Something about Mary… Robinson,that is.
No wonder Hussein Obama gave this creep the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Professor Richard Wilkins, "......Let me tell you what Mary Robinson, the former Irish President, said these guidelines are based upon.
According to her, the norms enunciated in these guidelines are "consistent with fundamental human rights and fundamental freedoms". Note the similar language to the ICC.
Although the guidelines acknowledge that the norms they set out may be controversial, they nevertheless insist that the norms are "based on existing and fundamental human rights standards" (page 24, Paragraph 36).
And according to Mary Robinson again, they do nothing more than "encourage law and law reform which will bring national HIV-related laws into conformity with international and regional human rights standards".
She concludes by noting that her numerous recommendations are "consistent with traditional and customary international law". Again, the rulings on crimes against humanity are designed to ensure that customary human rights are recognised, and that fundamental human rights are not denied.
What are the fundamental rights that Mary Robinson says all nations must recognise?
One, they include the repeal of all laws condemning homosexual sodomy.
Two, the legalisation of same-sex marriages.
Three, mandatory and graphic sexual training for children. She has three paragraphs on the last of these.
She says the training has to include instruction, beginning when the child's at the age of 10, on how to engage in sexual intercourse with members of the same sex. Since this will of necessity be graphic, she says, "such materials should be exempted from pornography and obscenity laws".
Way to go Mary!!!!
Four, she says that all laws regulating prostitution must be eliminated. Prostitution, in short, must be legalised.
Well hey after all it is a “victimless crime” isn’t it?
Five, she says that the age of consent for all sexual activities should be lowered to 14.
NAMBLA AND Australia’s Dennis Fergusson would support that along with many many teachers federation members in Australia who like to sample a bit of what their students have to offer.
Finally, and most troublingly, she says: "There must be creation of penalties for anyone who vilifies individuals engaged in same-sex relationships." In short, it's not enough simply to normalise, in one fell swoop, all of international law related to homosexuality. We have to provide penalties.
What are the penalties she's talking about? Might it be the International Criminal Court? Turn to the guidelines on page 14, which emphasise the need for "the sensitisation of judicial branches of governments, both nationally and internationally." She suggests we need to "provide judicial education and the development of judicial materials".
Your Attorney-General states that it's absurd and outrageous to claim that the International Criminal Court will be used for political ends. Let me just give you, again, a little information from the Statute itself.
The ICC gives the prosecutor broad political power to bring prosecutions. Under the Statute, prosecutions are not initiated by States" Parties. They are, on the contrary, initiated by the prosecutor. And they may be initiated by anonymous complaints made by NGOs and others.
Furthermore, Article 44 allows the prosecutor to accept "any ... offer" of "gratis personnel offered by States' Parties, intergovernmental organisations or non-governmental organisations".
Gratis personnel are personnel paid for by third parties, yet they are performing the work of the court.
One can expect - and my experience tells me that it will undoubtedly be true - that most of these "gratis personnel" will be supplied by well-funded international NGOs who are hostile to religion and traditional values. An independent prosecutor who is free from any executive control is fearsome enough.
An independent prosecutor whose office is staffed by individuals with ideological axes to grind is positively frightening."
Full text of speech by Richard Wilkins, Professor of Law at Brigham Young University in the United States, was recently in Australia to warn of the threat to domestic legal and political systems posed by the International Criminal Court.

Men severed albino boy's legs in ritual killing
ABC
24 9 09
A court in Tanzania has found three men guilty of murdering a 14-year-old albino boy and severing his legs.
They have been sentenced to death by hanging.
The three men attacked and killed the young boy last December - one of a string of more than 50 albino murders that have taken place in Tanzania over the past two years.
This was the first guilty verdict since then and human rights activists hope it will help put an end to albino killings.
The ritualised murders are based in a belief that the ground up bones of albinos bring good luck to those who possess them.
The three men have the right to appeal the death sentence, which the law has said was unexpected.

ANOTHER boatload of 98 suspected asylum seekers has been intercepted off the far north-west coast of WA.
