More illegal arrivals during campaign than last 6 years of Coalition Government,

More people have illegally arrived by boat during the election campaign than arrived in the last six years of the Coalition Government, Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Scott Morrison and Shadow Minister for Justice, Customs and Border Protection, Michael Keenan said today.
“The sixth boat arrival of the campaign means that 305 people have now arrived illegally during this election campaign, well above the 220 people that arrived over the last six years of the Coalition Government,” Mr Morrison said.
“The boats keep coming under Julia Gillard. This is the 153rd boat to arrive since Labor dismantled the Coalition’s strong border protection policies and the 85th this year alone. Yet another arrival shows that as long as Labor is in business, the people smugglers are in business,” he said.
“The Labor Party’s empty rhetoric on border protection was again exposed last night by South Australian Senator Anne McEwen, leader of Labor’s South Australian Senate ticket.
“At a debate organised by Getup! Senator McEwen was asked by moderator Senator Nick Xenophon if Kevin Rudd’s description of people smugglers as ‘scum’ was an example of emotive language that was inappropriate in discussing refugees and asylum seekers.
“In an extraordinary defence of the people smuggling racket, Senator McEwen stated that ‘People smugglers are just people trying to make a buck.’
“Julia Gillard must explain today whether she agrees with Senator McEwen who has betrayed Labor's real views on this issue and why Labor abolished the strong border protection regime they inherited from the Coalition.
“In defending the vile trade of people smuggling as ‘just people trying to make a buck’ Senator McEwen demonstrated Labor’s lack of commitment to stopping this abhorrent trade,” Mr Morrison said.
Mr Keenan said: “Today we have seen further evidence of the cost of this government’s failure to secure Australia’s borders, particularly to the people of Western Australia.
“The government’s secret plan to expand the Curtin Detention Centre is proof Labor has no intention and no resolve to stop the boats.

Four men get life in jail for murdering UK couple in bungled 'honour killings'

FOUR men who set fire to the wrong house in an attempted honour killing have been sentenced to life in prison after they were convicted of murdering a couple in northwestern England.
The men, who intended to torch the house of a man who was having an affair with the sister of one of the arsonists, targeted the wrong address in Blackburn and killed a married couple, Sky News reported.
Abdullah Mohammed, 41 and his wife Aysha, 39, were overcome by smoke in their home and died later in the hospital. They are survived by their three children aged nine, 14 and 19.
Preston Crown Court judge Justice Henriques said it was "nearly impossible to imagine a worse case of arson than this. You have wreaked devastation on a blameless, devout family."
Justice Henriques added: "It is a most cruel irony that two such devout members of the community, both deeply religious, should have lost their lives to such a perverted and wicked act."
Three of the men drove from their homes in east London. Habib Iqbal, 25, Sadek Miah, 23, and Mohammed Miah [no relation], 19, were recruited by Hisamuddin Ibrahim, 21.
Ibrahim was jailed for a minimum of 28 years. His accomplices were handed sentences between 19 and 25 years in prison.
Ibrahim was said to be enraged that his sister, Hafija Gorji, was divorcing her husband and had begun an affair.
It was said Ibrahim wanted to punish her lover on behalf of his family - but the arsonists poured petrol into the wrong house as the Mohammeds were asleep.
CCTV footage showed a car belonging to Sadek Miah’s mother in the area early in the morning. Three figures got out with a container. The attack was not filmed but the men returned to the car and drove off without headlights.

