SPORTS Minister Kate Ellis spent an active weekend at Bondi Beach with a mystery man, sharing a beachside apartment, cliff walks and breakfast together.
Labor government’s “style queen” and female “body image icon”, Sports Minister, and Labor Government Token Female Parliamentary background nodding head, Madame Kate Ellis (l) seen here with mystery Irishman Niall Collins (r) strolling at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
Ms Ellis, on her first day of holidays, helped her companion apply sunblock to hard-to-reach places before enjoying a glass of wine over lunch at Ravesi's.
She told The Sunday Telegraph her companion, a tall Irishman called Niall Collins, was "just a friend".
Ms Ellis's weekend in the sun comes on the eve of comments that she is "happily single" but that the romantic in her believes she'll find a match one day.
"I think everybody hopes they'll meet 'the one', but I'm really happy," she says in an interview with Women's Health magazine, published tomorrow.
"I'm not out there trawling nightclubs looking for Mr Right.
"Sometimes I feel incredibly confident when I'm single.
"When you're completely self-reliant, that can be empowering."
Questioned about her relationship with Mr Collins, Ms Ellis smiled but gave nothing away. "We're just friends, that's all," she said.
Looking relaxed, the South Australian MP traded her political power suit for a green bikini, sunglasses and Haviana thongs.
She and Mr Collins breakfasted at the Sahnia Cafe, in Campbell Parade, but it appeared work wasn't far from Ms Ellis's mind as she checked her BlackBerry several times.
From there, it was on to the Bondi-to-Bronte walk, and the two spent the afternoon cruising Bondi's boutiques and cafes.
In the Women's Health interview, Ms Ellis says that, like any woman, she has issues about her appearance.
"Everyone has fat or ugly days, and I'm certainly no different in that regard.
"But it has to come back to the fact that it's not the most significant thing. My appearance isn't the top of the list; it's not what makes me feel good about who I am."

Based on the photograph above, just as well Madame Kate, other wise you would definitely not be feeling good about who you are, maybe the two of you (and Irishman Niall for that matter)should do a bit more walking, less talking and eating.