The boatload was intercepted near Christmas Island early today.
The latest boat arrival follows the rescue of 54 suspected asylum seekers from a stricken boat stranded north of the Cocos Islands on Saturday, September 19.
There has been at least six unauthorised boat arrivals this month.

Australian LABOR Party LOONS set up tax payer funded “paedophile palace” for sex crims

Sex crims to lap up luxury home
Ellen Whinnett
Sunday Herald Sun
September 20, 2009
THREE intellectually disabled sex offenders are to move into a new $800,000 house on a quiet suburban street - courtesy of the Victorian taxpayer.
The "pedophile palace" - a five-bedroom home with flat-screen TVs, computers and landscaped gardens - is on a quiet street in Bellfield.
The Department of Human Services has informed neighbours the home's residents have disabilities.
What the department did not say is that the men are intellectually disabled sex offenders, all of whom are subject to court orders that force them to receive treatment.
Heavy security surrounds the home, which has a secure back-yard hidden behind a fence.
But the security is just a front, with a source confirming all three men were allowed out unsupervised.
The source said the three men were "let loose in the community" to see how they reacted around children. DHS workers would quiz them when they returned to see if they had experienced arousal while looking at children out in the community.
"We're experimenting with them on kids in the community," the source said.
The DHS has owned the house for more than 10 years, and sex offenders, including these three men, have lived in the home before. But this year, the DHS bulldozed the home and built the sprawling new residence, which stands out against the other modest homes in the street.
The men are currently living in a home in another suburb -- next door to children.
The source said DHS staff "crossed their fingers" when the men were allowed out.
"They're street-wise criminals," the source said.
The men were due to move back into the newly completed home during the week, but the DHS changed its plans after being contacted by the Sunday Herald Sun.
DHS spokesman Brendan Ryan said: "The existing residence has operated in this location for at least 15 years with no negative impact on the surrounding community and has simply been replaced with a building that better meets design standards for people with a disability.
The clients are monitored around the clock for support from experienced DHS staff at the residence."
The Sunday Herald Sun asked several neighbours if they were concerned. One neighbour, Lola Lazarri, said she had lived next door to the home for 23 years and apart from noise and the sound of breaking windows, had not experienced problems.
"I'm not happy about it, but I'm not going to make a big fuss," she said.
Corrections Minister Bob Cameron's spokesman, Cameron Scott, said the Government had strengthened the supervision and support measures for sex offenders, and that Victoria had one of the lowest reoffending rates in the nation.
"These provisions link supervision with appropriate treatment and programs both during and after people have completed their sentence," Mr Scott said. "Prior to Labor coming to government, these people were let free without any restrictions at all."

Teen rugby league player banned 20 years for vicious grand final fight
By David Barrett and Tim Vollmer
The Daily Telegraph
September 23, 2009 6:27AM
A JUNIOR rugby league player was last night banned from the sport for 20 years after attacking another player during a vicious grand final brawl.
The 16-year-old Blacktown City player faced the judiciary last night after the all-in fight, which left 16-year-old Lower Mountains player Miki Hughes with a broken nose and suspected eye fracture.
Two other
players who faced the judiciary were suspended for five years and another of their was teammates ousted for two years.
They now cannot play rugby league anywhere in Australia.
Penrith and District Junior Rugby League junior league manager Don Feltis told The Daily Telegraph the 20-year suspension reflected the actions of the "worst offender" on the day who "did all the damage".
"I think every player penalised deserved what they got," Mr Feltis said last night.
He said the tough penalty showed that officials would not tolerate violence in the game.
He said the manager of the Blacktown City team has also been cited for using offensive and threatening language towards match officials.
Some parents were also seen giving high-fives to players as they left the field, he said.
"That in itself is very disappointing ... I am embarrasssed for our district," Mr Feltis said.
Shocking footage, capturing the dying minutes of Saturday's under-16 Penrith and District Junior Rugby League match, shows players from the Lower Mountains chased from the field by their opponents.
Miki Hughes was admitted to hospital following the melee.
