"The chief weapon in the quiver of all Islamist expansionist movements, is the absolute necessity to keep victims largely unaware of the actual theology plotting their demise. To complete this deception, a large body of ‘moderates’ continue to spew such ridiculous claims as “Islam means Peace” thereby keeping non-Muslims from actually reading the Qur’an, the Sira, the Hadith, or actually looking into the past 1400 years of history. Islamists also deny or dismiss the concept of ‘abrogation’, which is the universal intra-Islamic method of replacing slightly more tolerable aspects of the religion in favor of more violent demands for Muslims to slay and subdue infidels"

Muslim Spin Doctors Down Under,Normalising the Abnormal: Muslim women using sport to smash cultural stereotypes

Muslim women kick new AFL goal

""We enforce that we are representing our religion so we go on to the field with the best manners and demonstrate Muslims are normal.""

Briana Domjen

THEY are the Muslim women using sport to smash cultural stereotypes - just don't ask them who Adam Goodes is.

How long before the "normal" sports uniform, Bikini,Swimming Costume becomes compulsory for all women so as not to offend the minority "normal" Muslim participants?
QANTAS,KFC,Coles,Woolworths to name but a few and our education departments have rolled over with Halal food (and QANTAS are said to be in the process of making a Muslim friendly female cabin crew uniform)
How long ago was it when we all said it would never happen ? and they are less than 2% of the population imagine what they will be demanding and enforcing when they are at say 4 or God forbid 5%.
The Auburn Tigers are the first predominantly Muslim women's AFL team in the country, and although they admit to not knowing much about Aussie rules, that hasn't stopped them using the sport to build cultural awareness.

The team suffered a 130-0 loss to Macquarie University yesterday, but captain Lael Kassem said they want much more than to just put points on the scoreboard.

Ms Kassem, 21, from Auburn, said: "Sport can change everyone's lives and it has done that for so many of our girls.

"When we started the team we didn't think about winning.

"We just wanted to be the most respected team and the most culturally aware team."

Ms Kassem said many of the women had never watched a game of football live or even seen stars such as Sydney Swans player Goodes on TV.

The Muslim team members respect their religion by wearing the traditional head scarf and cover their limbs when they step out on the field.

"The majority of the girls in our team wear the Islamic veil and they can wear tracksuits if that makes them more comfortable," Ms Kassem said.

"We enforce that we are representing our religion so we go on to the field with the best manners and demonstrate Muslims are normal."

Multicultural Australia Muslims demand Pool Curtains for public swimming pool
So just how "normal" are Muslim women in Sport and what do they really think of their Infidel team mates and fellow sportswomen?

This article was published in the 19th issue of Nida\'ul Islam

magazine (http://www.islam.org.au), July - August 1997]

Muslim Women in Sport
The benefits derived from sport can not be denied. Not only do they have physical and social benefits, but also essential psychological consequences. Since sport is also a compulsory part of the curriculum in all schools, it is important to address the many Islamic conflicts that us sisters may face.

The Need for Sport
Men and women alike are in need of sport and exercise. Physical fitness is certainly encouraged, just as a balanced diet is endorsed, and harmful substances are prohibited. Exercise is also conducive to a more balanced emotional state, as it aids in the release of harmful free radicals and excess hormones. Mundane routines must also be broken otherwise it could affect a women\'s input into society, as well as her relationship with her husband and family.

The Sahaabah were aware of these issues, and would exhort others for the same. \'Ali bin Abi Talib (r.a.a) said: \"Refresh your minds from time to time, for a tired mind becomes blind.\" Abu Darda` (r.a.a) also commented: \"I entertain my heart with something trivial in order to make it stronger in the service of the Truth.\"

The Prophet (s.a.w) advised his followers to engage in many forms of sport, which even today are considered of the best form of exercise. The Prophet (s.a.w) himself would engage in wrestling, racing, archery and horse races.

