Man 'kicked girl away from life jacket'

AS a four-year-old girl desperately paddled towards a life jacket amid the wreckage of SIEV 221, a man bobbing in the monstrous Christmas Island swell grabbed it and then kicked her away, an inquest has heard.
Local Australian Federal Police officer, Special Constable Shane Adams, stood on the cliffs at Rocky Point on December 15, trying to help the 89 asylum seekers and three crew members whose boat had smashed into rocks.
He spotted the girl after the boat broke apart trying to dog paddle towards a life jacket he had flung into the sea.
Const Adams said he then noticed a man aged about 35 in the water nearby.
"He reached out and grabbed the life jacket, pushed out with his right foot and struck the young girl on the shoulder, pushing her back," he told the inquest on Christmas Island.
That was the last time Const Adams saw the girl.
Before the boat was torn to pieces amid the backwash at Rocky Point, Const Adam said he saw a woman stretching over the railing of the starboard side of the vessel holding a baby in a nappy.
The woman was screaming, 'take my baby, take my baby.'
It was what Const Adams described as a "freak swell" of about five to six metres which destroyed the wooden vessel and caused the roof to collapse.
Underneath the ship's ruptured verandah lay an elderly man, he said.
Const Adams also told the inquest he stood on the razor-sharp rocks and threw down a rope which a man grabbed hold of, but when the asylum seeker got within 10cm of safety he fell back and was not seen again.
The vessel had originally come near the shore under power but while manoeuvring in the rough seas, a blue drum fell off the boat leaking diesel into the sea.
"In my opinion the vessel had now lost its fuel supply," Const Adams said.
"At the same time the smoke exhaust stack started to puff and then stopped ... and the vessel ceased moving forward."
Fellow AFP officer Constable Brett Ford helped bring the dead bodies ashore at Ethel Beach on the other side of the island.
From about 10.30am, bodies of men, women and children were continually unloaded, Const Ford said.
But soon they ran out of body bags and had to wrap the deceased in black, plastic sheets.
This continued until about 4pm later that day.
Claire O'Connor, the lawyer acting for survivors and the families of dead, told the inquest her clients had nothing but praise for locals who rushed to the cliffs that day.
"Many owe their lives to many of the community members who helped, who pointed out to the navy where people might be in the water and provided medical services," Ms O'Connor said.
"It was far beyond what they were expecting and are extremely grateful."
Earlier in the day, Ms O'Connor put to Sergeant Adam Mack, from the West Australian Water Police who coordinated the search and rescue operations, that a factor in the deaths was the poor condition of the boat which she said was "practically a floating coffin".
Sgt Mack replied: "It was an unseaworthy vessel and did not have the appropriate safety equipment and due to other circumstances it caused the vessel to break down, the motor to lose power and crash into the cliffs."
The inquest before WA Coroner Alastair Hope continues.