His mother Susanne Hughes last night said she felt helpless watching from the stand as her son was attacked.
"I feel that I failed, standing there having to watch him go through that," Mrs Hughes told Channel 7.
Detectives investigating the fight are examining the footage and are appealing for spectators with extra mobile phone footage to come forward.
Lower Mountains Junior Rugby League club secretary Kerri Eisenhuth said the vicious brawl shocked the junior rugby league community.
"I've never seen anything like this before.," Ms Eisenhuth said.
Police investigations are continuing with some players facing possible assault charges.
The. brawl is the third violent incident involving teams from the Blacktown City junior rugby league club this season.
In July, two men were charged after an assault in a carpark following an under-12s game.
A Blacktown supporter also allegedly grabbed a 13-year-old player from Katoomba on the neck on the same weekend.
In the true Multiculturalist apologist tradition of victimhood,In the words of one Blacktown City official on late night radio,it was “all the ref’s fault he provoked the reaction from the Blacktown City players”

Kevin 07,immigration & “the hollowness of the pursuit of power before principle.” Sheehan (Nostradamus?) nails Comrade Rudd again.
And the challenge of migration?
SMH
Paul Sheehan
August 4, 2008
Did you know the Rudd Government is implementing the biggest immigration program since the end of World War II, and the biggest intake, in absolute numbers of permanent immigrants and temporary workers, in Australia's history?
Did you know the migration program for 2008-09 has set a target of 190,300 places, a robust 20 per cent increase over the financial year just ended?
On budget night, May 13, amid the avalanche of material released by the Government, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, issued a press release stating, among other things: "The use of 457 visas to employ temporary skilled migrant workers has grown rapidly in recent years. A total of 39,500 subclass 457 visas was granted in 2003-04 compared with an expected 100,000 places in each of 2007-08 and 2008-09." That is a 150 per cent increase in four years.
Did you know the number of overseas students coming to Australia is also at a record high, with 228,592 student visas granted in 2006-07, a 20 per cent increase over the previous year?
Under the Rudd Government, Australia's net immigration intake is now larger than Britain's, even though it has almost three times the population of Australia. To put all this in perspective, the immigration program in the Rudd Government's first year is 150 per cent bigger than it was in the Howard government's first year. The immigration intake is running almost 60 per cent higher than it was three years ago.
On November 14 last year, when Kevin Rudd launched Labor's election campaign, he mentioned at length the challenges of climate change and water shortages: "It is irresponsible for any national government of Australia to stand idly by while our major cities are threatened by the insecurity of water supply." While presenting a commendable shift away from John Howard's inertia on these issues, his policy is breathtakingly inconsistent. Not only did Rudd commit to a policy of building high-energy desalination plants for Australia's main cities, he has also committed Australia to record levels of immigration.
Talk about shifting sands. To quote Rudd in this same keynote speech: "Mr Howard lacked the decency to even mention Work Choices at all during his 4400-word policy speech on Monday. Work Choices has become the industrial relations law that now dare not speak its name."
Rudd did not have the decency to mention immigration once in his 4300-word campaign launch. It is the most glaring inconsistency of his Government.
The immigration figures quoted above do not even include New Zealanders, who are not counted as part of Australia's annual migration program, nor do they include people who have overstayed their visas. Add another 50,000 or so people to an equation which will see a million people added to the population during the three-year term of the Rudd Government. The only element in Australia's immigration program that is not going gangbusters is the refugee and humanitarian intake, which remains static at 13,500 places a year.
It was not until Evans made his first key policy speech last week that I began to appreciate the scale of the Government's selective silences. He began with a ritual bashing of his Liberal predecessor as minister, Kevin Andrews, who is now not even in the Opposition shadow outer ministry and would do his party a favour if he retired.