While Aisha (r.a.a) was on a journey along with the Apostle of Allah (s.a.w), she had a race with him and outpaced him. As time passed, the Prophet (s.a.w) wished to avenge for his loss, so he raced her again, in which case he outpaced her, and remarked: \"This is for that outpacing.\"

The Etiquette\'s of Sport

The restrictions on women participating in sport or physical activity is more than that of men. All Islamic observances must be followed, regardless of any school policies or social stigmas. Our obedience to our Creator cannot be given preference to a creature of Allah.
When participating in sports, the clothing must be Islamically acceptable. This would therefore exclude shorts, t-shirts, leotards, swimming costumes etc.
It is very important to ensure that there are no males watching. Mixing of sexes is forbidden in normal situations, except in special situations under certain conditions, let alone in a sporting arena or exercise facility. It also restricts your activities, and modesty would not allow this in any case.

Swimming
In most female-only schools, there are always male teachers around. Hence wearing even body suits is not sufficient, therefore to remove yourself from this activity is the only solution. There are some female-only baths or swimming complexes, yet even this is not suitable for the purposes of Muslim women. The following tradition treats this point:

\"Some women from Homs or from Sham (now the area of Damascus) came to \'A\'ishah. She asked, \'Do you enter the public baths? I heard the Messenger of Allah saying that a woman who undresses anywhere else other than in her own house tears off the Satr (shelter) which lies between her and her Lord .\' \" [At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]

It is not only a problem of Satr, but also revealing yourself to disbelievers, an important point which ssisters are ignoranor careless of. Permission for a Muslim woman to reveal her hair, arms etc. is permitted to her husband, father, mother and so on.
Non-Muslim women are excluded from this permission, because contact with them might easily lead to disastrous results. That is why the Khalif \'Umar wrote to Abu \'Ubaidah Ibn al-Jarrah, the Governor of Syria, to prohibit the Muslim women from going to the baths with the women of the Ahl al-Kitab (the People of the Book). [At-Tabari, Ibn Jazir]. According to Ibn \'Abbas \"...a Muslim woman is not allowed to display herself before the women of the unbelievers and non-Muslim poll-tax payers (Ahl al-Dhimmah) any more than she can display herself before other men\" [At-Tabari].
This distinction between women on grounds of character and religion is intended to safeguard Muslim women against the influence of women whose moral and cultural background is either not known or is objectionable from the Islamic point of view.

Gyms
Although many women-only gyms have become popular, we have the same problem as with baths, that being in the presence of non-Muslim women. However, as long as loose clothing is worn along with proper head covering, this problem can be avoided.

Self-Defence
Particularly in Western countries, this is an important form of popular exercise. Sisters must be careful to train only with other women, to maintain loose clothing and head cover, and not to attack at the head, as the Prophet (s.a.w) has forbidden us to hit on the face while training.

Watching Sport
Many sisters find themselves in situations where they will be watching sports on TV, at school carnivals, or going to matches. Stadiums are not advisable places for Muslims in general, because of the language, drinking and scenery. Allah has commanded the believing women to lower their gaze, and sport comes as no exception, especially with guys in shorts.

Other Points
Sports and exercise should be judged according to the level of modesty involved. Games such as netball played in a public arena is not befitting to the honour of a Muslimah. No compromises can be made in terms of clothing or mixing. Public showers at female schools is totally forbidden. Many sisters will also apply deodorants after a work-out. What must be kept in mind is the Prophet\'s warning on a fragrant perfumes: \"The woman who perfumes herself and passes through a gathering is an adulteress.\" Some fragrant-free deodorants are available, otherwise apply enough so that the fragrance is not apparent.

A married woman must also have the permission of her husband beforehand, and must ensure that non of her duties as a wife are being sacrificed as a result of her activities.
To keep in line with today's excessive and unwarranted demands for women to have a \"supermodel\" physique, many sisters will exercise for this sole purpose, only adding more stress and anguish to themselves. Keep it as a fun activity, involve your husband with it and make it an intimate part of your marriage life. Keep in mind that over-exercising can result in unrepairable tissue damage, and will turn you off it. Bodily exhaustion is not called for, as Allah (s.w.t) tells us: \"Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope.\" [2: 286] .

