It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of Gillard,the ALP,Brown,the Greens and the “Independents” than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such people as their leaders.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Gillard,the ALP, Brown the Greens,and the “Independents” who are  a mere symptom of what ails Australia. Blaming the Princess and Prince‘s of the fools, should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made them Princess and Prince’s.

The Commonwealth can survive Gillard and Brown, who are, after all, merely  fools. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made them their leaders."

Council rejects Jewish boundary plan SMH Amy Corderoy August 24, 2011 TEMPERS flared as Ku-ring-gai Council voted last night to reject a plan by its Orthodox Jewish community to erect a symbolic spiritual boundary within its borders. Some members of the Jewish community in the area had been planning for more than five years to erect the eruv, an enclosed area that allows Orthodox Jews to push and carry objects such as prams out of doors on the Sabbath. But despite their claims the 36 poles and adjoining wires needed were similar to those in other suburbs and cities across the world which had little impact on residents, a majority of councillors said the residents they represented were opposed to it. ''This is not New York, it's not Bondi, this is St Ives and Ku-ring-gai,'' said Councillor Cheryl Szatow, who seconded the motion to reject the proposal. The meeting literally heated up as the airconditioning broke and more than 100 people crammed into the council chambers. Most were adorned with bright yellow hats indicating their support for the structure. Residents opposed to the eruv said it would be visual pollution, entailed the cutting of tree canopies and brought an unwanted incursion of religious beliefs into public life. Elizabeth Gipps, 81, a Jewish Holocaust survivor who has lived in Ku-ring-gai for more than 50 years, said erecting an eruv would create a ''ghetto'', which most Jewish people would want to escape. ''If it is an inconvenience for a minority of Orthodox Jews … they should accept it and don't make a problem,'' she said. But David Guth, a long-time resident and the chairman of the Northern Eruv group, said it would not have an impact on the wider community but would make the lives of mothers and the disabled much easier. The group would seek to have the decision overturned in the land and environment court. The chief executive of the Jewish Board of Deputies, Vic Alhadeff, said: ''The test of a democracy is how it accommodates difference and celebrates diversity. It is deeply regrettable that the council has not recognised this.''

Outrage at Indonesian court verdict

AN Indonesian court has jailed a minority sect member for six months for defending himself and others from a lynch mob which killed three of his friends earlier this year.

The sentence is the same or stiffer than those handed out last month to 12 Islamic extremists who led the mob in the February rampage, including a teenager who was filmed crushing one victim's head with a stone.

Human rights activists expressed outrage that one of those wounded by the mob should be jailed for longer than the leaders of the violence.

A panel of judges today found Ahmadiyah sect member Deden Sudjana guilty of ill-treatment and ignoring an order to evacuate the sect's property in Cikeusik, western Java, as the armed mob arrived.

"The defendant failed to act following the police order to evacuate," one of the judges told Serang district court.

"Video footage shows the defendant started punching a man with a black jacket."

Wearing a traditional batik shirt, the 48-year old defendant heard the sentence in stunned silence. Later he told AFP he was "disappointed" with the ruling.

"It's embarrassing. I'm purely a victim who has been criminalised in my own country," he told AFP.

"There was no police order to evacuate and I hit the man because he entered our house of worship, calling us infidels, and ordered people to kill us. Isn't it normal that I hit the man as an act of self-defence?"

Human Rights Watch deputy Asia director Elaine Pearson said: "The inconsistency between the trials of those who killed the Ahmadiyah and the trial of Deden Sudjana is appalling and smacks of injustice.

"Those responsible for the deaths of three Ahmadis got three to six months, and Sudjana also got six months - seems like the Ahmadiyah face blatant discrimination not just from Islamic militant mobs, but also from an Indonesian court."

One of the mob, members of Indonesia's majority Sunni sect, almost severed Sudjana's left hand with a machete during the February 6 onslaught, which pitted about 20 Ahmadiyah followers against around 1,500 enraged fanatics.

A secretly filmed video of the Cikeusik rampage sparked international concern when it appeared online within days of the attack.

The footage shows police fleeing the scene as the mob - armed with machetes and knives and shouting abuse at the "infidels" - launched their attack.

A handful of Ahmadiyah men tried to defend the property with stones and slingshots but were quickly overwhelmed.