After the point-scoring Evans got to the essence: "Today I want to announce … [that] mandatory detention is an essential component of strong border control … [but] children and, where possible, their families, will not be detained in an immigration detention centre … Detention that is indefinite or otherwise arbitrary is not acceptable … Detention in immigration detention centres is only to be used as a last resort and for the shortest practicable time …"
It was not until the last paragraph of his long speech that Evans got to the core point: "In the future, the immigration system will be characterised by strong border security, firm deterrence of unauthorised arrivals, effective and robust immigration processes and respect for the rule of law and the humanity of those seeking migration outcomes."
Sounds like Howard. In other words, the fundamentals of the system are not going to be changed. The Rudd Labor Government is not dismantling the detention system first set up by the Keating Labor. It is not ending the excision of Australian territory from the Immigration Act, which prevents asylum-seekers from entering Australian territory via offshore islands. It is not ending the detention of adults until security and health checks are completed. It is not cutting funding for navy border patrols. It is maintaining the new
, far from Australia's shores, and capable of housing 800 people short-term, as a place to warehouse any new wave of boat people.
The fundamentals have not changed because they cannot change. The electorate holds dear the principle that people cannot determine when and how they will move to a new country, bypassing immigration controls or refugee programs. This is elementary to a nation's sovereignty.
The hysterics in the refugee and mandatory detention debates have always thrown around words like "shame" and "gulags" and engaged in moral relativism, comparing Howard to Saddam Hussein, while refusing to recognise that there are real consequences of failures of immigration policy. Thousands of Australian have paid a heavy price for the failed refugee-vetting processes in the 1970s and 1980s, when many people who should never have been allowed into the country were approved. We are still paying the price.
Labor learned the hard way that to compromise border security is to invite political disaster. This is why the Rudd Government is still talking tough on border security, and has a major immigration policy but dare not speak its name.
AND……
Comrade Rudd's great con game
SMH
Paul Sheehan
March 9, 2009
It is going to be fascinating to see how long Kevin Rudd, the greatest illusionist ever to become prime minister of Australia, can maintain this illusion of omnipresent leadership created by his energy, his ubiquity and his hypocrisy. Underline hypocrisy.
Rudd is on course to become the next Gough Whitlam, but Whitlam without the wit. Like Whitlam, he may win a second election before the electorate wakes up. At least Comrade Whitlam was stuck with a claque of criminals in his ministry - Al Grassby, Jim Cairns, Rex Connor - whereas Rudd has no such impediment.
So remember the words, uttered last night, by Rudd on Channel Seven: "Any person's job loss through no fault of their own is a lost job too many when it comes to me. I'm the Prime Minister of the country, the buck stops with me."
Was Rudd able to save a single one of the 2000 manufacturing jobs lost at Pacific Brands last week? No, the buck stopped with the workers. This is the man who increased the immigration program to the largest annual intake in Australia's history, and it is now swelling the ranks of job seekers. This is the man whose Government will, tomorrow, introduce workplace legislation which will increase the power of unions, and give pause to job creators. This is the man who has offered no structural relief to the great job-creating engine of the economy - small business. And this is the man who panicked at the first sign of danger and sprayed the entire $20 billion budget surplus he inherited up against a wall.
If Rudd wants to be Everywhere Man, then let him play the role and bear the consequences. Like most other Western leaders responding to the global financial freeze, he is making it up as he goes along, because we are in uncharted territory. Global industrial output has fallen faster in the past six months than it did at the advent of the Great Depression in 1929-30.
The response of policymakers has been to pump a massive increase in liquidity and government debt obligations into the system. But as the eminent economic historian Professor Niall Ferguson, of Harvard and Oxford, recently warned on his website: "The general assumption seemed to be that practically any kind of government expenditure would be beneficial, provided it was financed by a really big deficit."
Sound familiar? Ferguson continued: "There is something desperate about the way people are clinging to their dog-eared copies of John Maynard Keynes's General Theory. Uneasily aware that their discipline almost entirely failed to anticipate the current crisis, economists seemed to be regressing to macroeconomic childhood, clutching the multiplier like an old teddy bear.