Mike McLaren and Julia Patrick Green Dreaming of a Human-Free Environment

Green Dreaming of a Human-Free Environment

Julia Patrick

QUADRANT
March 2013

In 2001, US cattle rancher Ken Freeman made an unnerving discovery: under the auspices of the UN, his ranch in Alabama showed up dark green on the Environment Protection Agency’s map. The code for dark green read: “Human-free habitat”.

Environmental treaties with the United Nations have never been formally ratified by the US Congress, so after a prolonged stoush, Ken and his newly formed Alliance for Citizens’ Rights successfully thwarted the UN’s intention to remove their livelihood and drive them off their land. Alabama then became the first state in the USA where “infringement on the property rights of citizens linked to any other international law ... is prohibited”.

Australia’s situation is quite different. The 1999 Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and a plethora of legislation relying on our obligations as signatories to international conventions have made us subservient to the UN. It has us over a barrel.

The push to remake Australia as a socialist state, under the guise of concern for the environment, is mightily emboldened by these obligations, as we’re overwhelmed by a dizzying, increasing multitude of green projects and “initiatives” that are breathtaking in their breadth and brazen in their audacity.

Quietly announced by Labor’s Minister for the Environment, Tony Burke, on November 4, and flying under the radar, is the National Wildlife Corridors Plan. The intention of this fancifully destructive scheme is to preserve land for the exclusive use of plant and animal wildlife as they fly, hop or crawl along their personalised routes that “will connect habitat patches within and across borders, along rainfall and altitudinal gradients and stretch across Australia”.

Connectivity is the buzzword; habitat patches, protected areas and national parks must be connected to “make the landscape habitable for communities of plants and animals, allowing their movement, adaptation and evolution”. Farming, grazing, an orchard or a bee farm must give way before the need of the Wallum sedge frog or the golden sun moth to multiply freely without intrusion by man.

The term “human-free habitat” is not used to describe the scheme, but in this theatre of the absurd the intention is the same. The word corridor implies something narrow, but Burke’s corridors will slice wide swathes through Australia, including large areas of private land, in wide, unbroken chains.

There are several existing corridor “foundation stones”. They include Habitat 141, trumpeting itself as “Ocean to Outback—a vision for conserving, restoring and reconnecting ecosystems” covering 18 million hectares and stretching across the borders of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. The Great Eastern Ranges is a 3600-kilometre initiative “to protect and connect native ecosystems from central Victoria to far north Queensland”. Needing protection here are the spotted-tailed quoll and the dusky antechinus.

“The intent” of the Trans-Australia Eco-Link “is to create a wide band of connectivity stretching 3500 km from Arnhem Land in the north to Port Augusta in the south”, while The Gondwana Link Ltd in Western Australia “could prove important for ecological adaptation to climate change”. Climate change is frequently called upon to give evidence in the Corridors Plan.

The Plan is rich with beguiling, feel-good sentiments. Pictures show earnest-looking people huddling over maps or planting seedlings; a girl in a pond with a fish net represents employment opportunities. Strangely, there’s a picture of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, albeit with a tree trunk poking up in the foreground. Make of that what you will.

As the Plan’s fifty pages rattle on with pretentious bureau-babble of “riparian vegetation”, “resilience thinking”, “spatial scales” and references ad nauseam to ecosystems, habitats and biodiversity, the core objective of putting productive land out of reach remains unchanged. But it is coyly vague on how all this will be managed; there may be “diverse governance arrangements”, “cross-jurisdictional collaboration” and “partnerships involving governments, conservation groups, NGOs, private landholders, industry, philanthropic organisations, businesses, indigenous and community groups” and similar blather. And who pays?

We, the public, are “invited” to put up nominations for new corridors—which could be along Aboriginal songlines—for assessment by that faceless entity, an “independent council”.

As for private land, Burke says, “Participation ... is voluntary”, adding “The Plan does not, of itself, lock up any land.” What does “of itself” mean?

Free of human endeavour, land cannot be farmed or grazed to create an income; then what choice does the landowner have except to leave—voluntarily? Private land is under siege simply by making it untenable to live on.