A PERTH judge says a doctor convicted of sexually assaulting a 'sick and vulnerable"' 19-year-old patient while examining her committed a "despicable" breach of trust.
Suhail Ahmad Khan Durani, 35, was sentenced in the Perth District Court today to two years and four months in prison.
He was convicted last month on three counts of indecently assaulting the woman by grabbing her breasts and two counts of digitally penetrating her without consent.
The offences occurred at Royal Perth Hospital on February 20 last year when the diabetic woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was admitted with high blood sugar levels.
During sentencing submissions, Durani's lawyer George Papamihail asked for a suspended prison sentence, arguing that there were ``exceptional circumstances'' for his client who had already suffered a ``universal fall from grace''.
``He's lost his profession for all time,'' he said
Mr Papamihail said there had not been any other allegations made against his client and the offence was out of character.
He said Durani was not likely to reoffend, so it was ``doubtful'' that a prison sentence would help with any rehabilitation and would only negatively impact on Durani's wife.
``She will be left financially and socially destitute,'' he said.
However, prosecutor Paul Yovich argued that Durani's circumstances were ``not sufficiently exceptional'' to grant a suspended sentence.
While he accepted that Durani's wife and young son were ``innocent victims'', Mr Yovich said they were victims of Durani's conduct and not the law, which had an obligation to deal with Durani.
He said Durani could still apply, at a later date, to become a registered doctor again.
In sentencing, Judge Allan Fenbury said the woman was in hospital due to ``personal neglect'' of her diabetes but had trusted that Durani was carrying out legitimate medical examinations of her rather than seeking sexual gratification.
``Your conduct in pretending to professionally examine and then take sexual advantage of a sick and vulnerable young woman seeking medical treatment was quite despicable,'' he said.
The woman only realised what was happening when Durani tried to kiss her, the judge said.
Judge Fenbury told Durani the effect of his conviction and sentence would be ``obviously catastrophic'' for him and his young family, who have only lived in Australia for three years, having moved from India.
However, he said the fact that Durani did not plead guilty to the charges, and instead required a trial, meant he had to take that into consideration in sentencing him.
``It cannot be said that you are remorseful,'' he said.
Judge Fenbury noted that Durani had several character reference letters from doctors who expressed ``disappointment'' at Durani's conviction, as well as 11 other people who made themselves available by telephone.
``Clearly you were well regarded by your colleagues in the medical profession,'' he said.
Judge Fenbury said Durani had no previous criminal record and had dedicated his life to helping the ill before this incident.
``I have no reason to doubt you were very good at what you did,'' he said.
However, Judge Fenbury said the crime committed was ``too serious'' to warrant a suspended prison sentence.
``Along with your liberty, you stand to lose your livelihood and family home,'' he said.
``Your wife will have to battle on without a husband in a place where she has no family.
``Your son will also have limited access to his father.''
Outside court, Mr Papamihail told reporters his client maintained his innocence and had instructed him to appeal the conviction.
Mr Papamihail said it was not fair for a measure of a man to be made based on one event.
``It's not a matter of me being personally affected,'' he said.
``For every client that I act for, if they tell me that they're innocent, it's important.''
Durani will be eligible for parole after serving 14 months.

A NATIONAL day of protest demanding the burqa be banned has raised fears it could provoke Cronulla riot-style hysteria.
Almost 14,000 people have signed up for Monday's "Ban the Burqa Day", which urges protesters to wear a balaclava or mask.
But Islamic leaders labelled the event racist.
Organiser Kye Keating, 20, instigated the protest with two friends via Facebook after Sydney woman Carnita Matthews used her burqa to quash a jail sentence for deliberately making a false statement to police.
"This event is not aimed at race, it is not aimed at religion," Mr Keating said.
"It is just aimed at concealing your identity in a public place. If everyone is not allowed to do it, no one should be allowed to do it."
Mr Keating, a former hospitality student from Victoria looking for work, has been surprised by interest in the event.
Even an elderly nursing home resident will be among protesters going about with their faces covered.
"It's not so much about adopting our culture and completely dropping your own," Mr Keating said.
"It is just making those slight little changes that make it easier for you to become an Aussie."
The furore comes after the Baillieu Government revealed this month it would investigate if there was a need in Victoria for laws, being adopted in other states, that empower police to force Muslim women wearing a full veil to reveal their faces.
Islamic Council of Victoria director Nazeem Hussain said that fewer than 3000 Muslim women who wore burqas in Australia had no problem taking the garment off for police, who have power to demand identification.
"This kind of mass demonstration, this mass show of intolerance is just that," Mr Hussain said. "I would say it's hysteria reminiscent of Cronulla."
Muslim community spokesman Keysar Trad said women chose to wear the burqa for religious observance, not to hide their identity. "All I see beneath that call is bigotry and intolerance," Mr Trad said.
Liberal backbencher Bernie Finn, who supports banning the burqa in some places for security reasons, said people were entitled to express concerns about the garment.