"The harsh reality that is being repressed is this: the Western world is suffering a crisis of excessive indebtedness. Many governments are too highly leveraged, as are many corporations. More importantly, households are groaning under unprecedented debt burdens. Worst of all are the banks. Some of the best-known names in American and European finance have balance sheets 40, 60 or even 100 times the size of their capital …
"The delusion is that a crisis of excess debt can be solved by creating more debt. Yet that is precisely what most governments currently propose to do." Space precludes listing Ferguson's prescriptions but they can be found on his website, and summed up with this sentence: "The solution to the debt crisis is not more debt but less debt."
Tell that to Kevin Keynes. In opposition, Rudd opposed the GST, which in retrospect has been a tremendous stabilising influence in the economy, thanks to John Howard. During the last election, Rudd campaigned as an "economic conservative". Upon winning office, and inheriting a $90 billion financial buffer from outgoing treasurer Peter Costello, he accused the previous government of creating a dangerous inflation threat. It was a fabrication.
After the global financial storm broke, Rudd attacked the excesses of neo-liberal market capitalism even as he spent the entire $20 billion budget surplus he had inherited from the neo-liberals in an absurd attempt to claim he had kept Australia out of recession. The evolution of his economic position has been an opportunistic fraud, exposed by those on his own side of politics.
As the former Labor leader Mark Latham wrote on February 20, in The Australian Financial Review: "When Kevin Rudd lobbied me in October 2004 to become Labor's shadow treasurer, his sales pitch was straight from the neo-liberal playbook. He was enthusiastic about pro-market policies such as deregulation and reducing the size of the state. [As leader] he went to the polls as Howard-lite."
Michael Costa, former Labor treasurer of NSW, dismissed Rudd's recent attack on the excesses of market capitalism, in a critique in The Australian on February 6 as "rambling and selective" and warned that Rudd's response to the global crisis "is likely to do more damage to the economy".
As Niall Ferguson has also warned. When the recession in Australia gets worse, and Rudd's Keynesian cliches have increased the long-term cost of the government intervention, Labor will run a diversionary personal campaign against the Leader of the Opposition, simply because Malcolm Turnbull is a wealthy former merchant banker.
What, you may ask, about the multi-millions the Rudd family has made from neo-liberal policies of the Howard years? Latham had something to say about this, too: "Rudd's wife created an impressive business network and fortune from the Howard government's privatisation of labour market programs."
Rudd can trim his economic sails to pick up whatever political wind he can find because he embodies the hollowness of the pursuit of power before principle.

THREE boats carrying asylum seekers arrived illegally in Australian waters over the past week, making a mockery of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s pre-election pledge that he would “turn them back”.
That promise, made during an interview with The Australian’s senior political staffers Paul Kelly and Dennis Shanahan, was rushed into print on Friday, November 23, 2007, the day before the last federal election.
It was an attempt to reassure voters that, on border security as with economic issues, Rudd Labor would not depart from the sound course set by the Howard government.
Every promise made in that interview has been dishonoured.
Rudd said his approach to border security was based on “effective laws, effective detention arrangements, effective deterrent posture vis-a-vis vessels approaching Australian waters”.
Nearly two years later, the effective laws have been rendered ineffectual, the effective detention arrangements need supplementing with portable cabins and, as we saw recently, have been removed entirely for a particular group of asylum seekers, and the effective deterrent posture vis-a-vis vessels approaching our waters has been weakened to the point of non-existence.
Further, Rudd said Labor would take asylum seekers rescued from leaky boats to Christmas Island and would turn back seaworthy vessels on the high seas.
“You’d turn them back. You cannot have anything that is orderly if you allow people who do not have a lawful visa in this country to roam free,” he said.
“That’s why you need a detention system. I know that’s politically contentious, but one follows from the other. Deterrence is effective through the detention system but also your preparedness to take appropriate action as the vessels approach Australian waters.”
It was complete and utter garbage. Rudd Labor has not only weakened and undermined what was very strong border protection but has diminished the deterrence aspects to the point that the policy now actively encourages asylum seekers already in the queue, determined by the UN and bodies such as the International Organisation for Migration, to pay thousands of dollars to people smugglers to encourage them to break Australian law.