Witness wants to hide her face behind burqa during Islamic school fraud trial

A JUDGE is set to decide this week whether a Muslim woman can wear a full burqa while giving evidence before a jury in a fraud case.
West Australian District Court Judge Shauna Deane is due to hear submissions tomorrow from lawyers for the prosecution and defence regarding the witness, who wishes to wear the burqa.
The woman is a strict Muslim who does not want to show her face to men. Defence lawyers raised concerns about how the jury could read the woman's expressions if they cannot see her face.
The jury in the case was discharged yesterday after the estimated time for the fraud trial of a Muslim college director blew out from 10 days to five weeks.
After the jury was discharged, defence lawyer Mark Trowell said a jury would not be able to "make a proper assessment" of the witness if they could not see her face.
He said it was believed to be the first time in Australia that a witness had wanted to wear a full burqa.
Anwar Sayed has been charged with fraudulently obtaining $1.125 million from the state and federal governments by falsifying the number of students at the Muslim Ladies College of Australia in Perth's south.
To think the good judge has to take time out to consider this absurd request from this arse clown.
World first surf centre for NSW

THE world's first dedicated national training centre for elite surfers and coaches is to be built on the far north coast of NSW.
The multi-million dollar facility, to be built by Surfing Australia, was launched on Saturday at Casuarina by a host of past and present world surfing champions, and federal
Minister for Sport Kate Ellis.

Surfing Australia boss Andrew Stark says the $2 million national surf training centre, which will support the development of more than 3000 elite surfers and coaches each year, will consolidate Australia's place as a world leader in the sport.
"It will provide something no other country's got, and that's a dedicated high-performance facility," he said.
"It's not just about the physical structure of the facility. It's also about the new levels of sport science and coaching that we're going to bring in, to enable all the up and coming juniors and the current superstars of our sport to really take advantage of the system.
"The world's best surfers will have the opportunity to come to a centre that's specifically designed for their training needs."
Surfing Australia will involve two-time world champion Mick Fanning and world number two Joel Parkinson in the design details of the building and consult them on specific requirements.
"We want to make sure that the likes of Mick and Joel have a training environment that suits the needs of the world's top-end surfers, who are going to have something tailor made for what they're trying to achieve ... the long-term vision is to continue to produce world champions," Mr Stark said.
Parkinson believes the centre will not only give youngsters with exceptional talent everything they could dream of, but also hone the skills of elite surfers.
"It'll be somewhere we'll be able to fine-tune our abilities in and out of the ocean with training, the mechanics of surfing, and how you apply all that to the water," he said.
"When I injured my ankle last year I went to a rehab facility in France where I learned some of the most amazing advances in their sports, and to be able to apply some of those to surfing would be awesome.
"This centre will not only keep Australian surfing at the top, but international surfing as well - I think Australia is seen as the most successful surfing country in the world, and we want to keep it that way."
I cannot wait to read that the Australian Labor Party makes it compulsory that men and women must use a gender neutral surf board, aka. the 80’s fiasco of the Taxpayer funds, some $6,000 + given to a female surf board manufacturer who was designing a surfboard for Labor’s “Wimmin”

English council bans staff from wearing mini-skirts

A COUNCIL has warned female employees they could be sent home if their skirts are too short.
A memo sent by bosses at Southampton City Council, in southern England, has instructed the council's 400 staff to dress appropriately for work, The Daily Mail reports.
Social workers, youth workers and other employees in the council's children's services department were told to "carefully consider their work attire".
Women were advised to wear trousers or skirts of "reasonable length" - "not mini-skirts".
The leaked email said that council bosses would in the coming weeks "be speaking to staff about the clothes they wear to work.
It adds: "Please try to dress smartly and thoughtfully, in line with other professionals you come across in your day-to-day work, and in a way that shows respect to children and families."
Staff are said to be outraged by the email. The council's union secretary Mike Tucker told The Dail Mail: "I would have thought the council has got better things to do than impose a regimented approach to what people wear."
Yes I know there is no mention of Sharia or Islam in this story, no mention of who is offended by the chosen dress code of English women employed in the UK Public Service.
Now lets see, Is it the Irish, the Scottish , the UK Catholic's, the UK Protestants, perhaps its the Welsh who are offended by the wearing of mini skirts by Female Public / Social Security staff, yes I guess these formentioned groups have been simmering away now for 60years or so, resenting 24/7 the attire of the female staff that delivered into their social security account their FREE RIDE.