A LAWYER for a Hells Angels bikie accused of attempting to extort money from a luxury car dealership asked his client to be bailed so he could get married.
Moustafa Jouayde, 30, is one of five men charged with demanding money from car dealer and racehorse owner Terry Mullens at the Burwood business in Sydney's inner west yesterday.
In Burwood Local Court today, Jouayde's lawyer George Thomas said his client was getting married in Lidcombe on Saturday and would lose money if it didn't go ahead.
He said a hip-hop artist, magician, and lebanese band had already been booked for the 250-seat wedding.
Mr Thomas told the court that the prosecution case was weak, and that Jouayde was speaking with Mr Mullens because he wanted to trade his bike for a BMW.
Magistrate Christopher Longley refused bail because Jouayde was on bail for two offences when he allegedly committed the offence.
Mr Longley said he believed the police case was "pretty strong".
Gang Squad detectives arrived within ten minutes and arrested the men, aged 24 to 30.
All five men are charged with attempted extortion and participating in a criminal group.
It is alleged the men were also involved in the theft of four luxury cars from the same dealership last week and returning them in pristine condition 26 hours later.
The remaining four men will appear this afternoon.

A COUNCIL caretaker who smuggled two teenage girls into Britain and forced them to work as prostitutes after they were put under a voodoo curse was jailed for 20 years.
Failed Nigerian asylum seeker Anthony Harrison, 32, also became the first person to be convicted of trafficking the victims out of the UK in a groundbreaking case.
A jury at Woolwich Crown Court unanimously convicted Harrison of a string of trafficking charges but cleared him of two charges of rape.
The girls involved, aged 14 and 16, from Edo in Nigeria, are believed to be the first 'Juju' voodoo rites victims to give evidence in a European court.
The two teenagers - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - underwent a series of perverse ceremonies which saw one of them stripped naked, cut all over her body with razors and locked
in a coffin for hours.
Another ceremony saw her forced to drink blood while yet another involved eating a chicken's heart.
The Juju rituals were intended to ensure the victims were 'bound' to a medicine man and would never reveal the truth about their harrowing ordeals.
Until now, those who have undergone such rituals have refused to speak out of fear that a curse would kill them.
Harrison, of Albert Square, Stratford, east London, worked for Newham council under the name Charles Pepple.
Passing sentence, Judge Philip Shorrock said: 'The trafficking of young girls from rural villages in Nigeria so they can be compelled to work as prostitutes is a vile business.

SOMALI youths living in western Sydney have been identified as a potential source of future home grown violent extremism according to intelligence given to the federal government.
The government will directly fund specific counter-terrorism programs aimed at Sydney's Somali community to prevent marginalised youth being lured into radical groups.
Attorney-General Robert McClelland will today announce $1.7 million in grants to 22 local community organisations as part of a Rebuilding Resilience in the Community program.
Two of those programs will be aimed directly at Sydney's west and south western Somali refugee community.
While there is no evidence that any have links to those involved in an alleged Melbourne terror cell smashed by police in 2009, local leaders say there is a risk that young people in Sydney could be drawn into radical groups.
"Intelligence and feedback from the community form a key part of the evidence base that drives Australia's Countering Violent Extremism program," Mr McClelland said.
"We want to give people the knowledge and skills to challenge violent extremism, whenever and wherever these ideologies are advocated, whether online, in schools, in the media or among peers.
"A comprehensive counter-terrorism response needs to include broader strategies to lessen the appeal of extremist ideologies that fuel terrorism in the first place."
Earlier this year, about $1 million was handed out for youth mentoring programs but the new round of grants will go directly to combat extremism. It is the first time money will go directly to Somali groups in Sydney and in Melbourne.