In effect, these asylum seekers are no more than co-conspirators with the people smugglers, but the Rudd Labor Government chooses to ignore the apparent hypocrisy of its position on border security.
In just over a year, Rudd Labor has scrapped the Pacific Solution, which effectively deterred people from seeking out people smugglers to bring them to Australia.
Labor has abolished Temporary Protection Visas, giving permanent residency to more than 1000 people who had been on TPVs and it has dumped the 45-day rule which helped ensure Medicare and other benefits funded by taxpayers were not rorted.
This week the Rudd Labor Government will further erode border protection safeguards by introducing a new form of “complementary” protection visas that will give those currently ineligible to claim protection visas wider scope to claim refugee status when they do not meet the existing refugee criteria.
Since Rudd Labor softened border protection policies in the past 13 months, 31 boats carrying some 1456 asylum seekers have reached Australia.
After six years of extremely little illegal people smuggling traffic, the profiteers are back in business - and people are dying in Australian waters.
Rudd’s election eve interview is a constant reminder of his penchant for perfidy and the sad gullibility of a chunk of the electorate.
Australia's population balloons to 21.8m
By Cathy Alexander,
AAP
September 22, 2009,
Australia s population soared by almost half a million people in the year to March, figures show.
Australia's population soared by almost half a million people in the year to March - a boom not seen since the 1960s.
A green group says that's no cause for celebration and has called for immigration to be cut to protect the environment.
Australian Bureau of Statistics data released on Tuesday shows the population increased by just over two per cent - or 439,000 people - in the year to March.
There are now 21.8 million of us.
Most of the recent increase - almost 300,000 people - was due to immigration.
But there's also a mini-baby boom, with 160,000 babies entering the world during the year.
Recent research showed Australia's population would balloon to 35 million - seven million more than previously thought - on the strength of immigration and births over the next 40 years.
The government says the population boom is great news because it means the economy will keep growing.
But some green groups say enough is enough.
Australian Conservation Foundation spokesman Charles Berger said the growing population was on a collision course with the environment.
More people - as outlined in the ABS data - meant more greenhouse pollution, poorer river health and struggling infrastructure.
Every extra million people added 25 million tonnes of greenhouse pollution, Mr Berger said.
He called for migration to be cut to "more sustainable levels".
"We cannot continue to add the equivalent of a city larger than Canberra every year to Australia's population and still expect to maintain the health of our environment and our quality of life."
Immigration Minister Chris Evans said the government could adjust the immigration intake to suit the economy.
The Rudd government had cut the permanent skilled migration twice since last year, a spokesman for Senator Evans said.
He also pointed out the ABS data included temporary skilled workers from overseas and international students, most of whom would return home.
Clearly Rudd’s immigration policies are working,if only this promise of the Rudd Socialist Labor government had been broken rather than some of the others, such as….
“"Any person's job loss through no fault of their own is a lost job too many when it comes to me. I'm the Prime Minister of the country, the buck stops with me." ……..

ASYLUM seekers could be housed in former casino staff accommodation as the Federal Government faces a potential overcrowding crisis at its Christmas Island detention centre.
The recent surge in asylum seekers is testing the limits of the island's facilities — as of last night there were 644 people in detention, with a further 54 due to arrive tomorrow.

Christmas Island can handle up to 1200 detainees but if the number of asylum seekers trying to get to Australia continues to escalate — 315 illegal arrivals have been intercepted in just two weeks — then the island will be soon be full.
While the Federal Government is trying to process refugee claims as quickly as possible — 108 were resettled last week — it has been revealed contingency measures are in place should current accommodation facilities fill up.
A spokesman for Immigration Minister Chris Evans said the Gov-
ernment was "looking at other options" on the island.
One of those options, the spokesman said, was considering housing asylum seekers in old accommodation that had been used by staff who once worked at the now defunct casino, once a magnet for Indonesian high-rollers.
Another option for asylum seekers would be to initially detain them on Christmas Island for their security, identity and health checks, before transferring them to a detention centre in Darwin while they wait for their refugee claim to be processed.