Fabian gradualism is the game plan; Jan Davis, CEO of the Tasmanian Farmers & Graziers Association, sums it up precisely:

What you smell here is a farmland version of bracket creep. First it’s voluntary, then under pressure from ENGOs and Green coalition partners, it becomes an imposed regime, that imposed regime becomes intergenerational as covenants on freehold land become binding on the next generation of Tasmanian farmers.

The environmental push took off seriously in 1992 when a collection of power-hungry luminaries (among them Mikhail Gorbachev, Al Gore and Paul Keating) met in Rio and formed “a global partnership to conserve, protect and restore the health and integrity of the Earth’s ecosystem”. While stating that “Environmental education is not neutral but ideological. It is a political act”, the conference gave itself the appealingly benign name of “Earth Summit” to conceal its intention.

The environmental movement is a vast global network of interlocking organisations and myriad fiefdoms with unelected representatives; it is simply a smokescreen for promoting the socialist agenda worldwide—exactly as the Earth Summit intended. So far, it’s been a thumping success.

Sydney's September 15 2012 CBD Muslim Insurgency Rioter charges thrown out.

No penalty for El-Amir Abdul Hamid El-Ayoubi over hitting police dog

PETER BODKIN AND SIMON BLACK
The Daily Telegraph
April 11, 2013 12:00AM

HE admitted clubbing a police dog on the head with a stick during last year's Muslim riots.

But a Sydney magistrate yesterday threw out all charges against El-Amir Abdul Hamid El-Ayoubi, ruling he could have been acting in self-defence when he hit german shepherd Manchu.

He was accused of animal cruelty and spitting on the dog's handler, Senior-Constable Alex Seivl, during the September riot in Sydney's CBD.

Yesterday the Downing Centre Local Court was told the 20-year-old electrician was "afraid" after seeing dogs "let loose" on other protesters.

He grabbed a 20cm stick from the ground as rioters flung bottles and other missiles at police, who were standing in front of him with their dogs.

Senior-Constable Seivl said El-Ayoubi had spat on his chest from about 3m away - then came at him with the stick "screaming out in another language".

He said El-Ayoubi started beating Manchu with the stick before the dog grabbed his leg and the officer managed to tackle him to the ground.

Sen-Constable Seivl said El-Ayoubi looked "extremely angry" when he picked up the stick and started waving it at him before the attack.

El-Ayoubi denied ever spitting on the policeman but admitted he hit the dog twice on the head "out of raw emotion" after it grabbed him.

"No matter who it is, they're going to go for a strike to the head (to try) to get the canine off him," he told police.

Magistrate Elizabeth Ryan said she accepted El-Ayoubi had spat during the incident and said his wielding of the stick was "not the wisest course".

But she said there were no witnesses who backed Senior-Constable Seivl's claims of being hit with saliva and she was not convinced El-Ayoubi had lashed out before the dog bit him.

El-Ayoubi told police some young men involved in the riots had "testosterone coming out of the heads" but described himself as a "minor cripple" due to a knee reconstruction.

"The whole time I was just sitting back ... just being a part of the Islamic part of it, not the violent part of it," El-Ayoubi said.

Several men were arrested after the riots, which began as a protest against a YouTube clip posted overseas that mocked Islam.

Speaking after yesterday's decision, El-Ayoubi's lawyer Paul McGirr said his client was "very, very relieved" at the magistrate's ruling.

"He's a good boy and he's never been in trouble before," he said.

"His sister came to support him in court. He lost his father a few years ago and he's the man of the house.

"The decision meant a lot to them."

Religious tensions flare in Egypt

The Coptic Christian Pope has launched an attack on Egypt's Islamist President, Mohammed Mursi saying he failed to prevent deaths when Muslims and Christians clashed in the streets of Cairo.

So, I guess they were just carrying out Egypt leader Mohamed Morsi’s orders to rape non-Muslim protesters?

Not Just in Egypt :

Traumatized 16-year-old British girl was brutally raped by 90 different Muslim men in one weekend

Transcript
TONY JONES, PRESENTER: Religious tensions in Egypt have entered a new and dangerous phrase. The country's Coptic Christian Pope has launched an extraordinary attack on the Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. Christians say the Government didn't protect them when they were attacked by a mob that included many of the President's supporters. Five Christians and two Muslims were killed in the riots at the weekend. From Cairo, Middle East correspondent Matt Brown reports.

