A MAN accused of trying to throw his sister-in-law off a high-rise car park was angry because she had taken his wife to the beach without his permission, a Sydney court has been told.
Ismail Belghar allegedly said "I'm going to kill you'' before carrying 22-year-old Candan Kokden to the point where her upper torso was hanging over a railing at a shopping centre car park in central Sydney.
"At this point, the victim had been crying uncontrollably and thought she was going to die from the accused throwing her over the railing to the roadway below,'' according to police facts tendered in Newtown Local Court on Wednesday.
Belghar, 34, of Canterbury, is charged with the attempted murder of Ms Kokden, and of assault occasioning her actual bodily harm on Tuesday night at the car park of the Broadway Shopping Centre.
He was granted bail with a string of conditions that mean he cannot discuss the case with his wife of 11 years, Hanife Kokden, nor can they mention her sister.
The Moroccan immigrant is to report to police daily, continue to take his depression medication and not to go within 500 metres of his sister-in-law's home.
In opposing bail, prosecutor Sergeant Steve Kelly said ``a great deal of animosity and hatred'' had been expressed by Belghar to his sister-in-law.
About a month ago, Candan Kokden took her sister to the beach for an outing, leading Belghar to later ring her, the facts alleged.
He allegedly called her a ``slut'', repeatedly said he would kill her, saying ``how dare you take my wife to the beach''.
Since that date, the victim has made a conscious effort to avoid the accused at all costs, including declining to attend family dinners, so as not to aggravate the accused,'' the facts said.
She went to the shopping centre with her brother, Oktay Kokden, but on entering the building saw her sister and brother-in-law.
Wanting to avoid him, she returned to the car park and sat on a hand rail of a walkway, resting her legs on a bottom rail, but Belghar then came outside.
He stood in front of her, with his face against hers, and threatened to kill her, the facts said.
Belghar then allegedly slapped her face, before putting his arms around her legs and lower torso and picking her up from the rail.
He then allegedly moved her to the boundary rail, which faced the roadway below, before her brother tackled him and she fell to the ground, the facts said.
She later identified sunglasses, found by police on the roadway, as being the ones she had on top of her head before the incident.
Belghar allegedly told police he had confronted his sister-in-law "regarding issues of respect'', but denied trying to harm her.
He also allegedly said he had been angry over an incident when she and his wife went to the beach ``without his permission''.
The case was adjourned to the Downing Centre Local Court on January 7.