Federal Opposition spokeswoman for justice and customs Sussan Ley yesterday criticised the Government's immigration policies and said they encouraged people to “risk their lives” on dangerous sea voyages, while making people smugglers rich from their trade in human misery”
Mr Rudd must launch an urgent inquiry into the relationship between their softening of border protection and the surge in people smuggling in Australia, Ms Ley said.
Acting Opposition Leader Julie Bishop said the Christmas Island
facilities were at "breaking point" and referred to reports of "thousands of people awaiting a people-smuggler
trip to Australia". The Government must take a stand now, she said.
The latest boatload of 54 asylum seekers was rescued by border protection authorities around 550 nautical miles north of the Cocos- Keeling Islands on Sunday.
Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor said some of the people were dehydrated and seasick and said the rescue highlighted the risks and dangers associated with such perilous ventures.

Howard 'had it right on asylum seekers'
SBS
16 September 2009
A boat ferrying suspected asylum-seekers has been intercepted off Australia's northwest coast, the fourth such arrival in a little over a week. (SBS)
West Australian Premier Colin Barnett says former prime minister John Howard "had it right" with his policies on asylum seekers.
Mr Barnett said Australia had to give a very clear message that you cannot get into the country by illegally means.
After a boat ferrying suspected asylum seekers was intercepted off Australia's northwest coast on Tuesday - the fourth such arrival in a week - Mr Barnett said people smugglers were aware of Australia's policy changes on asylum seekers.
The Labor government last year relaxed the Howard government's laws covering mandatory detention of asylum seekers - including children - under the so-called Pacific solution.
The policy involved the excision of islands from Australia's migration zone and asylum seekers being removed to detention camps on the islands of Manus and Nauru in order to determine their refugee status.
The Rudd government has retained the policy of mandatory detention, but restricts it to unlawful non-citizens who pose a threat to the community, those who refuse to comply with visa conditions and those who have to be detained for health, identity and security checks.
Mr Barnett said Australia would have "to accept the reality" of increasing numbers of desperate people trying to enter the country, but said the federal government had to send a message "that Australia is closed".
"I think those seeking asylum and those who run these trafficking in people are aware there have been policy changes at a federal level and that if you get onto mainland Australia you basically get into the Australian legal system," Mr Barnett told Fairfax Radio Network.
"That's probably a change that has occurred since the change of (federal) government.
"The more fundamental reason, however, is that there are many displaced persons, more people facing hardship and persecution in the world, and (they are) close to us.
"You can understand why they are trying to get to Australia and they will take desperate measures to get here." Mr Barnett said Australia was not alone in encountering influxes of asylum seekers, "but we do need strong border security".
"I think John Howard had it right," he said.
"I think we do have to give a very clear message that you cannot get into Australia by illegal entry. It's not going to work. It's going to be closed off before you get here."
Mr Barnett also said he could not understand why Australian authorities were taking so long to release any findings on the explosion that killed three Afghan refugees on a boat in April.
The premier said at the time it was understood that the refugees on the boat spread petrol which ignited, causing the explosion.
The then minister for home affairs,
said at the time the government did not want to speculate on the cause of explosion.
The fact that Australia’s security and sovereignty are under threat because of the Kevin 07 Governments allegiance to the ideology of Multiculturalism,”Global Village” and the UN’s utopia, of a world without borders, the “colonization by stealth” that was started in the 70’s by Labor’s great Socialist “living treasure” E.G Whitlam and continued on by the Fraser Liberal government through to the present day with a relatively brief period of cessation during the Howard government, shows most certainly that Kevin 07’s LACK of border protection policy is indeed working.
Come on Down Mohammed, Kevin 07 and his band of merry “working families” and Union Comrades are waiting for you with how and WHO to vote FOR cards and the keys to a shiny new apartment , Medicare, card, subsidised pharmaceutical as in $4.50 a script and naturally you will go straight on to the dole or the invalid pension which ever pays the most.