MATT BROWN, REPORTER: In Cairo's back streets, there's an overwhelming sense of unease. In this Coptic Christian household, Simone Hosni Rashid is recovering from the loss of an eye, her face peppered by bird shot from a gun fired by her Muslim neighbour. But she says she has no ill will towards Muslims. Instead, she blames Egypt's Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

SIMONE HOSNI RASHID (voiceover translation): Unfortunately, there is no security or safety and there won't be for along as Mursi continues to rule.

MATT BROWN: It happened as Simone was looking down at her neighbour's wedding in the alley below and he let off a celebratory blast of gunfire. The family insists it was just a stupid accident, not about religion. They say Simone's tragedy is part of a bigger picture of chaos and lawlessness since the fall of the dictator Hosni Mubarak, the rise of the Islamists who replaced him and the bitter dispute with their opponents. The girl's plight epitomises the chaos and confusion engulfing Egypt.

SANURA IBRAHIM, AUNT (voiceover translation): No-one is guaranteeing security. Anyone can carry a gun and fire it. Those in charge are not running the country properly.

MATT BROWN: A few blocks away, however, the mourners see a more worrying trend. The spectre of sectarian violence between Muslims and Christians cannot be denied.

In the Coptic Christian church on Cairo's outskirts, the Hanna family is mourning the loss of their son Mahrous, killed in clashes with a Muslim mob. He was shot in the neck, the fifth Coptic Christian to die in two days of bloodshed over the weekend.

UM ROMANI, MOTHER (voiceover translation): I'm afraid for my children. I don't know what to do now.

MATT BROWN: The Coptic Pope has accused Egypt's Islamist President, Mohamed Mursi, of negligence over the deaths. That's a rare and pointed criticism highlighting the mistrust between the two communities.

UM ROMANI (voiceover translation): Our neighbourhood is usually OK, but now I have no sense of the security.

MATT BROWN: The blood-letting began after Muslim buildings were defaced last week, leading to clashes in which four Christians and at least one Muslim were killed. Then at a service in the Coptic cathedral on Sunday, carried live on television, mourners chanted slogans denouncing the Muslim Brotherhood, the support base for President Mursi.

When the mourners emerged, an angry mob was waiting for them. Mahrous Hana and another man, thought to be a local Muslim, were killed.

ABUNE BAKHOUM, COPTIC PRIEST (voiceover translation): This made people very afraid, even in their own homes. The police did not do enough to protect us.

MATT BROWN: Christian members of Egypt's Upper House say the Interior Minister must resign. The President has promised a full investigation. While 30 people have reportedly been questioned, the violence has opened an already-inflamed wound in Egyptian society.

From the priests all the way up to the President, official words are about tolerance and cooperation. But for many in this community, fear has become fact and it's a bad omen for Egypt's future.

Accused terrorist wanted to ignite bushfires, court hears

An accused terrorist had instructional material on how to make a remote control bomb that would ignite a bushfire in Australia, a court has heard.

Adnan Karabegovic, 24, of Officer, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday on six counts of collecting documents connected with a terrorist act and six counts of possessing documents connected to a terrorist act.

The court heard Mr Karabegovic had copies of an al-Qaeda magazine, Inspire, on his laptop and on a USB device found in his pocket when arrested after his home was raided last September.

"Get your troops out of Muslim lands you dirty convict pigs".

The accused's home was one of at least 11 properties across Melbourne's south-east that were raided on September 12 by the Australian Federal Police.

The court heard Inspire was published on the Arabian peninsula for those who declare an "open jihad" and as a "resource manual for those who loathe the tyrants".

Articles in six issues of the magazine in Mr Karabegovic's possession focused on handgun training, poisoning water supplies, making a bomb that would ignite a bushfire and a list of countries at war with Muslims.

Other articles specifically instructed how to make bombs out of common kitchen ingredients, welding blades on to the front of a four-wheel-drive to attack people and the best shooting positions for an AK-47 assault rifle at the Sydney Opera House.