Centrelink unwittingly revealed a clash between Islamic laws and Western life, writes Bellinda Kontominas.
TO THE people in their ethnic community, the man and his wife showed all the hallmarks of a happy and loving marriage.
But it was all a lie. The sad reality of being caught between Eastern culture and Western values, they told a court.
The man, a professional in his home country, had converted to Islam in order for the couple's marriage to be legally recognised. But when they separated after moving to Australia, they maintained the outward appearance of a married couple to avoid physical harm, or even death, at the hands of Islamic extremists back home, they claimed.
The pair told of their clandestine double life at a District Court trial in which the husband was charged with lying to Centrelink by claiming he was single in order to obtain a Newstart allowance.
The two cannot be named after the District Court Judge Stephen Norrish made a non-publication order preventing their identification to avoid harm to them and their family overseas.
''It is feared that if there be publicity in relation to this matter and it gets back to [their home country], then people will die,'' he said.
For this reason, the Herald has omitted details about the couple to maintain their anonymity.
The Crown alleged the couple had never separated and were still mostly living together during the more than five years the husband had fraudulently obtained benefits. But the jury saw differently, acquitting the man of seven charges against him.
The jury was not told he had pleaded guilty to another charge of dishonestly obtaining about $12,000 in unemployment benefits while he was working.
During the trial a former colleague told the court he believed the man was single as there were no shoes kept at the front door.
Another former colleague said he had been untidy and unkempt, which gave the outward appearance he was unmarried. She had felt sorry for him and felt he needed a woman's touch, so she attempted to set him up with a friend during a dinner at her home. A blind date was organised but did not eventuate.
Under Islamic law, marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man is not legally recognised and would be considered an adulterous relationship.
Such a union is usually considered proper and legal if a religious conversion takes place.
An Islamic law expert who gave evidence in the trial told the Herald that separation or divorce, particularly by those who have married in controversial circumstances would result in questions about the legitimacy of the initial conversation. The academic, whom the Herald has chosen not to name, said this could bring shame to the couple's family and result in violence towards them by members of the community.
Often when couples marry under controversial circumstances, such as a religious conversion or without family blessing, the end of that relationship can reignite bad feelings about the match, leading to violence, the academic said.
''[The separation] could have been perceived as proof that these sort of relationships don't work or it could be perceived as additional harm to the family name, reopening old wounds.''
Dr Shakira Hussein, who also gave evidence in the trial, told the Herald there could be ramifications for the couple and their family if he was seen to have abandoned the religion.
An expert in Islamic studies at the University of Melbourne, Dr Hussein said religious minorities in Islamic countries were particularly vulnerable to accusations of blasphemy by neighbours or family members holding grudges.
For this reason, many mixed-marriage couples maintain a happy front. ''In Australia, too, it is considered not good conduct to be too open about marriage break-ups,'' Dr Hussein said.