Australia:Airport workers and “Bra Boys” charged with Cocaine importation racket
Police crack alleged airport drug-smuggling gang

SIX men have been charged over an alleged cocaine importation syndicate that involved packages of drugs being smuggled through Sydney airport.
A joint investigation by the Australian Federal Police and Australian Customs led to raids on six Sydney homes yesterday and the seizure of a kilogram of cocaine with an estimated street value of $350,000.
Authorities allege some of the men work at Sydney airport and moved drugs packages out of the facility undetected.
Three of the men charged were employees of an airline catering company, according to the Australian Federal Police.
Authorities allege two of the men worked for an airline catering company and one was a former employee.
"There was a member of the syndicate who brought the drugs onto the plane ... and secured them within the cabin at a location known to the catering people," AFP spokesman Commander Steve Grant said.
A total of six men, aged between 20 and 55, have been charged with importing and conspiring to import border control drugs and dealing in the proceeds in crime.
Search warrants were executed at Bexley, Glenwood, Matraville, Merrylands, Mascot and Maroubra, where quantities of Australian and foreign currencies were also seized.
The offences carry penalties from 15 to 25 years imprisonment.
Three of the men are due to appear in Central Local Court today, two others are to appear in the same court tomorrow, while a sixth man was granted bail and is expected to appear in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on October 27.

Kevin 07’s Australia 2009: When Mohammad becomes the Land Lord.
We have a Prime Minister swanning around on the world stage in New York, telling anyone who will listen to him and his media spin doctors, about what a great job he is doing creating a socialist nirvana, or how he and his union pals and financiers are 'getting the balance right" in his personal serfdom of Australia.
The reality however is far from the media spin, even his governments own PR and ALP ACTU apologists, the taxpayer funded ABC,has gone to air with a scathing indictment on the Kevin 07 Labor governments appalling lack of success "in getting the balance right" for the homeless.
It's indeed ironic that the exert shown in the video below contains footage showing how an Australian and his family are treated by Muslim Immigrant / Refugee slum land lords.
These Muslim immigrants / refugees are the Australian Labor Party's immigrant / refugee of choice.
Since the election of the Kevin 07 Socialist Labor Government in November 2007 the flood gates have been gradually opened to illegal entrants who fly into Indonesia from the middle east , dispose of their documentation, claim they are anybody other than who they are, then jump onto a "refugee boat" and enter Australian waters and immediately claim refugee status which is almost always granted by an obliging UN, Beijing subservient Kevin 07 Labor Government.
For these people there is a never ending bounty to be collected and demanded of the Australian Taxpayer, from free dental services free medical and pharmaceutical, free education, "job training" as if, and a life long entitlement to social security benefits and heavily subsidised welfare housing and utilities.
What happens when Mohammad becomes the Land Lord? what happens when some snivelling Islamic dog who colonizes Australia by stealth by dribbling some sob story of how terrible life is in whatever Islamic shit hole it was he ran away from, is given the opportunity to drag himself out of the manifestations of the belief in Islam and its associated inferior social structures, suddenly finds himself been in control of an Australian and his wife and two children, who find themselves down and out indeed homeless.

KEVIN Rudd has kicked off his 52nd birthday with a breakfast meeting overlooking views of New York's iconic Central Park.
The Prime Minister got down to business with a behind closed doors address to an audience of more than 25 high flying corporate, investment and banking representatives.
The gathering took place on the 42nd floor of the building of private equity partners Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR).
Before the meeting began, Mr Rudd stood with KKR co-chairman Henry Kravis, who explained the history of the park after Mr Rudd remarked that it was his birthday. "So, it's your birthday? What a great way to start," Mr Kravis said.
Mr Rudd addressed the meeting, which included Pratt Industries chief executive officer Anthony Pratt.
Representatives of ratings agencies, including Moody's, and investment firms JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, banks and private equity firms were also there.
The night before, Mr Rudd and his wife Therese Rein had a private dinner with Rupert Murdoch and his wife Wendi Deng at the residence of the consul-general.
Later on Monday morning, Mr Rudd will have a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon before settling down to a round of bilateral meetings for the rest of the day.