Branding the Afghan war a Western invasion, Uthman Badar, from the radical Islamic organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir, said: "If our members exist in a country where an occupation has occurred, in capacity as individuals they would have an obligation to resist."
Asked directly if he condoned the killing of Australian troops in Afghanistan, Mr Badar replied: "If you are occupying someone else's land then those victimised people have the right to resist."
He also refused to condemn underhand tactics such as suicide bombing as long as "innocent, non-combatants" were not targeted.
He was speaking as hundreds of Muslims gathered in Lidcombe, in Sydney's west, to promote their call for the creation of an Islamic state ruled by Sharia law, stretching from Spain to Australia.
The group has been banned in many countries overseas, including parts of the Middle East.
Although Hizb ut-Tahrir does not represent most of Muslims in Australia, it has a growing following here.
While Australian forces joined the war in Afghanistan to capture Osama Bin Laden and fight the Taliban in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Mr Badar said the Australian Government had no business being there.
"You have no business in interfering with the people of the Muslim world," he said. "Military occupation should be resisted militarily. People there have a right to resist."
But Islamic Friendship Association of Australia chairman Keysar Trad said the views of Hizb ut-Tahrir were not shared by most mainstream Australian Muslims.
"We would like to see the conflict in Afghanistan resolved peacefully and Australian troops return home safely," he said.
Outside the conference, police were forced to call for reinforcements, including the dog squad, when a group of about a dozen members of the Australian Protectionist Party chanting "no sharia law in Australia" almost came to blows with young men from the Hizb ut-Tahrir event.
Protest organiser and APP NSW chairman Darrin Hodges said: "Hizb ut-Tahrir have been banned in most Islamic countries in the Middle East. We don't understand why they haven't been banned here."

THE Australian branch of Islamic political group Hizb ut-Tahrir held its third annual conference yesterday, and celebrated with a litany of bizarre and divisive commentary.
At a time when many Islamic citizens in the Middle East are rising up against oppressive rule and demanding long-overdue freedoms, Hizb ut-Tahrir speakers in Sydney chose to criticise the role
of Western governments in those events.
Australia should "mind its own business", according to Hizb ut-Tahrir spokesman Uthman Badar.
There's something deeply perverse about an exclusionary and anti-democratic group demanding that Australia "mind its own business" from the safety and security of Australia. Elsewhere in the
world, including many Middle Eastern nations, Hizb ut-Tahrir is actually banned. The speakers who yesterday were able to freely discuss their ambitions for an Islamic state would be arrested if
they expressed those same thoughts under the Hizb ut-Tahrir banner in, for example, Turkey or Bangladesh.
Indeed, if Hizb ut-Tahrir had their way and were in a position to rule, public opposition such as we saw yesterday would be a thing of the past. The group rejects the Western concept of
democracy. Under the group's constitution, voting would only be open to Muslims. Non-Muslims would also be banned from holding public office.
In other words, we grant Hizb ut-Tahrir far greater liberties than they would ever grant non-believers - including the liberty to state that insurgents in such places as Afghanistan are obliged to
attack Australian troops.
Hizb ut-Tahrir exploits the freedoms available in Australia to advance an explicitly anti-freedom agenda.