The court heard that in addition to the magazine articles, Mr Karabegovic was overheard by the AFP in telephone conversations with another man saying he wanted to "make a plan and stick to it".

He also spoke of being prepared for war, being happy in jail, of plans to modify items bought at Bunnings into weapons and of his hope to travel to Bosnia for training, the court was told.

It is also alleged he was involved in hanging a banner over a building which read:

"Get your troops out of Muslim lands you dirty convict pigs".

Prosecutor Daniel Gurvich said Mr Karabegovic, when questioned by the AFP, said he thought he had deleted the files from his laptop, and had not looked at articles for months.

He told officers he did not read the instructional articles, but only opinion pieces by commentators.

The committal hearing before magistrate Cathie Lamble was told four witnesses would give evidence: a digital forensic investigator, a translator and two AFP agents.
The hearing continues.

Spokeswoman Hiba Casablanca said the system was failing women of multicultural backgrounds.

"We opened in response to demand from people here and it's increasing every week," Ms Casablanca said.

"We need a specialist refuge catering for the needs of women of colour, run by people who can speak their language and who truly understand and connect with what we're saying, when we talk about cultural practices that violate our rights."

Ms Casablanca said some of the women's stories were heart-breaking.

"One woman, married for 25 years, her husband would physically abuse her by strangling and raping her on a weekly basis," she said.

"Financially abuse her by taking all her money and socially isolate her by preventing her having friends."

Ms Casablana said the woman was terrified, but embarrassed to speak out and felt she had nowhere to turn for help.

"These woman are being treated like slaves here in Dandenong and Casey," she said.

"They are very brave to speak out, but we need a safe place for them so they don't have to return to their abusers."

There is one domain in which woman have always reigned supreme, and that is the business of coupling, procreating and child rearing.

Therefore, if you influence women, you influence the fabric of society. Which is why feminism has been such an important weapon in the armament of the left.

But feminism has now gone well beyond redressing genuine inequality to advocating behaviours and attitudes that damage women, and threaten the health of society.

The evidence is there to be seen for anyone who cares to look, in the annals of psychological disorders that afflict so many young women today.

The zipless f ... eulogised by yesterday's feminists has become the norm for Gen Y in the form of a too-often joyless, mechanical and regret-filled hook-up culture.

Sex and human connection, let alone love and compassion, have effectively been decoupled in the hook-up culture, in which dating has given way to no-strings-attached physical encounters.

The term "hook-up" is exactly as dehumanising it sounds, and a fascinating study by the American Psychological Association last month shows how disconnected are the sexual behaviours and private internal desires of young men, and especially young women.

Yet the establishment's concern and outrage is marshalled against the rare piece of advice from elders that might offer an antidote to despair.

For instance, last week, worldwide mockery and condemnation fell upon Susan Patton, a 1977 graduate of America's Ivy League Princeton university, and a mother of two sons.

Her crime was to write a letter to the college newspaper exhorting women to marry young, and preferably a Princeton man, before they graduate.

"For most of you, the cornerstone of your future and happiness will be inextricably linked to the man you marry, and you will never again have this concentration of men who are worthy of you," she wrote.

She is right.

The fact is that no matter how much we change the social script by which we all live our lives, the mathematics of fertility don't change and IVF is no solution for ageing eggs if you want your own genetic offspring.

Rather than angrily denying the existence of this inconvenient fact, young women are better advised, during that extended period of singledom between early puberty and late marriage, to work out what they really want out of life. And older women owe it to them to speak the unfashionable truth.

To her credit, Patton has stood her ground, pointing out that work-life balance is not just about work.

The other piece of rare courageous advice rejected by the establishment comes from Tony Abbott.

Opposition leader Tony Abbott and his daughters.

Three years ago he said that his three daughters should consider virginity a "gift" that should not be given away lightly.

For this he was pilloried by the usual scolding fem set, led enthusiastically by Julia Gillard, who said the Opposition Leader's comments confirmed women's worst fears about him.

"Australian women want to make their own choices and they don't want to be lectured to by Mr Abbott," she said at the time.

