, 40, sat quietly in the dock of Bankstown Local Court on Friday as his barrister argued for bail on eight firearms charges.

Darwiche is the brother of Abdul Darwiche, shot dead in a hail of bullets in front of his children near a Sydney service station last Saturday.

Since the killing, there has been speculation a long-standing gang feud between the Darwiches and the rival Razzak and Fahda families would be reignited.

Darwiche was arrested about 9pm (AEDT) on Thursday at Bankstown.

"At 9pm yesterday the defendant was the passenger in the front seat of a motor vehicle driving along Salvia Avenue in Bankstown,'' barrister Michael Coroneos told the court.

The blue BMW was subsequently searched by police, with Darwiche claiming he and the driver, Michael Darwick (Michael Darwick), were on their way to a McDonald's restaurant.

However, underneath the rear passenger seat of the BMW, police allegedly found a Glock 23 pistol and an amount of ammunition, a street directory, and the names and addresses of the Fahda family.

"There is nothing to suggest that he (Michael Darwiche) had knowledge of the existence of the firearm when he got in the front passenger seat,'' Mr Coroneos said.

He insisted the police case relied wholly on speculation.

"There is nothing that can be placed before this court that this person has done anything to ... present a danger to the community,'' he added.

Mr Coroneos argued his client, a director of a construction company, should be granted bail to continue his business and financially support his wife and five children, as well as the children of his murdered brother.

Sergeant Wayne Druery admitted much of the evidence was speculative but asked Magistrate Paul Falzon to consider the protection of the community and refuse bail.

"This defendant comes before you not on one matter in which there is no presumption in favour of bail, but two,'' Sgt Druery said to Mr Falzon.

"It is true that we are still waiting on scientific evidence, but we say at this stage that there is strong circumstantial evidence.''

Mr Falzon noted Darwiche's strong community ties and willingness to provide surety in excess of $800,000 and surrender his passport, but denied bail.

Darwiche is due to face Sydney Central Local Court on May 14 by audio visual link.

He and his co-accused face eight charges, including unlicensed possession of an unregistered firearm and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Darwiche, 36, did not apply for bail and is due before Sydney's Central Local Court next Friday.