THE WAR ON TERROR COMES TO LIDCOMBE
This afternoon, Sunday July 3,
I was honoured to take part in a
peaceful protest, along with some other like-minded people, against
the terrorist organization Hizb ut Tahrir that was holding a
conference in the Westella Reception Centre, Lidcombe. Hizb Ut Tahrir
's stated goal is to violently establish islamic rule in all
countries of the world. According to the respected news organization
Asia Times Online Hizb Ut Tahrir recently incited senior military
officers in Pakistan to plot a coup against the government. Asia
Times Online calls Hizb Ut Tahrir an al-Qaeda-linked organization.
With police permission we marched past the front of the conference
centre, though on the other side of the road, as requested by police,
waving Australian flags and one Israeli flag (to gauge the tolerance
of Hizb Ut Tahrir) and shouting "No Sharia Law", "Ban Hizb Ut
Tahrir" and such like slogans. We all believed that terror groups
like Hizb ut Tahrir, which is banned in Germany, Jordan, Saudi
Arabia, Russia, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Turkey,
Bangladesh and Pakistan should be added to the list of 19 already
proscribed terror groups like Al-Qa'ida, Al-Shabaab and Hizballah
already on our Federal Government's National Security Website.
After we had walked past the front of the hall for the second time,
the police advised us not to do so again or they would have a riot on
their hands, as by this time 30 to 40 supporters of Hizb ut Tahrir had
found time to tear themselves away from their drug-dealing and
car-rebirthing long enough to congregate outside the hall and begin
to threaten the peaceful protesters. No doubt the police had in mind
the notorious revenge attacks after the Cronulla barbecue of December
2005 when a convoy of 200 urban terrorists, after congregating
outside the Lakemba Mosque and in Punchbowl Park, where they had
scrawled on the road slogans like "AUSSI TO DIE" and " INTIFADA" and
send round text messages like "We will take Sydney from Cronulla to
the Rocks/With our AKs and our Glocks" rampaged through The Shire
bashing and stabbing people and destroying property.
It seems strange while Australian soldiers are sent to die in
Afghanistan in the so-called "war on terror" violent terror groups
like Hizb ut Tahrir are allowed to recruit members and propagate
their violent message here with impunity.

LAST week at a restaurant in Sydney, above a bar in Oxford St, Damien Thomlinson stood on legs of carbon fibre and spoke of life as a commando in Afghanistan.
His message came back to one small truth.
"The greatest asset of any soldier," he said, "is the man standing next to him."
Off to the side with his hands in his pockets stood a small man behind a big moustache who smiled a lot.
Thomlinson walks with a slight limp on his carbon fibre legs. The limp is pronounced enough for people to notice but subtle enough for a man recently to ask: "Twist your ankle playing footy?"
Thomlinson smiled and said: "No, drove over a bomb."
The man laughed. "Seriously, twist your ankle playing footy?"
"No, seriously," Thomlinson said, "drove over a bomb."
He can't remember the explosion. He was driving a night patrol near Tarin Kowt in Afghanistan when the bomb, an improvised explosive device, went off directly under him. It knocked the soldier in the passenger seat out the side door and the soldier in the back seat through the back window.
Right above it, Thomlinson had nowhere to go. So his right leg turned into red mist, gone forever.
His left leg was shredded and broken, severed below the knee.
His right elbow came out of a hole in his arm, his hands were broken, a wrist broken, his left shoulder dislocated, his nose broken and his lip torn open so badly blood was running down his throat into his lungs, which was a good thing.