si Ali is shivering in the teal, wool coat that envelopes her on this wet winter day in Sydney.
She looks bird-like. But behind the fragile-looking exterior is a steely mind that has earned her the distinction of being one of the world's most controversial writers, feminists and activists.
Somali-born Muslim Hirsi Ali was a refugee turned Dutch MP when she helped make Submission, the anti-Islamic short film that led to the assassination of its maker, Theo Van Gogh, in 2004.
Ali received death threats, exacerbated by her public rejection of Islam. Since then she has had bodyguards 24/7. Even in Sydney, plain-clothes police shadow her every move.
Hirsi Ali was eight when her family left Somalia. She was granted asylum in The Netherlands in 1992, after she ran away from an impending arranged marriage. She now lives in the US.
Hirsi Ali emphatically rejects calls in Australia to allow a limited form of female circumcision. The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has discussed backing "ritual nicks", a modified form of genital mutilation.
University of Newcastle's professor of perinatal and infant psychiatry Dr Louise Newman said some doctors had been approached to perform the procedure.
Hirsi Ali, herself a victim of genital mutilation, says girls who underwent a ritual nick in hospital would probably be subjected to the more radical form anyway.
"Most parents who believe in female circumcision believe in the full form," she says. "I can understand where the Australian doctors are coming from, but it's wrong."
Hirsi Ali favours a strict detection system, where girls at risk are medically examined every 12 months to make sure they haven't been mutilated. She advocates severe penalties for parents who try to force their daughters into mutilation.
"An annual check that takes two minutes is far less traumatic than the alternative," she says. "Educating parents against the practice is also key."
Hirsi Ali has written several memoirs: Infidel, The Caged Virgin and the most recent, Nomad, in which she recounts her life after breaking with her family, her religion and how she struggled to be educated and assimilate into Western society.
"I had to learn to question, to fight for my rights and not to submit to everything bad that could happen to me," she says.
Hirsi Ali urges the West to help Muslim immigrants integrate and overcome the temptation of fundamental Islam.
"It's not parents putting children and vulnerable young people in ghettos, but fundamentalists who want them isolated from society.
"Fundamentalists do not want integration," she says." They teach young people that democracy, free thinking, is bad."
Hirsi Ali is now an atheist, and counts British atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins as a close friend.
But she believes Christianity can combat the rise of conservative Islam.
"Churches should do all in their power to win this battle for the souls of humans in search of a compassionate God, who now find that a fierce Allah is closer to hand," she writes in Nomad.
Ex-Nomad bikie boss Sam Ibrahim on teen kidnap charge

FORMER outlaw bikie Hassan "Sam" Ibrahim made two terrible mistakes when he allegedly kidnapped a 15-year-old youth to teach him a lesson for trying to rob his estranged wife's home.
First, he broke the law.
Second, police claim he grabbed the wrong teenager.
The former Nomads bikie boss sat in the dock at Fairfield Local Court as police told how he allegedly kidnapped and assaulted a teenager on the night of April 1.
Ibrahim, 43, from Merrylands, is accused of snatching the 15-year-old youth, who cannot be identified, after the teenager got off a bus and began walking home along Merrylands Rd.
Ibrahim allegedly punched the boy in the face before bundling him into a red Holden Commodore.
The teen was then taken to a nearby park where he was questioned by Ibrahim over the attempted break-in.
It is alleged Ibrahim and two other males then took the teenager to his wife's house at Greystanes.
She allegedly told Ibrahim the teenager was not the one who attempted the break-in.
It is claimed Ibrahim singled out the boy after acting on a loose description of the would-be robber obtained from his wife.
The boy suffered facial cuts and a broken tooth in the attack.
Police from the Middle Eastern Crime Squad arrested Ibrahim in Merrylands about 10am yesterday.
He was charged with one count each of kidnapping and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
He did not apply for bail in the absence of his solicitor, Brett Galloway, as he sat in the dock dressed in a grey jumper and jeans, resting his cuffed hands on his head.
Prosecutor Sergeant Leo Jajaw told the court Ibrahim was already on bail for other matters.
"I'm asking that the matter go to Parramatta," Sgt Jajaw said.
"It is a matter that will be taken over by the DPP (office of the Director of Public Prosecutions)."
Ibrahim is the former head of the Parramatta chapter of the Nomads.
In October last year Ibrahim and Nomads national president Scott Orrock were acquitted over an alleged shootout in Newcastle.
He walked free from Long Bay jail in November last year after he was granted $200,000 bail.
He was ordered not to associate with any members of the Nomads.
Sgt Jajaw said Ibrahim's lawyer was not available to represent him until Friday.
Ibrahim did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.
"Having regard to the extremely serious nature of these matters and the strength of the prosecution case, bail is clearly refused," magistrate Tony Spence said.
Ibrahim is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
He is expected to apply for bail.