Well, last week, in this newspaper, Abbott's daughters Frances, 21, and Bridget, 20, confirmed their father's comment had been "misconstrued," and that it was not about controlling women but respecting them.

Yet in this month's Madison Magazine  panel, in which Abbott took part with Sarah Murdoch, me, and feminist academic Kate Gleeson, Gleeson sneeringly asked what his advice would have been to his sons, if he had them.

"Don't use people," was his reply, the corollary to his earlier advice to his daughters, which was "Don't be used".

This irritated feminists, too, because it implied that men are the users, whereas the theory is that women equally are capable of using people for their own sexual ends.

Somehow this perverse aspiration has become morally desirable.

The Sexualisation of our Children

This is the sensibility that underpins the hook-up culture that is the defining sexual norm of our time.

In a new book, The End of Sex - How Hook-up Culture Is Leaving a Generation Unhappy, Sexually Unfulfilled and Confused About Intimacy, Donna Freitas has compiled eight years of research into a revealing exposition of Gen Y life.

"Amid the seemingly endless partying ... lies a thick layer of melancholy, insecurity and isolation that no one can seem to shake. College students have perfected an air of bravado about hook-up culture though a great many of them wish for a world of romance and dating."

Among her most striking findings from American college campuses is that 41 per cent of students "expressed sadness or even despair" about hooking up.

These students suspected it robbed them of healthy, fulfilling sex lives, positive dating experiences and loving relationships.

At its very worst, hooking up made them feel ''miserable'' and ''abused''.

Another revealing aspect of Freitas' book is the extent to which feminist writers claim hook-up culture is "empowering" for women, despite evidence of the opposite.

She quotes Hanna Rosin's book The End of Men which claimed "the perfunctory nature of sex in a hookup is essential to support a wider landscape of sexual empowerment among today's young women".

Ambivalent sex is useful, according to this theory, because it does not tie a young woman down.

Meantime, the article Sexual Hook-up Culture in The American Psychological Association's review, Monitor,  shows the disturbing psychological consequences, for both men and women.

They include unwanted sex (mostly alongside alcohol and substance abuse), profound regret and feelings of shame and depression.

Saddest of all is that while most men and women did not expect a romantic relationship as the outcome of a hook-up, fully one third of men and almost half of women "ideally wanted" such an outcome.

Anyone who has much to do with young people will have observed a sadness beneath the polished, perfected surface of Gen Y's smiling girls.

As the mother of boys I have had only glimpses of the existential pain of young women but it is enough to make my female heart ache.

Non-Muslims 'not welcome' at mosque funeral for former policeman

"All of his friends were not Muslim, so they had to leave - it was a big shock. It upset a lot of people."

MOURNERS were told they were "not welcome" by a cleric at a former policeman's funeral because they were non-Muslims.

The family of Erdinc Ozen, a former police officer and member of the navy reserves, are demanding an apology following the incident at Sydney's Auburn Gallipoli Mosque last month.

Mr Ozen, a Turkish-born Australian who served as a policeman until 2011, died from a brain aneurysm last month.

His brother Tunc said a number of senior police and friends from his fishing club at the Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL left the service after the unexpected directive from acting president Dr Abdurrahman Asaroglu. Others attending included an 87-year-old World War II veteran and former NSW premier Nathan Rees.

"He told everyone it's a Muslim prayer service, all women and non-Muslims were not welcome and they had to leave the mosque area," Tunc Ozen said.

"All of his friends were not Muslim, so they had to leave - it was a big shock. It upset a lot of people."

Most hurtful for his family was that when it came time to move Erdinc's coffin, his closest friends were not allowed to take part in the proceedings.

"These complete strangers were grabbing my brother's coffin, not his mates, as a result of what this bloke had said," Mr Ozen said.

Mr Ozen has written to the mosque and Turkish consulate demanding an apology.

"He didn't raise any of this with us. There were plenty of opportunities," he said.

"I've spent as much time thanking people for coming as I have apologising to them over what happened."

Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad said: "What was done does not run consistently with our traditions. Our religion teaches us to be compassionate towards people grieving."