As the soldiers in the following vehicle began working on their two ejected companions they heard wheezing from inside the car and, hearing a man choking on his own blood, realised the lump was a body.
One of the first to begin working on him was Private Scott Palmer.
That night, Palmer called his dad, Ray, at home in Darwin and told him what happened, and that "Iceman" Thomlinson was on his way to Germany and a lot of boys were shook up by what happened.
"I don't think he's gonna make it," Palmer said.
That was April, 2009. In the many months since, Thomlinson has learned to walk and resume a life close to what it once was, working in development at Holsworthy Barracks. When he heard in June last year that an army chopper went down in Afghanistan, and three commandos were killed in action, a chill ran through him because he would almost certainly know the soldiers on board.
One of those killed was Palmer.
Palmer's dad is Ray, the little man behind the big moustache.
Towards the end of last year Ray called Thomlinson and told him that he and his son had always planned to walk the Kokoda Track together.
Now his son was gone he was wondering if Thomlinson would do it with him.
Until then Thomlinson's answer had always been the same - he's had about four approaches - but when Ray asked he thought back to that one small truth, of mateship, and the soldier next to you.
He said: "Absolutely."
For months now they have been training, and will head off in just under a fortnight.
As it nears both men have their reservations, for different reasons.
Thomlinson knows about a dozen able-bodied people who have come back from it - and all have described how tough an effort it was. "For me," he says, "it's going to be extremely challenging, there's going to be nothing easy.
"When I weighed up why do I want to do it - I've got to do it for my own reasons.
"Ray said to me that him and Scott were going to do it and that it's really important to him. From there, there's no real way you can say no."
Ray has been training as often as he can, but not as often as he needs.
Living in the Northern Territory, there have been trips to Sydney and Brisbane for events concerning his son, broken routines that have interfered with the 10km walks, with a backpack, he tries to do daily.
And, anyway, he knows that physically he will get there.
Emotionally might be a problem.
He was at home on a Monday night when he got a phone call telling him his son had died. He was back at work the following morning.
"(Scott) would have said, 'Dad, don't sit at home and mope over me'," Ray says.
"I didn't want it to happen, but I thought it might happen one day because of the job he's in.
"So even though you don't want it to happen, the voice saying your son has just died that night was shattering to me and, to be honest, that evening I was more in shock.
"I'd only just talked to him on the Saturday night ... he was coming home."
EXPRESSING emotions isn't easy for him. As Thomlinson spoke last week, Ray smiled before saying a few words himself. And it was almost unsettling to hear him talk about his lost son.
"This won't bring Scott back. This trip isn't about that or about replacing Scott with Damien. My son's dead. This is about all those blokes who are the ones going to suffer now," he says.
In all, 25 wounded soldiers will be going, and there will be moments when it gets the better of him.
Often, when training, the backpack is not the only load he carries. Often his thoughts drift to his boy, and there have been days walking under his load when the thoughts have come rushing, about what was there and what was lost and, well, he doesn't like to admit it, but there are tears.
"I do get very cut up about what's happened, I'm sorry to say. I've shed a lot of friggin' tears but, mainly, I've shed a lot of tears by myself," he says.
Kokoda tests everyone who walks it. They know that. Indeed, part of commando training is to increase the physical duress in a bid to strengthen - or break - the mind. And given the emotional load they will take in with them, Kokoda will be not a whole lot different. That's what awaits them.
"I have nerves in regard to how emotional it's going to be," Ray says. "I can't tell you how emotional I'm going to get over there."
Ray knows when it is over people will say they're proud of him, that he put others before himself and they are proud. Those are not his thoughts. They are what he knows his son would say.

Police get legal lift on burqa removal

WOMEN wearing the burqa or other full-face veils will be forced to show their face when stopped by police under proposed changes to the law, Attorney-General Greg Smith said yesterday.
Mr Smith said there was a duty on all citizens to identify themselves when asked by police and the law should reflect that.
"The law is not that specific at the moment and that is what we are leading towards," Mr Smith said.
He said he could understand the "public outcry" over "cases like that" of Muslim woman Carnita Matthews, 47, who had her jail sentence and conviction for knowingly making a false complaint
about racism by police overturned on appeal in the District Court last week. Ms Matthews, who wears a full-face niqab, had denied she was the person who signed the complaint or delivered it to
police after she was booked for not properly displaying a P-plate.
However, Mr Smith revealed he did not think there were grounds for the prosecution to appeal the court ruling that has led to the legal shake-up. He said there could only be an appeal on
matters of law, not fact.
"Personally, having looked at the case, I have my doubts," Mr Smith said.

Ramazan Acar was jailed for life today for the brutal murder of his two-year-old toddler, Yazmina.
And after seeing the man who killed her daughter put behind bars, Rachelle D'Argent wanted to share the moment with her.
"Mimi, it's our day today. Mummy told you there would be justice for you. And even though I haven't accepted that you're not here, forever you'll be in my heart and I know you'll always be

He kidnapped Yazmina from her mother's home, then taunted his former partner for hours about his plans to murder their daughter, even posting 'about to kill ma kid' on social networking site
Facebook.
He also described the brutal murder as "pay bk (back)" for the girl's mother, Rachelle.
A court sketch: Ramazan Acar was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 33 years.
In sentencing, Justice Elizabeth Curtain said the killing was among the worst crimes possible. It was a "chilling and horrific murder," she said.
"You committed this murder for the worst possible motives: revenge and spite," Justice Curtain told Acar.
"She was killed by the one man in the world whose duty was to love and protect her."
Acar's lawyer said his client had a personality disorder which made him impulsive and unable to control his anger, that it was akin to a mental illness and warranted a sentencing discount.
But the judge disagreed, saying he knew full well what he was doing was wrong and life was the only appropriate penalty.
Acar was given a 33 year minimum, placing him among the state's worst killers.
“Acar's lawyer said his client had a personality disorder “ Well yes we knew that he was a Muslim of course he was mentally unstable. He is a follower of the cult of DEATH.

Appeal fails for baby butcher

A halal butcher who dissected his newborn daughter and buried her body in a neighbour's yard to conceal an extramarital affair has had yet another appeal thrown out.
Brisbane man Raymond Akhtar Ali was jailed for life in 1999 over the gruesome murder of Chahleen Amy Blackwell just moments after her birth at Ali's family home at Logan Valley, in the city's
south, on September 8, 1998.
The child's mother and the Ali family's live-in babysitter, Amanda Blackwell, was also convicted of manslaughter.
The infant was bashed, stomped on and sliced in half by her father, a trained butcher who slaughtered goats for the muslim market, because he did not want his wife to find out about his
infidelity.
Her sexual organs were also removed and her body buried in a neighbouring property before it was eventually dug up by dogs.
Ali appealed his conviction to the High Court in March 2005, claiming the conduct of his defence lawyers had resulted in a miscarriage of justice, however the appeal was rejected.
A second bid in Brisbane's Supreme Court of Appeal this morning - this time for an extension of time to mount another legal challenge - was also swiftly thrown out.
While Ali denied any connection with the birth or death, DNA testing showed he was the baby's father.

Regular Atlas readers are aware of the ongoing jihad in the Ivory Coast. Back on January 4, I reported an Islamic takeover of the Ivory Coast. And the French (and the UN, US, and Europe) were helping them. The reportage on the Ivory Coast election has been biased and pro-jihad. The Ivory Coast joins the ummah.
January 4: We are witnessing one of those watershed moments in history: Ivory Coast is about to toggle from a (mostly) Christian country to a Muslim country. The winner of the election is a Muslim — the head of the Muslim rebel forces in the north of the country — and the loser is a non-Muslim. Ivory Coast is on the verge of officially joining the Ummah.

Muslims do not need to be in the majority to force Islamic rule on a country. They simply need to be present in numbers sufficient to terrorize, threaten, bribe, and defraud their way into power.

- Muslim slave trade in Africa has lasted 14 centuries and continues to this day in places like Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan.
- Over 17 million slaves (mostly black women and children) were transported out of Africa by Islamic traders. Another 85 million are believed to have died en route.
- The Prophet Muhammad practiced and approved of slavery, and directed his men to do the same.
- The Qur’an devotes more verses to informing Muslim men of their right to keep women as sex slaves, than it does to telling them to pray five times a day.
- The Arabic word for “black” (Abd) is synonymous with the word for “slave”.
- Muhammad's father-in-law, Umar declared that Arabs could not be taken as slaves, and freed all Arab slaves. This led to the wide Islamic campaign to capture slaves in Africa, Europe and Asia.
- Western slave trade exploited Africans primarily for agricultural labor. The Arab slave trade on the other hand, has more often used men for military service, and women for sex and for their wombs – to produce children who will be Muslims.
- Many Muslim leaders since Muhammad have had harems of hundreds (or even thousands) of non-Muslim young girls and women to service their desires.
- Converting to Islam does not automatically grant a slave his freedom, although this is said to increase the slave master's heavenly reward.
- According to Islamic courts, slave masters may treat their slaves however they choose without fear of penalty.
